Ldacez - It's never too late to start playing guitar. :-)

opticalstudio - Yes, I got your email...thanks.
Zenfish - I think it's an ego thing with EVH, yes...

With Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, money probably plays a part. Jimmy Page isn't going to make the same money doing G3 that he'll make doing a Page / Plant tour, for example...

I wish Jimmy would get back on the road and or at least get in a studio and do SOMETHING. It's been five years since we've heard new music from him, and four years since he's toured. I know a year of that time was spent working on the recent Led Zeppelin CD and DVD, but still... ;-)

Young Bernie - Advice? Start slow... ;-)

Also, £257.50 isn't anywhere near $1,760...it'd be somewhere around $500.

Hi!

In monday, i'll see Paco de Lucia!!! I can't wait!!!

About Fripp: he's a great choice for a third G! Before he was chosen for playing on G3, I hadn't even heard of him. Now I heard most of the stuff of King Crimson(they are very, very good) and also I heard a lot of Fripp's soundscapes and after deep listening I found a lot in that music. He sure is a better choice than Yingwie!!!

Can someone give me some advice on sweep picking? Some exercises that are best for a begginer in this techinque?(sp?)

Hey YoungBernie- If you're new to the guitar, you can't effectively play Satriani's music or anything like that any more than an elementary student can write a doctoral thesis. You have to be prepared to practice a lot and still suck for a LONG time!

"There was a big problem though, although I really loved Jimi Hendrix music and I liked what he was doing, I couldn't play at all and when I tried I sounded pretty lousy So that was the beginning of years of hard practice..." -Joe Satriani, Satch Tapes

So see there were no shortcutts for him any more than the rest of us- just dedicatation and disicpline and hundreds into thousands of hours of practice.

When I first started I almost quit 6 months down the road cause I still sounded terrible and couldn't get my fingers to do certain things- like bar chords or fluid scaling. But I didn't stop and now after a few years of practice I'm getting somewhere. I still can't play most of Satriani's solos by ear and most of the tab you find online is horrible, but the melodies and rythems are coming together nicely for me. But to be sure, I couldn't play any of that when I started and did well to play Metallica riffs and such.

Good luck with your playing, but I suggest if you want to enjoy your practice in the mean time, learn some of the simpler songs you like by other less technical artists.

Mr. Satriani, First i want to start off by thanking you for all your music. I wanted share with you something that happened at one of your shows. It was at the july 5 2001 show in dallas tx at Bass hall. It was later on in your set list, this was the first time i had seen you live. You were playing always with me , always with you & part way through the song it hit me that i was standing about 8 feet away from joe satriani playing that song! now as weird as that sounds, I kind of thought back on all the times as a learning guitarist i listened to that song, the first i heard it or saw the video and the day I was so proud to just learn the first verse and show off to a friend. Even remembered when a friend told me about your music and the first cd i bought (the extremist) it just became a surreal moment in time. You really made a connection to me personally. completely and solely through your music. i felt somewhat overwhelmed at that moment and realized how much your music meant to me and millions of others. thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.

guitarnut777 that was a nice messege for young bernine. I am also a beginner guitarist and what you told him is what everyone has told me. I have been playing for about two years now and I practice a few hours everyday. I still suck obviously but now I can play some blues and make it sound pretty good. I know it will take time to get to the point where I can play stuff that I really want to play though. but yeah, you are right.

Hey everyone--

Some of the concert reviews for the EOC tour mention that Joe played "Clouds Race Across the Sky," "Down, Down, Down," and "A Train of Angels" at some of the earlier shows. I have the Live in S.F. DVD, but he had swapped those songs out of the setlist by then.

I'd love to hear the live versions of those three songs. Does anyone know if Joe played those songs on one of the webcasts from the tour? Anyone know where I can get an audio or video copy?

You can reply by posting here or e-mailing me -- TTJ members can view my e-mail by clicking my name.

Thanks

woohoo! home at last...

clarky....i dont like learning others people songs...maybe some little licks and stuff...looking at some of the licks in the new guitar technique magazine gave me some new ideas in terms of tapping...but i like to write stuff and like to improve playing that way. i want to join this band i'm been talking to for ages but since i've been away at the acm i couldn't get to jam with them...hopefully now i'm home i can.

HEY JOE!!

BARCELONE IS WAITING YOU WITH DESIRE!!

Just eight days are missing. Just eight days to see you again. Just eight days to see Vai again, as well. I can't believe it. At last, both of you are coming to Barcelone and you're gonna play together. What I have dreamt so many times will become true in just eight days, amazing!! I will call that "Flying in my desired dream" . I have to wait to sunday the 4th but it's worth waiting and seeing you. From my point of view, i think you deserve a bigger place where to play and you have lots of fans around here that would like seeing you but the capacity of the concert-room isn't enough big to let them go inside. Well i hope you enjoy your stay in Barcelone!!

We will have a nice night with your music, your skill and your virtuosity in guitar playing.

Keep playing and innovating!!

Allabouteves link to G3 Stockholm pictures

These are not pictures from the show itself, no cameras were allowed and Mari with her photo pass took tons of pics with her pro camera, so I'm eagerly awaiting copies from her. These pics are from the aftershow and the following bar session... lol

Enjoy! :)

BOOing in a concert is not cool. If you pay all that money to watch a show, why make it an unpleasant experience? Even if you dont like an opening act or something it does not mean that you should be booing the performer. Just give them some claps. Seriously, booing really bugs me at concerts because it brings in negative energy. it seems ironic coming from me but I dont think I have the balls to boo anyone on stage, neither should you. Fripp kicks ass. Treat him well.

Death Cube: I got back from chicago. It was alrite, work stuff. No time to really hang out.. The Darkness concert was fabulous. I had heard their whole album, liked some of their songs quiet a bit but thought the whole thing was a gimmick. They proved me totally wrong onstage!

962: lol! that was great! Maybe some of you british dudes should cover lifestyle karaoke style and see how it goes. Would love to hear it!

Ovation: WIsh I paid for the Darkness now that I know they rock!

Alexandre: Awesome man! I am sure JUJU will have a great time with superior company like yours....Good Karma! also, waiting for the website!

The Darkness show was amazing. They blew me away when they played Love is only a feeling, Love on the rocks, Ibiatcl, Friday night, hazel eyes, growing on me, holding my own, black shuck.........and ACDC hells bells. It was great. Check them out guys! Real talent up there.

The Darkness is passable old fashioned guitar oriented rock. Cannot get my head around some of the helium induced vocals though. Hope the vocs are better live!!!

Zenfish, TMac can still smoke on guitar, in contrast to the limited solo time he is afforded by Mr Vai. Check out any of the three "Ring of Fire" disks he has appeared on. I think George Bellas was guitarist on the other. Tony is/was strictly the guitarist with Ring of Fire, Mark Boals on vocs, Philip Bynoe on bass, Virgil Donati on drums and the incomparable Vitalij Kuprij on keys... He takes Jens Johansson and Derek Sherinian to the next level!!! Any way TMac smokes on these releases. Too bad for France but they were not deserving!!!

kurde - Hi...welcome to the site. :-)

The songs you're looking for appear on the 5/19/00 Seattle webcast. I don't have a copy of that, though. If you find someone that has it, can you let me know? I'd love to get that too... ;-)

dragonchild - Thanks for sharing your pictures... You all have HUGE smiles...that's way cool. :-) I looked at some of your pictures of Iceland, too...they're beautiful.
Jazzy Boy - "I dont think I have the balls to boo anyone on stage"

Whether or not you "have the balls" to do it is really irrelevant. People should just stop at the fact that it's rude and not do it.

carbraga01 - Yes, according to Steve Vai's website, G3 will be in Brazil later this year.

Austin Yeah, we had a really good time that night... although I look positively deranged in that pic of me and Joe... and half drugged on other pics lol. I just can't seem to catch that exact balance of laughing and keeping my eyes open at the same time lol.

Iceland is/was very beautiful in a very wild, rough way. I'd like to go back there in the summertime some day.
