I just got an email from ticketmaster saying that Satriani tickets are going on sale for a January show at the Grove in Anaheim California. The presale for these tickets is supposedly today. This show is not even listed on this site - anyone have a clue as to how you are supposed to get the presale tickets? Thanks.

In Feburary 2004's edition of Guitar Player John Mayer says

Quote: To be a guitar player's guitar player! That' red-hot madness only exists on the cultural periphery. And I felt I wanted to explore the aspect about playing music that made people say 'thank you.' rather than play music that make people ask more questions. The thing is, I understand the G3 tour, and I respect Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. But I hate that thier trade is so exposed. The language and technique is open to everyone, it's all exposed guts and wires "Hey ask me about my favorite chord or scale! Come look at how I play these riffs!" I think a sign that you've really got it going on as a player is when all that language starts to dissapear and everything becomes reaction and reflex.

I think he missed the point. He also raves about SRV, Joe Perry, and EVH. How are they different or better in his mind that Vai? The fact that there heard on the radio? It that what it takes for Mayer to hear something, if it's popular or not? I think he missed what Vai is really about. He didn't say it staright out, but it seems to him Vai has no emotion, but he has plenty of it. It's one thing to say Yngwie plays to show off how fast he can play at times, but Vai is different. How is using different scales different from SRV or EVH. I wanna know how EVH is different from Vai, because it ticked me off when he talks so high on EVH and not Vai. Is it cool to bash virtuosity or something? I'm sorry Steve Vai is way over your head Mayer.

LOL ok I misheard Yngwie and it was the stupidest thing I thought he said.

When Joe is saying like "Yngwie Malmsteen on the electric guitar....Steve Vai on the electric guitar" and then Yngwie says something along the lines of "Joe Satriani...the man" because of his accent I thought he said "Joe Satriani...dumbass"...

Anywayz its a great dvd and an excellent show I cannot wait till G3-04

Hey T2J, I'd like to thank all of you for checking out my brother's site. He thanks all of you as well :o)

Now on a different note, I'm thinking of buying a new guitar, & I've narrowed my choices down to a Peavey Wolfgang or an Ernie Ball Axis. Any thoughts or opions (especially if you own one of these) would be greatly appreciated

thanks,

SLANSHROOM - Nice tune. I like the bending into the right note from 1/2 below and all the different tones. Listened to allmthe tunes, especially like 'Feels Like Home.'

JAZZY BOY - Classical music has always been its own thing. As today the general population doesn't listen to it. Popular music now I would equate to folk music then. Just my personal thoughts.

DRAGONCHILD - TYPO, TYPO,TYPO!!! I was curious how far you were from Malmö. There is an interesting building going up there that I have bee following. It's called Turning Torso and designed by a very interesting architect that BROTHER AL knows of (his work, the James Joyce Bridge in Dublin) named Calatrava. Anyway, beautiful building.

JOEMAN9 - Lots of jazz standards.' A 'train, Someone to watch over me, stuff like that. A good resource would be your grandparents. I got some good ides from mine. Basically songs that were popular post-depression . I'll get some titles for you if your interested, but it will be a couple days, finals next week.

DELFINOPIE - That was a horrible story. Best of luck with that man. Headphones??

PREZ - John Mayer... John friggin' Mayer!!! Holy shit, I hate that guy!!! Yea, he doesn't get because he sucks. What the hell does he know about playing the guitar? AAGGHH, I need a drink already and its only 7:15 am. Well at least I'm fired up and ready for the day.

TASTEY - I had forgottin' someone metioned Winger. I always liked Reb Beech and actually still listen when I'm feeling nostalgic.

And Reb Beach and Andy Timmons are great friends!!! Any friend of Andy's is a friend of mine coz Andy is pure class as a human being and an even better guitar player.

Reb is being woefully underused in the latest concoction of Whitesnake, Doug Aldrich is handling most of the solos!!! I know Doug is a great player but I would hate to see Reb end up like Viv Campbell, only in it for the money and underutilized!!

/\/\/\R|<: Wow bro, that sounds like an awesome dvd!!.... Jimi and Jeff on the same one!!!!.... Let me know how it is, and man, you one badass playa yourself!! :-)

Jazzy Boy: The Forgotten Part2 is amazing isnt it!!.... Bells Of Lal Part2 is also amazing.... I call it JOE on 10+, lol!! EOC is also amazing.... CRATS is most heavenly!!

Phydeaux_3: haha, sounds like you had a great day, and lol on the beer and steaks!!.... A card from the daughter is always awesome, Happy B-Day again :-)

Zenfish: You can listen to a clip of Dog With Crown And Earring here.... It's a bonus track (song #13), and I agree on the building.... JOE is building the neohendrix and neogibbons lol.... On Dr VAI.... yes, he is very cerebral and I wonder if you've heard Alive In An Ultra World??.... Amazing stuff, and to write and play with an orchestra.... You have to be spot on, although I do agree about the blues.... Check the G3 Jams.... JOE buries everyone!!.... Eric Johnson gave him a good duel back in '96!!.... Eric is amazing!!.... btw, good luck on getting in on that Jazz Festival!!....

alexandrecaetano: Hope you can get the Madrid ticket situation worked out my friend, and ROCK IN RIO!!!! :-) Great stuff, sounds like a great show!!.... Enjoy your weekend and happy 400!! :-)

The Prez: He was also bashing JOE, and the funny thing is, that is coming from John Mayer!!.... As much as I respect the man, something like that coming from him is ridiculous.... I think a sign that you've really got it going on as a player is when all that language starts to dissapear and everything becomes reaction and reflex..... That is a ridiculous statement.... Reaction and Reflex is improv (IMO), and when JOE' and STEVE language starts to dissapear, I'm going to start worrying, lol!!.... John is not a fan of Instrumental, and that's ok.... JOE' and Steve's music speaks volumes more to me than John's music with words will ever begin to.... Thank God (and JOE, lol) for G3!! :-)

....Later peeps, I got to eat some of honey's blueberry muffins that she made, and I pass one to you all.... ;-)

Where's Do The Stu??????

Zenfish, I dug out the old video " Does Humor Belong in Music" by Uncle Frank ( i always called him Uncle Frank, do not know why). It was a great video, Frank using a Strat and Floyd Rose and as usual having a great time with a crackerjack backup band as usual, Chad Wackerman, Scott Thunes, Alain Zavod, Ike Willis etc etc. I expect we will see more and more video/dvd Frank released over the next decade by "the family".

Maybe some with Steve!!

I miss Frank!!

MIKESB - Thanks for the info. I had no idea that Reb was playing w/ Whitesnake. I saw Whitesnake back when Vai played with them and Coverdale had all his screams prerecorded it was kinda lame. But a good show none the less.

Cube, where you from on the east coast? I've had the pleasure of living in NB and NS but the greater pleasure of working in all four maritime provinces. Great people.

If you have the whole Isle of Wight concert, Paul Kossof (Free) and Rory Gallagher (in his "Taste" days) are also worth checkin out!!

Those here who have never checked out Rory Gallagher, check out Calling Card '76, and Stagestruck '80 for some of the fiercest Strat tone and pinched harmonics you will ever hear!!!

The water sucketh now in most of Ontario, I used to be big time into fishing but damn hard to find good fishing without a plane!!

Zenfish: Amen bro, Blues and Hardrock have evolved much more than Jazz has in the last 20 years.... Fusion (to me) is a much more dynamic Jazz, and it is still kind of underground, but there are amazing players there.... Gambale, Howe, Garsed, Kotzen, and the list goes on and on.... However, blues and rock have made incredible leaps in the last 20 years!!.... It's all a matter of time and technology along with technique that has helped the genre move into new territories.... btw, long live Django, and Mike Stern is the JOE SATCH of Jazz!!.... One of my faves, Mike has the feel and soul of melody much like JOE.... A true genius!!....

Glad you made it home safe jblaze!! :-) jblaze1 for Guitar Guard

Hi everyone...I've been away for a day or two... I'll catch up on everything later, but I thought I'd post this now...

Half of Planet Us is going on tour! ;-)

Van Halen had their final tour rehearsal the other day.

Click here and here for info.

The setlist was (with notes from http://www.vhnd.com/):

Jump
Runaround
Humans Being (With Ed on his 5150 Kramer!)
Up For Breakfast (new tune described as hard rocking fun)
Bass Solo
Somebody Get Me a Doctor (Mike on lead vocals)
Poundcake
It's About Time
Drum Solo
Top Of The World
Unchained
Why Can't This Be Love
Eagles Fly (Sammy Solo Acoustic)
Deeper Kinda Love (Sammy Solo Acoustic)
Learning To See (new tune described as Hard rocking and dark)
Best of Both Worlds
Guitar Solo (Featuring Wolfgang Van Halen)
Dreams
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Right Now
You Really Got Me
When It's Love

So, yeah...I just thought I'd pass that along. It'll be cool to see Wolfgang and Eddie jam.

I guess I'm happy with most of the set, although I'd rather see them open with a Sammy-era tune. I think Human's Being would be a great opener.

...Austin...
