that is freaking gay!!!!! how can Joe's stuff be out alreay?!?! that pisses me off!! he is the best and he still gets no respect, if they like his music so much that they want it before its out then why dont they just buy it. jerks!! I would be pissed if I were a musician and that was happening. ugh!!!
on a lighter note. I have a question. I want to get a Boss GT-3 or 5 or whatever I can. my friend has a GT-3 and it has a good compressor (you can hold a note forever, which is what I love) but do you think I should just get active pickups? it doesnt seem like you would need both but I am just wondering. thanks.

mikesan: yeah I know..it's hard but you could just copy and paste it..lol
JS_JS and mikesan: and yeah...its very sad to see Joe's "fans" sharing unreleased songs on kazaa...they should just wait for the cd to come outand buy it...if someone wants to download any joe's music they should download live songs which dont appear on cd's or those kind of songs....but not a whole unreleased album...the sadest thing is that this happens with every band... or most

Good news for you KaZaA people: officals are cracking down on downloads, so they put phony files on Kazaa. I bet if you download a new Joe track, it will be a blank file, or it willl be another song.

matt martinez: yeah man...that's really good but it is only happening on USA..and just in some places, not all over the country...in other countries you can really download any song and as many as you want...I can tell you this because my sister had half of britney's new album 1 month before it was out for sale...normally popular singers are the most troubled with these kazaa stuff....but joe satriani isn't exactly the most known guitar player on earth so the songs do not have all these funny sounds...

hmmm, Joe's new stuff is on the internet again. Well, I hope that this is for the better as compared to being a bad thing. I downloaded around 4 tracks of Joe.....Cryin, Lights of Heaven, Starry Night, Summer Song.......thats how I became a serious fan. Now I own 9 Joe CD's, a t-shirt, 4 Joe DVD's, seen a concert, turned some of my friends into Joe fans (who have also bought his music and came with me see him Live), soon may be purchasing a JS guitar, buy magazine articles related to Joe, buy artists CD's with Joe as guest.....and numerous other stuff. The people who love Joe will buy his music and etc. I think it helps in some ways. There is a small potential for damage, but for an artist like him, who has a rock solid foundation and a fanatical fan following, I dont think it is a big deal. This may help as advertising in some form or the other. Lets see what happens.

Calm down, guys... If you take the time to download the tracks, you'll find that they aren't real. Someone from this site (I won't name names, he / she can identify himself / herself if he / she wants to) told me about the tracks on Kazaa a few weeks ago. None of them are real...the times are correct, but the files contain a lot of nothing.

I, too, started out listening to Joe by downloading a bunch of his stuff. I have since bought all but Dreaming #11 and I also bought LISF and both G3 DVD's and the current G3 CD. If you like the song, buy the album. if not, delete it. In that respect, I say it's ok to download. On the other hand, I had 2000 songs on my computer at one point, so I know both the right and wrong sides of the spectrum. I just saw it as that I wouldn't have bought the CD's anyway so who cares. Then I realized how wrong it really is and deleted all but about 50 songs. With those I had owned the CD's at one point anyway so I see it as that I already paid for it so technically I already own the music. I was considering downloading just one or 2 songs on the new album when I heard that it had been leaked, but needless to say, I was planning to buy it the day it comes out anyway. Since I haven't found any clips anywhere yet, I figure that's ok as long as I delete them right after listening.

thats good austin...thats like what happened with Dream Theaters new album Train of Thought...there were all the songs from the new album out on Kazaa but they were songs of some strange band and was just retarded. well i have had a slight set back on getting my guitar 100% finished, i was changing the strings on it to finish it all but at least 2 of the saddle units broke during the string changing...so now i'm still waiting for guitar center to call me saying my parts have arrived. as soon as that happens i really will send pictures of my guitar to those who would like to see my newly painted and beautiful JS100. good night everyone!

well, i'm back. too hard to resist.....
Yes, downloading unreleased music is a crime. But if they loosened up a little, maybe people wont feel as good about themselves for downloading music. If it was legal to download music from monsters such as Kazaa and Napster, then pretty much everyone would be clouding up the servers, which means really really slow downloading, maybe a week for a song. Just my opinion. Its so hard to judge whether downloading music is a crime or not, because every case differs and varies so much. I guess we never will be able to come up with an answer for this. Lars Ulrich said that if it came down to going from house to house and deleting people's Metallica MP3's, they would do it. Needless to say, this will never happen. We probably wont see Lars coming down to our homes to delete Metallica Mp3's just like we wont ever see another killer Metallica song.
I'm out like Napster. Good Night.

I think having Satriani's music shared (or stolen) on the internet may actually do him more good than harm in the long run.
If I hadn't "stolen" some of his songs after hearing his name mentioned, I would've never become the dedicated fan I am today. I've bought multiple CD's, DVD's, and attended a G3 show. The one thing that I probaby won't buy due to my downloading is the Satch tapes since I already have most of the music videos on my computer.
But if not for file-sharing I would've never spent a penny on anything by Satch and probably wouldn't have even heard much of him since he's rarely (if ever) mentioned in mainstream media.
Satriani's music is beautiful, powerful, technically brilliant, and inspiring! He's a hard-working musician who deserves every cent he gets, but by having mp3s of his music online, he may reach even more people, attract more fans, and make even more money than otherwise.
Just my two cents...

I saw a preview for Liv Tyler's new movie earlier tonight. Man, she's hot! ;-) It's too bad Ben Affleck is in the movie too...I can't stand him.
Dizzy - It's hard to tell exactly what Joe is doing in that photo. My first guess is that he's tapping out Midnight. He could also be playing harmonics, though, in which case the photo could possibly be from a number of songs...
Joeman9 - Yeah, you can those sounds just about anywhere. I just mentioned a few spots where the sounds are easiest to create.
Sharif - I really like your music...I think this is the first time I've heard your band. Cool stuff.
JS JS - LOL...college is wonderful. :-)
mikesan - Yeah, that band was SO cool. They're playing another gig in the area next week...I'm gonna try to be there.
Matt Martinez - IIRC, Joe said he will tour the US in either August or October.
TheBob - A lot of MP3s hit the internet prior to the release of Aerosmith's Just Push Play in 2001. Whoever it was that put the MP3s out there had a lot of fun with myself and other Aerosmith fans at the time. The titles matched the titles of songs on the album, but the MP3s were actually tracks from various bootlegs. A bunch of us Aerosmith fans had fun matching the tracks to their original bootlegs...haha.
I still look back at that and laugh... It was such a cool thing to do; it had to be someone in the band (or someone close to them) who decided to do it. I know Sony / Columbia would never think of something like that on their own. ;-)
Anyway, I'd love to see pictures of your guitar...whenever you're finished with it.
Jazzy Boy - That's an interesting idea (so many people downloading songs that it takes weeks to get them), but downloading can never get to that point. MP3s are so much smaller than WAV files, and internet connections are just too fast.
Why do you feel it's hard to judge whether or not downloading music is a crime? It seems simple to me. Unless the band says it's okay, it's ALWAYS a crime.
Yeah, each case is different...but in each case, someone is always obtaining (stealing) music that he / she didn't purchase.
guitarnut777 - First, go buy The Satch Tapes on DVD. You should be able to find it online for about $10. It is most definitely money well spent. The Nigel Tufnel interview is worth the cost of the DVD.
Filesharing has just about killed popular music sales. Most people who buy (and, now, download) that kind of music, though, don't like music for music. They like certain songs because of the hype / image (pop radio, MTV, etc.) surrounding them. To these people, and MP3 is just as good as the real thing. It doesn't matter that MP3s are low-quality versions of songs, because, to these people, their love for the song was never about the song or the music. Does that make sense?
We had a great discussion about filesharing here on T2J late last year. Most of us here use MP3s as a way to sample new bands on our own, or to introduce new bands to friends... We buy albums whenever we find something we like, so the music industry doesn't suffer from our actions.
It's too bad that the majority of people don't do what we do...
...Austin...

Good day folk~
I am from South Africa and am leaving my country for the first time ever to see Joe live at the G3 in Europe.
I am going to be based just outside London and was wondering if anyone could tell me where would be the best place to see the concert? I obviously dont know any of the venues and was hoping that someone might offer some advice.
Ps. Thanks Joe for endless inspiration!
Cheers!
