A little side trip into sur-reality:
In Joe's studio/live album, "Time Machine," he has a tune called "I Am Become Death." I knew I'd heard that somewhere, and after a little research (and some help from the omni-potent Google), I found what I'd sought.
When the Manhattan Project was completed, and the first nuclear test was carried out, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the director of the project, upon seeing the devastating power of the atomic bomb, said:
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that one way or another."
Also, on Joe's biggest early album, "Surfing With The Alien," Ice 9 is a direct reference to the book "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut. In it, Ice 9 is a kind of super-ice that turns all water it comes in contact with to a non-melting ice, literally freezing the world.
Hordes of Locusts from “Not Of This Earth” is a Biblical plague used as a weapon by God to smite the people of ancient Egypt. Speed of Light from “Time Machine,” Crystal Planet from “Crystal Planet,” and GNAAHH from “Is There Love In Space?” are all about physical phenomena, light, atoms/molecules, and light again, respectively.
Weird, huh?

civgeek - lmao! A dual carriageway is where you have two lanes on either side of a central reservation. Similar to a motorway, but they have three lanes either side (or sometimes four). An a class road is just a normal road where you're allowed to drive really fast. If you're driving on a long journey you'll normally get A class roads out of the town, and they'll either turn into dual carriageways or there'll be a junction to join one. Then the dual carriageways take you to the motorways. Thus endeth your lesson in English transportation... lol.

Hi all, hi Joe. Been busy. Band nights all weekend. After the Sunday night one, I played a CD over the system with the Trogdor song on it. About half of the people there turned around and smiled or laughed knowingly. Ha ha ha.
Gotta run, my band has a rehearsal soon.
I'd appreciate it if Joe comes to Australia...

mikey - yup.. the tournament was huge... all weekend too... I've been to many of them.. not one this big though...
zen - ha.. you're right... DT are not Yes.. and Yes really do it for me... I love 'em... especially around '72 to '75..
for me, Yessongs is one of the greatest albums ever...
noppa - in the UK, kids start playing for teams as young as 6 [under 7's].. they play in a league in the winter and tournaments in the summer.. but at this young age it is all 'non-competitive'.. so there is no league title to be won.. and the team that wins the tournament is judged to have been the one that played most fairly and with the best awareness of the game [like no back passes to the keeper etc].. so they score points for a goal, win, draw, etc.. have points deducted for fouls, back pass, etc... and every kid that takes part gets a medal or trophey... once you get to under 9's football all that stops.. they play 'small sided' football [7 a-side league, 6 a-side tournament] according to local league rules.. once they get to under 11's they play full FA rules 11 a-side on a full sized pitch with full sized goals.. the only difference is that they only play 20 minutes each way.. as they get older they gradually build into the full 45 minutes each way...
in and around the towns and villages where I live football is like some kind of plague.. everyone has the bug..lol..
michelle - ha... explain what I'm thinking... it'd be interesting to see if anyone is messed up enough to understand me.. lmao...

Master Yoda - "I was actually tempted to say "I popped the hood" to make it more universally decipherable, but I have no idea what you call a layby!!!"
Seriously? LOL... I was originally going to respond with "You mean you popped the hood and _____." but then I realized I didn't know exactly what you meant by layby either (even though I understood what you were trying to say, if that makes any sense). ;-)
I didn't know if you meant the shoulder (side) of the road, a turn-out, the next exit off the freeway, or...?
civgeek - "When ever I here the word bonnet I have a picture of Laura from Little House on the Prairie pop into my head."
Ah, so you were thinking of popping her...? ;-) Haha, sorry, but that was just too easy!
michelle - "Any suggestions for EASY songs to learn for a newbie drummer?"
Moby Dick! ;-)
What kind of music does she like? Name a few bands and I can give you some suggestions... There are a few Satch songs that have fairly easy drum parts, but I'm sure you know that... Aerosmith have some fairly simple drum parts, too...I can recommend some of their songs if she's a fan...
Also, those Homer lights were very cool. Thanks for that link...
ovation1 - "....Quick skim.... ;-)"
See? There is no escaping T2J. You're here FOREVER...

2297 - Sounds good I'll see what can do. I'm done with finals on Thursday afternoon, so i'll be able to think outside equations then.
MASTER YODA - I am once again going to sound like a total geek. All that info was very interesting. I'm a transportation engineering major and all that stuff you wrote was spot on for me. I've been looking at the diferent way you Brits do things because your weather is very similar to ours and so the treatment of the roads need to be similar. Anyway, have you driven any road where the center markers light up at night ? Part of one of my research projects.
DO THE STU - Any male 35-40 who says he didn't think of popping one of th Engles' daughters is lying,
DELPHINO - Good luck on getting through exams. My last is Thursday, and then no more physics. Oh Yeah!
When I was playing more we would finish a gig, break down, drive all night, set up and do sound check threee four in the afetrnoon, then go have dinner and relax before going on. I think that would be fairly close to a universal schedual. Not much room for variance.
1776 - I have kids and I have no idea.

tetovo ~ _Reel Satriani_ is an inside peek at the making of JS95 aka The Red Album ~ you see Joe working with Nathan Lane, Maue Katche, Andy Fairweather Low, and producer Glyn Johns ~ numerous takes of “Luminous Flesh Giants” ~ hear about the first records ever purchased by each of the band ~ the birth of the song “If” ~ a fascinating peek inside the studio process -- the creative process -- it’s interesting, instructive, and it’s JOE in his element ~ I enjoyed it immensely, but then again, I’m just plain old hardcore ~ can't help it!
cheers, everyone! [[..*smiles*..]]

CiviGeek, Definitely go to see Joe Bonamassa.. He has been sharing the stage with the likes of BB King, Albert Collins and Danny Gatton since he was 10 years old!!! He is a phenom and his latest outing Blues Deluxe, is smokin.
In the '90ies, at about 16, Joe played in a great band called "Bloodline" with the sons of Miles Davis, Robbie Krieger, and Barry Oakley! It is a great "rock blues" album check it out!!!

Just purchased the new Velvet Revolver CD - after first listen - not too bad.
You can tell the STP and GNR influences in the band - basically very updated sound of both of the bands.
It comes in 3 different covers (black, red, white) - Motley Crue tried that once (red and yellow).
Maybe later today I will pick up the new Stephen King book - part 6 of 7 of the Dark Tower series.

MIKESB - Thanks for the extra input. I love the blues.
TO ALL - If your into the blues there is a station here in Portland, Oregon that has a great blues show. They stream it on line. Look up KMHD from 4pm -2am on Fridays Pacifictime. THe 4-6 slot is my favorite. More electric blues. the next slot is more acoustic, delta styles, after that I don't know I'm usually asleep.
AUSTIN - How goes the wah search ?

Name that Tune ~ It's one of my rip-yer-heart-out favs.
You and I together in our lives/
Sacred ties would never fray/
Then why can I let myself tell lies/
And watch you die every day
I think back to the times/
When dreams were what mattered/
Tough talking youth naivete
You said you never let me down/
But the horse stampedes and rages/
In the name of desperation
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you look at yourself/
When you think of what/
You left behind
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you live with yourself/
When you think of what/
You left behind
Paranoid delusions they haunt you/
Where my friend I used to know/
He all alone/
He buried deep within a carcass/
Searching for a soul
Can you feel me inside your heart/
As it bleeding/
Why can you belive you/
can be loved
I hear you scream in agony/
And the horse stampedes and rages/
In the name of desperation
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you look at yourself/
When you think of what
You left behind
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you live with yourself/
When you think of what
You left behind
You said you never let me down/
But the horse stampedes and rages/
In the name of desperation
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you look at yourself/
When you think of what
You left behind
Is it all just wasted time/
Can you live with yourself/
When you think of what
You left behind
The sun will rise again/
The earth will turn to sand/
Creation colors seem to fade to grey/
And youl see the sickly hands of time/
Will write your final rhyme/
And end a memory
I never thought you let it get
this far, boy
