Satch~ I have been a huge fan for several years. I missed you and the band last month when you came to Austin, TX with Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple. I'm already waiting for your next apperence here at the end of the month at the University of Texas Performing Arts Center. My brother lives in San Fran and saw the show. He said it was great, but of coarse considering the line-up, you only played about forty-five minutes. Anyway, this will be the first time that I see you in concert and I cannot stop talking about it. All of my favorite songs are somewhat new, but all the older tunes I know are just as great. The collection of tunes that you and the band have put together are extordinary, but the one tune that always gives me chills is "TIME". I first heard the tune when I was picking up my brother from the airport at DFW. He threw it on, and it caught my attention quick, and I said to him, "That has to be Satch". Since then, the song has reminded me of my brother and I. We are huge music people and enjoy great music from the heart. I put the song on periodically to remind me of my bro because he is always with me mentally, but hundreds of miles away. Sometimes songs make you feel like everything will be alright, and things will always turn around. They let you know that a smile on your face is always better then a nasty scowl. This song has meant more to me in music then hearing my first compact disc when I was just a naive little punk kid. Thanks for great music! I look forward to hearing you on the 30th, and I hope you, campitelli, stu, and everyone else have great shows, and stay safe along the way.

Thanks, AGS

Hey all. Been doing a lot of work this week, hence the no-posts. I skipped a few pages from the other day and also a few from the weekend.

We had our federal election on Saturday, and the same party got back in with a healthier majority. I'll won't push my opinions on the result on anyone, but may I say that I wasn't surprised at the result at all.

So I have heard enough political commentary for a while thank you!

Bahduh: you around? This second test is looking to be a bit of a turnaround from the last one!

funk311: cool story. Thanks for sharing that with us. It is an awesome song I know!!!

To all: I filled in on drums for some friends on Sunday night. I had to learn 6 songs I had never heard until 4 days beforehand. Turned out pretty good. "I liked the intro you did for that song, the one that was like ... " (The one I changed to make it sound tougher.) Pretty happy with that. Hopefully the guy I stood in for recovers from his "injury" as he was walking rather awkwardly.

OCPS: Thats fantastic that you are a "strong practicing catholic"! So are millions of other people! If you think you are by any chance a more gifted & much smarter than the average "college kid" just because of your strong Catholic faith, I would have to say it is safe to abandon your faith because arrogance in Christianity is scorned. According to my ideals, I believe you are a Catholic only for reputation and prestige. I dont see it as anything more than a tag saying "Hey! Look! I am Catholic! God loves me! God doesnt love you!" The very fact that you pass judgement on people who like to get "high, toasted and laid" (which for some odd reason could be 80% of the world???) lets me assume that your faith has been scarred by what society expects you to worship, not what you truly believe using your own moral rationality.

I do not see any crime in having harmless fun whether it is getting "high, toasted AND laid." In fact, I have learnt (and still learning) more about myself by exploring new grounds. If you (in your self righteous world) think that you are a better person than I am only because you dont seem to be indulging in some of the things I do, then good. Good for you! You dont have to go around preaching unless flaunting is a hobby of yours.

I have been to college. I graduated with honors in Econ and Math. I have seen 600 kids graduate (and several of them graduated with honors). I dont remember myself as the only one partying (and trying to hook up with chicks). And You have the audacity to prove yourself "better" than them all when you havent even met them???

Now, I dont know who you are. I would say this the exact same thing to anyone who comes off to me as arrogant and self righteous by waving their faith. If you find strength in Catholicism, thats fantastic! There are a million ways to find strength, btw.

In case you didnt know, I was born and raised Catholic too. I still am Catholic and always will be. I do find strength in Faith and Prayer. But I do not let institution dictate my life. I search for it myself.

Just got in from the show. Man o' man o' man was it killer!!! Every time I see Joe I think it's the best show yet, and folks, this was the best show yet! lol! They played PSYCHO MONKEY!! Also, wait till you hear AWM,AWY. It's a few minutes longer and it's the best version I've ever heard! Awesome, awesome show. Joe looked HOT in his jeans, black tee, red glasses with guitar to match, and NO hat!! I LOVE seeing Joe's bald head! lol! He was ON FIRE and the whole band was fantastic. I love the extra sound Galen adds to the band.

JOE, you were awesome! Wish we had more time. Hope you weren't to late for your meeting. Always remember - You've Got A Friend In Pennsylvania :) lol!

Joe first played that version of Always... on the tour with Deep Purple (maybe he did it on the G3 2004 tour, too). It's awesome.

Do you remember if Joe played The Traveler?

michelle: did joe play lights of heaven and starry night? what about crushing day and new blues? and crying? and what breaks a heart? and secret prayer? and power cosmic? and forgotten part 2? and badger badger badger?

do the stu: Michael Moore did piece together various clips. But that doesnt mean its out of context. Michael Moore is a fantastic editor and narrator. I think he pieced everything together in a logical fashion. I do not think Bush fixed the election. He does not have the mental capacity!

Wouldnt a G3 with Hendrix, Rhoades and Stevie Ray be great? Man, whoo!

Man oh man has it been a while. Way too many posts to catch up on... Right on!

So how the hell is everyone? Man I miss this place... and Joe for that matter. San Diego sends their best Joe & Co.! Can't wait to catch the 12/28 show at 4th & B!!!

Anyway, if any San Diego area TJ2er's want to check out a cool show this evening (10/15/04), I'll be Canes in Mission Beach opening for The ATOMIC PUNKS, a smokin' nationally touring Van Halen tribute group. All the info is listed off my website, so if anyone is interested, drop me a line ASAP as I might be able put you on my guest list. Anything for a fellow Satriani fan!

Off to read the posts I've missed (or at least attempt to read some of them).

jblaze - I've definately seen some weird shit on tour.. well not so much 'seen' as been in the middle of... lol...
but a rat trap kick pedal is a new one on me.. lmao..

Yoda - if you're after a cheaper option look in LOOT.. that's where I got my 8008.. got it cheap too..

so has your girlie singer left the band??
when / why did that happen?

Jazzy - interesting stuff the moon landing thing.... there's plenty of evidence pointing at it being staged...

even if the moon landing did take place, many of the photographs have been seriously doctored or shot in a studio

Suzie - I love Malmsteen... all that throwing guitars around... don't bother me at all.. Vai does all that to... don't forget, when you go to a gig you go to see the guy as well as hear him.. he's just putting on a show in the good old R'n'R tradition
look at Hendrix... widely regarded as the Great Grand Father of rock guitar... he was partial to breaking and burning guitars too....
never forget....
being a rock / metal musician is as much about the attitude as the music itself.....
the funny thing is that Malm tries to sell himself as being a classical-head... and then creates something called "Concerto Suite For Electric Guitar"... lmao...

a conterto is a work for a solo instrument accompanied by an orchestra to show the technical and emotional prowess of the soloist.. in Baroque period Italian form, it contains 3 movements [a fast one, a slow one and another fast one].. in the 19th century [as with symphonies] one or two additional movements were added]..

a suite is a set of 5 dances with a prelude at the beginning [6 works in all].. the form, time signature and tempo of each of the dances are very different to a concerto.. when you write a suite the first work is most often a prelude, the next four work can be anything you like [and there are a ton of different dances to choose from... most common are: minuet, sarabande, allemande, gigue, bouret], the final part is most often the Gigue

so... saying Concerto Suite is like saying 'horse truck'... yes a horse and a truck are both methods of transport... but together it just makes no sense...

Malmsteen... great player... not as bright as he thinks he is...
and I love 'im..... lmao...

Zinc Master, oh you should see Texas Chainsaw.......it's definitely a comedy! haha. I've only seen the original, but it cracked me up, it was so lame. The second half of the film consisted simply of a woman running around screaming wildly!

Suzie, I will say, I do like the sound of some of Yngwies music, especially the slow bits! I just can't hack seeing someone smash a guitar. It's a really childish, pathetic thing to do and Joe and Steve are both quite sophisticated. I would have been embarrassed, but yeah, they all still showed each other a lot of respect!

In the time it's taken you to read that, you could have been ordering a copy of G3 96 with EJ! Get to it! hehe. Seriously tho, i'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Delfino, no absolutely not. I have a good friend who is a bass/guitar teacher and he is beyond grade 8 with a decent music career behind him, but he doesn't have a single grade cirtificate. All you need is to be able to inspire someone and teach them to be able to do what they want to do!
Jared, I think it was very smart to have YJM on the G3 tour, cause he's probably a bigger name than Satch and Vai. It was a great catalyst for marketing and the release of the CD and especially the DVD got some really good exposure at the right time.

On that basis, I would suggest to Joe that for even more exposure and recognition by the general public, get somebody like Slash on board! I woulnd't mind seeing that actually, Slash is allright!

michelle, good to hear you enjoyed the show! Did joe play a lot of the new stuff? What did you think of it live?
jelly man, haha, yeah very predictable, but the guitar is great, so it's all good. One thing that i'm curious about though.....who the f*ck are SID Guitar Strings? They're made in the sunny USA aparrently. It's an ass, cause I got 4 packs of the bastards, and no use for them, cause I use D'addarios! Oh well, can't have it all!

Yoda - I think my next album needs to be called something like:

Concerto Fantasia Suite Symphony Tone-Poem Sonata in h for 7-string guitar

roflmfao

optical - I don't know about the amps and cabs you've listed... I mean I've heard of them, read reviews etc... but never messed with them so I can't really form an opinion...

a pal of mine has the 5150.. I've not heard it yet.. but he's raving about it.. says he loves it...

I don't use the channels switching stuff any more [I used to though].. because now I use rack stuff... so in songs I switch patches to call up different settings... that's what works for me...

so my amp is clean and loud and stereo.... it gets turned up and left alone... lmao..

ocps, cuthbert, jazzy - how about this.... the only guys that are allowed to vote are all those people that the Prez likes and thinks are clever enough to hold such a responcibility.. lmao..
962 - when the women were running around screeming wildly were they wearing anything or nekid??

Clarky - That's one snappy title! LOL. Zoe was fired, but she kind of knew it ws going to happen - if we didn't fire her she probably would have left eventually, so we decided to make it sooner rather than later so as not to waste any time. Basically, she wasn't really into our stuff anymore. She was saying things like "we should write some short songs with less solos so that we're more commercially viable and we can radio play", and even though she had a point we're just not that kind of band. We just write, and if it ends up long and full of solos then that's the way it is. Plus, everyone I've spoken to has said that she doesn't suit our music too well - her voice isn't powerful enough, etc. etc. We're still friends and she understood, but it's still a bit of a pain in the arse. Nevermind...

By the way, I went to the Carvin website and found the TS100 power amp which sounds really good. Nevada Music sell it for £449, which is affordable, and it's 100% chrome on the front!!!! BLING!!!!! lmao. That would look so cool...

Clarky: lmao! I think even if we landed on the moon, it looked like such a shithole that we needed some help from hollywood. Speaking of shithole, where did the astronauts take their dump?

As for Yngwie's new music...he was saying he's got around 20 new ideas for his new album.

1) play fast 2) play super fast 3) play fast with tounge 4) add classical guitar and play fast 5) play classical acoustic slow, then add fast parts....20) play fast drunk

I guess.

Name album: Opus Concerto fucktart

Yoda - I see where you're coming from with female vox... at first I thought a girlie voice a little unusual too given the nature of the riffing...but I personally was ok with it.. unusual is not always bad...

commercial commercial commercial.... lol... been there... had that debate...
and lost it many times...

being a compositional purest...
I've always considered playing covers a big no no...
if you can write, why play anothers music..

I've always considered writing to my taste and no one elses as "the way"
if no one likes it - so what...
if people do like it - cool...

I dabbled with commercial stuff for a while..
not much fun.. and I don't have the 'look' for it...
in the words of Arnold Schwartzernichtescheissenegger:
"Clarky, you are ugly mutha"

so... I have staunchly chosen to be original, unfashionable, non-conformist
and pure undiluted me......

which is most likely why I am an engineer and not a pro muso.. lmao..

jazy - wow... so the moon really looks like Kansas then???
well no wonder Hollywood took over to tidy things up... lol

now be really honest... Malm is not quite that one dimmensional....
because he can play really really very fast too... lmao..

Opus Fucktart sounds like a chick from a German sheisse movie... eeeeuuuwww

modified lyrics of the day: "Giant steps are what you take.. walking on the erm.. errr.. Kansas"

962 - sorry bro... movies where the girlies are clothed all the way through are not for me...
even if they do contain lots of violence...

I'll give that one a miss... lol..

Austin, Jazzy, Mari has a setlist. I'm sure she'll post it when she has time. She had to work today, so be patient.

962, dude, Joe played new and old - all the way back to Hordes of Locusts from NOTE. That put a smile on a lot of faces. What did I think of it live? OMG it was awesome! Joe was on fire. He certainly put some stank on it last night, as did the rest of the band. I seriously think this was one of the best shows ever. I think Jeff's playing improves with every tour too. I always thought he was a great drummer, but he's throwin' down some shit now! (that's a good thing, not a bad thing) lol! I watched him as much as I watched Joe. Mr Bighead 2 rows in front of me was blocking out Matt and/or Galen most of the night, but it could have been worse so I'm not complaining. Galen really fills in the songs, and Matt is dead-on with the backbeat. He's fun to watch too. It was a killer show!

Kudos to the big guy in the center section about 1/4 of the way back, who's dancing reminded me of the dude in Joe's Sony commercial. lol! He was fun to watch.

I said many prayers of gratitude throughout the night. Thank ya Jesus! lol! It was a great night :)

Clarky, very well stated re "Malm". I personally love the man for his single minded take it or leave it approach to everything. I reiterate that unfortunately after his first couple of releases there was really no where left to go in his genre, he needed to change or regrettably, go stale. YJM obviously chose the latter.

Still, he IS a legend. Too bad that legend status is sooooo inflated in his own mind.

3. It is important to find a man you can count on and doesn't lie to you.

4. It is important that a man loves you and spoils you.
