I was just driving home when this commercial came out on radio (on a rock and sports channel in Southern Finland): "Dis and dat (wadever) proudly presents; the legendary guitar-wizard Joe Satriani brings his G3-show with Steve Vai and Robert Fripp to Helsinki Icehall on the 18th of June. Come hear some serious bending!". On the backround they played "Voodoo Child" from Live In Denver -> cool, never thought they'd advertise it on Finnish radio (not to say on TV). Just wondering where are they gonna find tickets for those about to wake only now? ...well, that ain't my problem.

...And a few seconds ago I had a telephone call: my "The spoken & The unspoken" by Andy Timmons has arrived to the record store. -> Ain't life grand!?!

~16 days till G3~

Olly - Place the eq pedal last (as in the last thing before your amp). For example, guitar > wah > distortion > eq > amp. Funny you asked this as I had to experiment with an eq pedal at a gig a couple of weeks ago ( footswitch stopped working) and that is the best place that I found for it.

Hey guys.......... back in after the long weekend :-) Loads to read so I've rushed through and stopped occassionally.

Delfino Lol, I'm not sure where I am at NIA but I think it was Block D (?), Just off to the right of centre and maybe, 10 - 12 rows back.

Phydeaux Dude that's a beautiful little person you got there. Nice to see you and Mom with that 'I'm so happy and proud I could burst' look on your faces as well. It's a gift and no mistaking.

Michelle Big $$$ on music gear for the kids is the only way to end up broke - lol.

Mikey Congrats on the 2000 bro' not bad for a reformed 'lurker' - lmao ;-) Hope you and the family are all good man. I must get round to mailing you soon.

Trutina Tornadoes - cool man, I'd love to check one of those beasts out, I reckon I'd be like you, more intrigued than scared. Good to know that you acknowledge that the dog has more sense than you, as well- lmao. Best piece of advice you could give a new comer as well -'Don't be afraid to suck!' -lol - so true once you get past the laugh factor of the statement. Deep man. :-)

Do The Stu Congrats on the GPA man, just goes to show that the revision routine does work - lol ;-)

Okay, so I checked out G3 Live from Denver last night - wow-I can see that Joe really is in rock mode around now, don't think I've seen him have quite such an 'agressive' presence as that before. Joe - Are you feeling more of a rocking vibe at the moment ? Do you think that playing with two 'rockers' raised your game a bit ? I hope you still have that groove goin' on when you hit the uk. Steve was awesome, as usual I'm sure that he has got more technically proficient - how the hell is that possible and I was pleasantly suprised by Yngwie I thought that he really shone out in the jam session, although going on what other people posted around the time I guess that the mix took care of some of his over playing. You could see that they were having a blast though................. 24 days to go, yeeeehah ! ;-)

civgeek You said "I would have to say the big point is that most people don't say they play because of beck or johnson or guy. They play 'cause they heard jimi."

I know one person up there that didn't, Robert Johnson, he died over 4 years before hendrix was born, get your facts right. And if you ask Zakk Wylde, James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, who inspired him most, it's Tony Iommi. Steve Vai has always gave credit to Frank Zappa, or right under him Jimmy Page. You see more of Tony's rythem playing in modern metal and hard rock than you do Hendrix's. Tony did more for metal than hendrix did. I think really hendrix just kept his genre alive in his point of time, which has heighten when he died. I realize he has inspired countless people, but I'm not one of those who belives if hendrix hadn'tlived then no one would beplaying a guitar, that's a radical thinking. That's something a die-hard fan would say or someone who would say that acting cool. That's the reason he's around, not nessisary because of his playing. If he would have lived, 10 years down the road he could of just made mediocre albums. i do not think that he would of been the #1 dog in the guitar community and kept putting out origional material that would of been accepted by the mainstreem,I don't believe that.

I am from Northwestern Indiana (Merrillville/Crown Point/Gary area).

Joe typically comes though Chicago (but not with DP this time).

I know that would be a hike for you, but it would be worth the trip.

If you notice, the main group of people that hendrix inspired was in that day and age, now not as mnay people site him as an influence. people are starting to site people like Randy Rhoads, James Hetfield, Kirt Hammett, Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan, Steve Vai, etc. Then by everyones terms here, is influencial=best? I don't like it when mags post best list, who's to say who's the best? To say one artist influenced every genre of music and should be crowned god is absured. No one has done that.

PREZ - (long sigh) Ok , i'v come to realize that we are not going to agree on this nor is this going to go away. So, I understand your point on Vai crediting Frank. That makes sense they were two peas in a pod. - strange birds. However Vai doesn't play any Zappa covers in his set. He does play Hendrix. Coincidence?

Obviously Johnson, through chronology alone, couldn't have been influenced by Hendrix. My point was that if you trace influences back more people, not just big names, give credit to Hendrix than the others. Including people outside of rock.

Tonni Iomi is going to influence any play who likes that darker sound whether they realize it or not, but Tonni doesn't cross genres as much as Hendrix does.

And Page, well we don't want to start that aguement. Suffice it to say ..He was a good songwriter. I personally never got the whole Zepplin thing. That's my dad. I definately wouldn't put Page down as a great PLAYER, but a very good writer.

I hope that clarifies. It's good to see you sticking to your guns, but let's move on to something new like Meatloaf's influence or the influence of the BeeGees.

Have a good day.

Matt

The Prez - I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU MAN!, Guitarists, artists, nobody can say that one person is better than the other because there are an infinate ways of comparing people. Like you couldn't just say... This guitarist was better than that guitarist cause he had a better time and was richer. It's all good!

Mikesb - Thanx for the band budgie! My girlfriends pop knows the drummer... they play down my way sometimes... check out DoGZuKi if you get the time.

civgeek - thanx for the website man, i think that picture just says it all... I should come back to that in a couple of months and try again...

The trip between Chicago and Cincy is about 6 hours or so - granted, that is a long way to go for a concert - but it would be worth it.

Joe regularly makes a stop in Chicago. My sister is in Indy and couldn't make it to his guitar clinic (even though I begged her to go to get a few pictures and an autograph - apparently someone needed to work).

another stupid joke from gramps:

The Juggler --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Pennsylvania State Trooper pulled a car over on I-81 about 2 miles North of the PA/MD State line. When the Trooper asked the driver why he was speeding, the driver answered that he was a magician and a juggler and he was on his way to Harrisburg to do a show that night at the Zembo Shrine Circus and didn't want to be late. The Trooper told the driver he was fascinated by juggling, and if the driver would do a little juggling for him that he wouldn't give him a ticket. The driver told the Trooper that he had sent all of his equipment on ahead and didn't have anything to juggle. The Trooper told him that he had some flares in the trunk of his patrol car and asked if he could juggle them. The juggler stated that he could, so the Trooper got three flares, lit them and handed them to the juggler. While the man was doing his juggling act, a car pulled in behind the patrol car, a drunk got out and watched the performance briefly, he then went over to the patrol car, opened the rear door and got in. The Trooper observed him doing this and went over to the patrol car, opened the door and asked the drunk what he thought he was doing. The drunk replied, You might as well take my ass to jail, cause there's no way in hell I can pass that test"

Hey Joe (or anyone else important),

Hope you guys produce a live DVD from the 'Evening with Joe Satriani' tour later this year. The G3 DVDs are OK but not enough if you're looking for a 2hr satch fest. I need to hear more live SBM and ITLIS- Starry Night from the Denver G3 DVD really kicked my ass hard and made it straight onto my personal 'best of' compilation.

Anyhow - here's hoping for at least an hours worth of Satch at the Manchester Apollo on the 24th. ;)
