Climber, "I'v played that but, we never slamed into a glass door! LOL" I guess that means you were running in the right direction! lol! I've already fell UP the steps, but never ran into a glass door during the chase. lol!

Mikey, is this proof that animals commit suicide too? Birds flying into windows, dogs running into the street, squirrels on power lines. Maybe instead of acid rain we should have Prozac rain? lol!

Austin, I knew you would know the song, but are we the only ones? That's still one of the best cd's I've ever bought. Joe Blob ~ LMAO!!! She gives a good wha??? LOL!!

tim505, I tried to listen to your parody, but everyone here is sleeping. I'll give it a listen tomorrow.

Alexandre, Luminous Flesh Giants - one of my favorite Satch tunes!! Very cool!

SupaaDave, glad it was just a towel rack! lol!

Julie, LOL at your dogs altercation with the dresser. Nothing like the sound of skull on wood to end a good game of chase. lol! Hope she's o.k.

Bil, that's some scary stuff man! Glad things are o.k. at your house. I've never experienced 170 MPH winds, and I hope I never have to. Hell, I batten down the hatches with 20 MPH winds! lol!

Austin, 3.42! Cool beans baby!

Jazzy, "- I still like metallica even though its fun to bitch about them. Load and ReLoad were good albums. I enjoyed them quiet a bit. Garage Days was kick ass man! S&M was a weak attempt. The orchestra did not blend in well, I think. I am sure it must have been cool to watch that show live. I still love metallica.

St.Anger sucks. Some kind of Bullshit is an attempt to sell more records maybe, who knows?" I couldn't agree more :)

Stace, I keep catching the last part of the metal show (twice today). AIC at the waterpark is hysterical!! I didn't see Joe yet. It's on at 10:00 p.m. est every night this week. I can't wait to see it again. I love it!

************************************************************************

JOE - at least you have the power to spread the TRUTH through email and here on your site. The press can be your best friend, or your worst enemy. That guy was an ass. You should include his name and how you were misquoted by him in your next interview!!

Love ya Joe!

Delfino Pie: Dude, I'm extremely flattered you dig my playing. Thanks for saying that. A lot of different things went in to how I sound. I spent ten years playing air guitar religiously for hours on end at first lol. Then I bought a guitar, fiddled with it a few weeks and then a friend showed me the riff to Smoke On The Water and the rest is history. I played for a little over five years before I bought a tuner and learned how a guitar was supposed to sound. I never had patience to learn how to play anyone else's songs, so I just made up my own stuff. To this day, I only know four or five songs, and none of them complete, just the main riffs. I never play with any other musicians, haven't since my Smoke On The Water lesson, so I can say all my sounds are from what I've heard and from the mistakes I've made. The only time I "practice" is when I'm learning a scale, and then I only play that scale for however long it entertains me. Could be a day or two, or a few months. I got stuck in a Phrygian mode last year that lasted several months. Anyway, I have a wide variety of influences, ranging from the more prevalent guitarists (Satch, Vai, SRV, EVH, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson) along with some other non-guitar music like Classical, Romantic and Baroque, Folk, R&B, Techno, Industrial, Bluegrass and Reggae. So I've taken all of these influences, and picked out what I like about them, and what I feel I can duplicate with my abilities and applied them to my compositions and techniques. And speaking of technique, I have literally stumbled across everything I've learnt about playing. I used to play with the lights off, just to purposely make interesting mistakes. I find pick attack rhythms in the strangest of places (valve noise of an engine, dripping water, sound of something falling down the steps) and just go for it. I know less than ten chords, and generally use only two or three of them. I pretty much do everything wrong, paint myself into corners, and let it fly. I'll do some strange chord progressions that are based on two string chords, using the non-root note of one chord to become the root note of the next, or keeping the non-root note aa the non-root note of the next chord with a different root or what not. I'm sure there's a name for that, but I don't know what it is. Some of the chords I play I made up (not really, I'm sure every fingering position possible has been done, but I don't have a chord book to show me these things so as far as I'm concerned I made it up lol). I pretty much do everything you aren't supposed to do. They say perfect practice makes perfect, and I believe that. But for every hour that I practice perfectly, I'll spend ten minutes playing recklessly, with no rules. I find I make wonderful discoveries that way. I mess around a lot, I know what a Les Paul with Super Slinky's tuned down to B sounds like (spongy and loose lol). The point I'm trying to make is that I learned everything by experimentation of my own ideas, what I saw on some concert DVDs and what I've learned on this very bulletin board. The only advice I can give you is don't be afraid to suck! Don't worry if you can't pull of a certain technique, even after weeks or even months of trying. Don't expect to make vast improvement in small amounts of time. Set modest goals for yourself, work toward achieving them, and as you get closer, set more goals. Learn as much as you can about your guitar. Know every note on it and how they relate to the ideas in your head, because that's the hardest thing, to apply the music in your head to the sound coming out of your amp. Also, never forget, sometimes the wrong note is the right note. I hope you understand my rambling, as I've went on far longer than even I expected, lol.

I think I'll go ahead and post this now, or there will be little room for much else in this one. I promise not to go on like this about everything I want to talk about lol.

Ovation: "I'm beginning to wonder if he doesnt work for those venues, lol!! ;-)" I didn't tell you I was working for Clear Channel now? lol, just kidding, I wouldn't work for those Orwellian zombies for any amount of money. Well, maybe not any amount, but it would take a whole lot. Not an astronomical amount, I guess. OK, I'd work for them for minimum wage plus free concert tickets. I have no shame lol.

The Prez: I'll do my best to remember that, should be able to but ya never know with me lol.

Plum Loco: lol, the less smelly garbage bag will smell quite nice once it gets to you with the shipping time, so don't worry, you'll have plenty of that lol.

Jazzy Boy: Yeah, I see your point on the ticket sales. It doesn't really apply to me though, because Joe never comes within five hundred miles of me, so there ya go lol. One of these days I'm gonna fly out to Reno or something to check out a show. Oh, and congrats on the graduation man!

death cube K: Absolutely bold letters lol. For an extra ten I'll even remember to make it death cube with a capital K!

michelle: See!!! Fresh ingredients are a must for a great PB&J sandwich. I've gotten lazy in my old age and now use the squeeze bottle jellies exclusively lol.

Zenfish: Loved your post on EVH and the swinghard. I'm really starting to like that word as a description for him. The thing about Eddie that I really love is that he can sound heavy to cater to me power hungry adrenaline tendacies and at the exact same time, make it sound happy and optimistic. I'm all about dark and ominous aggression, don't get me wrong, but not all the time. He can make the guitar portray a much wider range of emotions with his rhythms and still make it sound aggressive. Aggressively happy? Why not? lol

Noppa: I've heard some of clips of the Atomic Punks, but have never had an opportunity to see them, but if I get a chance, I'll be sure to check them out.

Summoner: Fuel cheaper than water? There's something very wrong with that. lol, on the needs sugar comment. Good to see you again. As far as checking out Van Halen, no better way than to start at the beginning. The self titled debut album is the best way to go.

Well, I'm caught up to where I posted earlier today, so I'm gonna take a break for a minute

Hi everyone!

Summoner: petrol is cheaper than water in the UAE? Wow. It's cheaper than milk here, but I never thought any consumer product could be cheaper than water!

Joe: I thought as much. I suppose you can count yourself fortunate that because you aren't as famous as a lot of pop artists that this kind of thing (public slander / misquoting etc) doesn't happen as often.

Michelle: you have no headphones in your house?

The best part about the parodies is that the playing sounds like the artists. I love the jams how it's three shreds all over the top of each other. Brilliant.

AWMAWY is a metal moment?!?

Tastey: Get a crucifix. The only way to negate a tick is with a cross.

I bought the G3 DVD on Saturday!!! I watched parts of it in the shop. Joe sounds better than he ever has before! I'm keeping it away until next Friday when the holidays start in order to avoid temptation.

Master Yoda: Free stings = endorsement?

Austin: The tornadoes were pretty close. The most severe, an F3 was about five miles away from my house. There were three or four F2s, one of which was right here on top of me, which was really cool! I love storms. The rest were F1s and they were scattered all around my area. I think there were fifteen or twenty over the weekend all within thirty minutes or so of me. Anyway, I've always loved watching storms, and with my dog at my side I don't worry about it. If he starts to cry, I know it's time to go to the basement. He got a little skittish when the sound of hail hitting the roof of the porch was overcome by what sounded like a freight train coming down the street so we went to the basement to join Miranda where I received a very thorough ass chewing lol.

mowlie2000: Thanks man, it was something I won't soon forget, that much is certain.

Delfino Pie: lol, no self inflicted injuries here I'm happy to report.

Ovation: Thanks, it wasn't as bad to clean up as I thought, I was pretty lucky. I have two 150 year old oaks in my front yard that held up extremely well. My patio table was in my neighbors yard a few houses down from me, and my privacy fence took a beating, loosing about an eight foot section, but nothing too serious. Lots of branches down, mostly small though. Brick homes kick ass! I'm glad I have one. Spent most of the day helping my elderly neighbors. Maybe they'll think twice about calling the cops on me next time I get drunk and decide to crank up the Peavey at four am lol. What am I talking about? I won't have to worry about cops, I'll be in the morgue cause Miranda will kill me lol.

Joe: Nice to see ya posting again, and I'm really glad your digging the T2J CD. Give us a mini review sometime if you can. We all review your albums, now's your chance to get back at us for it lol

The Prez: I agree with some of the things you said about Hendrix, but I'm glad he was who he was. A lot of my favorite musicians name him as one of their favorites. He also wrote some songs that to me are essential rock and roll, like Hey Joe and Voodoo Chile. On St. Anger, I have developed the following, self admitted narrow minded opinion: They did it to see what they can get away with. I think they were sitting around talking about how big they are (which they are) and how mindless a large portion of the CD buying public is (which it is) and said something like, "Let's put out the biggest piece of shit we can, with the worst production ever. Hype the hell out of and see how quickly it goes platinum." Hell, it was probably a bet between James and Lars.

michelle: You would have hated to be here this weekend then. Miranda was doing pretty good until the local news guys started freaking out. They weren't really freaking, they live for that stuff, they were excited and talking very fast like they were doing a play by play of a kick ass basketball game, practically foaming at the mouth. Then suddenly, the transmission stopped for a few minutes, but only that one station. They came back on a few minutes later saying their transmission tower got the shit kicked out of it. She went to the basement then lol.

This is an announcement from the Emergency Center of the Internet Weather Service. Current conditions are considered exceptionally probable to aid in the development of a severe shitstorm. For information regarding the best way to prepare and/or prevent for this event, click here. Thank you for your cooperation. This is not a test.

JOE: Thanks alot for the official reply on Ron Thal... this is a good lesson for us to always stay critical/aware towards the press and what they quote people as saying. This story has made bad pubilicity for the journal. We are talking about it in a french guitar forum and making sure everyone knows what you really meant - and that nobody buys that magazine again! :)

(Part I of II)

boris karloff - Hi...welcome to the site.

Joe didn't do Somewhere Over The Rainbow...sorry.

Ree - Joe has said recently that Marshall were uncooperative with him when he would try to get his amps fixed on the road. It wouldn't surprise me if they also weren't crazy about producing a JS amp.
Brother al - "well i jus know mesa's are hella expensive"

Ugh... How did "hella" make its way from Northern California to Ireland? ;-) I hate that stupid word...EVERYONE uses it up here.

The Prez - "if tried to do instruentals, he would of never been mainstreem and no one would give a hoot about him."

You can't judge how good people are based on how many people have heard their music. By that logic, Britney Spears is better than Satch.

Jimi Hendrix wasn't good because he was mainstream. Jimi Hendrix was good because he was good.

"If he were still alive and had 40 albums behind him (30 of which would have sucked beyond imagination - you can bet on it) he would have been an also-ran"

You can't make that argument. How do you know his music would have sucked? You can't predict what someone's future will be based on a few of their early albums. To use one of your examples, thirty years ago who would have guessed that, after rocking out with the Yardbirds, the Bluesbreakers, and Cream, Clapton would eventually "go pop"...? It's impossible to predict something like that...especially when you realize Clapton left the Yardbirds because he thought they were becoming too pop-oriented.

Why can you make a similar prediction about Hendrix's career?

"I wish that I was omnipotent so I can swap Eric and Jimi and have Eric die in 1970 right after he broke up Cream - talk about a true star."

Don't you think Clapton has done at least something in the past 30 years that's worth keeping him alive? I love his early work more than his recent stuff, too, but man... He's had a few VERY cool things in recent years. Tears In Heaven is absolutely beautiful.

"Nirvana was a good band when Cobain was alive than he dies and all of a sudden they were one of the greatest bands of all time."

I agree. It's laughable to compare Cobain with Hendrix, though. Hendrix played and sang much better than Cobain.

Stu Clone - "what kind of power do you have to prevent/rectify these sorts of things"

As I'm a journalism major, I was going to type a fairly in-depth explanation about this whole thing... I think Joe's "no power...it sucks!" sums everything up nicely (hehe), but I'll still say a few things...

Joe can't do much. If he could prove that he was misquoted (if he taped the interview himself, for example), he could file a lawsuit against the journalist. That'd take a lot of time and money, though, so it wouldn't be worth it in the end. If Joe were seriously misquoted (reported as saying "Ron Thal sucks!" in a story picked up by the AP and run on the front page of every newspaper in the country, for example), it would probably be worth Joe's time to take legal action...

From what I've heard on T2J (from Joe and other T2Jers), it sounds like Joe probably said something along the lines of "Ron Thal is a cool player, even though I don't really like his _____." It looks like the journalist here chose to print the last half of the comment, bending Joe's words, misrepresenting him, and distorting the truth in the process. Stuff like that SUCKS... Guys like that make everyone hate journalists...

Ugh... ;-)

Jazzy Boy - Ozzy and Dweezil have covered Purple Haze? I'd love to hear that... Is it officially available?

trutina - I like storms, too... I don't get many of them out here in California, though. ;-) I remember being in some record-breaking (at the time) blizzards when I lived in Connecticut about ten years ago. I love snow...

I've never been in a tornado, but I've been pretty close to a few... Most of my relatives live in the St. Louis area...I've seen a few there while visiting them over the years.

S4TCH BOOGIE - The T2J CD should be available fairly soon...probably within a few weeks...?

hello joe. I'm Drew. You have a fairly big fanbase in my school because i have the cd of the G3 Rocking in the free world. Me and my friends are always having discussions (and once a mess fight!) about who's the best of you mr vai and yngwie. I usually stick up for steve but my friend's like your desciple. you're really incredibly super duper cool. I play guitar and one day i thought "hmm... i can play everything by page and hendrix and may and slash, so i must be really good." and then one day by accident i bought the rocking in the free world g3 cd (purely because it said Joe Satriani on it, i'd never heard of you but i liked your name and i was st0ned.) and i listened to it, had an orgasm while listening to every track and now i just think you're the best. well done.
