The difference, Jimi expanded on blues/rock. Tony Iommi literally created a genre, Heavy Metal. He did it by accient when he lost the tips of 2 of his fingers. Listen to the main types of songs today, and you'll hear downtuning, riffing, etc. They all trace back to Tony Iommi, he made the power chord what is it today, the most used type of chord in rock today!

The Prez: Aint no Bull Shit here! Learn your history! Tony Iommi is a great metal guitarist! Nuff said! No One disputes that fact. Joe Satriani doesn't credit Tony with his guitar evolution. He credits Jimi Hendrix! Disrespect Jimi all you want to, you just look small!! Yes! Eric Clapton was ready to quit guitar atfer hearing Jimi! Sorry! I Don't Make This Shit Up! It's the truth and sorry if it hurt's! That's the way it is! There is more to life than Metal!

Mari

Edit: Eric was joking when he made the statement about quitting guitar. I just left that minor detail out cause I was pissed.

I finally got around to bringing my 2101 GSP and guitar to a music store to plug into some of the half stacks they had there. I tried a Crate amp, wasn’t me. A line6, it didn’t like my processor. The ModeFour and the DLS Marshall’s didn’t like the processor either. The XXX sounded great, better than any of the amps that I tried out. There wasn’t a JSX there, Joe took it with him when he appeared there. I had played the amp a few days before Joe came, but I didn’t have the processor or my axe with me at the time. They are going to call me when they get another one there. I was really impressed with the Peavey XXX, wasn’t expecting it to sound as good as it did with my 2101. I was really disappointed with the Marshall amps, at least with my processor. Looks like Peavey may win out. I am hoping to get 2 half stacks. So far the XXX is in the lead. I will try a 5150 II out also.

My opinion on Hendrix, He was one of the innovators of his time. His experimentation with different sounds and effects, was monumental in influence. He influenced a generation of guitarist that we love to listen to today. I believe he was an exceptional song writer. Little Wing is phenomenal. Was he a great technical player? Well maybe not in comparison to some of today’s top players. I do believe he was technical in some of his structured writing. He opened a door for future guitar players of his time to build on from where he left off. I believe EVH took over in the late 70’s. His style was full of excitement, flash, and technical ability which left us in awe. The mantel was past to Joe in the late 80’s. He took things a step further taking all the sounds and effects from his Hendrix influence combined with the technical abilities that EVH introduced, along with some boogie from Billy Gibbons. He then added his on flare of melodic melodies to the fury. Time will tell who the next great will be and what influences he/or she will bring forth. As good as any player is though. One must have the ability to get there music out so it can be heard. Jimi, Edward, and Joe, in my opinion achieved this. Jimi is gone but his legacy will live forever. Ed, and Joe still have years ahead of them. We should have many more tunes coming in the future from each of them.

Just to clarify, I know there are many great and favorite guitarist out there who can fit the bill with their contributions to the guitar playing world. I am referring to the three that I personally see as being the most inspiring in my musical experience. I am not intending to offend by not mentioning one's favorite influence………….Clint

On the whole Hendrix issue.....isn't it wonderful to live in a world where we have so many great guitarists to listen to? You don't have to pick one above another, enjoy them all.

Well.....except C.C. DeVille.

I would have to say the big point is that most people don't say they play because of beck or johnson or guy. They play 'cause they heard jimi. And no ONE person sounded or sounds like jimi. He blended all the above and created his sound. I think one thing that gets looked over was that he was a musician. Not just some guy who was good at guitar. Unfortunately, he lived the r&r lifestyle. So anytime you look at history you have to look where it changed direction. One point where this happened is at jimi.

As a side Buddy Guy portland aug. 15 yeah!!

No way I want it all!!!. I have some buddies that have a Metal band and they love the sound of the XXX as do I. It's just not as versatile as the JSX. So why not have both?
Joe my JS 1000 is the same way at the third fret (as far as the mother of pearl ( I always thought is was like Abalone myself)). I don't look at the guitar that much when I'm playing anyway and I agree, It's too beautiful to change.

Joe - Did you get a chance to check out that Andy Timmons video? The webmaster should have forwarded the link to you. Click here if you still haven't seen it...it's the first item on the page. :-)

marimariSRV - I think I posted this a while ago, but I thought I'd post it again anyway... It's always fun to see T2Jers being crazy together, so I hope you and Eva can get a picture together somehow...
civgeek - "We do play Walk This Way in my band, and I play the solos. Does that count? Please!!!!"

LOL, okay...I guess that does count. ;-)

cuthbert1776 - "You then discuss those who wait in line at a general admission gig being beaten out by those who pay the price for the premium packs."

I understand what you're saying, but my complaint really has to do with this more than anything else.

I can understand charging more money for shows with seats. It's easy to set rules saying that the first five rows will only be available through the packages, for example. While I don't think that's cool, I understand it.

General admission gigs have one seating level. Letting a group of 50 people jump to the front of the line will instantly piss off everyone else waiting outside in front of the venue. I can see that causing problems during the show... These 50 people supposedly paid for the best seats. What happens if one of them is slow getting to the front, or a few leave to go to the bathroom or to get drinks and come back and complain that they no longer are front and center? I know Satch fans are nicer than most other fans, but I can see this possibly causing fights or problems. It's something I'd rather not have to deal with, as I'll for sure be one of the first people in the "normal" line for this winter's tour.

civgeek - "I'm on a student budget, translated , I'm flat ass broke!!!"

LOL...I'm right there with you. ;-) I need money...

TRUTINA- hey thanks for the link..

EVERYONE-well I agree that Jazzyboy should give up posting all that useless shit( sorry language) on the site. no-body cares. it's between you, tool and deathcube. if ya got a problem with them. deal with it outside of here. this forum is for posting real subjects. not some petty argument. ALRIGHT!

JOE- hey man, you posted another two times. Wow. You have a lot of time on your hands now aye? What was ur first guitar you ever played Joe? did you learn on acoustic or electric? Oh, hey could you PLEASE send me something to learn for guitar..... I wanna learn something simple from one of your songs. maybe even the 'Keep On Rockin In The Free World' song. that looks easy, apart from the solo's you did in G3... so if you could send me easy tabs for that. I would greatly appreciate that.

Thanks heaps.

catch ya later Satchland!

Bonjour people

I ahve jsut bought an EQ pedal for my board. I want to use it as a boost for lead breaks as in my band i tend to be ok with rhythm but get drowned in solos. Where would be the best place for this pedal?? Should it be in the front end or in the effects loop?

Also should I use it to boost the signal when doing lead breaks or use it to cut the signal when doing rhythm?

Anyones input would be greatly appreciated!

The Prez - I'm sure Joe and Steve would love to play in Columbus, but they can't play there if a promoter won't book a show for them.

"Like what Do the Stu said "Hendrix was just good." He just spouts off somethign that is an excepted norm without any real backing."

That is NOT what I said. I didn't "spout off", either. I responded to 4 of your quotes with 17 sentences. You took half of one of my sentences, misquoted it, ignored the rest of my comments, and wrote off my argument by saying it had no backing.

Your comment was: "if tried to do instruentals, he would of never been mainstreem and no one would give a hoot about him."

My response was: "Jimi Hendrix wasn't good because he was mainstream. Jimi Hendrix was good because he was good."

I'm saying that Jimi is considered one of the greatest guitar players ever because he is VERY talented. There are a million examples of this, but here's one to start with... As Joe mentioned recently, listen to the second Machine Gun from the Live At The Fillmore East release. Wow...

Jimi is also very popular, but that has nothing to do with his talent level. I went into that with my comments about Britney Spears and Kurt Cobain, which you didn't even address in your post.

I'd love to discuss Hendrix with you, but that can't happen if you ignore my responses to your arguments.

death cube k - "1t bone walker is where jimi stole the style and performance 2 buddy guy the sound(listen to early 60's bg you will see what i mean)3 jeff beck that where JH stole the phycadelic stuff from"

Nah... You're only a thief if you steal from one person. If you steal from many different people, you're letting your influences inspire you so you can take your art to the next level. ;-) Think about it...hehe.

michelle - One of my brothers is a year younger than me...his birthday is on August 15. I think I've told you that before...

Anyway... I'm not trying to make you feel old (Well, okay, I am...but in a good way!), but I thought I'd let you know that on August 15th you'll be twice as old as him. ;-)

civgeek - "Do I fill the fridge with food and eat good this month, or... do I eat Top Ramen for three weeks and get a new wah pedal?

Bloody decisions, bloody decisions!!"

LOL... That's easy...you eat Top Ramen for two weeks, starve yourself for one week, and buy a new wah pedal better than the one you're looking at now. ;-)

S4TCH BOOGIE - Joe's first guitar was a white Hagstrom.

If you want to learn an easy Satch song, go for Speed Of Light. You should be able to find a tab on the internet... Most of it is fairly simple.

G'day folks
I don't have time to write a long message so I'll just post this joke (a recurring habit but no-one else seems to be doing it):
A woman sitting at a restaurant in McKinney, Texas suddenly began to cough while eating a giant country-fried steak. After a few seconds it became apparent that she was in real distress, and two cowboys at the next table turned to look at her. "Kin ya swaller?" asked one of the cowboys. The woman signalled 'No', desperately shaking her head. "Kin ya breathe?" asked the other. The woman, beginning to turn a bit blue, shook her head 'No.' with that, the first cowboy walked over to her, lifted up the back of her skirt, yanked down her undies, and slowly ran his tongue up and down the woman's butt. This shocked the woman into such a violent spasm that the obstruction flew out of her mouth and she began to breath again. The cowboy slowly walked back over to his table and proudly took another drink of his LoneStar beer. His partner said in admiration, "Ya know, I'd heard of that there Hind Lick Maneuver, but I ain't never seen nobody do it.
