Clarky's Theory Posse is in de house!!!! - Cheers Paul. I had a good read and, I have to say, it went straight over my head but I am going to have a few reads of it and see if I can make sense of it. If I cant I will shout.....

Yoda - Cheers for finding those for me. I did have a look but all I got was a load of bollox come up on the search results and then I had to go out. I am planning on getting off my arse and learning them all and then using them in some sort of context. Thanks again....

Mikey - the tricky parts to that lick are timing and transition.. personally I found holding the timing solid during such a long sweep to be the trickiest element.. the greatest temptation is to rush the sweep.. holding back feels un-natural at first.. so think time... think of 1/16 notes in groups of fours...

uf - funny.. my wife thinks I'm a mofo too... lol
Zen - I agree.. it would be a great shame if EVH can't cut it anymore... a great loss..

EVH marked a massive leap for me... he changed my whole approach... someone I used to [and still do] greatly admire..

stace - I wonder if the really hairy spiders are German? lol

pher - o - mones... uuuurrrrrrghhhhh.... lol... [a lil' Homer moment there.. lol]

dck - cool... imagine going on stage... no guitar or amp... just a whammie pedal... lol... awesome man...
Adrian - i hope that time passes fast.. I'm looking forward to the next wife... I think this one will be awesome... lol..
michelle - funny as fuck girlie...
yoda - like any dom7... it depends upon the setting.. you have quite a few options... harm, mel min, mixo... think about the overall tonality and where comes from and where it resolves to... in the chorus of the Rape I think I was using F over the C7... given the resolution to Em the F is a b9th.... nice tension... to be sure I'll check... you never can tell with them Clarkys... they does some strange stuff they does...

TABS ARE THE DEVIL figure it out by ear! figuring out songs by ear is one of the things that people overlook but is one of the most important things they should learn.

If its any help though, It goes G, B, C, B, G for the opening then it goes to E err something, figure it out by ear its so useful

5 things i think i think about EVH:

1 - i think EVH has some deep set psychological issues, perhaps counseling may help

2 - i think EVH is too emotionally sensitive, some may say unstable

3 - i think EVH will never join G3, it's not his cup of tea, he doesnt have the same perspective on guitar playing joe & steve have

4 - i think EVH was undoubtedly the most awesome guitarist of the late late 70's early 80's

5 - i think EVH has lost "it"

Hi everyone!.......Phew,I made it back home safe & sound again:)..I am sure getting tired of driving from Maryland to Florida.......to & fro,to & fro,to & fro...........Good thing I brought my Joe & Dream Theater cd's along for the ride.

Michelle:
*Huggs*....thanks for responding to my post last week deary.I have been gone for a while but did manage to catch up on T2j.I was so paranoid about driving this time.I just took it "slow & easy"......"I like the rain" was sooooo fitting for the ride home.I was in the rain & wind the whole way almost.

Ovation:How's it hangin' brotha?

Mari:

Julie, Eva, Tony, Delfino, Clint, SupaaDave, Civgeek, Mikey, UF Dean - thanks for the congrats on the car :)

Civgeek, I meant shishi as in lion, not shishi as in peepee. lmao! I should stick to Engrish. lol!

Mikey, still undecided on a name for the car. We have to bond a bit more. I think for the moment it's name is Dude because every time I find something new or cool, it's the first thing I say. lmao!

Alexandre, hope you're feeling better and the antibiotics work quickly. Don't take them on an empty stomach because they'll make you feel bad. Drink lots of water too. Feel better hon!

Adrián, Congratulations! Aug. 14th is a beautiful day! It's my husbands birthday that day too. I wish you a beautiful day, and a long and happy marriage!

I have one word for all these escape spider stories...RAID!!! Get some bug spray people!!!

SupaaDave, when is baby-bean due? lol!

Mari, damn, still not feeling good! Is this the same ongoing thing or something different. Scary stuff indeed. Hope your feeling better and all is well. Cyber hugs to my Satriani sister. My oldest sis has been sick for 5 weeks now. She's been to the hospital 3X. They finally figured out that she has a bacterial infection. She goes to a lot of pow-wows and must have drank some bad water somewhere. She started her antibiotics today. Hopefully she'll feel better soon and be able to spend time in a room besides the bathroom.

Clarky, it was funny as fuck, wasn't it. LOL!

Jblaze, slow & easy is the only way to go :) We were getting hammered by the rain all week here, but it's finally let up a bit. Floods out the wazoo around here. Philly was hit wicked hard, as well as Camden county in NJ. A few miles from here in Birdsboro they got hit with so much rain it washed roads away and flooded the whole town. S'up wit dat? When it's raining an inch an hour - um no, I don't like the rain. lol!

hey, dude the easiest thing might be to just follow the chords in the begining and building it from that. Its pretty easy. Didnt mean to come off sounding like an butt-hole, I just think people whould always try to learn everything by ear.

JS JS - If you have AIM, you can send the file to me that way. There are a number of other things you can do...if you don't have a website to host it, I could even upload it for you so everyone here can listen to it. Ask me again once you've recorded it and we can figure something out...

JS Clone 2 - "I guess I'll bring my gig bag and pad the guitar like crazy with shirts and stuff."

It's also a good idea to drop the strings about a whole step so they don't break...I forgot to mention that earlier.

"I had no idea you are Nitsua111!"

Yeah, that's me...Nitsua111 / ALewis525 / It is Stu Not Boo / Serak The Preparer / Do The Stu... I think those are all of my nicknames.

I don't own a red JS 100, though. My brother has a green Squire Strat...that's as close as it gets, LOL. I have two basses...a black Washburn and a sapphire Fender Stu Hamm Urge II.

marimariSRV - Wow...it's good to hear that your trip to the ER wasn't anything serious.

Yeah, you're right...that was a line from Aerosmith's Amazing. That was the song that got me hooked on the band, actually...

Have fun at the Rush concert. Have you seen them before? I saw them for the first time last month...they blew me away.

OCPS470 - Thanks for sharing those pictures. Your guitar is absolutely beautiful...

Clarky: Hairy Spiders, German? No, but they hide in the arm pits of german women haha! Don't anybody give me crap about that joke, I'm over 60% German...my dad's from there.

Mowlie - Well, I didn't really find them as much as come up with them for the shapes I already knew... lol. Some people just call the seventh mode of Harmonic minor "mode 7" because of it's weird spelling but, me being me (ie. an ass... lol) decided that it needed a real name. I figured that it's exactly the same as the altered scale but with a bb7, and that a dim7 chord has a bb7. So that kinda stuck... lol

The vast majority of those modes aren't entirely useful, unless you specifically shoe-horn them in somewhere.

The most useful ones from the Melodic minor are:

Lydian Augmented: great on a maj7+ chord
Lydian Dominant: great on a non-functioning V7 chord.
Mixolydian b6: As above, but it's just a really nice scale too...
Locrian nat. 2: Great on a m7b5 chord
Altered scale: Perfect on the V7 in a maj ii - V7 - I.

And from the Harmonic minor:

Dorian #4: Great on a m7 chord - a bit of extra 'spice'
Phrygian Dominant: Perfect on the V7 in a min ii - V7 - i.
Diminished Altered: Great on a dim7 chord.

However, it always depends on the context of a chord. Sometimes a certain scale choice will sound quite odd due to it's surroundings. For example, using a German 6th chord as an example (you don't need to really understand that concept for this...), you could in theory use Lydian Dominant on it, because it is essentially a V7 chord that doesn't resolve to it's I. But, since the German 6th is a Classical concept, Lydian Dominant won't work too well stylistically, because it's a very Jazzy approach.

Have fun screwing with them though!

Clarky - Okay, thanks. I'll try that too...

Injector - EVH is the one and only Eddie Van Halen!!!

Hy everyone on Planet Satriania, hope you´re all ok, like always just a few minutes......

injector-Have you ever seen Star Trek? The BORG are the ones that are half human and half machines (machine zombies), that tell the people they have arrested "You´re assimilated", and then they assimilate them. They only live for their "collective" and really seem to have no feelings.
So I think (and I hope I´m right) Joe named the song BORG SEX ´cause it must be a weird thing that such creatures have sex, just imagine :-}
yes, fantasy is a wonderful thing......

And GNAAHH: Good question what that means, must it have a meaning? At the listening party Joe tells that the title comes from the indescribable feeling he had when he wrote the song, so it seems like sometimes songs have the name of a feeling........

Hope I could help,
have a nice day everyone (beautiful blue sky in Vienna today again) ......... tune ;-)
