Hehehe... I said I was ten pages behind in my other post this morning, but I meant to say I was ten posts behind... I guess I really was in a hurry to get to class. ;-)

I'm starting to work on my final project for my computer ethics class. I have to examine an ethical issue related to computers that raises both philosophical and legal questions. I really want to do a project on the ethics of illegal filesharing (using programs like Kazaa), but I have a feeling most of the class will be doing the same thing. So, to be different, I thought I'd also focus my project on the ethics behind legal filesharing (trading bootlegs of taper-friendly bands) using programs like Bit Torrent and Furthur, and through websites from bands like Primus and Phish.

I already have a good list going (in addition to the things I just mentioned), but I want to include as many examples as possible. So...if anyone here knows of any other legal ways to buy or trade bootlegs over the internet, can you post a website address or something here for me? Thanks. :-)

death cube k - You still haven't heard ITLIS?...? That's heresy! I hope you plan to buy it soon...

michelle - "just because it comes in your size doesn't mean you have to wear it"

Haha...that's so true.

Ariamac - I'm a bassist... My favorite bass is my Fender Stu Hamm Urge II. :-)
UF Dean - Do you like Gnaahh or Bamboo?

To make things a little more organized, I thought I'd put my abortion comments in a separate post (well, two separate posts, because I'm a few characters over the limit)...

(Part I)

TASTEY - "it has nothing to do with why they need or want it or what the situation"

It has everything to do with that sometimes. You can't have an abortion if you aren't pregnant. Sometimes thinking ahead will prevent an abortion a few months in the future.

"condoms break, birth control pills can fail, rape, etc."

People also have abortions for other reasons, though. That list doesn't include everything.

"yeah dont have sex, but that aint gonna happen...."

You can't just dismiss a possible solution by saying it won't happen.

Stu Clone - "you're so sexist, automatically assuming 'she' is having the abortion"

LOL... ;-)

I'm against abortion because I believe life begins at conception. If you have an abortion, you end a child's life. I have trouble understanding how a woman, knowing that half of the baby is just like her (half of its genes come from her), can comfortably have an abortion and end her baby's life.

To look at being pregnant from the worst possible point of view: (note: Before anyone reading this gets pissed off and decides to yell at me, read my previous sentence again, focusing on the words "the worst possible point of view".)

Even if she isn't able to raise the child (because she's going to school, working two jobs, or whatever), instead of having an abortion couldn't she just deal with the "inconvenience" of being pregnant for nine months and then give the baby up for adoption? Is nine months of "inconvenience" worth it to know that you've brought a life into the world? I would hope so. Is taking the easy way out in this case (having an abortion) worth a lifetime of asking yourself "What if ...?"... I sure hope not.

"in response to your question to jazzy boy about people stealing food whenever they get hungry, i think this is a fundamentally different issue where the person committing the "crime" -- as it is a crime insofar as it is against the law -- is doing something to themselves."

It's the same issue. Yes, they're doing something to themselves. But at the same time and with the same action (the abortion), they're doing something to (ending the life of) an innocent child...just as you would be doing something to (stealing food from) an innocent shopkeeper in my example with jazzy boy.

The death penalty is a life issue to me as well. I'm generally against it, but the issue really isn't as important to me right now. As far as I know, the death penalty only results in about a hundred deaths in this country each year...right? Abortions kill over a million kids in this country each year.

962 - "dude, sometimes it is an honest accident. If you were having sex with someone and the condom split and she got pregnant, would you say to yourself 'well I should have known better'"

You misunderstood me. When I said "some people aren't educated about protected sex", I was referring to people who don't practice safe sex. They're more likely to have unwanted pregnancies (and more abortions) than people who do practice safe sex.

"[A baby's] mother is entirely responsible for it's survival, and it is entirely dependent on her"

There are some handicapped people who are completely dependant on other people for survival. Are they any less alive than we are? If not, then why is a baby?

(Part II)

dragonchild - "I'm curious if you think abortion should be legal or illegal to start with?"

I think they should be illegal, for many of the reasons that I mentioned in my post to Stu Clone. I don't think it's fair to immediately approach the issue from a black and white (legal and illegal) perspective, though.

"Whether it is taking a life is also your opinion. As far as I know it's not been proved when a foetus becomes a person. I think it's very subjective how to judge that"

May I ask when you think life begins, and why? I think it begins at conception. Among other things, at that moment the baby has its own unique genetic code. Yes, it's dependent on its mother at this point...but it will also be dependent on its mother for a few years after birth. If it isn't a life while it's inside its mother, why is it a life when it's a year old?

"I'm not sure abortion is the only solution [in jazzy boy's example]"

I agree.

"A woman having an abortion is making a decision that affects her own body, and only she can judge whether she is doing the right thing or not."

It also affects the child, though... I mentioned my reasoning behind that in my post to Stu Clone above...

Why don't we count the nine months that we are in the womb, like when were born to the outside world, we should be 9 mos old already right lol yeah I don't know what I'm talking about, just killing time.

abortion should be illegal for many reasons. lets say.. the baby in the womb... it's alive and kickin but not out there yet, how can u give up a life like that through abortion? it's the same as killing a baby 1 hour old. how can u do it? it's heartless i reckon. give the baby a chance in life,
life is precious, don't waste it.
my opinions are that abortion is wrong and should be illegal, it's just wrong, like killing a perfectly good kid.

mick87: No problem man, and I guess you noticed the Mike Stern interview in Guitar1 as well? Pretty nifty stuff, I'll have to check him out sometime soon. I also noticed in the Clapton interview that he's using Nathan East in his current line up, the bassist Joe used on JS95. Small world.

Austin: Check out some fan sites for Pearl Jam and of course the Grateful Dead. Don't know if that will show you anything different or not, but that's the best I can come up with.

bluebuffalo: If we counted our age like that, Michelle would already be 40 and I don't think she's quite ready to all of a sudden be 40 lol.

It was crazy, I just had a big jam with my band in my basement, we had sooo much stuff plugged in, lights, amps, effects, and other stuff, and then, outa no where, BLACKOUT!!!!!! We caused a big blackout, my whole neighborhood was out, down the road, as far as I checked out. People were freaked out at me!!! 1 kid came up to me and said that he was about done with a report, he had 3 sentences left, and then......blackout!!!! It was very funny!!! About 10 minutes later the power came back, pretty quick, so I went and unplugged most of the stuff, and then started playing. Well, that was pretty cool, I got my whole street mad, complaining and stuff, I just keep on walking and say it wasn't me! Also, I was in the middle of a Satriani song too, I believe it was Ice 9.

trutina- " It has been my experience, that every single printer known to man can be put in just one category. Doesn't matter what type, dot matrix, laser jet, ink jet, whatever. They all fall in the category of Piece Of Shit. They should have that sign over all the printers in all the stores. The salesperson would ask, "Would you like your piece of shit to ruin your paper with color blotches or just black and white ones?" THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT!!!! not only did i have a well deserved laugh, but I also spit out my animal crackers! lol... it always seems too that i can print 487 pages of utter crap and it will work beautifully but the minute i need to print a 12 page black and white with no graphics paper for school thats when it goes belly up!

Matt Martinez- thanks for the heads up on voting for satch!

Hope all in Satchland have a good evening!

I hadn't listened to FIABD in a loooooong time (at least a year).

So last saturday we took a long drive, and being all fired up from seeing Satch the previous week, FIABD ended up in my CD player.

Is there any Satch song that still, to this day, makes you want to cry in excitement when u hear it?? 'Cause for me, Day at the Beach still does it. And I have my wife as witness.

It would be wonderful to hear Joe play Day at the Beach live, at like 300 decibels, so that as soon as the song ends you go deaf. "The last sound I ever heard was Day at the Beach". I could live with that.

And this fits into the category of dramatic, movie-type life scenes. For example: I'm rather "sure" that I'll suffer a heart attack during my lifetime. What better moment to have it than after scoring the championship-winning goal with my soccer team??!?!

You may conclude from this post that we lost the championship game. Again. But also you may conclude that I'm a bit crazy. Either way, Kirk Hammett still sucks. Later.

Do the stu thanx for the reply, nice bass you lucky dude.

MY VOTES IN FOR JOE - Outstanding guitarist category. Check Matt Martinez's post for link.

Brother Al you might want to check out the 'Guitar pro software' as they have a large archive of files. HERE . its a much better program than powertab.. i changed over as it has a wide variety of things you can do/instruments/general lar-de-dar. guitar effects and so on. If you do download the demo HERE SOMEWHERE and like it, i suggest downloading 'guitar pro 4 full version' from kazaa (sorry kazaa haters).

On the file archive at www.mysongbook.com you can download *.gp4 or *.gp3 (older guitar pro software) formats but both work on GP4. You also need a file ZIP program to open some (very few) of the files on there. well hope you enjoy.

oh brother al i also agree - joe's music is deep.. at hurtful times i have been through a rainbow of emotions. thanks Joe.

Erm... yeh. I believe.. track on at the mo... *sigh :-D
