Dear Joe (or anybody that would like to chance an answer),

Have you played in Australia, ever?

I'm one of those who claim to be your biggest fans and so (likes to think) would know if you had indeed played live here. I notice Nestle there complaining about having to travel 700 miles to catch one of your shows, and asking you to play in Salt Lake City. Nestle claims to be a long-time fan, in the US, who has never seen you in his home town. If Nestle's complaining about having to travel within the US to see you live, what chance to us Aussies have? I'm not justifying Nestle's gripe, but it brings one to reconsider whether holding one's breath waiting for you to visit Australia, is going to bear any fruit in the end. Joe - don't be like every other American muso that only decides to share their gift with those south of the equator way after he has grown ear hair long enough to plait past his neckline. We want to see you in your prime, too!

I've held you with such high esteem, Joe, since when I read about you and "Surfing..." - friends thought I was MAD to order it from overseas and pay $28 for Surfing - on tape mind you - when it was just released because it was classed a "rare import". I've bought all your albums - most multiple times because I love your music so much, if I play it to someone and they just have to have it too, I say "have mine so you can start listening to Joe right now!" and I go buy it again. Your music means so much to me I love to share it - it feels like I'm sharing a bigger part of me. You have literally been the theme music for my life.

But the signals I'm receiving is that you won't come out here to share your music with Australia, live.

If this is so, "Why?"

Simon Smith Newcastle, NSW Australia (you know where Oz is Joe, you've holidayed here - at least up Hamilton Island way that I know of)

Clarky, Monster Zero, and all others who are interested,

I posted my thesis on my web server so you can take a look at my incomprehensible ramblings if you so desire. The address is:

http://mail.rochester.edu/~jp010k/thesis/Prince2004_final.pdf

I'll try this fancy technique explained in the posting page to see if it works...

Jon's thesis

Let me know if it isn't working, but I tested the page and it should be fine. Again, the title is "Perception of Western musical harmony: Effects of perceptual stability and experience." Thanks for your interest!

MIKE B - A tip from married man to married man. The D. Krall is good to have in the "Mood" stack.

As far as listening to other genres of guitar players, of course! That is what moves you forward. and not only guitarists but other instruments as well. Sax playesr are great for long legato lines. Charlie Parker, Kenny G aaagghh just kidding!!! Piano players are good for learning new voicings and new ways to get from one chord to another.

JS_JS - the first thing you have to do to be able drive at 18 is make to 18!!! The roads on the Olympic aren't the straightest. Take it easy.

Stop this madness prez, in this case the music is sorta chinese whisper thru generation and musicians so the parcel is till being passed, dont make me read thru 13pgs of posts again plz. they put in their time and effort to play music. it either sounds good to your ears or it doesnt but 4 surely thers an audience for even the most obscure band or musician.
juju - best wishes and prayers to your grandpa. send him a card and call my grandfather passed away last year. he had a letter Mahatma Gandhi wrote to him, he graciously refused my grandfather to join his ashram cuz of differences. my grandpa grew to admire him later. Eva, all but 2 songs on the set list you posted are KILLER! They could leave out Frantic and St. Anger, but I guess they have to play something from that cd. It will kick ass either way. I'm just grateful their not playing ALL St. Anger songs! *Thank ya Jesus!* I'm REALLY looking foreward to seeing Godsmack again. They kick an incredible amount of ass!! I haven't seen Metallica since '98 - the ReLoad Tour - or as it was called - the ReWah Tour. lol! P.S. - "962 umm, so... scrote = fucky-fucky?" I laughed for about 5 minutes straight this afternoon when I read that. Your too funny! lol!

I watched the VH1 Metal Moments thing again tonight. Best part - SKID ROW! lol! They showed Sebastian doing the most bad-ass vocals ever recorded! Those first 2 albums were killer!

THE MOON is absolutely fantastic tonight. All of you should poke your head outside tonight and take a look. It's amazing! I came home from work tonight and sat outside for about 10 minutes just taking it in, saying prayers, and giving thanks. Moments like that are what it's all about.

civgeek, love the greatest hits from Sly and the Family Stone. I remember catching them on t.v. a few times when I was a kid. They were some far out cats back in the day! lol! They are part of my "life soundtrack" if you will.

SPS, Joe says traveling to Australia is very, very expensive.

CIVGEEK--sounds like you have the bases covered. The RG's are nice. I mostly run my 112 bandit, but when I need to remove the wildlife from the area I use a Peavey supreme 160 on a Crate 1/2.(its F^@(#&^@$ loud)! The axe line is JS4 rainbow (obviously), PRS standard 22, Ibanez ex365 (rodded with a screamin demon, noise-maker) a Peavey "acoustic" (electric), Dauphin classical and a peavey bass. That reminds me, I should go make some noise.

962--I heard him growing up, parents old cream, etc., radio, all the hits troughout the years and I still get that "classic rock" shoved down my gullet. I see him as singer/songwriter stuff with the guitar NOT in the fore front. and when it is suitar it's the same couple notes over and over. Plus it sounds like he plays out of key?? Live Coccain is the worst solo I have ever heard in my life. And everyone bows down, I don't get it. If I'm missing something I would be happy to give it a whurl.

Hey Joe,

What are the chances of an Oz tour. We're in Perth and usually miss the big names, my partner (Damian) and I are not missin Steve Vai next month, seen Tommy & Phil Emmanuel a couple of months ago. Damian is a huge fan, he nearly fell over when I told him I was on your site and you had more CD's out not the 9 or so he thought. I wrote them all down for him. The Record store he went to claimed you hadnt brought any new Cd's out since ... wait for it....2000, not accounting for some people huh? I'll be contacting my nearest Sony shop to order what he doesnt have for him. It is through Damian that I have the appreciation of your style with a guitar. You're magical.

Cheers Sandra

Just picked up Is There Love In Space today, I've only had time to listen to it once through so far but my favorite track at this point would have to be Searching, that one was blowing me away on the first listen. THANKS JOE!!!(once again!)

"This is amazing!" exclaims the Doctor. "What do you want me to do?" Well fur gadness sake teyhk it out, man!" shrieks the patient. The doctor pulls out the tenner and another twenty appears, and another and another and another, etc.... Finally the last note comes out and no more appear "Ah Dactor, tank ya koindly, dat"s moch batter, how moch is dare den?" The Doctor counts the pile of cash. "$1,990 exactly." Ah, dat'd be roit, says the Irishman

962 - Hi thanks for the input. Unless i am going for a clean rhythm then basically my lead and rhythm tones are the same only the lead needs to be louder for obvious reasons.

Last night i put it before the input to my amp and it seems to have the desired affect although i didnt try the wah pedal which im hoping it wont affect. I noe have guitar -> wah -> compressor -> noise suppressor -> Ds-1 (jap) -> Ds-1 (keeley) ->EQ ->Marshall then in the loop I have Chorus -> flanger -> delay. I mainly use either the amps overdrive or the DS-1 for my whole playing adding the delay for lead.

MooGz Sorry I got your name wrong before! This makes a lot more sense lol. I love Tolkien, he's a great inspiration. When I was a kid I was determined to write a lexicon about Middle-Earth with all the names and words of everything. I was just a little bit disappointed when I found out there already were like a thousand of them lol... The films are much better than one could expect, but the first part really stands out to me, it's special. I'm gonna see the latest HP-movie on Wednesday next week, hoping it's better than #2. Here too the first movie was the best so far. Discworld has been animated before, I don't know if it's possible to transfer it to a real movie. I think the characters and the world in itself looks better as cartoons.

michelle I'm glad you liked the review. It didn't say anything about Godsmack, maybe they only play in the US-shows? I'm so pumped about G3, it will be a blast! :)

Frenchy Nice jokes, keep 'em coming! :)

Here's a pool story for y'all:

While attending a billiard tourney on the evening of April 24, 1906, Mr. Twain was called on to speak. He told this story: "The game of billiards has destroyed my naturally sweet disposition. Once, when I was an underpaid reporter in Virginia City, whenever I wished to play billiards I went out to look for an easy mark. One day a stranger came to town and opened a billiard parlor. I looked him over casually. When he proposed a game, I answered, "All right." "Just knock the balls around a little so that I can get your gait," he said; and when I had done so, he remarked: "I will be perfectly fair with you. I'll play you left-handed." I felt hurt, for he was cross-eyed, freckled, and had red hair, and I determined to teach him a lesson. He won first shot, ran out, took my half-dollar, and all I got was the opportunity to chalk my cue. "If you can play like that with your left hand," I said, "I'd like to see you play with your right." "I can't," he said. "I'm left-handed."

hey all.... things havent been so good here... my grampa didnt do so well yesterday... because the f*kin doctors wouldnt let him eat for TWO days and made him drink the chalkey crap for the last 24 hours he of course was weak and dehydrated... kidney functions dropped and dialysis was needed... and now he will be in hospital until at least early next week to see if his body is strong enough to continue on with the planned surgery... ugh, sometimes i really wish i was closer... thinking about heading out that way for a couple of days... but first, i just got a phone call from a good friend who is stranded in grand junction (3.5 hours straight west from denver on the colorado/utah border) so now i have been summoned to go pick him up.... my question if you have been stranded for 17 hours already couldnt you have waited until 530 or so to call instead of 403??????

anyway, hope all in satchland have a good day....
