Joeman9 I am like you, freaking bored! I think I am gonna play guitar for a while...

Ibanez guitarist I almost bought one of those. I played a whole bunch and it came down between a Jem and an S series and I picked the S series. I just liked it better, but that is just me, it has the cool new bridge and stuff, it sounds good, feels good and looks good. I will go get a picture and put up the link for you just so you can see it. other than that I dont know what to tell you....

Ibanez Guitarist here is my guitar. it is an S 470 dxqm, it is pretty sweet. the listed price is around $600 or something but I got mine brand new for right under $400 at the local music store. whatever you do, if you get a new one shop local (if they are good and cheap) or musicians friend on the internet, they have good prices on stuff. I dont know about e-bay, I dont have much experience with it so I dont know what to tell you.

Ibanez Guitarist I should also have mentioned the pickups, mine came with some kind of Mi Marzio pickups, they sounds awsome, it also has a single coil, which is cool if you want the strat sound.

I am gonna get off for a while. my sister "needs" the computer for homework. whatever.....

Flagg: HAHA I agree on that Radio Head comment. I mean, the older stuff like The Bends, Okay Computer, etc is great stuff, but those guys can put out flaming piles of crap like Kid A and Amnesiac and people still pat em on the back. What is the deal? I half think they put out those crap albums as an attempt to tank their careers and get out of the biz haha!

Thank you JS JS, you were very infomative and helped me out. And thats a cool guitar.

Does anyone know if you get the single coil sound from the JEM guitars if you switch to the neck pick-up for playing blues and Yngwie?

Here's a joke I got in an email today

Three men, one German, one Japanese and a hillbilly were sitting naked in a sauna. Suddenly there was a beeping sound. >>>The German pressed his forearm and the beep stopped. The others looked at him questioningly. "That was my pager, 'he said, "I have a micro chip under the skin of my arm." A few minutes later a phone rang. The Japanese fellow lifted his palm to his ear. When he finished he explained, "That was my mobile phone. I have a micro chip in my hand."

The hillbilly felt decidedly low tech, but not to be outdone he decided he had to do something just as impressive. He stepped out of the sauna and went to the bathroom. He returned with a piece of toilet paper hanging from his ass.

The others raised their eyebrows and stared at him. The hillbilly finally said...."Well, will you look at that, I'm getting a fax"

the amp is great...it has just as much distortion as the laney did with the ds-1....it's no mesa triple rectifier by no means ... the clean channel is really good too...

SOTD: mystical potato head groove thing...

I know nothing about the Jem guitars so I can make no comments or advice.. other than Steve Vai plays em really good...lol

same for the legacy amps...have never played one before..

I used to have a Marshall and this traynor isn't any less of an amp in my book...

Joe, in that recent Guitar Player article previewing the new album there are a couple concert pics of you where you are doing a technique I have never seen you do. Your left hand is coming over the top of the fretboard, and it looks like you are fretting three or four notes with your left hand,,somewhere around the 14th fret..and your rt hand is also fretting a bunch of notes...at higher frets..at the same time. It's kind of hard to explain..but if you know what I mean..what are you doing?..lol..it looks cool..as does everything you do! In other news...looks as though Buckethead has left Guns N Roses.

I had two midterms today...ugh! I did see five more bikini-clad women catching sun outside as I walked to class, though. :-)

trutina - I voted for Motorcycle Driver over New Blues... =)

Ya Yo Gakk - Uncle Joe is a cool DJ, but 95.5 KLOS blows 93.1 away...
Jimmy Kane - The US gets ITLIS? a day earlier than you. ;-)
michelle - Tell your daughter to start playing video games! That'll give her some finger strength...haha. ;-)
mikesan - The LZ cover band did a really cool version of Moby Dick. They started off the song full-band like LZ did, but then they went into a really funky bass solo with the guitar and drums playing some simple backing stuff. The drum solo was next...the drummer didn't use four sticks, but he did play through a lot of Bonzo's patterns. It was VERY good.

Thanks for posting that old Satch interview.

Fretslayer - Hahaha...maybe it was a slow news day... RS had to review something, so they went with CP. ;-)
Powerslave214 - The first round of voting has closed, but you can vote in the upcoming rounds. I'll post round two in a few days...

Thanks for the link to the extra GP stuff...

962 - LOL...oh well. I've never really been a fan of The Forgotten, so Surfing With The Alien's victory doesn't bother me too much.
Zenfish - We can talk about anything we want to here as long as we do it respectfully. There's nothing wrong with talking about politics.
DelfinoPie - You play harmonics by touching a string with your fretting hand (but not pressing it down on the fretboard) and picking normally. You can only do this at certain spots on the string. Try it right above the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets.
Scanlan - The JS1000 has a PAF Pro pickup, while the JS1200 has a PAF Joe pickup. There's a mistake on Ibanez's website.
Sharif - My high score is 9,841,500...I don't think I've played pinball yet this year, though.
Sammy Andrews - Congrats on the amp!
Loo Who - Yeah, the purple drawing was done by Z.Z.

...Austin...

DTS and Delfino it's kind of weird but DTS said you can play at the 5th, 7th, 12, and 19th(?) frets right? well if you have a high enough distortion or just play loud enough you can get harmonics near anywhere on the low E and A strings. It is a technique used by misterZakk Wylde from Ozzy. (I think it was Zakk. It's played on Slow Down. the intro. fun song.) =-) hope I helped trutina I'll e-mail soon just remembered!

Holy crap, this website kicks more and more ass with every new album hehe.

Anyway, I can't wait for this album, Astronomy and Guitar- my 2 biggest passions converging into 1 journeyous aural experience. Dwaaa! Finally, the long awaited answer will come to the question of- Is there love in Space? And what better man to answer that than Joe? Well, maybe Dr. Carl Sagan but, this rambling has gone on too far... Anyone else excited as I am?!

Someone asked about what 311 Day is a few days ago- 311 is a rock band- www.311.com and on March/11 (3.11) they play a very special show in New Orleans, this year it was clocked at 5.5 hours, with 68 songs played! Theres some stamina.

CALLING ALL FANS OF JOE SATRIANI ! All fans of JS, please listen; we are seriously under-represented! I was "Surfing" the web earlier, and I found a popular site for reviews, Epinions.com, which had Joe's biggest albums, like "Surfing with the Alien," and "Crystal Planet." But each only had three or four reviews for it!!! This is a major problem. If everyone could stop by 'epinions.com' and search 'satriani' and just give a short summary of these awesome pieces, it would do a lot. Just a short paragraph or two from hundreds of people would get a lot of attention, so stop by; it only takes a couple of minutes!
If you have the time, longer, more in-depth reviews are obviously encouraged, but anything you can add would be great! Shred on, Joe! Tim

From the interview link Mikey posted above ~

SR: You worked with the studio musicians John's brought in doing about a song a day in the 14 days you had booked. Any first takes? JS: Sure, "SMF" was effortless to play. "Cool #9" and "Sittin' Round" were just so much fun to play. Every song was a roller coaster ride. They really excelled as experiences for all of us in the direction that the meaning of the song propelled it. For instance, on "Down Down Down" we did four versions and after that no one could play it any more. It was too deep and traumatic to return to that emotional spot each time to give a good performance. Glyn caught the right one.

Very cool interview about my fav. Satch cd. SMF effortless? Whoa!!
