Artanis I yeah, it sucks. some thing got messed up with his schedule so I get my next one free. that is cool, but who knows when I can get there again. oh well, thats life I guess.
Delfino Pie I am not a freat guitarist and not a teacher but I think it is a comfort thing. my teacher says that it is good practice to use one finger per fret space so it would be right to use your pinky. but he also says that really do whatever is comfortable and easy.

962: Have you heard (or seen) Joe Bonamassa play? If not, think Gary Moore, meets SRV, meets Jimi..., but still original. Just SMOKIN' hot blues/rock!!! He just came out with a new CD yesterday, "Had To Cry Today" (after the Blind Faith classic). This guy is the next "overnight" success story. Check out this CD, it's UNbelievable!!!

Joeman9 & JS_JS Hmm thought so...even if it was considered "wrong" I would've continued playing that way, it just feels right to me..., currently I am working on tapping, I'm gonna' start out with learning something like "Midnight" by our good friend Joe.
Hmm only 3 days left on that USA custom Ibanez on Ebay...if anyone wants to buy it as a present for me, I would very much appreciate it lol. Its the one with the lizard paint job, and has a $759.99 "buy now" price...
Cheers

...far too late for me to be up, but anyways..... the way I see it, in your "conventional" guitar playing you have up to four fingers on the neck... to not use your pinky means you're depriving yourself of 25% of your potential....
ok... na night... dave

Was talking about this the other day . . .
Anybody remember New Coke (Coke II) and the flop that happened when it "replaced" what is now Coke Classic?
I liked Coke II (not to be confused with the new C2 low calorie pop). It was sweet like Pepsi.
Does anybody see it on their store shelves still? If so, where?
My son would like to try it, but I think they stopped making it - but not sure.

Speaking of pop
anybody else try the new Mountain Dew - Pitch Black?
It is grape flavored - not too bad. It is only supposed to be around until Halloween - limited edition.
Do the Stu - since if memory serves correct, you used to drink Mountain Dew, you might want to try this grape version. It is kinda like Grape Crush.
Ok - enough pop for today.

Would anyone here be interested in joining a Satch fantasy football league (American football)?
I think I asked about this a few months ago and one or two people said they would be into it. I can get a free league going at Yahoo if enough people want to play.
I'd say we'd need a minimum of 6 or 8 people. I guess the only requirement is that you stick with your team for the entire season...it isn't fun when people drop out halfway through.
You don't even need to live in the US to play, as long as you understand the basic rules of American football and are willing to spend a few minutes once a week making updates to your team. You can even have the computer draft your team for you...
Yahoo will calculate all of the stats, keep track of the schedules, and so on. All you need to do is manage your team.
Well, what do people here think? Does this sound fun? Yes or no...?
...Austin...

I saw Joe in Milwaukee Monday Night. It was the second time that I got the chance to see him and he ROCKED!
There wasn't many people there, and it was cold. But they opened up the lower seats and we all got up close and personal with the man. I introduced new fans to Joe, they just loved his range from blues to techno to clasic Joe.
He ended the show with my fav. Flying in a Blue Dream.

DelfinoPie: good to hear man! To give you a point of reference, I expected my custom guitar to be great, but I didn't think it would replace my trusty modded up S470, but my Ibanez has been a nice peice of wall art for the last 3 weeks. It's crazy, but peter's guitar makes the S series feel uncomfortable by comparison (a tough feat indeed). Thanks for checking out his work!
Jazzy: that's good to hear. Although some self destructive part of me wanted to hear Joe say "yeah, the cd is great for keeping those coffee mug rings off of the table...except for that stupid hole in the middle" haha!

DELFINO - I think the answer would depend on where you were headed after the second line, the tempo, and the feel of of the song. If it's a fast lick and continuing up I would use the ring finger. Other wise I'd use the pinky. Also, if it fit the style I might slide from 3-5 and hit 6 w/ my index. It all depends on the context.

Hey joe im new,
I need advise, I have been a solo guitarist for some time and can never keep a band together. I now want to do something like you but no one will sponser me or sign me to a label. How should I go about finding a label. I now live in Ravenna Michigan , which is basicly in the middle of nowhere . So its hard to get heard! I have had experence playing guitar since the age of 12 and im now 17. I play alot of van halen, ozzy when he had randy rhoads, and my own stuff mostly. I just need an opportunity to be heard!
Thank you,
Thomi the little guitarist!
Ps:Im sorry if you hear this alot but I can play!

In most instances which finger to use in such a case would be a matter of comfort, as there would be no difference in sound: the string doesn't know which fingertip is touching it, and thus will make the same sound either way so long as the guitarist plays the note in exactly the same manner.
It really is a matter of preference. I myself have small hands (for a guitarist) and would probably, rather than sliding from the 3rd to 5th fret, play the 3rd fret and then the open string below it, and then the first fret on that string, simply because it is easier than stretching my fingers from the 3rd to 5th to 6th on that one string.
On the other hand this would produce a slightly different sound (as open strings always do) and I might prefer to slide up from the 3rd to 5th fret, which would produce a slightly different sound than if I simply hammered on to the aforementioned fret.
But if its a matter of fingertips touching strings it really makes no difference in the sound ... no reason anyone should jump on the 'ring finger bandwagon' if they're more comfortable using their little finger. Besides, it leaves that ring finger open for something else... and vice-versa. =)
I liked the 25% remark... it's true, as with typing, one should try to utilize every finger on that fretboard.
Then again, I only type with four fingers... so... um. Shh.

That's funny. I'm 17 and a solo guitarist, too.
I don't have a band either... but I'm not looking for one just yet.
Not like many peers are into the whole instrumental rock thing anyway. It's all about 'hardcore' music and 'emo' now.
Anyway, I'm in no rush.
