Austin: but in each case, someone is always obtaining (stealing) music that he / she didn't purchase what if a cd i own is scratched beyond repair and i go and download it to replace it? i did pay for that music (ok, once) - am i still stealing?

Phrydom, interesting question here... In my opinion, if your CD is scratched, you should have it replaced by the recording company itself. The software industry used to do it (don't know if they still do). That's because you have paid for what's in it, either software or music, not for the CD itself (the medium). That should be done at no cost, or at least at the cost of the medium, since the cost of manufacturing a compact disc is ridiculously low. Of course, you would have to send the damaged disc to them. And if the disc is long out of print and they don't have any in stock, they should burn a CD-R for you from the original master.

MP3s and file sharing are changing the way we see music, not only the way we hear it. So let's hope it changes the way the recording companies deal with the content (the music) and the medium (the CDs). Specially because CDs are not as undestructible as they want us to believe.

I hate it when the computer crashes and burns.

U.F. Dean: I am sure that any exercise over done can be harmful in some way. I have been using the rubber bands for years. I wrap the bands around the fingers to force the fingers apart from the hand puppet position. I have a metal ring that I got from one of those hanging chime things and positioned the rubber bands around it. I then place my fingers in the rubber bands and force my hand to close in the hand puppet position. The only bad thing I guess, is I only did it with my left hand, and it is very noticeably larger that my right hand. I have been playing since 1981. My fingers on my left hand are about a ½ knuckle longer than the fingers on my right hand. I attribute this to playing all these years. I have basically been training my hand to squeeze like working a hand puppet when it is talking. I find this helps with chording. I have given lessons to a few kids and some relatives. I make them do basic up and down picking finger exercises for 3 months, 30 min/1 hr. a day before I teach them any chords. I find this trains the coordination with the brains communication between the left hand and right hand, so when they attempt to make chords for the first time, it is fairly easier for them to do. I tell them train your hands first and it will be easier for you to play. I also make them practice the basic open chords with just their pinky, ring, and middle fingers. I believe this does two things, It strengthens the pinky finger, and it leaves the index finger for barring as you play the same chords as you change positions up the neck. I basically teach how to teach yourself to play though training. I leave the style and level they wish to accomplish up to them. Hope this help to explain what has worked for me. Peace and nice talking to you................Clint

ThE mYsTiCaL pOtAtO: Your right man, it does happen to every band with a new release, and Jazzy Boy made some good points for it, but the thing that bothers me about it is that it becomes the spoiler of the actual release date, and it losses it's original significance because we dont think of the release date anymore.... We tend to think of the artist being raped IMHO....

Matt Martinez: Amen on Kazaa brotha!!.... That is good to hear!!.... lol, bad boys bad boys, wacha gonna do, whacha gonna do when the cybercops come for you.... hehe ;-)

JS_JS: Thanks for posting Fretslayers site link again!!.... btw, have fun at your band practice!! :-)

Jazzy Boy: We probably wont see Lars coming down to our homes to delete Metallica Mp3's just like we wont ever see another killer Metallica song.... AMEN bro, AMEN!!

Do The Stu: Happy depression, lol, and I like your idea of linking everyones kuul music sites together!!.... It's about time!! :-)

eta: hehe.... ok, Dozo ga matsu is literally Please the Pine Tree.... lol, how do I do that!! ;-).... Gomen nasai, nihon go ga hanase-masen! Wakarimasu ka? Bravo, that was perfect!!.... Im sorry, but I dont speak Japanese! Do you understand?.... Your studies are coming along great!!.. Soon you will be able to make your trip to Japan young Kwai Chang Kane.... ;-)

Clarky: haha, Suzuki Piss for G3, lmao!!.... btw, waffie let you out with a kitchen pass!?!?.... Your anniversay must be coming up bro, check the calendar!!.... hehe....

Oh, I forgot.... I'm glad you were only using balsa wood on the waffie, lol, kona would be considered abusive, lmao!!.... Have fun in the lab again, and do me a favor.... Invade France anyway, rotflmao!! ;-)

One more thing.... What are you talking about with Tastey??.... nice and long and has nice dynamics.... rotflmao again!! ;-)

VFRrocker: hahaha, Mikeywikeysanman!!.... I'm starting to think that Mike Sake would be good, lmao!!.... Maybe I should take your advice and go back to ovation, or Artanis I's suggestion of OVAItion!!.... lol!!....

One day out in the Texas panhandle, a guy sees a sign in front of a house: "Talking Dog for Sale."

He rings the bell and the owner tells him the dog is in the backyard. Theguy goes into the backyard and sees a Basset Hound just sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yep," the Basset replies.

"So, what's your story?"

The Basset looks up and says, "Well, I discovered this gift pretty young and I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies eight years running.

"The jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to settle down. So I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security work, mostly wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings there and was awarded a batch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

"Ten dollars."

The guy says, "This dog is amazing. Why on earth are you selling him, so cheap?"

"He's a liar. He didn't do any of that shit.

GGnG: I think it's a great idea and the way that you've described it makes perfect sense to me. I had just heard rumors that's all. That open chords with just the 3 fingers is a great idea. Wish someone had taught me that because I can't play what would be a C if it was open with those fingers. Come to think of it I couldn't play a D or G either haha

eta: please wait is chotto matte kudasai, lol, matsu is also a word for the verb waiting, so you were half correct, lol....

How are you doing in its most basic form is O genki desu ka.... Genki (pronounced "Genkey") means happy.... So it means: "Are you happy"....

See you soon is Matta attode ne, which literally means "Again later ok".... lol, that is the hard (or easy) part of Japanese.... Very direct with the subject at the beginning of the sentence (as well as conversation-wise)....

On Kwai Chang Kane.... There was a hit TV series called Kung Fu with David Carradine (in the U.S.) and he grew up with the Shaolin Monks.... He was half American and Chinese, and that was his name.... David Carradine played Kane as an older adult traveling (seemed like forever) through the desert in search of his parents, I think, lol.... It was a kuul show cause the fight scenes were realistic, and Dave actually studied Kung Fu.... btw.... When he was a kid (in the Shaolin Temple), his name was Grasshopper.... lol....

adrianorb: ROTFLMAO!!.... Thanks!!.... ;-)

Sargent t: Welcome to the Satch Realm, and ask away!! :-)

Matt King, I haven't written JR lately, but it's on my list of things to do for about 2 weeks now. lol! I want to see if he got any of Joe & Steve's new music (DVD's & cd's). Yeah, I miss him too. It's just not the same without his everyday banter. Ahhh, the good old days. lol! Life gets in the way. lol!

Julie, "off to dentist for my wisdom check up... ugh... " does that mean he'll be testing your I.Q.? lol!

I like Kevin Smith, and Carlin is my favorite. Should be a good movie as long as J.Lo isn't it it. lol!

I ran out this morning and got the new acoustic Godsmack cd. It's pretty good from what I've heard so far :) Skipped breakfast too. I'm starving!

Mikey, if you're going to please the pine tree, make sure no one see's you. Although I'm sure the pine tree would enjoy it, you'll scare the children...and adults...and animals...and maybe even the other trees... LOL!

I agree that music should not be leaked before its release date. It just feels defeating as an artist to see an anxious crowd that sometimes goes sour because others are screwing up their excitement by downloading highly anticipated music.

And finally, downloading does help artists like JS and tonnes of others who never get any MTV airplay or recognition. If it werent for the internet, I would'nt be buying and listening to artists such as JS, Eric Johnson, Malmsteen, Opeth and others.
