I can't believe the quality of that Dream Theater DVD.It sounds so fucking killer. It blows away Metropolis 2000 DVD by far & was only $18.00.I can't wait to watch it again.
It was kuul of them to add film of their pre-gig practice sessions. It reminded me of when I had a band for 7 years on Long Island,NY. back in the 80's just like them.I may have even played in some out of the way places that they played way before they got big.It was hard work...

The best part was when Portnoy(The Camel) brought 2 people down to the stage to play along with him on his drum solo.I wish Joe would do something like that for some lucky bystander..lol...

Any luck with my plate?....

Nick - I personally have never tried the Vox fx rack stuff, but a pal of mine here at work has and he really rates it...

if you approach [like mine] is "sod the masses" then it a good a pure path you follow...

but also be prepared to never make it...
a harsh reality....
but reality none the less...

mikesb - did you ever hear any Malm with Alcatraz??
Suzie - me personally.... I'd never batter a guitar to death on stage...

I love them too much....

optical - Celestions are nice, I use them and I'm very happy...
Yoda - Good luck on the lead vox auditions.... I hated all that... more than once I'd said to the band, "screw this I'll do lead vox me self.. let's get a rhythm player.."
funnily enough, I reckon that being a lead vocalist made me a better lead guitarist.. because my solos becamse a little more 'lyrical' and less technique centric....

so you want someone like Christina Aguilara on vocals??
and that's just for the timbre of her voice right?... lol..

My name is Elizabeth and my "good-friend," TIM WEBLEY, is a huge fan! You may remember signing his Steve Vai custom at the Tower Records here in Hoffman Estates... ...I even found him an autographed pic of you for him for christmas... ...I have bought tickets for us to see you OCT 22, at the House of Blues in Chicago...

Our relationship is a little undetermined at this time, and I was hoping if you could say a word or two about how "Once you find love, you shouldn't let it go " or something to that effect with his name -- it would show him how much I care and what I'm willing to go through for him -- which is needless to say, BEGGING you for a little help.

I'm sorry this message will be written everyday 'til the 22, since I'm not sure when or if you will even see this. Sorry for the annoyance.

Jblaze, your up at 4 a.m.? That's way early...or way late. lol! Looks like you've seen more of the DVD than I have. lol! Maybe I'll have a chance to watch disk 2 today? As for your plate, I'm pretty sure (99.9%) the mission was accomplished, but wait to hear from Mari herself. We both mentioned it at the show, so I know she didn't forget about it.

bahduh, hello!

This is for all you football fans

A guy took his blonde girl friend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench... After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience. "Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, I saw them flip a coin and one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' Hel-LLLO! It's only 25 cents!"

TOP TEN REASONS WHY TRICK OR TREATING IS BETTER THAN SEX

10) You are guaranteed to get at least a little something in the sack.

9) If you get tired, you can wait 10 minutes and go at it again.

8) The uglier you look, the easier it is to get some.

7) You don't have to compliment the person who gives you some.

6) It's O.K. when the person you're with fantasizes you're someone else, because you are.

5) Forty years from now you'll still enjoy candy.

4) If you don't like what you get, you can always go next door.

3) It doesn't matter if the kids hear you moaning and groaning.

2) Less guilt the morning after.

1) YOU CAN DO THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD!

clarky..i have no intentions of 'making it' as in chart sucess...if people like it the stuff..i will sell it...if enough buy it..then sell some more and end up like bands like DT (IF everything goes right) or smaller bands like threshold or some of the jazz bands/artists on a national scale, but as the chances of that happening are quite small...then i'm happy to stick been a guitar tutor or something for an income...or at least part of an income anyway. even if i have a band who do local gigs..i'll still be happy(ish).

Clarky, yes I actually got my hands on the Alcatrazz album No Parole ( a promo copy) BEFORE it was officially released. I was totally floored by that album. Before that I had heard the Soundpage in Guitar Player magazine and the Steeler record on Shrapnel records. The Steeler had incredible guitar playing but the production, songs and vocals were horrid. I maintain to this day that the young YJM blew his bolt on that Alcatrazz album and his first solo Rising Force album. The Alcatrazz featured his riffing within the confines of Rainbowish power rock and of course the first solo featured YJM playing with free instrumental reign. He has never IMHO, been able to recapture or surpass the power in those two releases. Moreover he has never been able to modify his style/sound etc to any great extent either.

Shortly after the Alcatrazz release (they were a very short lived band with YJM) I got my hands on a bootleg video of Alcatrazz live in Japan. Graham Bonnet's vocals were terrible live but YJM already had his full blown stage persona intact. It was also confirmation, for me at least, that there was in fact no studio trickery involved in the Alcatrazz record. I was blown away then and still am today by the mans God given talent, although it must be recognized that YJM did practice like a demon to become his ultimate bad self ......

CLarky - Alcatrazz!! Man I haven't heard that name in a while. Couple of funny related stories. A group of us actually did "Island in Sun" for our senior show in high school. I was doing the singing and got wicked sick right before the show. I still have video of it, what a disaster. trying to sing all stuffed up was not one of my better moments. I also saw them on tour. They opened for Queensryche and Dio, I think. Anyway this was right after Malm had left. They had this other gutarist. I was really bummed not getting to see Malm and the new player sucked. I don't know what I was smokin (yea, I do) but it must have been good cause you KNOW who was on guitar. VAI !! It was not long after that I got Flex-ible and couldn't believe it was the same guy. Just watched the Astoria dvd yesterday. Man he inspires me.

Go out and SOD the MASSES!!!!

Changing times

Barbara Walters of 60 Minutes (USA) did a story on gender roles in Kabul several years before the Afghan conflict.

She noted that women customarily walked about 5 paces behind their husbands.

She returned to Kabul recently and observed that women still walk behind their husbands and are now happy with the old custom.

Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked.

"But why do you seem so happy with the old custom that people thought you should try and change?"

"Land mines," said the woman

George Bush received a call from Russian President Putin.

He says to Bush "Our largest condom factory has exploded". "My people's favorite form of birth control." This is a true disaster!"

"Mr. Putin, the American people would be happy to do anything within their power to help you," replied President Bush.

"I do need your help" said Putin. "Could you send 1,000,000 condoms ASAP to tide us over?"

"Why certainly! I'll get right on it," said Bush.

"Oh, and one more small favor, please?" said Putin. "Yes?"

"Could the condoms be red in color and at least 10" long and 2" in diameter?" said Putin

"No problem," replied the President.

Mr. Putin hung up and started laughing with his aides about how those stupid Americans will fall for any thing.

George Bush hung up and called the CEO of a condom company. "I need a favor. Can you send 1,000,000 condoms right away over to Russia."

"Consider it done," replied the CEO of the condom company.

"Good! Now listen, they have to be red in color, 10" long and 2" in diameter."

"Easily done. Anything else?"

"Yeah," said the President, "Print 'MADE IN AMERICA, .SIZE: "SMALL" on each one!!"

The Cuckoo Clock

The other night I was invited out for a night with "the girls." I

Told my husband that I would be home by midnight, "I promise!"

Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy.

Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times.

Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times.

I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when totally smashed), in order to escape a possible conflict with him.

The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him "Midnight". He didn't seem pissed off at all. Whew! Got away with that one!

Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock."

When I asked him why, he said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed Three times, then said, "Oh. Shit," cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted."

Jblaze, I'm watching disc 2 now. I just checked the dates - the guys were in Japan 20 days after we seen them in Upper Darby, PA! No wonder everything looked so familiar! lol! I hated to see Mike with ice on his arm talking about tendonitis :( There are some pretty funny parts on here. They say the same thing Joe & the band say in the web greeting message - "I got the fever, and the only prescription is...more cow bell!!" lol! I'd love to know the story behind that one.

Lock & lol!! lmao!!!

There was a preacher whose wife was expecting a baby so he went to the congregation and asked for a raise. After much consideration and discussion, they passed a rule that whenever the preacher's family expanded, so would his paycheck.

After 6 children, this started to get expensive and the Congregation decided to hold another meeting to discuss the preacher's salary. There was much yelling and bickering about how much the clergyman's additional children were costing the church. Finally, the Preacher got up and spoke to the crowd, "Children are a gift from God," he said. Silence fell on the congregation.

In the back of the room, a little old lady stood up and in her frail voice said, "Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much, we wear rubbers". And the congregation said, "amen."
