MICHELLE--I tried to give you the answer without giving out the answer. ( Let others play). I would have thought some of our German/European freinds would have picked up on mine. Skew Siskin. Their latest release (I think) sucks compared to their others. But I would highly recommend them.

CIVGEEK--After this weekend I'm free (Champ Cars at Pir) Thursday show in Salem was good! with the smaller venue, he was able to do more free for all stuff. Got to get to the track.............

DEATH CUBE K - I don't care if it's maple, it could still be bass wood I just like the stain. I now that I think of it the custom shop ph # is on Joe's post from a few back. Later.

IBANEZ 89 - The intro to flying in a blue dream. Hold the C on the third fret of the A string. From there it is feedback. You have to control it with the position of the guitar in relation to the amp as well as volume. So, depending on where you are and how you are turned you will produce a different overtone. The intro is the easy part. Good Luck!!

962 - GTA is cool it's all the things that you would like to do in real life some times but don't forfear of the leathal injection. I don't even try to PLAY the actual game I just run around and beat up people. I don't even know what the point of game is.

2297 - PIR huh? At least they do more than just turn left. I have never understood the 'left turn' facination in this country. I would watch more if they would talked more about the cars. That 's the interesting stuff. Who cares about the drivers.

also a little trick to get more feedback, instead of jus playing the C play trhe Octave of it on the G string ;) I use it an adds more depth and easier to achieve feedback, But it all depends on ur set up and ur amp and settings and guitar, where u stand, everything effects it...

...fffhhhiuuuuuuuufhhhhhh...
...oh, man... so much to tell, so unorganized thoughts and feelings... I'll just have to try and focus, and make it short 'cause I don't want to (can't) sit still the whole day.

G3 in Helsinki Icehall 18th of June 2004: (Part I)

Joe's and Steve's setlists were just the same that at the first gig of the tour

R Fripp:
~At 7 pm sharp; Lights out... only two dim spots pointing straigt down to a place on the stage right behind a pile of speakers -> didn't see even a glimpse of the man in the whole evening '¤^?*#~¨!'

...He went five miles out with those soundscapes... he went deep...

People took it quite well and relatively polite (even if not were all that presence (in the music), the applause kept coming every now and then).

... For me: That was something new...and different...a bit weird... 7:35 pm; Lights on. ~

S Vai:
~At 7:40 pm; Lights out... Steve walks in like he's coming to his own livingroom... people are sitting, but giving him a very warm welcome in our own kind of sullen but still solemn way (Joe and Steve must know by now that there are differences between the traits of different nations, but it's obviously very fascinating for them)... big smile on Steve's face.

The upper seats of the house are not being utilized (?) so there were only about 5000 (my best guess) spectators which made the atmosphere pretty unique... large room, earnest listeners; like some kind of devotions...

...Steve's show was awesome... very intense. Billy, Tony, Dave and Jeremy; what a tight band!

...nice little chats between some tunes... "Answers", "Reaper" and "For the Love of God" were the ones that Steve (and me too) seemed to be enjoying the most.

...standing obeisance... big smiles on the band faces... Steve says he's gonna come back soon... ~

(Part II)

J Satriani:
~Not a clue about time; Lights out... in comes Joe and the band... LOUD welcome... "Hands in the air" starts it all...

... the sounds are great and Joe and the band really seem to enjoy themselves... they are stealing the show... standing obeisance...

..."Satch Boogie"... Joe puts something new in it... 'nuff said (speechless)...

...cool new (to me at least) intro on "Cool #9"...

..."Gnaahh" and "I like the rain" show that Joe really enjoys playing the new stuff, which mediates good vibes to the audience...

..."Up in Flames" worked just like I knew it would when played live... Joe (again) puts something extra on and the crowd is really getting in on the feelings that Joe creates...

..."Always with me, always with you" was really a nice surprise for me; Joe has developed this one to a whole new level than the original was, especially the improvised jam after the original end of the tune, where Galen starts to laugh shakin' his head like: "Jesus, what is that man (Joe) doing?" Something to keep heads up!...

...on "Searching" the band and us crowd...we find it again...

...Joe talks quite a lot between the tunes, except the final 'medley-kind of thing' with "ITLIS", "War" and "FIABD" that Joe (and the band of course) nicely knit together (as was introducted)... Joe is really having a blast... ~

JAM:
~ Robert had come on the stage already. Steve comes in waving to us, shakes Matt's, Jeff's and Robert's hands and bows real deep to Joe (who bows back)...

..."Ice 9" is really an icebreaker... Robert is shredding and gets full respect... something is about to happen...

...when "Red" starts to roll all the people on the floor gets up and the stage begins to suck them towards it... Joe and Steve start laughing... I'm flying...

...Joe introduces "The Murder" lifting Steve on the stand... wow!...

..."Rockin' in the free world" ends with an extraordinary dialogue of Joe's and Steve's guitars... when it finally ends, Steve is watching Joe, laughing and hits the air hard... time for thanks and goodbyes...

...my soul is fostered. ~ Thank you, Joe!

clarky...but making something sound original is a challenge...i dont find "always with me" particular challenging...only in a few areas in the song...like the fast runs...if i work on them then i'll get it. but at the moment i dont really want to. i just bought the new guitar techniques magazine..thats got loads of rock, metal, jazz, blues and country licks in..and vai's boston rain melody fully tabbed. i wont be able to play it but i can look at it and learn from it...thats what i intend to do. same with the licks..theres probably no way i can play some of them upto full speed like the petrucci and gilbert licks..but i should be able to play them at slow speed and study them.

Ibanez89: lol bro, I see you've been asking alot about FIABD!!.... It start's off in C and then JOE lets it ring with lots of vibrato and his position is very important for the feedback.... FIABD feedback explanation and tab are here for you to figure out........ Good explanation in there and good luck!! :-)

962: Bro!!.... You got to see one at a motor show!!!!.... Awesome man!!!!.... I saw an F-1 on display a few years ago and about drooled myself out of saliva, lol, I can only imagine what the Carerra looks like in person!!.... The rear diffuser and airflow ducts are right out of aircraft design, while the monocoque underchassis allows for strength and with the carbon fiber it is super lightweight!!.... Bravo to the designers for thinking of everything, lol, I wish I had a couple mil so I could have that on a list of things to buy!! ;-)

btw, on Dr. VAI.... Yeah man, as in Pablo's case, everything was worked out before hand, and if they dont prepare for Dr. VAI's, things could get ugly, lol!!.... You have a great weekend too man!! :-)

Congrat's Noppa!!!! :-) :-) Thank's for sharing your review, and did you say Steve played The Murder of Christian Tierra's lover!?!?!? :-0 Sound's like the Euro G3 is kicking ass!!!! :-)

I'm having problems transferring my pics from the camera to the computer... my comp won't find the camera, even though I've downloaded the driver... hopefully I'll be able to sort it out somehow soon. It's very frustrating having a loaded camera full of nice pictures but you can't get them out lol.

Listening/watching to the G3 '96 DVD with Eric Johnson as I'm writing this... it's amazing. Steve and Mike Keneally always makes me laugh with those stupid hats of theirs lol. The jam is pretty cool too, I like the songs better than this years. Man, Red House really smokes on this one...

Noppa Glad to hear you liked the show! Joe played War at our show too, I forgot to mention that. And on second thought, I think Steve played Answers, not The Animal. I always mix up the names of those two lol.

Edit: I think Mari has a new admirer... lol

Welp Joe...

I watched the G3 DVD and all I can really say is that Yngwie was a HOG through the whole concert... Which makes me think... Did Yngwie think it was "Yngwie J. Malmsteen & G2"?

Not to take anything away from Yngwie's ability as a guitar player but for lack of a better phrase; Yngwie deliberately went out of his way to steal the show... Not that he succeeded or anything but hey..

And for arguement sake, I don't think that's the whole point of G3 now is it?

I think It's really all about trading licks and drawing the other guy beside you into pulling out all the stops into a pressure cooker of song...

To solo through every entire song is not always appealing to some listeners in fact I think it's not in a guitar player's best interest into solo everything anyway. Not once did I see Yngwie even remotely strum a chord... when Joe and Steve were pounding out the chords to those songs, Yngwie went out of his way to stand out and shred it up, when it really wasn't his place to do so...

Now, the fact that a european guitar player plays a North American G3 show, and then suddenly the European G3 is upon us at this very moment right now, and the fact that Robert Fripp has taken over the role of guest G3 artist would quickly suggest in my opinion that Yngwie was not invited back for obvious reasons... I'm sure there's more to it than that. and I could be speculating but I'm calling it like I see it... just my opinion... Nuttin personal!

Peace... Barrie

barrie: agree with your Yngwie review. accurate.

I dont understand why g3 is using their own songs for the jam.......

Yngwie was good on G3 I think. He should not be allowed to jam though. Thats when it gets really annoying. Everything about him sucked - guitaring, the attitude and the clothes. Any musician who starts drinking on stage needs to be booted out. Even Slash wasnt drinking on stage.

About Fripp, I would just like ti say that when people have forked out a lot of money to see a show, it is their prerogative to speak their mind and say what they thought of it. If they want to say something negative about Fripp, well they paid their money, and they're giving their opinion.

And about Yngwie, people are saying about him taking things over and being over the top.... This is Yngwie bloody Malmsteen!! Don't you think Joe knows what Yngwie is like, and that he is extravagant, a shred-machine, OTT etc?! Of course he does! Joe didn't expect Yngwie to come to G3, stand at the back of the stage and be a bit shy. He knew that he would come and shred all night, he knew he would be over the top, he knew there was a chance he would go grazy on the jams. Surely this was one of the great things about having Yngwie on the roster, because he is a special and different individual and brought something different to the table. I have seen Vai quoted as saying Yngwie is 'the elite'. Strong words from a legend like Vai. To see Yngwie play is a privilege that I may never have (he doesn't seem to come to the UK thesedays), and I think everyone who has seen him has been very lucky, a true genius with a guitar in his hands.

I just bought ticket for the G3 show in Paris and signed up for the aftershow pass - AWESOME ... I can't wait to see and hear you and Steve Vai play!!! I have been playing your "Is There Love In Space?" CD in my car for over a month now - I love it so much it's almost worn out! I wonder whether you will be having any meet the fans sessions in Paris so that I can get your autograph (PLEASE). Please reconsider performing in MALAYSIA - you were scheduled to perform there but cancelled due to the SARS epidemic, I waited months to buy the tickets but was badly and sadly disappointed when it was cancelled until futher notice. Strange enough nearly one year later, I am here in Paris and my favourite guitaris and musician is performing - YAHHHHOOOOO, I wouldn't miss it for the world though you have to share the stage with Steve and errr ... Robert Fripp?! I must do some research about Mr Fripp and his music since I no next to nothing about him ... except I read somewhere once about Frippertronics ... repeating notes again and again ... doesn't sound too musical??? Would have loved to see Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, or John Petrucci jam with you onstage. I love your Live in San Francisco DVD, I hope that you will also think of your poor fans in small countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philipines, etc who don't have a chance to see you perform in a rock concert!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MUSIC THAT HAS BEEN MAKING MY LIFE MORE EXCITING & HAVE A GREAT TOUR JOE - STAY COOL & HAVE FUN !!!
