Woo hoo !!! My tax return will be here today, that means I can get my Ibanez out of the pawn shop ! Some higher power must have sensed my suffering and sent down a miracle. Or maybe it was just fast processing by the IRS...lol ! Did anyone else (in the US) get duped by that advanced child credit thing this year. If I had known that the $300 was a loan I would have sent it back. Or maybe not...I used it to buy my RG..lol...oh well....what goes around, comes around.

How do guys distinguish what your row your on? I got confirmation after rerserving my two tickets that said :

Block B - B1 B2

Block B at the NIA in Birmingham is a block dead centre right in front of the stage...so I'm guessing that B is a row, and 1 ad 2 are the seat numbers. So I think I'm in the second row :(....oh well still get a great view. Just gotta' confirm who is coming with me.

DelfinoPie People always run down the front at the NIA, make sure you're ready to dash at the first or second song. It's one of those venues with a big space between the seats and the stage. Personally I much prefer not seated places like the Academy.....

Plus....looking at the seating plans, I'd say block B is the middle front block, so Block B, row B, seats 1 & 2 would be second row, near enough centre. But, as I say, the stage is set quite far from the front row

ust found some interesting news about the NIA gig, good news I think- it's a flexible venue capacity and seating arrangement wise, and I was thinking that it would be at it's fulll capacity of 13,000. However the venue is stated as the NIA ACADEMY which means they move the place round and the maximum capacity for an academy gig is about 4,500, they set it up in this way for concerts to make it feel a bit more intimate. I think this is great news, the crowd only being a third of the size I thought it would be. In terms of having a great feel, I think this will improve it no end.

And the Albert Hall? Man that's awesome, I've played there a couple of times, don't know if Joe and the guys have been there befirem but G3 at the Albert Hall is going to be unbelievable, what a venue to have it in. PLus the lucky people who get to stand in the arena will be so close up.

tone capone - The axe murderer is actually my mom... lol..

do not screw with my mom... she bad..

greg - MOSFET.. Massive Orb Shaped Fucking Enormous Tits

yup.. I know all about them..

and the assciated "family of curves".... lol..

""[Eddie Van Halen is] one of those guys I count as the savior of electric guitar playing at a time when it could have easily been snuffed out. """"

amen!!

Shogun - yeah.. for me the way of the Ryu is 'the way'... Shotokan was a method of relieving me of cash.. and dispite all of the stomping and shouting it seemed to be rigid and ineffective.... however... I will only say that of the club that trained me.. I imagine that just as combat effectiveness is mostly about the fighter and not the style... the grace and spirit about the style is mostly down to the Sensei and his kai...

My Goju Ryu Sensei was suberb in all aspects...

My Shotokan Sensei was good at counting the push-ups and sit-ups I did...and collecting enough funds to ensure that the Porsche she drove was never more than 3 years old... if Shotokan is genuinely a good style I'll never find out.. because I'll never return to it..

on the grapplers - shit yes.. they are nastey.. as you know there almost always be a time when a fight goes to ground.. once you're in their space they'll tie you up into a reef knot.. piss over your back.. make it with your girl and still have time to come back and finish you off... assuming that is that you've managed to untie your arms and legs from each other...

the thing that impresses me most about graplers [Ju, Aki etc] is that they can win a fight very efficiently without drawing blood and without causing serious damage.. they just generate enough pain that tells you to back off less you want two broken arms and two broken legs.. so you back off.. and at least you can walk home with nothing more that a few scuffs and a dented ego...

I hit a guy once with a mawashi empi jodan and broke his cheek bone, his jaw and broke two molars.. and it knocked him out cold.. and that was a training accident [his fault I might add.. since when do you 'step in' when blocking an empi.. his forward speed + my forward speed + my serious body weight + my big fuck-off shoulders and forearms = him deeply screwed]..

lucky I didn't follow through with the kazame tzuki and gyaku tzuki.. lmao..

"last call.. amblunss fo da' guy in the dodgey white suite..."

Joeman - bored.. with the Battle of the Bulge?.. all them nice American, British and Canadians slugging it out with the Germans.. and in Belgium too...

if you're gonna have a big assed fight... do it in Belgium...

eta - I studied Goju Ryu, Shotokan, Muay Thai and Boxing.. however.. far more valuable - I grew up in Bermondsey SE London..

outside of a dojo situation, I have had a 'tiff' with a black belt in Taikwon Do... but this was for real.. he stepped away from me to keep the fight at long distance.. I just grabbed his shoulders, head butted him in the face twice and let him drop to the ground.. I gave him the chance to get up and finish me off with all his nija crap.. but he just wasn't up for it... but then guess it's off putting trying to get your technique all nice when you have a broken nose and you're choking in your own blood... so I did the right thing.. booted him in the ribs a few times and went back into the pub to finish my beer...

If need be... I will defend myself with tremendous vigour...

but I am 'not' a tough guy...

something else: ordered a slick handtruck on ebay to carry around my new amp, got an email from the seller today (mass distributor) saying that UPS sent the item back because it got bent in half (!), apparently they must've ran over it with a truck or something (!!!)
they'll be sending another one out once it's back in stock.

etasan: Konichiwa!!.... Doozo Yoroshiku :-).... Your Japanese is coming along fine.... You've got the right idea bro in wanting to explore all kinds of different styles, and then in the end, all you need to know is a few deadly moves.... We call it Twi-dee (Okinawan slang for secret moves), and when applied correctly, they are lethal.... For example.... Using the index & middle finger pointing out (and the rest of your fingers in a semi-fist) and a shot to the adams apple.... There are also several pressure point shots that are lethal.... Applied to any kind of attacker correctly (and you will do it correctly if you train) and it is lethal.... Great stuff man.... For mind and body.... Attode Ne!! :-)....

Master Yoda: The Royal Albert Hall? I didn't expet them to play that venue. I've played there... hahaha, rotflmao man, I like the way you explained that, hehe ;-)....

SupaaDave: Congrats man!!.... Glad your getting your IBY back!!.... Wohoo!!....

I'm waiting for my JEM to come back from the IBY shop estimate, and I may hold on to it even with the cheapo scarf joint repair (they just glued the crack!!).... Well see what happens....

Anyone here heard the Howe-Wooten-Chambers release "Extraction"? "Howe" is it stylistically speaking? Greg can wail in sooo many styles convincingly but the "funky" stuff is not necessarily my cup'o'tea. For some reason the four "reviews" on Amazon do not seem to be accessible... Anyone have any input/opinion on this one?

Thx

Clarky: haha, lol man on the Shotokan.... That kind of reminds me when I took Kung-Fu as a kid growing up.... I was with United Studios and they were about the same thing.... Counting push-ups and the dollars that rolled through the door, lol.... I'm sure there are some good United Studios out there, but like you said, the style is mostly down to the Sensei and his kai...

I love your explanation of grapplers, haha, that's a good one to use in class!!.... When I was in Aiki Jitsu, the first thing we had to learn was roll, and we used the wrestling room to practice in because of the mats.... We would work our way up to the cement outside, and if you roll correctly, you wont feel a thing.... I learned how important this was later on.... The arm bar moves and joint lock's plus pressure point blows were all part of the training.... And it was then that I suddenly realized how badass the Samurai were.... They needed these inside moves for those close infighting battles and for times when they were without a sword.... Great stuff!!....

Right-on about the effectiveness this has in a scuffle.... A few lock moves and some good pressure..To the point of submission, and most fights are ended without a swing.... This is why you dont mess with Japanese cops.... And just to make sure, they carry a half Bo staff also.... They are all heavily trained in Judo also.... Most Police Stations have a Judo Dojo on the top floor.... I've been in them.... A whole floor dedicated to Judo and head banging Kendo, another great Martial Art that focuses explosive energy and timing!!.... I worked out with them on occasion.... My ass was dragging after being flipped a bunch of times, lol, I was like, lets go to the bar and get a drink now!!....

On that fight with the TKD guy.... Glad to see that you didnt let your beer get warm!! rotflmao!! ;-)

My G3 dvd review...

Joe's set: Very cool. Good to see Starry Night and Midnight live. I hope Joe puts more new stuff on future dvds though. The Extremist, Satch Boogie, Potato Head are all great, but I would rather have Time Machine or Why on there. The band was sounding good... Jeff is intense ;-).

Steve's set: Also cool. All new songs for me so I was happy. Him Dave and Tony together is a G3 in itself, and Billy was playing some serious bass too. All in all, twas good...

Yngwie's set: a little repetitive. But he did impress me... lots of fury and high kicks are entertaining. The acoustic solo was really neat.

Jams: Little Wing was my favorite. Steve's a pretty good singer. Yngwie was annoying. I wish he would have chilled out a bit and kicked back some blues licks. Joe and Steve both did awesome... it was fun to watch them together. But EJ did add a lot on the last dvd, so that was missed...

Joe - My bro says your new hat in the dvd was cool... and he's happy you didn't give in to wearing leather pants this time, heh ;-).

Shogun Vai - heh, ya the ovation was happy... it was feelin' very funky that night, lol. I made good use of the ol Hendrixian 7#9 chord ;-), it was great. I got a reply from those silly Amazonian employees pretty quick. They apologized (again), but it still may be another week or two! Blah... oh well, I'll let you know when it comes in.

Hey, I read the satch interview, I though the album was supposed to be heavy from rumors on the site, but it is described as a blues album, will this be similar to his 1995 Joe Satriani album? If not, how do you think it'll be different. Also there are vocals on this one, something that I don't recall being on a solo joe record since FIABD.

How do you edit YJM out of the Jam??? If you remove him you effectively remove 75% of the stage width relative to his position on any given camera shot!!!! lol!!! I am afraid unfortunately that would generally remove most/all other bandmembers as well including Steve!!!! (we might still get a glimpse of Joe on the far left) lol!!!

It is indeed a different situation than the 96 DVD with EJ hanging back in the shadows of the amps isn't it!!!!

ETA: thanks for the appreciation man! I am always looking for new bands to hear and Lamb of God definitely seems like an attractive choice to me. I read an interview on guitar world about them and I guess they can shred poser metalheads in no time!

DO THE STU: I disagree what you have to say about Joe's upcoming releases and his past ones. Anthology and Satch Tapes were pretty much re-relaases. The target audience was not for anyone else, but it was specifically for Joe fans. The Anthology on the other hand did a great job as a sampler for his past and upcoming releases. The G303, was not a Satriani realease alone. It also includes Yngwie and Vai as equal partners. The new studio album will have a greater audience than the past 4 releases. I am sure the Management had all this in mind much earlier!
