Warning- this post contains material that might be offensive to non-Metallica fans. It is also a very long post, so you might want to skip it if you’re short of time.

Metallica gave a concert here in Sweden a few days ago, and the reviews were lyrical. I thought I’d post one of them for all of you that actually still like them lol. I didn’t see the show myself, although the reviews almost made me wish I’d been there. I translated this from Swedish, so any misunderstandings or whatever comes from me lol.

Metallica Part 1 Location: Ullevi, Gothenburg Sweden. Audience: Ca 60 000. Length: About two hours and 20 minutes. Best: "One" – once again. Worst: Apart from a few less brilliant choices of songs, the sound in the beginning of the concert. Question: Hey- what about Dyer’s Eve?

1. Blackened
After an introduction with shaky sound the opening riff from ”And justice for all” explodes in a hail storm of crazy riffs and banging drums.
2. Fuel
None of the groups brighter moments, and despite the nice fires on stage and committed singing from Hetfield this bagatell never comes close.
3. Harvester of sorrow
So heavy that the opening riff would be enough to cause lumbago, and still six minutes of finest metal remains. Kirk’s solo excesses at the end feels quite unnecessary though.
4. Welcome home (Sanitarium)
A caressing nightmare, always welcome, even if ”Fade To Black”- which was played in Copenhagen- is marginally better.
5. Frantic
The audience feedback is massive in the beginning and the end, but as in Copenhagen much of the intensity gets lost in the straggly sound.
6. For whom the bell tolls
The first real ten scorer of the night. The Ernest Hemingway-interpretation is introduced with Robert Trujillo’s skillful bass and ends in a granade shower of piercing guitars. Absolutely brilliant.
7. I disappear
Hangs on the edge of unnecessity, but the new balladintro and some really serious groove stops this soundtrack contribution from going over.
8. St Anger
In spite of twenty-some riffs and time changes this version feels unusually concentrated and complex.
9. Sad but true
As always, bulldozer-like and full of calories.
10. Creeping death
It’s starting to get repetitive to award full score to the single from ”Ride the Lightning”, but as this is one of the absolute best metal songs ever recorded, anything else would be a total underratement.
11. Battery
After a pre-recorded intro all hell breaks loose. Incredibly fast riffing along with an awesomely groovy chorus shows us old school-Metallica at their absolute best.

Metallica Part 2

Da Capos - part 1
12. Wherever I may roam
"And the road becomes my bride" This version of the blaster from ’Metallica’ certainly reminds you of the golden age of the early 90-ies.
13. Nothing else matters
Once again Kirk’s spaghetti-guitar introduces the song, and then the notes climb towards the heavens like velvet. You can feel it, heart and soul. The song from the audience drowns out James at several occasions.
14. Master of puppets
The Mammoth-song – eight minutes and a half is after all quite some time- hits the audience almost as hard as in Oslo last December. James is in charge and the audience obeys his slightest wish.

Da Capos – part 2
15. One
After bomb explosions, fireworks and sweeping lights, the story of the living brain is told, a meaningless victim of a pointless war. Totally superior, achingly important – and definitely the most outstanding song of the night.
16. Enter sandman
Obligatory, sure. But a show without this massive hit would not be complete.

Da Capos – part 3
17. Leper messiah
The punch directed to all those hypocritical tv-evangelists out there hits home perfectly. An unexpected choice from ”Master of Puppets”, but brilliant.
18. Seek and destroy
OK, but "Motorbreath", "Jump in the fire", "Whiplash", "The four horsemen" or even "Metal militia" from ”Kill ’em all” would have been better choices.

JS_JS gee that sucks

My father and I worked on my sister's carburator(sp?) and then my father let me drive it for a while (with him in it of course) and then we get home about 20 min later and my sister wakes up (my dad said I drove really good for a first timer) and then he tells her and she's like "did you wreck my car?! I'm gonna kill you!" and then my dad yells I remember someone whos wrecked it twice and hasn't paid for it and then my sister got one those hurt looks on her face and shut up. It was funny

Joe Man 9 - Yeah man THat intro sounds rad... not to sure about the B7 in the second riff... maybe a Bm7 there would be better, like:

E|---|--------------------

B|---|--------------------

G|-2-|-1-2--------------

D|-4-|-0-1--------------

A|-2-|-2-2--------------

E |---|-0-0--------------

^ and put it with these E chords?

And just make a riff with those fingerings... and pick random open notes.

Zenfish I agree with your post on Hendrix/Zappa, etc. ovation1 "Are you trying to get a rise outta JOE??.... If you are, change the damn subject, we've heard enough of your thoughts on JIMI.... BTW, like Austin, you never answered my question about SRV throwing your famous because of death theory out the window."

Ok, I'll answer your question. First I am not trying to get a rise out of Joe, and I can post whatever I feel about the man on this forum, there wasn't a "Limit Subject" rule when I signed up to the forum. And to answer the other question, yes SRV's death did bring him even more into the limelight. Many records were sold after his death, and his legecy grew a lot more afterwards, much like Hendrix's.

ovation1 Just because someone disagrees with you ons oemthign doesn't mean they have to shut-up on the topic. DO I have the right to tell you that? Perhaps if I had said "Jimi is the man, without him no one would be playing guitar, every aspect of the guitar comes from him." then maybe you would be like "Yeah, that's right."

Moogz thanks man. It kind of just came to me, through my hands. I didn't think, I just played it. and then the chord just I kind of randomly did that once and I liked it so kept it. I wasn't sure how to fit in those chords you suggested. I want to keep the same sound though. so I'll see how it all goes. thanks.

Ovation....very well said in a nutshell......as a matter of factly, at the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967.....two other very popular bands of the day were forced to flip a quarter to see who would go on "after" The Jimi Hendrix Experience because both bands knew JHE would be a very tough act to follow. And if anyone has seen the film, they know it was.

I have seen you in concert at the tower theater in upper darby 3-4 yrs ago and you were fantastic. Every time you played in the philly area I was not able to go for some reason and when I finally had the chance to go I was very excited. You are a f?*#^ing amazing guitar player and when you play the house of blues next december, I will definitely be there!!! I will soon be working and go back to having my own apt somewhere here in vegas and get some kind of audio system so I can start buying your music as it cooks. Good luck with your tour in europe and see you when you play vegas, A new J S fan, chris rumpf

trutina, yeah I wish [drool]that[/drool] worked as well! hehe. In case you were wondering....I didn't think it did when I typed it! Smilies would make this board so slow tho, so it's best without 'em!

civgeek, yeah man, I know what you mean about the dry H&K thing.....it's not often you can stick a guitar straight in the front of an amp, without any kind of effects, and it'll still sound interesting. H&K and Fender are the only amps that have done that for me!
The Forgotten (Part 2) For G3!
Joe, can you tell me something - what are you methods when you set about eliminating the 'thump' sound of pick-attack from your tone? I was watching both G3 DVD's last night, and obviously the 8 year gap and big change in amps means that your tone is really different, but you still managed to nearly eliminate that sound. Is it a feature of the way the JS is wired, is it the way you setup your amp's tone, or is it the way you setup your pedal tones?

A lot of guitarists seem to be pro-pick-attack-noise, so I'd guess that your desire to have it dialed out from your tone was something that suprised Peavey a bit?

The Prez, wow, thanks for that 'heads-up' on the upcoming Crossroads DVD! can't wait!
marimariSRV, allright mate?! Excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me, how do you pronounce your name? I might kinda need to know that if we manage to organise meeting up in London! hehe. "Me old scrote".......damn, now I got to explain. I knew that was a bad idea. Well, scrote is an abbreviation of a 2-syllable word with the same first 5 letters! yeah it's gross, i'm sorry!
Ovation1, damn right man, jamming on the acoustic will be an upside of not jamming on the Jem! I just hope i find myself in the mood for some Spanish/Latin stuff. Lately i've been playing my GIO.......I really ought to see if the jem still works! I feel guilty!
Climber, fair enough, on keeping the XXX! Why not have a JSX as well?! I like your way of thinking.....i'm the same about an H&K amp, only I can't afford one at the moment. nevermind!
Ollyno1, do you use another pedal for your rhythm tone, or do you just use the guitar and the amp. Same question goes for your lead tone.

Should the EQ go in the loop? i've never been sure about this, cuz putting it on the loop means the signal is being EQ'd after it's being pre-amplified?!? Put it wherever is most simple, so if, for your lead tone, you use more pedals than your rhtyhm tone, use the EQ to cut down the rhythm sound, then take it off for your lead breaks.

Also, if your using a wah pedal, or a chorus or flanger for example, in your lead breaks, then they (especially the wah) will screw your EQ setting, so my initial 2 cents is put it into your rhythm setup! I hope some of that is useful!

Secret prayer, Ceremony and The Crush Of Love for G3 Ljubljana
Yoda, in my opinion that isneither a waste nor an investment - it's a contribution! that 64 quid has slightly helped the music industry, which is far better than downloading! well done! hehe
