Why does everyone keep judging Robert Fripp before they've even heard him? I guess cuz it's someone that a lot of people haven't heard of, they just asume he's gonna be sh*t. Well....give him a break.....I swear he is gonna be f*ck*n awesome to watch, and Joe and Steve will be feeling privileged to be playing with him.

Delfino, every Good Friday is a bank holiday!
Satanzilla, no Joe is entirely responsible for the G3 selection process. Well sort of - he comes up with a bunch of people and then asks for a public opinion on which one would be best! So the fans don't really get to say who they want to see - they get to vote on which one of a preselected group they would like to see.

Which is good, cuz if we had it totally our own way, we would never see/hear anybody new. Chances are we'd just get petrucci or malmsteen again and again and again and againa and......

But there's no harm in saying things like Nuno Bettencourt For G3! or Eric Johnson For G3 again!

Romanthony, absolutely not amigo - it's never too late to start playing guitar! I know what you mean - I started when I was about 16 or so, and I'm now 20. I'm twice as good as I was 2 years ago, so don't worry - with practice and a good library of loads of different styles of music to listen to, you will find yourself feeling happier about it! It would be nice to be teaching at the age of 14, but that's why there's only a few people in the world sharing the same status as Joe Satriani! Keep on rockin dude, and by the way, welcome to t2j!
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!

Austin: I think I have talked Miranda into voting on this round if that's cool. She doesn't know all the songs so I'll be letting her listen to all of them so she can make a fair decision. I won't coach her too bad lol.

Zenfish: How could we not? There are so many great artists I think we'd have to like at least some of the same ones lol. I don't mean to pry, but tell us a little about yourself. You never really say much about you, as far as what you like to do, or what kind of work you do and the like.

Mr Nick: It was either the commies or the dragons. I say we blow them both up just incase lol

godguns - playing with a lot of pressure means that you could find that you lose a little agility and speed... try to grip just a little less and let me know if it makes a difference in your playing...
tastey - If I recall correctly, you guys in the US get a few more public holidays across the year than us in the UK.. so you guys win in the end.. lol..
sammy - when you're trying to learn G-Everywhere, take your time.. if you get stuck just shout..
phryg - wow... you surprise me.. you never struck me as a 'soldiering type'..

Joe, I woud like to suggest an idea for a G3 style concert if all of the talent elements could be brought together. Your and Steve Vai's presence on the Yardbirds CD suggested to me that you both realize how influential (even to Jimi) the Yarbirds are/were. The concept would be to see if Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page would be willing to drop their individual egos for a tribute to the YBs. It could be formatted in a similar fashion to the G3 shows. Clapton could headline the opener, with the primordial and more blues-based material. Beck and Page to lead the mid section of classic material. And finally a free-for-all raveup with perhaps you and Steve to add to the finale ensemble. I may be just fantasizing, but I think there is hardly a music group in existence that has so profoundly influenced the evolution of Rock music as the Yardbirds. I admire you in the respect that you have shown for the history and inspirational forces that have created Rock as we know it today. The Hendrix tribute show was great, and I admire the way you are able to manage ego and the politics of fame to share the stage and limelight. You are, in my opinion, the finest guitarist this planet has yet produced, and you still show a willingness to pay homage to music itself and other talented musicians. I think that's the way it is supposed to be. You rock, Joe.

Hello Clarky:

In my early years of playing (1981-86 or so) I hooked up with this guy who smoked on everything he played. He taught me a lot of songs and exercises and such. We both started using rubber band exercises and the hand gripers to increase hand strength. We went at it like training our hands for body building. I did not concentrate on the right hand as I did the left. We use to test the strength in our hands with a device that recorded how many pounds of pressure you could squeeze, I have know ideal what the pressure my left hand could squeeze now, but at one time it was over a 150 pounds of sustained pressure. I also practiced (exercises) at that time on an old acoustic with high string action. This guitar required a lot of pressure to sound the notes. I have small hands so I concentrated a lot on exercises that stretched. I can do 5 frets at the nut fairly comfortably. All these exercises and conditioning over the years has caused my left hand to be very noticeably larger than my right hand. My fingers are a half knuckle longer on my left hand. My left hand is longer and more massive than the right. When I show this to people they ask if I was born that way, it’s kind of funny at times. Anyway, the guitars I play now have lower and better actions, that are a lot easier to play. I think the strength in my left hand causes the over pressures (normally). I believe I am doing this without thinking about it. I am paying more attention to it as of late. I am fairly comfortable with my speed. It hasn’t stopped me from playing tunes I want to learn. Hey I will let you know how a lighter touch does for me. Thanks for your interest here, it is greatly appreciated………Clint

Yog: I can't speak for Joe, but going to Israel is one of my dreams. Hopefully I will be able to come there in a couple of years. Peace to you all...........................Clint

I am listening to Sammy Hagar, UNBOXED today.

Hey Joe! I dont know if you're ever gonna read this...but I'm trying anyways...Last year in May you were supposed tp tpur Asia and a part of the thour consisted of a performance in India. We were all anxiously waiting for you.

But then, due to SARS, the tour was cancelled. After that, there has been no indication of you coming this side again. We guys in India are totally starved of good music because hardly any artists visit this part of the world. We expected a lot out of your show, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

As you would have realised by now, this is a humble request to you...PLEASE COME TO INDIA! We are all eagerly waiting for someone to come by and give us a taste of real music and I can think of no one better suited for that than you.

GODSGUNSGUITARS: I think your friend in the 80's lead you astray. For me, left hand technique has always been about using as little pressure as possible and acheiving legato or whatever via finger placement. It seems to me that too much finger pressure can lead to out of tuneness, more fretboard "whack whack" noise when hammering, hand soreness and extra fret wear. I guess just try to lighten up a bit....but if there are no problems then ignore my dumb ass haha!

Hey Joe! The new record is AMAZING! I've been listening to your music since I was 6 and until now I was never disappointed by your albums. I'm also a guitarist (not that good though). Anyway, I just wanted to make you my compliments for the record!

Really loved "Just look up" and "Searching"!

OCPS470, Hey how are you:

We never meant for the exercises to give us more pressure on the fret board. We simply wanted to have a stronger hand because our bends and vibratos sucked, and to increase hand strength for endurance. Which I believed helped us, because my bends improved very soon after. My comment to Clarky, the exercise I e-mailed him is a pretty long exercise, and that I could get about ½ way through or so before I started to cramp up. He mentioned hand pressure, and I commented that I tend to use more pressure than necessary to play. And this is I believe from the strength training over the years on the left hand, and not really through just pushing to hard. I do not have any trouble with the pressure sounding out of tune, or any other noises from the techniques you mentioned. I have been paying more attention to the pressure I am putting on the neck, but I can’t tell if it’s making a difference yet, but it is something I really hadn’t thought of until Clarky mentioned it. Time will tell. Hey I will e-mail you the exercise so you can see what I am talking about, just keep in mind that it is just an exercise in key, and not necessarily a study of the scale patterns themselves. Peace…………………Clint

Zenfish no worries, mate :-) I personally am not too keen on the older stuff... the first album I got was Three Of A Perfect Pair, and I loved (still love!) it! I went back to Red, and like that too, but anything earlier just tended to remind me of early Genesis, so I didn't like it as much. :-/ I have a few videos, the one that starts with Dinosaur is very good!

Clarky I'm full of surprises, me lol... just ask the Brothers Ayres about my 711 obsession! lmao

one person here will definitely know what I'm talking about here, maybe others will too, but usenet and me hooked up today for a pretty fine experience! ;-)

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend (and I hope it's a long weekend in your part of the world!)... laters, Dave

Hehehe...I should beg and plead more often. It always makes people vote. ;-)

trutina - Hey, that's cool... Miranda is more than welcome to vote, as long as I don't see any funny stuff on your behalf (such as Midnight coming back from the dead to destroy Satch Boogie). LOL...

The round should be open through Mondayish (?).

notniceguy - I'm sure Joe would love to make it back to India soon... He has a fairly busy schedule for the next few months, though...
EthnHayabusa - Yeah...you were the fourth person to vote.
