Been listening to my new Cd's today. Velvet Revolver is certainly very cool. Thanks Austin for your input on that one!! certainly glad i got it!

Is there love in space is amazing. Especially after G3! I do love the title track and Hands in the air! Brings back that G3 feeling!

I don't understand why people don't like the performance of Robert Fripp. He's part of the G3 for the second time if I remember well. I guess he's not reaching the "shredding" expectations of the audience... Anyway, I had the chance to see the show in Helsinki, and to meet the guys at the aftershow. It' was cool to have a short talk with them. Strangely, nobody seemed to pay attention to Robert... I was sorry for him.

Also, the same question was asked to Joe : 'Who's gonna be the next 3 in G3 ?' Come on guys, the tour is starting...

Totally bizzare. After watching G3 in Bournemouht on Sunday, I happened to be near my local guitar shop today and dropped in. Notiiced a beat up steel six Framus, exactly the same model as my first decent guitar-a Framus, German make. Remember going up to Shaftesbury avenue in London with a friend to spend our summer holiday job money on guitars, he bought a second hand Fender, I bought the Framus. That was in the summer of 1974 when we were teenagers (I'm 48).

this guitar was distinguished by having a deep brown sunburst body, contoured back, wide wedge-shaped head, and laminated neck. Same guitar. My one had a hole on the top made by an iron bar that rolled off a shelf on to it. So did this one.

Stone me, it was my old guitar from 26 years ago! I had given it away to an impoverished student friend in 1978, I heard he later sold it to pay his rent. Someone had repaired the hole with the back of a watch.

Beat up as it was, the old guitar still sounded pretty good (it was the best guitar in the east end of London in my price range in 1974) despite the worn out string and cracked bridge-obviously there was no alernative but to buy it.

I can't believe this is a co-incidence and I.m trying to work out what God might be sayng to me through this?!?!?!?!!?? True story.

First, thanks for all the great music and great albums you have released. You are an inspiration for all musicians, an specially guitar players.

Joe, sorry about the basic question but I am getting conflicting information on this: which string brand and gauge are you using? They seem to be 09. Do you use the same gauge or thicker gauge for practicing? Also I will appreciate if you describe some tips on how to get the famous Satch squeal (have read about pulling the whammy bar, picking on the 4th string open, I believe, and then releasing the whammy bar -- warning: so far this tecnique has only allowed me to break up to 2 thin strings at once, ouch!!

Last question, this about you prior session work: how it was your experience recording and playing with Mick Jagger? How it differ his to your songwriting approach? I heard Mick works really hard in the studio, trying many different vocals over the song. Did you get to play with Jeff Beck also during those sessions?

Thanks again and Keep serving society by rocking!!!

Hey all in Satchland! Wish I was at these UK Gig's! Especially the Royal Albert Hall Gig! BTW:To all the peeps that want to hear Summer Song... Someone at the Stockholm show yelled it out quite clearly between songs and Joe said something like this: "I know you all want to hear Summer Song but I thought this is the 1st tour that I am not going to play it. I only have so much time to play.... I can't play every song you want to hear!" Right on Joe! I will gladly listen to whatever YOU want to play for me! I KNOW you will be playing your heart out for me each and everytime! Nuff said!

Dragonchild: That was "spot on" right? (pretty close?) After seeing the photo of me and Billy I remembered.........the beer drooling down his chin was a clue...... he spit the beer in his mouth out like a water fountain in the park! LMAO! OMG! Did he get you with it?! Not sure of that little bit. hehe! Oh what fun!

Zenfish: Send me your CD. If it's good I'll give it to Jimmy Vaughn! No problem. Good music is meant to be shared! You have to checkout Eric Steckel! Promise?! He will blow you away my friend! I can only imagine him in 10 years, he is awesome now! Damn Straight! He will be touing the Netherlands in the next 2 weeks.... check him out if U can!

IceZer: Hey Jay! Nice site! Check out http://ericsteckel.com/ the kid is only 13 yrs old and you can't tell that till he starts singing! I'm so glad to hear how much you loved the G3 shows! I was just like you...I was high for 2 weeks! Swear! I couldn't sleep! My life hasn't been the same! It's been better than I ever could have imagined, so many pathways were reopened. It's all good! In fact, it's EXCELLENT! btw: Jeff Beck doesn't use a pick! I don't think his nails are real long though. My seat was in the 16th row. They had a close-up camera/ big screen thing behind the drummer. That's how I know.

IceZer:

The sight looks like a good beginning. Takes time huh! Personally I don't like the picture transitions, you don't need them. Concentrate on content the style will fall in line by default.

The pictures would be cool if they didn't have the copyright plastered over them. You know they are yours, and you are not making any money for them so what is with the copyright? If you don't want anyone to steal them then don't publish them. It is a little like baking cookies with big chunks of baking soda and solid sugar but claiming they are your Gma's recipe`, as though they still taste good.

Do The Stu:

I suggest that you are making your own opinion hidden while you re-state what you think will read well by fellow JS-posters. In regards to the Bowling for Columbine.

My opinion is that Moore merely provides the information to you, which you otherwise would not have known. The Columbine case is mired with unknowns, untruths, and misjudgements by the various policing parties involved. Why was one boy shot in the front of his body as he fleed in horror away from the school as directed by the police on sight. Where did the bullet that killed him come from? Perhaps from the grassy knoll just past the parking lot. Where did the bullet that killed him go? It seems to be missing though the autopsy clearly showed a front entry wound. By the way the two killers were in the library at the time the kids were ordered to flee from the school by the police outside.

I ask what is the motive for hiding this information? It was a tragedy that the whole thing even happened but why hide information? Hey, oops, the police man shot him out of fear and nervousness, he got terrified and made a poor judgment in the heat of the moment. Or maybe he just wet his pants as he shook in fear accidentally pulling the trigger under the stress. So what, I make mistakes, you make mistakes, the police don't I guess. The truth is all anyone ever wanted.

Once you get past that then you start asking questions like: Why is a police man, who is supposed to protect me in a dangerous situation and who accidentally shot and killed a child in just that sort of dangerous situation, still on the job?

Then of course there is the fact that several parents had previously made complaints about one of the KILLERS including information about the hate website he kept yet the police did notta. I don't think the Killer's parents were even questioned about the complaints that had been filed.

So you are left wondering: What kind of police department am I protected by? Sure the KILLER's parents are in part responsible but the deed is done, that is a question that makes you just shake your head. The police on the other hand continue to be in the role of protecting me...How?

It is said that only those who question why and make complaints actually change the world. This is because questions reveal truth related to complaints that are embarrasing or just plain wrong. This in turn leads to some changes however small they may be. Has anyone asked the parents that made the complaints about the KILLERs how they feel about it?

The world is made up by the haves, the have-mores, and the have-a-lots and then there is the dos, the do-mores, and the do-a-lots but lets not forget the have-nothings and the do-nothings. The have-a-lots tend to do-nothing and the Have-nothings tend to do-a-lot. Somewhere in the mix is the do-a-lots with documentation of complaints and questions that can make the do-nothings do something to give the have-nothings a little something. All of which inspires them to do even more while the news just goes by. Meanwhile the n'er-enoughs get to be had-enoughs and Murrah's go up, schools get quiet, and towers come down.

Blah blah blah... Tic tic tic...

Thanks for the recommendations and the welcome. I have heard of Vai, but I don't know anything about the other three. I'll definitely check them out. I'm just getting into instrumental guitar so I feel a bit ignorant, but I guess you have to start somewhere. I have heard LTE and they definitely peel the paint. Being a bassist, you're probably a huge Levin fan. That guy rocks. Anyway, thanks again for the recommendations. Looks like this will be a good place to learn about some great musicians.

Just a note to everyone about Robert Fripp. I'm no expert on the guy, but my brother is a big fan. I noticed that people have been complaining about his lack of stage presence. I have heard that he believes there is only one way to play the guitar. You must hold the guitar a certain way and your body must be in certain posture at all times. I'm told that he does not believe in moving around when playing the guitar. That's probably why he just sits at the side of the stage. I guess if you go to a King Crimson concert, he never leaves his chair the entire show. He invented his own unique brand of guitar playing and does not waiver from that formula. Bit of a perfectionist I'm told. I just became a member of this site and did not even know Fripp was part of the G3 tour until I started reading some of the posts. He's a great guitarist, but I don't think he is right for this forum. Anyway, maybe this will clear up some of the misconceptions about the guy. Like I said, I'm not a Fripp expert, so I could be totally wrong.

Does anyone notice any similarity to the shreddy part of War and general Megadeth songwriting? I think the rhythm piece during the solo of War sounds a lot like something Dave Mustaine would write and the solo sounds like Marty Friedman. Or vice versa.

To be precise listen to Hangar 18 and Holy Wars the punishment due by MEGADETH

I have a question to all the republicans and conservatives:

1) Why do you hate Michael Moore? Is it because he exposed all of Bush's failures during his past 4 years? How hard is Farenheit 9/11 to understand? He has done enough research and interviews with government officials to gather the facts. How hard is it to understand?

2) If you think people should "support" troops, why dont you enlist in the army?

3) How hard is it to understand that in war soldiers die, innocent civilians die and families are shattered?

4) Saddam had no role in September 11. I can say that with confidence. His economy was shattered for him to really do anything. I have done significant research of the Middle East and the war on Iraq seemed necessary only to fill Bush's pockets and help big corporations.

Good part is that Saddam was captured, which could have been done easily with UN forces. So Bush technically did not achieve anything.

I dont want to start a fight here, but was greatly moved by Farenheit 9/11. As a rational (to some extent...) human being, I connected the dots and saw Michael Moore's argument quiet Legitimate. If people get too condescending, just stop it. Dont need your response.

OCPS470....thanks for the info....up until now I had never heard of EVH doing anything outside of Van Halen. I might have to look that one up.

Jazzy Boy......you caught my attention with this 9/11 flick...I think I need to go and see it.

Question of the day........what really IS the proper way to install strings on a guitar? I've seen so many variations that I wonder if the correct way has been lost over the centuries...lol. OK...so the electric guitar has only been around for about 60+ years...so we'll go with that.

G3 Nottingham - What an awesome night!!! After hearing what some people were saying about Fripp I can only disagree....What a refreshing change to hear something original and NO BOOING FROM ANYONE!!! He actually got a huge reception!!!

Next it was Steve's turn.......Again awesome!!! Funniest parts of his set were 1, he came on with the band and played Shy Boy and after that Billy Sheehan had to introduce the band as Steve had lost his voice!!! And I mean completely lost it!!! The other thing was an on going thing where he had to keep blowing his nose at every available opportunity so there were bits of Steve's snot-soaked tissues around the place!!!

Joe's set - Nothing to say but absolutely fucking incredible!!! I am lost for............oh yeah, words!!!

The jam was spot on!!!

Got to meet Steve, Joe, Dave (Weiner) and Jeff outside and got a load of stuff signed and got to ask Joe a very important question.........(see below)........

What was the question I here you ask?

I told Joe that I was a member of his website and that I am one of the contributers to the T2J CD project and then I asked Joe if he had heard the T2J CD yet and he said............."Yeah, I have listened to it twice and it is awesome!!!" DID YOU HEAR THAT!!! HE SAID IT IS AWESOME!!! YEAH BABY!!!

Must now sleep as it is 02:31 in the morning,

Aarren

Yes, I have also just got back from the Nottingham G3. It was very refreshing not to have the crowd booing Fripp, although it was rather annoying having a bunch of 15 year olds behind me going "Fuckin' fripp fuckin' boring fuckin' " etc etc. As for the actual soundscape, I found it very interesting and pretty good, and enjoyed it a gret deal. Certainly better than listening to 3 bunches of wild shred if they'd kept Yngwie on, in my opinion. I could also see him, which was nice. As for Vai's set, well I must admit I didn't like his song choices all that much, and was fairly annoyed when he didn't sing at all (as Mowlie said, he'd completely lost his voice) as in my opinion he's by far the best singer to have walked on stage tonight. His playing was slightly sloppy, but I'll forgive him that as he obviously wasn't feeling well. I'm also wondering if by having both Tony and Dave, they're both a bit underused, perhaps? But then again, I could hardly hear the keys for most of it thanks to the mix. On a more positive note, it was good to hear Giant balls of Gold. Now onto Joe. He was everything I'd ever hoped and dreamed he would be. Tight as an extreme pair of 80s leather trousers, supremely imaginitive, and obviously having great fun with it. His band were also on top form (I have finally been convinced that Matt is worthy to fill Stu Hamm's shoes, and Jeff souded way better than he usually does on CDs) An amazing performance all round. By the way, was it Hands in the Air that was played at the start? A very fine song. The Jam: Fripp was a bit low in the mix, methought, which was a pity as he came out with some very good (and extremely Vai - sounding) lines on Ice 9. As for Red, well I've just put myself back together with superglue after exploding. We all know about the Joe and Steve chemistry, but that between Joe and Robert is astounding, the former being the real power behind the song, and the latter becoming almost scarily violent sounding. Well he has had 30 years since he wrote it to perfect it! Shame about the Steve Joe shred fest at the end, though. Rocking the free world was okay, but as with Shy Boy and Is there Love in Space, the instruments were too high in the mix and I could hardly hear the singing at all. So, Joe 10/10, Robert 8/10 (should have been higher in the mix and needs to be a bit more assertive, but still amazing), Steve 7/10 (failed to impress me that much, but he did appear to be quite ill.) Now I've heard soundscapes, I want to hear some more, but also to hear more of Fripp's very fine 'normal' playing. Now a Satriani / King Crimson tour, THAT could be interesting.........

Ooh, I have lithograpy 530/750. As someone said, RF doesn't often sign autographs, so I had to have one of those.
