Anybody else see the new Prince video? Kinda shocked me the first time i saw it - here is an article about it

Prince is once again stirring up some controversy. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is generating debate with a new music video depicting an Arab-American teenage girl imagining herself as a suicide bomber.

The "Cinnamon Girl" video — created mostly in the Twin Cities and released to music television channels this week — has been criticized on Fox News and CNN.

"Prince intended for it to spark some dialogue," said the video's director, Phil Harder, of Minneapolis-based Harder-Fuller Films.

The clip features Keisha Castle-Hughes, 14, the Oscar-nominated actress from the movie "Whale Rider." She plays a schoolgirl who witnesses a terrorist attack and then experiences racism from classmates and others. The racism pushes her to dream about carrying a bomb into an airport.

"Cinnamon Girl of mixed heritage, never knew the meaning of color lines," Prince sings. "9/11 turned that all around, when she got accused of this crime."

Prince will not comment on the clip because he prefers that people make up their own mind, his publicist said.

Representatives for MTV, VH1 and BET channels said their programmers were aware of the clip's content. MTV plans to begin airing it next week on MTVU, its universities-only channel, to gauge the reaction of viewers. VH1 and BET are undecided.

Rana Abbas, deputy director of the Midwest chapter of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Dearborn, Mich., voiced her support after seeing the video Thursday.

"It was shocking, but in a good way," Abbas said. "Prince is the first major recording artist to address the prejudice and issues that (Arab-Americans) are facing after 9/11, and I think he has done it in a very powerful way."

The New York Post said it "might be the most tasteless video ever." Fox News commentator John Gibson suggested that Prince is "causing trouble," and CNN anchor Kyra Phillips said it is "shaking and rumbling the entertainment industry."

Rolling Stone magazine music editor Joe Levy said the video should be put in context, and the song says that Arab-Americans were victims of hate after Sept. 11, 2001.

Harder said the lyrics show Prince is "sincere in wanting to speak to the times." He also emphasized that the video "resolves itself peacefully."

Any takers?

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - More men are willing to have sex with their bosses to get a promotion or a salary increase than women, a Belgian human resources weekly said on Friday.

According to the Vacature poll -- based on 12,078 Belgians interviewed -- 12 percent of all men would be willing to sleep with their boss to try to advance their career, compared to only 1 percent of women.

The survey did not reveal how many said they actually had sex with their bosses. It showed that 22 percent of males often fantasize about having sex with one of their colleagues, compared to 7 percent of women.

michelle, awesome, Joe played Hordes Of Locusts! It sounds like a cracking show, and I hear you on Jeff, he's ace. I love watchin Jeff playing, he always looks really happy and really into it. I was really pleased that he was one of the guys I got to talk with after G3 earlier this year, he's a really cool guy, really modest and intuitive.

Delfino, absolutely, yeah he teaches five days a week in two private schools, and sees a different kid every half hour. He is an excellent teacher, I wish I could take lessons from him, but he doesn't teach privately any more cause he doesn't need to with the in-school work.

By the way, did you know that Andy Timmons is playing at PMT next wednesday? You'd better f*ck*n go! hehe. j/k, since it's a wednesday you may well miss it cause of school, unless it's in the evening!

As we prepare for Halloween 2004, it is interesting to recall this foto of YJM in his 2003 Halloween get-up. "Fury" King of Rock'n'Roll. The foto was taken at Bucketheads house before YJM and Bucket headed out on the trick-or-treat trail..

Continued thanks to Austin for hosting this nonsense on his personal site!!!!

Civgeek, it's just a slight glitch in the program. My knees have always been sensitive (insert extreme growing pains as a kid). It was about 20 years ago. I wish they would have done something back then so the tendon would have tightened up. Oh well, whataya gunna do? I still like to sit on the floor, but I sure don't spring up like I used to. lol! That's another thing about Joe - he's in fantastic shape! Maybe we should switch to green tea like Joe did? lol!

Man I'm tired and I have to go to work in an hour.

Mikesb, thanks. I'm awake now *shivers* BLEH!! lol!

The very fact that you pass judgement on people who like to get "high, toasted and laid"

why is that any worse than you passing judgment on him for not wanting to be that type of person?

jblaze1 - "This may be a silly request but I was wondering if you would consider putting a "Member Since (00/00/00)""

That's a good idea...it'd be cool if Jon can add it...

jazzzzzzzy - "Michael Moore did piece together various clips. But that doesnt mean its out of context. Michael Moore is a fantastic editor and narrator. I think he pieced everything together in a logical fashion."

He starts showing video of one speech (video of someone talking), shows video and pictures of something else so he can splice in words from another speech, and then go back to video of the first someone talking (but at another part of the speech) to make it look like the whole thing was one continuious speech.

How is that still in context?

michelle - "I think Jeff's playing improves with every tour too."

I agree... Jeff is better and better each time I see him.

SolidAcid - "I did hear the song on the Satch Tapes DVD right before the music video for Summer Song started. Anyone have that nights set list or know what song I am talking about?"

I'll watch that part of the DVD later today and let you know...

The "Mary" you're looking for is probably "marimariSRV" here on T2J.

Jared Presley - "CNN and Fox News is no comparrison."

All of the cable news stations have are slanted in one way or another.

Countering an argument that happens to go against the left (my Michael Moore argument) with one against the right (the Fox News thing) doesn't mean anything to me. My reasons for not liking Michael Moore have nothing to do with him being a Democrat and me possibly being a Republican (because I'm not a Republican).

DawnW - Welcome to the site.
mikesb - LOL...I had just finally pushed that image out of my head, and you went and posted it again. ;-)

...Austin...

Joe: when you go play phoenix at the end of the year, is it possible that you will not have the stage rotate. I hope so. It would make me feel like I am watching Tom Jones (though he is good in his own right) or something. What do you think bro, could you do the 2/3 house choice with no rotating stage

Welcome to the site - not sure what Joe's plans are right now.

I would imagine eventually he will come to the land down under.

Where are you located there - my wife used to live near Brisbane (spelling may be off)

Just wanted to put a plug in for UFO. I saw them in Chicago this weekend and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. If you didn't know it, Vinnie Moore is their new lead guitar player, and Jason Bonham is on drums. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with the opportunity. I'm a big fan of Vinnie's and Micheal Schencker and I can tell you that you won't miss Micheal in their current lineup.

Jared Prez: Hey, Jared! Good to hear from you! I've been really busy too! We'll catch up soon. I'm glad you're getting to see Joe! They will leave you amazed! I saw him last night and again sat nite in NY! Talk to you soon

JustJack: I saw UFO in NYC 10/1 and Vinnie Moore and the rest of the Band were just great! They have Barry Sparks on Bass! He was great! He's played with Dokken, Yngwie, Schenker, Uli Roth. I can't wait to see them again as long as Vinnie is with them.

Here's the setlist from the Keswick, which was the setlist from Orlando 10/8 also. There may have been 1 or 2 changes at the Keswick. My friend says Joe played One Big rush and I didn't know that song. There were a few he played that I don't kow real well but he said those names. I don't think he played One Big Rush. Michelle, did he? I'll see sat nite. let you know about it.

Thanx dude:)....I thought that showing that information would encourage newcommers to hang around & come back more often.Especially if they see that other members come here frequently & are here for the long haul.If I was a new member browsing the posts and saw that someone had been here for 4 years,I would be more inclined to come back as a regular or an irregular in my case...lol...
