novjul: No feathers ruffled here. Yeah, Harlan does have a rep, doesn't he? ;-) You should see him speak if you ever get a chance, it's well worth it. Same goes for Neil Gaiman and Ray Bradubury as well.
Well the EKG came out just fine...to the best of everyone's knowledge my heart is completely healthy. Kinda neat to see it beat in real time, and also not see any chestbursters from Alien in there! : Þ

Stace - life chaging event???? it's not too personal a question
it's something I've not thought about really..
I guess that's because I did not have a 'near death experience'
folks that have serious accidents etc are aware at the time of the seriousness of the situation.. I never was aware.. ignorance is bliss.. lol..
three days after the opperation I was talking to a nurse when she was doing her routine stuff on me [blood pressure, blood oxygen count, change my drips etc] and we got chatting...
I was curious and said something like "the guy to my left has a collapsed arterty in his neck.. he's deep in the shit.. the guy to my right has a serious problem with the veins in his legs and is also deep in the shit.. in fact everyone in this ward is deep in the shit.. like with stuff that can kill them.." she said "yes, this ward is for people needing and recovering from major surgery.. and everyone in here is in a fair bit of trouble.. sort of one notch below intensive care.."
I asked "so what am I doing in here then?"
she said "you was the sickest guy in here.. but you're ok now.. everything is healing very well.."
she told me that what happened to me was almost fatal
so I didn't know how much trouble I was in until after the event... kind of like someone telling you that three days ago someone took a shot at you and missed..
so no 'near death experience' for me..
I laid there on my own thinking about it.. and I was feeling sort of weird for a while.. like "shit.. that could have been 'it'.. finito.." but then I thought.. "shit.. it wasn't 'it'.. I'm still in.. going nowhere.. don't dwell on it.. crack on and chill out"
so I was ok.. on the Thursday I was sitting in the chair by my bed and I did get a little upset for a short while.. but I don't know what about or why.. maybe the pain killers were messing with my head a bit..
when I got home I got a little upset again.. sort of "shit.. I'm at home.." - sort of a cross between relief and fear of what could have been... but it was only a momentary thing.. just a few minutes..
there was a time when I did get pretty scared.. that was then the pain was at its peak and I was waiting for the Dr to arrive.. it hurt so much it was difficult to breath.. I figured that with each gasp I was only taking in 70 to 80% of what I needed.. I thought I was going to suffocate.. the Dr quickly figure out what was wrong and injected morphine to sort out the pain.. that took away the pain and panic and I breathed easier.. but I was now something like 80 to 90% which left me with a very low oxygen level in the blood.. when the ambulance arrived they put an oxygen mask on me to make up for what I was losing.. I needed an oxygen mask on for four days....
yes - the experience did seriously freak me out..
no - it wasn't deeply life changing..
but I did re-evaluate a few things.. I am forever the optimist..
life is to be enjoyed to the full.. I thought that before the event and so nothing has changed..
I was a mong before and I'm a mong now... lmao...
my lasting memories:
- a level of pain that I didn't know existed
- I was lucky
- I learned how important being fit is because that apparently made a difference before, during and after
- I'm still me

vfr - "DragonChild lmao, I agree ;-) I was going to say that Clarky will know what it is but as you can see he has already proved that." - what have I already proved????
ha.. and I can't find the CD anywhere.. time to call in a search party.. I'm getting all anxious.. lmao..
"that dude has always being sick and I doubt if a quick bout of appendicitis is going to make any difference at all" - very true.. I'd get escorted out of a nut house by security for distressing the in-mates.. lol...
I'm glad that the Rick Astley plague was finally stamped out before any permantent damage to mankind was inflicted.. lmao..
Zen - funny.. I've only just thought about it but there are three French themes on my album:
- The Raft of the Medusa
- Artaud: On the Fringe of Insanity
- Virtus Junxit Mors Non Separabit - which is dedicated to the memory of Jacques de Molay
Stace - ha.. yeah.. lil' ol' me is being picked on all the time... [going for the sympathy angle here.. never fails.. lmao]
novjul - ha.. and I ain't ever been in space... must add that one to the list of things to have failed at.. lol..
Mikey - so many tough lessons learned getting this shit running.. shit.. being a musician and writer of songs is simply not enough.. you have to be a sound engineer, expert in signalling protocols, digital engineer, computer engineer, sub atomic physicist, astro-physicist, de-flowerer of virgins, quaffer dry of bars and an all 'round good egg..
luckily for me I am all these things.. especially with the virgin and bar parts.. lmao...
ariamac - Nick is someone I know reasonably well, like greatly and consider a friend.. so I'll not lie to him..
think on this - a beautiful and valuable guitar in the hands of a novice is exactly that.. a beautiful guitar in the hands of a novice.. a good player can make a lesser instrument sing.. know and believe in yourself..
you appear to have a nice solid foundation and a great attitude / approach upon which to build.. stay dedicated and open to ideas.. but most of all enjoy it and stay in love the the instrument.. and you'll have something special that'll stay with you for life..
it appears to me that you're on the right path...
jblaze - last summer I was in exaclty the same situation as you.. I was looking for a reasonable 8 -track.. I downloaded tons of specs.. Tascam, Fostex, Roland, Boss, Korg, Yamaha, Teac, etc.. and several models from each manufacturer too..
I compared them feature by feature and cost too.. two units really stood out.. the Yamaha and Korg 16 track machines... the Yamaha was the cheaper of the two and had better eq, the Korg had a bigger hard disk.. both can burn CD for both audio and archiving.. the Yamaha had much nicer auto-punch facilities [essential when recording alone]
so the Yamaha AW16G won.. and that's what I have now.. I've had it almost a year and I think it is a superb machine.. mine was around £800 [I guess that's a little over $1,000]
think on this... the 8 track version was around £550 / £600 and was less rich in features.. so the 16 track ws a no-brainer.. not much more money but so much more capability.. if you buy something that you'll grow out of you may regret not saving that little extra for somethnig more powerful..
and remember - the more tracks you have, the less bouncing is needed so the more control you have during mix-down..
save a little longer and get the best unit you can afford

DelfinoPie.....to buy a piece of shit guitar and then hot rod it to the max....hmmmmm...seems to me you'd end up with about the same amount of money that it would take to buy a good guitar...

mikesb - Paraphanalia are an out and out jazz band with hints of blues and funk.. big horn section.. not a million miles from the Mezzo Forte sound.. for me this is nice at first but gets a little sickly after a while and I end up needing riff replacement therapy.. there's no substitute for blood and snot in the mosh pit.. lmao..
I haven't listened to Brand X or Colluseum for yonks.. ha more CD's to blow the dust off.. lol..
you're right about Brit Muso's and prog.. the 70's especially were dominated by Brit players.. there appeared to be a sense of adventure and exploration in the UK at the time that was truely increadible..
slansh - jeez.. I just read my summary.. it seems kinda harsh.. Nick knows me well enough to know that I'm not attacking him though... and giving that summary to your students and they'll be like "keep that nasty Clarky person away from us.." lol..
did anyone see the luna eclipse last night.. where I live the sky was clear... it was simply awesome..

Hey Joe (Get It)
I'm totally into your music. There are some nights I cannot get to sleep because I constantly here your riffs in my head.
I was big into srv for many years (totally stuck in mixolydian)
Your music is obviously much more technical and has opened up a whole new learning process for me.
Seriously! I had to go out and buy just about everything you have put out.
I really like the new one (love in space)
Well gotta go throw surfing with alien in the cd player and jam along.
Keep on rockin in the free world.

Brother al - Yeah, from what I've heard Damien Rice is pretty cool.
Flagg - I absolutely love Van Halen III. What are some of your favorite tracks from the album? I like Once the most, followed by One I Want and From Afar.
Brother al / Sammy Andrews / Joeman9 - Z.Z. is 11 years old.

sammy andrews I figured that would happen, lol. thanks though.
962 thanks, I dont know what I am going to try though, I will decide sometime after I get money (if I do, lol). after driving my car to school today I think most of my money will be going towards that, lol, it is a V8 and a gas hog but it is fast so oh well. not to mention the insurance payments. anyway, thanks for the info.
trutina thanks. I figured I would use a better pedal (if there is one) as a substitute until I get a tube somewhere down the road. but yeah, thanks.

962, go to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110322/ and check it out. It's a great movie!
Alexandre, try to keep your sore leg propped up as much as possible. It will help take down the swelling a bit.
Powerslave, glad your EKG went well :)
Clarky, wild story about your ordeal. Thanks for sharing it. I truely hope you're feeling better with each passing day. Cheers mate!
Ahhh dammit! Will you people STOP saying Rick Astley!!! That friggin' song "Never gonna give you up" has been going on in my head since I read the first post this afternoon!! Gaaahhhhh, I hate that!!! lol!! With his voice I see the face of that red headed kid from American Idol. I'm in pop hell!!
