Joe, Do you know if the new release will be out soon on a SACD? I enjoyed Engines of Creation and Strange Beautiful Music on SACD. They clearly sound better than regular CD's . A fan since the 80's, Jon.

Jazzy boy don't broadly diss all republicans, alright? there are morons on both sides of the fence. don't be such a holier than thou. personally, I can't stand those pandering liberals that always say what you want to hear. thats not a knock on you, just stop believing all the hype and think for yourself. Btw: bush is my commander in chief and he's a wank. and kerry is also a freaking loser. so we lose both ways. at least bush will defend this country even if hollywood says: " it's not cool "

JS JS greetings fellow conservative voice.

I would love to see ITLIS on sony sacd

steve stevens flamenco a go go is also on dvd audio and sounds ruthless in 5.1 surround.

hooray for conservatives.
the country needs crazy people on both sides for balance. i've been on both sides and can't deal with either enough to consistently align myself, but oh well ;)

js_js
my thoughts on why saying "he can play better than you" (re: yngwie) isn't valid.
number 1: i would tend to think that if a budding young guitarist started being able to shred like that, people would encourage him to do what he wanted to (i say he and him to be grammatically correct, and because guys play guitar better than girls), but cut to yngwie YEARS later and he's still playing the same stuff? he's obviously a VERY talented player, but he's not pushing his limits in any way. this disappoints me to see that someone can be static but still have a huge fan base, not to mention he's not the most pleasant guy in a professional context.
number 2: it just isn't necessarily true to say "he's better than you"
yngwie's faster than me, but i guarantee you that i will (and possibly have) done things that interest more people on a musical level than him. most people get on him because his solos are lame -- personally, from what i've seen, i think our own humble matt king is a better writer and soloist than yngwie because is playing is just more tasteful. granted, that's by my own arbitrary definition of what's good and what isn't, which brings me to my next point.
number 3: by my own arbitrary definition of what's good and what isn't, yngwie blows hard when it comes to good songs.

edit: don't anyone go and take this post TOO seriously. lol

Hi Joe. Is an interview possible?

I run a website dedicated to free guitar lessons. One by one I am trying to do interviews with my favorite players. The theme of the interview would be philosophies regarding practice, learning, recording and songwriting. The interview would certainly be seen by thousands of aspiring players, as the site popularity is ever increasing. Please let me know if you are interested and what your terms are.

Incidentally I am working on my own cd. I am currently living in Munich and return to the states in September. I am hoping to put together a band in the Boston area, with the ultimate goal being to submit a top notch demo to Favored Nations. One step at a time, right?

Rock on,

I think the tunes I like on the new album are more than worth the price of the CD.I really, really love the title track. Its up there with Joe's finest, for me.Its just beautiful. The outro solo is perfect.

Im really anxious to hear the bonus tracks, hopefully they are more the esoteric type songs that Joe does that I love so much, as opposed to the "rocking out and having a good time" songs, which just aren't me.Weird how that works.

I like the strange stuff.

Ethn the title track does rule man! I can't stop listening to it. The album as a whole is ok, but that song is just rediculously cool. so is Gnaaah, even if the solo sounds like a bit of a borg sex ripoff.

I'm having a hard time with this album for some reason. it almost feels like an EP or something, instead of a full-blown record. And yeah, he does the atmospheric stuff pretty great. I could do with an album full of turkeymen and racing clouds, lol.

ocps - ha.. no worries.. C11?? C9?? who cares.. that's just adding up.. the main thing though is understanding

1 - how to spell the chord and name it

2 - what key is is derived from

because each of the three chords I listed are derived from a different key.... which is important not only for solo's etc.. but also for working out the 11th and 13th should you need them..

trutina - patience?? this is a labour of love.. my lil' creation.. and all things will come together in their own sweet time....

being in labour fukn sux and I been rippin' my fukn hair out... lmao...

Mikey - In the blue corner weighing in at 230lb, 5'10" fighting out of the SE London Bar Ruk Do Dojo [likes flower arranging, tennis and wants to love and peace throughout the world - no lie] Cllllllllaaaaarrrrrkkkkkeeeeeeeee.... and in the red corner weighing in at 22lb, 3 1/2" fighting out of the Yamaha factory Dojo Japan [likes messing with peoples heads, missbehaving and generally pissing everyone off] AAAAAAAA dub yoooooouuuu siiiiiixx teeeennnnnnn..

So after 15 rounds it could have gone either way but in the end sheer size and weight prevailed... Clarky beats the AW16 by a knockout.. and then another knockout.. and then kicked it around the floor some.. and woke it up.. and knocked it out again....

The Raft mix number 15 is GGGOOOOOOODDDD !!!!

woooohooo.... [marching band playing.... fireworks... crowds cheering... ticker tape falling from the tops of buildings...]....

and only 6 more songs to go.... yeeeeeaaaaah......

Joe. I was wondering if you're going to be in the New Orleans area anytime soon? I've been a fan since 92 and I've never been able to see you live. Drop by New Orleans some time for a show so we can all see you down here on the Gulf Coast.

rusty dog-Nice to see someone agree with me.I felt all by my lonesome when SBM came out, and everyone loved it but me.There were some good tunes on that one though, to be fair.Joe is always gonna have a few tunes on every album that kill me.

I feel bad criticizing Joe (on his own page no less) so I really hope my thoughts don't come off as disrespectful.Joe is as important as it gets for me in the musical world, so I definately don't mean any disrespect, but I won't lie.

I also don't wanna sound like one of those "the old stuff was better"guys.I see the nostalgia thing in full swing at the dream theater websites, and it bugs me when people can't let go of the past.

But, I figure If I get one amazing tune of every album, then I am getting my money's worth a hundred times over.I got 2 awesome tunes from this one, and a couple that I dont mind so much.

At any rate, I KNOW the tour won't disappoint.

Methinks the Clarky album will be released after his passing ... at this rate anyway.

Every time I see Mikey Vai on screen I keep thinking it's Mikey the admin guy from Vai.com

Hectic return from holidays today. Time to go home and cook some tea before bed. Friday awaits, and the weekend beckons! I want some chips. And chocolate. And ice cream. And a roast. And a milkshake. And lollies. Mmmm ... if only I had any of that yummy stuff.

Sandwiches it will be. Loud music (if next door has gone away yet. It is Friday tomorrow after all). Bed.

New gearbox still in the pipeline. Once I get the money.

ethn-even though he sings on it, those chords at the beginning of "I like the rain" are sooo cool sounding. it sounds different than anything else I've heard him do. I don't think the song's that great, but those clean chords rule. boyd was tellin me Gnaaah and hands in the air rule live. but, I admit, i'll be real disappointed come fall if he doesn't play ITLIS live.

oh geez come on guys. Yngwie's not even what this thread/ message board is supposed to be about!

anyway I like the new album and the feel of ITLIS?'s beginning and the whole of Bamboo for their mellow drifting sounds. I like Hands in the Air and Up In Flames because he really just flies on those songs(ok just on UPF but in HITA it has a really good droove and some cool sounding riffs) I like GNAAH just cus it sounds so wierd and funky. I like Lifestyle for it's bluesy groove and for it's strange sounding intro thingy. If I Could Fly has a real nice happy tone like a party that you can't help but enjoy that even Mr. Scrooge would love! The Souls Of Distortion is cool just because it is. I like it. Just Look Up is a little slow for me but it is still very good. I Like The Rain I really like this and the chorus guitar. but, I don't see how Joe's voice soinds bad or muffled. Sounds kind of like Look My Way from so long ago. Searching is an awesome mellow song too but has some sweet sounding things on it too.
