I have no idea about this maybe Master Yoda or some of you other guys in bands could answer me this:

When you're in a band and your starting out, when you play a crappy pub/bar do you get paid?

Jimmy Kane- do you call yourself that because of the Muse song of for another reason? I have seen Muse live so many times, spend hundreds of pounds travelling all over the place to see them. Absolution went to number one in the mainstream charts in the UK, which goes to show that alternative music is back in, especially with other alt. bands like The Darkness, love them or hate them.

I know that Muse are huge in France, what do you think it is that the French like so much about them? Is it the fact that they are quite theatrical and that sort of thing? It was awesome on the Hullabaloo DVD to see thousands of French fans singing along to every word, pretty impressive when it's not your first language! They are possibly releasing another DVD later this year from the Wembley gig in December '03 which I was at. My favourite tracks on Absolution are Ruled by Secrecy, Sing for absolution (when I first heard it on cd I wasn't too fussed, but if you have seen it live, it is absolutely awesome), Falling away with you, Hysteria, B&H, to be honest the only track I don't love is Endlessly, sounds a bit flat on CD, although again live it is excellent. The old classics will always be special for me, my favourite track is Muscle Museum, I don't think any song will ever beat that for me, the power, the angst, incredible. I love Showbiz as much as Absolution, it's full of classics too. Origin is a great album, as you can probably tell I pretty much ove every single track they have ever made! Even their b-sides are amazing, Shrinking Universe, Fury and The Groove are my pick of the crop.

Have you seen them live? They had better come back and tour at home soon, I haven't seen them for 5 months and it's too long!!

Do the Stu, Muse's 3rd LP Absolution was released in the USA just a couple of weeks ago. The reason they haven't really hit the States much before is that they were going to release their second album Origin of Symmetry over there on Madonna's label (Maverick), but the record company said they wanted Muse to record a more 'radio friendly' version of some of their songs, to which they said no way, they weren't prepared to change songs just to please a record company. Hence it never happened. They supported the Chillis and the Foos in the USA back in the late 90's when they were mere youngsters, they're still only young guys now. They are the biggest selling British band bar The Darkness, and are headlining Glastonbury which is the biggest festival over here. Check them out, I wana see them on that Billboard :-) Also guitarist Matt Bellamy is highly regarded in music circles and by the music press, he has had feature articles in every major guitar magazine in this country.

Extra piece of trivia- they had to cancel a gig in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago after Matt split his lip on the headstock of his guitar! He is energetic to say the least, jumps around the stage like a maniac and I guess it backfired!

Graeme, yeah I agree that there are better riffs of his own, people always talk about PIB because it was one of their most commerical singles, it nearly broke top ten in the singles chart. Deadstar is awesome, it was a double a-side with 'In your world' which has a great tapping riff.

Muse are a great band and I am willing to admit that even though I am not very keen on their music.

Bellamy is an amazing guitarist and the way he carries himself on stage cannot be ignored, a great showman.

Oh heres a P.S

Does anyone here think AFI's guitarist is amazin.. not a virtuoso-but y'know AFI rock, and he has a few solo's and technical things going on,,, think "dancin through sunday" and the intro to "the leaving song part II".

Cheers again Aria

Yeah AFI are cool, another band I like are Elbow, and when you think of them you wouldn't really think about the guitar platying being anything special, but it's very inventive in terms of tunings/chord voicings and that sort of thing. Great live band, CD's don't do them justice.

Secret Prayer-whilst i remember - u sed sumfin about satch teaching kirk - cuz they sound unlike... have u tried listening to counting crows? theyr guitarist is a former pupil of the master himself-though the music is very unlike what you'd expect.

Bare in mind - The pupil is only guided down a path - it is up to pupil how they walk it. If i was to fall under the instruction of Joe, i think i'd find myself keeping my style of playin (classical/modern/instrumental) though using techniques + skills to develop my style further. lmao - i think if i was to try to impersonate joe id make 1 hell of a flop at it neway.

I am but a disciple.

Tasty - The ladies in the band do a great job of it also....

Novjul - There are loads of them in that book. It is sooo funny yet sooo true!!! Here is another one to tickle your fancy..."Assets:Your most important asset is you. Take care of your asset. Give your asset a comfortable office. Let your asset take long holidays. Award you asset a pay-rise. If anyone complains, tell them to kiss your asset"

Ovation - I think that anyone who enrols onto Clarki-Do Dojo and uses stomp boxes should enrol onto the semi-contact course or they could end up with nothing to stomp with!!! lol

Ariamac - I believe that is Love Thing......

TASTEY: No, DOT isn't good enough. DOT is for Dept. of Transportation and they will approve anything that has a minimum measurement of padding in it. The Snell Memorial Foundation actually has a very stringent test they put all helmets thru. To be Snell approved, a certain percentage of the helmets produced must be submitted to them throughout their production for testing. Any and all racing sanctions, from cars, boats, bikes, go carts at the top levels right down to the weekend figure 8 drivers must use a Snell approved helmet. The test is updated every 5 years, the current top rating is Snell 2000. Next year the top rating will be Snell 05. Also, helmets only have a shelf life of five to six years because of the nature of their construction. All helmets have a date of manufacture inside them somewhere, so don't get something that's been sitting in a warehouse for three years.

PhryDom: In Atlanta are they able to understand you with your accent? Probably not to bad in the city, but in the rural parts you could run into some communication problems lol. Sometimes down south, I have a hard time being understood and I think I sound like a hick lol. As far as the riff is concerned, the melody will come. She's just playing hard to get.

slanshroom: That sounds great man, I'm in no hurry. I can't do all of it at once anyway, I'm planning on taking a long time to do it. Thanks for the help.

Flagg: Yeah, Gary does sound a little like he's trying to be a VH guy, maybe that's why I don't like it and you do. I'd rather him have sounded like he did before where you didn't like him before. Makes sense. Wel,l as much sense as having Gary Charone be lead singer of VH can possibly be I guess lol.

death cube K: You mean you can't arrange a full endorsement deal for me? lol

michelle: Your response to Powerslave is the inspiration for today's quote of the day.

JS JS: No problem dude. I know what you mean, I want it all, and I want it now! lol.

Plum Loco: Did everything come out ok? lol

Austin: The funny comments stopped because you made fun of my dog's votes. You piss off the dog and he won't make the funny comments anymore lol.

Ariamac: There's a slightly humorous story about the riff to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Here's a quote from Cobain, "I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. It's such a cliched riff, it's so close to Boston's More Than A Feeling or Louie Louie. When I came up with guitar part, Krist Novoselic (bassist) looked at me and said, 'That's so ridiculous.' So I made the band play it for an hour and a half." At least he had some self awareness to his suckiness lol.

Clarky: Yes, definitely a big help, most appreciated. I'll be asking more question in the future if you don't mind. Thanks man. Oh, and you want me to make a list of 20 non shredders that really kick ass? Hmmm, that'll take a minute.

Ovation 1: "btw2.... Steve Howe.... The entire YES collection is filled with amazing chord progressions and phrasing that makes for some great study time!! ;-) " Yep, couldn't agree more. I'm really hoping to catch Yes and DT this summer.

mowlie2000: Sounds like an awesome book, loving the quotes your posting lol.

novjul: I don't have a definite date yet, but it's coming soon. I'll probably mention something about it when it happens lol. Actually, when it happens you won't be able to shut me up. We'll have quotes of the day saying stuff like, "The T2J Community CD Project 'Satchurated Feedback' is essential to the well being of all humans inhabiting this planet." Albert Einstein lol

The Real Quote of the Day: "What is all this nonsense about angels? Do you realize three out of four Americans now believe in angels?....What about goblins? Doesn't anybody believe in goblins? And zombies. Where the fuck are all the zombies? That's the trouble with zombies, they're unreliable. I say if you're gonna buy that angel bullshit, you may as well go for the goblin-zombie package as well." Carlin

20 Non Shredders that kick ass:

1 Jimmy Page

2 David Gilmour

3 Alex Lifeson

4 Angus Young

5 Billy Gibbons

6 Tom Petty

7 Brian May

8 Eric Clapton

9 Stevie Ray Vaughn

10 Ted Nugent

11 Pete Townsend

12 Ron Wood

13 Joe Walsh

14 Keith Richards

15 Dickey Betts

16 Brad Whitford

17 Duane Allman

18 Chuck Berry

19 Mark Knopfler

20 B.B. King

21 Tony Iommi

22 Neil Young

23 Larry Carlton

24 Robby Krieger

25 Don Felder

I know, it's 25, but I couldn't stop. These aren't in any order, just how they came in my head. Had a hard time not putting Beck and Hendrix on here, as they aren't really known for shredding, but I thought it best to leave them out.

TASTEY Snell isn't that much more money. You should be able to get an open faced snell approved helmet for less than $100. Probably more like $80. Good brand in that price range is HJC and they are very common, best selling helmet brand in the world I believe.
