mari, "feel sicker quicker than getting better faster." I'm not even blonde and I understand that perfectly. LOL! I feel better today. My stomach was still swimmy yesterday. Hopefully it's over. Thanks :)
Joeman, we can dance again when you find it in your mailbox. LOL!
Sammy, GGGuitars, Austin, I asked my son if he wanted to learn some old Aerosmith. He wasn't to interested. I asked him about learning a Sabbath tune and I played NIB for him. His eyes lit up and he went to the computer to check for tabs. He thinks it might be to hard, but he might try it. He's also into Alice & Chains & Nirvana, so we shall see.
GGGuitars, yes, I caught your drift. LOL!!
guitarded boy, I got standard shipping and I got my cd on Saturday, however, when I pre-prdered G3 03 very early, I received it a few days after the release date. Who knows?
Zinc, that's how it seems to go. I ordered ITLIS late, and got it sooner. Ordered G3 03 early & got it late. Now we know, huh?
Bil, all better :) Thanks!
Joeman & JS JS, I agree with what Sammy said about school. Do your best even though you don't like it. You'll regret it if you don't. Friendly advice :)

So this year which song from Love in Space will be nominated for a grammy?
Lets hope this time around Joe wins the grammy. The awards fans give are more valuable than those grammys which are given by dinosaurs who know jack shit about music. But I guess since the grammy's have institutionalised the perception of winning an 'award,' we see it as the ultimate. For me, the ultimate award is sitting in a tourbus with 10 naked groupies in leashes on their knees meowing me. hee hee hee.

the whole point behind my post was that i really dislike when people sign up for an account on someone's webpage, wait 24 hours for it to be cleared, JUST to say something negative. I see it on all the boards (Vai, Petrucci, etc..)...and i had four years of spanish in high school. I can speak it fairly well...;)

Ciao Joe,
As always you are the best! I hope to come to the next G3 in Italy. If I send you my address why don't you present me a guitar?!? 'Cause you've got many guitars and I'll have a wonderful memory from you!! ;) Another last thing, your last album is great, but I'd like that you could return to a "stronger" rock because you show you can do it when you want to.
Thanks for your creations!
Nicola
P.S. sorry for my english, I am italian and I know it's not perfect!

Bouncer123- your English is fine but it doesn't matter anyway. Your posting here because your a fan of Joe's so do it in any language your comfortable with. If you want to do it in English that's terrific but it matters not how perfect it is. I doubt any of us here who speak English as our first language are going to be winning any awards for it any time soon anyway. Welcome to T2J.

yeah ... but Jeff Beck won the grammy for the category in which Joe was nominated. Joe says he couldn't care less about the grammys. I agree ... it is institutionalized. I don't even watch them anymore.

Rusty Dog - I completely agree...I was never that crazy about The Extremist and it's the one album of Joe's I rarely listen to. Not that it's bad, but I just get tired of it quickly. I much prefer albums like Crystal Planet, SBM, and his new one.

Here's my review of Satch's "ITLIS?" as I posted it on Harmony-Central.com.
Enjoy!
I have managed to score a promotional copy of Joe's new album, "Is There Love in Space?". I have to admit, on first listen I wasn't that impressed especially when compared to his previous works. But, like always.....I have to go through repeated listenings of anything new that Joe puts out before I can really make a judgement. It takes time to come eye to eye with what Joe is trying to coveyon each outing, and you really need to give the material a chance before discarding it.
After listening to it all the way through multiple times I can make these observations.
There's no doubt about it, Joe's playing is still at its peak.....he is masterful in his technical ability and his phrasing just drips with soul and emotion. IMHO, he's one of the best guitar players in the world and he proves it again and again. He's the reason I picked up the guitar.
However, with the weirdness currently inherent in the music industry today and players of his calibur having been pushed aside in favor of more remedial artists, his songwriting seems to be suffering. I really think, especially, with "ITLIS?", that he's become more trusting in the dynamic of live performance......taking the approach of "Hey guys, I've got a few cool chord progressions down and these basic melodies.....lets go into the studio and just see what we come up with."
This latest album is more or less a combination of ideas previously explored in "Strange Beautiful Music" and his self titled "Joe Satriani" CD. Its very "Blues Fusion"....lots of Pentatonic Blues runs with the occaisional healthy dose of lydian, mixolydian, dorian, or phrygian dominant phrasing which is really more or less what we've come to expect from Joe over the years. Most of the songs really seem to be very "Hey, Lets Jam" oriented.....and that's cool. But......its a very strong departure from the Joe we grew to know and love through the "Surfin'", "Flyin'" and "Extremist" efforts. Joe used to be very conscious of writing meticulously structured, intricately planned, note for note compositions. The whole feeling of the album is more loose and less structured.
On past efforts, particularly his older discs like "Surfin", "Flying", "Extremist", and "Crystal Planet", I've found myself liking EVERY track on the disc.....with his latest efforts like "EOC", "SBM", and "ITLIS?" I've discovered there are tracks that no matter how many times I listen to them.....I just don't like'em.....they say nothing to me at all. I chalk it up to Satch just getting older and exploring new avenues of music and approaches to production. It could be that as I grow older...MY tastes are changing.
All in All, "ITLIS?" is really typical of what I've come to expect from Joe as he's gotten older. But Joe is anything but the typical guitarist. Where most players refine with age....Joe's the opposite. He started in the professional mainstream in '87 very refined, meticulous and experimental and has gradually gotten more loose and relaxed. Confident that he no longer has anything else to prove to the music community, I really think he's choosing a much more laid back approach to his playing, not to mention songwriting. Playing what HE want's to play and not what someone else wants him to play. And ya know what?......Its all good.
It is a good album though, and I encourage you to go pick it up when its released. There are two copies out there with my name on them.
"There's always a barrier to break down. There's always a left turn where people think, 'No, yer supposed to go right.'" - Joe Satriani
**Peace**

Hi Joe,
I have done a lot of research on your pedal and amp setup. I am still, however, looking for a specific tone. What pedals and setttings did you use on the solo for "UP IN THE SKY"? Great sound!

Museman, what an arse...the guy selling G3 tickets at 250%. I hate ebay.....I tried to sell my RGT on there, it ended today, and someone bid a lousy £365 on it, despite it having a hard case and Joe's pickups........the world of second-hand guitars is one populated by tight-fisted bastards.
Ethn, you should have unleashed the Ninja fury on the tone-deaf instrument browser!
Is There Any Point In Space?
Okay, how many of you have watched 2001: A Space Odyssee? I watched it last night and.....what the f*ck? It confused me. It was all goin really well right up until HAL shut down and the pre-recorded briefing starts. then there's all this crazy stuff goin on with bad techno-lights, a white room with some furniture in it, and a black monolith. What exactly happened?
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
IceZer, the people who have been recieving Joe's new record in the mail are those who have ordered it online from Sony. That's cuz they've been getting the limited edition one with the autographed booklet, something you can only get in the US.

OCPS - dude it works like this...
C, E, G, Bb, D = C9 because it is built over a dominant 7 chord
C, E, G, B, D = C major 9 because it is built over a major 7 chord
C, Eb, G, Bb, D = Cm9 because it is built over a minor 7 chord
