Why is it when people hear a rock lead guitar they instantly think "heavy metal" ??? Sure, I play an endless amount of notes and my chords can be a little raunchy with some gain and a touch of distortion, but I don't call it "heavy metal"!

I like to think of my music as instrumental rock "MUSIC" It's music. It's not judas priest, or pantera, or the scorpions. When I play guitar I try to play with integrity. I'm not trying to be a speed induced metal head.

Furthermore, I don't think of Satriani as "heavy metal". To me Led Zeppelin is not "heavy metal". Even though Sammy Hagar has a song titled "heavy metal", I don't really consider him as "heavy metal" either. Just because a guitar is loud and distorted doesn't mean it's "heavy metal".

Question for Joe Satriani: I know that Joe plays with some bands here and there, but why do we never hear Joe Satriani play a solo for some pop artist or on some rock bands new song? Kinda like how Van Halen did a solo for Michael Jackson. Wouldn't it be cool if Satriani did a solo on a new pop song or collaborated with a rap artist or something!? Just a thought ...

962- I am without a mic here but like mari said, if you need a phone call let me know... good luck with your song... very interested in hearing it when you are finished... keep us posted...

Joeman- glad that everything went relatively ok... when do you get the results?

Tastey and Austin- make that two t2jers that arent very big fans of velvet revolver... i have tried listening to the cd several times and cant see what the fuss is about besides the band line up...

Tastey- hope that your friend peter is doing ok... sending good vibes his way~~~~~~

Jazzy- sorry to hear about your lady trouble... girls can be very confusing, just ask us.... :) my advice, talk to her about your feelings so that you both know where you stand and can deal with it from there... good luck!

GGG- you are forbidden from ever mentioning "where the red fern grows" again... lol... that movie/book is so sad that it ruins the rest of my day just hearing it brought up again! ultimate tear jerker!

made it back to denver this morning and am so glad to be home! bit of trouble driving through the iowa city area... black sky with a green tinge that i just know was ready to spit out funnel clouds and then driving rain!!!! sometimes i hate the drive between coldwater and denver!

Anyway, hope all is well with everyone in Satchland... hope that the rest of your friday is a good one..

"bbkane careful with your question about whether the raise to $7something being "real or nominal." it really makes it seem like you're just throwing in terms you don't know how to define."

real wages are those adjusted for inflation......I assumed people knew that....sorry

I do think with a macro mindset....However with mininum wage increases companies can only afford to have higher quality low end workers, hence the increase in productivity. If you offer more money it will attract more people, with this increase in applicants there will be more skilled workers! Hence the increase in productivity. This increase in productivity leads to expansion. Hold that thought though, even if that isnt true......The increase in consumable income will lead to an increase in aggregate demand......Which I thought I made clear without saying it. The fact is Ad=c+i+g+(net exports) C being consumption. If anything you are thinking of individuals.

"This is called unemployment. Now, what happens in the market when goods are at a surplus? The price drops. So the price of labor would just drop to adjust for the surplus... if the minimum wage did not block that adjustment."

But unemployment is not a surplus of labor, it is a lack of jobs I understand what you mean, that well if the price would fall the people that were only willing to work with the given price would not work. Well my point is that due to increased productivity (which does happen) and increased aggregate demand, there would be job growth and expansions.

"How long does that aggregate rise in demand take to materialize? Remember, Fred's clock is ticking, he needs to eat. Are we to sacrifice Fred in the short term for the benefit of the economy in the long term? I thought the minimum wage hike was intended to help the low-end workers; Fred feels screwed. Are we to support Fred in the meantime?"

Good point the time for all of that to happen varies of course. There are so many variables. And you are right about it only being to a certain exent but we have been near full employment (during the 90s) Which is generally characterized as around 4%. Would more people be employed if there was no mininum wage? It is a possible that that is true. Would the economy be as strong? Doubtfull.

bbkane,
i feel like you keep going back to identical arguments, and i imagine you feel like i'm doing the same, so i'm thinking this is my last post on the matter.

my remark on nominal vs. real money.

my point was that it sounded like you didn't know what you were talking about because realistically, no one will ever talk about a raise in minimum wage in real terms. i thought it a pointless question and was unsure as to whether you understood it. since you seem to understand many of the economic concepts you discuss on some level, i think it's safe to assume you know about real vs. nominal variables, but i also felt obligated to let you know how that made you sound; perhaps for future reference in case you end up in other economic debates.

JuJu808…..Well if I can’t kiss the girls to make them cry, at least I can recommend a good movie/book that will do the job ;-) lol. Blowing sad movies and books @ U,lol..Peace

It seems to me that minimum wage jobs are meant as entry level positions. Most jobs requiring any kind of operational or technical skill, pay more than minimum wage. Most of the minimum wage positions are for non-operational or non-technically skilled labor. These positions at one time were traditionally for young people in or right out of high school, who were in transition from high school, working their way thru a technical school or college to learn a skill or training in a specific field or discipline. Upon finishing their education they would move on to the entry level positions in their chosen career. However it seems that there is a group of people who want these entry level positions to pay like career positions, by subjecting businesses with these labor requirements to pay a standard minimum wage. You then have people who DO NOT learn a operational or technical skill and stay in the minimum wage positions and demand more money, when they should pick a career with a higher paying wage and leave the entry level positions for the young who are either finishing or working their way thru school. I for one would like to see a age limit on entry level positions to be exclusive for just the young. Forcing everyone to get a skilled operational or technical education. If this was a policy followed their would be no need for government to force minimum wage standards on employers with entry level positions. The moral of the story is, if you do not further your education to get a operational or technically skilled paying position, you are hurting the economic process by having little or no money to put back into the economy, and you are putting yourself in a lower income class that has only ( from history) complained about what other people have and they have not. Rant, Rant, Rant…………………Clint

Michelle........Read the book first and then rent the movie. Blowing "WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS" @ U, lol ;-)

I'm with Michelle and Tastey: hmmm... let's talk about something else.....how about music?! This place has gotten so heavy and political....zzzzzzzzz. 9 pages of this stuff! Let's turn the page please!

Tastey: Have a great time at the Slaughter show! I miss my friend Timmy Kelly! I think of him often! :( If you ever talk to any of the band You can tell them you know Mari who grew up with him, I'm from Yardley, Pa. They joke about it in that song ...can't think of the name. I'm listening to Velvet Revolver and I'm not impressed. 1st listen and nothing I've heard so far has grabbed me. The lineup is impressive but the music is uninspiring. IMO. No desire to see them now. Much hype but I'm not rockin!! I'm bummed!

Michelle: No, I didn't listen to your good advice...kick me! I will in the future! I haven't done that mistake in a long time!

Instead of "Texas Flood" it should be Newtown, PA Flood! Will this rain ever stop?! According to the weatherman not until sometime after the weekend! The entire East Coast is in for a soaker!! Get your rubbers out...;)) umbrella too! (if you go out) hehe!

did anyone read what Vai said on his site about Fripp? sounds like hes sick of stupid people in the audience booing him.... and he said g3 can go on without him .... I hope that the audience doesnt ruin something so great. I dislike Malmsteen and I saw him at G3...I didnt boo him though. I dont see people can be upset, even if they dont like Fripp...They're seeing 2 of the best guitarists in the world! I also heard Fripp is really good. I cant find any of his stuff in cd stores though.

JS JS....in my opinion the 80's were so different from the 90's that they can't even be compared with each other. I personally prefer the 80's music ;)

Jazzy.....thanks for the offer...but unfortunately the closest Guitar Center to me is three and a half hours away. And that would be the Minneapolis/St. Paul store....I can't remember which of the two cities it's in. And yes... the Edina Guitar Center is much better than the other one....I stopped in there the day after I saw Joe play at the Medina Entertainment Center on his SBM tour. I only get to visit Guitar Center about once every two or three years...lol !

Hey...Hey...the big 8-0-0 for me......Booo-ya !!!

hey people

juju: thanks for the great advice. I am not very good with confronting women, but I will have to do it some time with her. Really how do women take gestures of politeness? I walked 3 miles to pick her up from work at 2:00 in the morning when she got off. I take care of her whenever she falls sick, gets injured or is in her bad mood (pms) and what I get is heartbreak which leads to a very sick feeling. Do girls really understand when us guys give them signs? i really love her, but i am confused at the same time.

alexandre: great advice bro. I felt very refreshed when you said to do the right things and see how things work out. I hope I am doing it right. But it feels defeating and brings me down. Hope you have a great weekend!

flagg: women are the devil....lol! they can be angels and devils i guess.

dragonchild: my greatest problem is figuring out intentions. I cannot read them well enough. One thing though, everytime I play the hard to get, she comes down running. Its great. But then I hate it when she plays that. I am not sure what its about. I cannot understand.

suppadave: Is virginia really that from TC's? Are you going to see the DP/JS/TL concert at Xcel?

926: OKay, here's the setup I have. I run out of the speaker jack into a Hughes and Kettner Red Box Pro, then into an Aardvark Q10 wich is the A to D converter. It acts as the sound card and records at 24it 96khz. It allows me to record 8 inputs to 8 tracks simultaeously, and has dedicated preamps for direct bass/guitar. It sounds really warm and translates the tones in a "what you here is what you get" way. A lot of other digital stuff makes things cold or processsed. Then, I use Sonic Foundry Vegas as he recording/mixing program. If all you want is to be able to record instruments (no midi) it is the program. In addition, it sounds great, has no track limitations, and can be easily understoud in 15 min. without cracking a manual. I've actually had over 20 tracks open, with each track having 3 plugins activated. This is taxing, and te program responds great. I use Sonic Foudry Sound Forge to master the track and down sample it to 16bit 44.1khz so it can be played on a cd player. Okay....woo, that was way more info than you wanted...I'm an ass. Later!
