Delfino - Yes and no; it depends what kind of teaching you want to get into. To teach privately you really don't need any qualifications - you just need to be able to play. Although you can charge more money if you do have relevant qualifications. It helps to have a bit of a reputation as a player before getting into it, but if you don't then you may well be able to do that through the teaching. But it's hard to make a substantial amount of money (ie. a living) out of private teaching because it takes time to build up your clientelle.

For school/peripatetic teaching (which is what I do, as well as four or five private students) they really prefer you to be qualified, since it's a much more official position - to some extent you're more of an employee than self-employed. I got my teaching gig on the premise that I will graduate at the end of this year. Mind you, it did help that I used to go to the school and the head of music remembers me.

One thing I will say, however, is that regardless of how amazing you are at playing the guitar you may well make a lousy teacher. You have to be able to communicate the information in a clear, understandable, jargon-free, and fun way. You have to be able to relate to your students. Some people just can't do that. There are courses you can take and various methods you can employ, but that won't necessarily help in any way - you're either a good teacher or you aren't, IMHO.

By the way, I haven't forgotten about my little country styles demo I said I'd make for you - I've just had a lot on my plate recently; I will get round to it, I promise!!!! :-)

Good point - I've got internet working, and it was all pain free and easy.

Bad point - I've now got to wade through all the settings changing things to work in a nicer way (Slackware is nicely setup, it just doesn't do anything unless someone who really knows what they're doing plays with it.

We should get rid of all the slackjawed knuckle draggers....but that would seriously shrink the democrat's base, as well as some gun toting republican hillbillies. The fact about excons, however, is that most of them (unfortunately) are not changed people. Many of them are and will be repeat criminals. I was just saying that excons loosing their voting rights doesn't bother me, whereas actual descrimination against normal law abiding voters does. It just seems that individuals should have thought about the concequences of their actions before carrying them out. In addition criminals in jail should not be able to vote. It is not a God given right, it is a luxury like driving a car, and I'll be damned if some shmuck in prison decided what laws will govern me. one last thing, you seems to hack on religious people a ton. While fundamentalist christians scare me almost as much as Fundamentalist Islam, and Mormons (just kidding haah) I think this country could use more morals and focus. I'm a practicing Catholic, and that gives my life a lot of focus, more focus than the typical American college kid that sees no farther in life than getting high, tosted and laid. I think are country is being filled more and more with a bunch of brain dead wastes, that have no passion for anything.

jazzzzzzzy - Even if something happened in Florida, the entire election wasn't fixed (as someone originally said, which started this whole thing). Florida is one state. It's wrong to blame Bush and the Florida stuff for Gore's loss, especially when he didn't even win his home state.

Satch~ I have been a huge fan for several years. I missed you and the band last month when you came to Austin, TX with Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple. I'm already waiting for your next apperence here at the end of the month at the University of Texas Performing Arts Center. My brother lives in San Fran and saw the show. He said it was great, but of coarse considering the line-up, you only played about forty-five minutes. Anyway, this will be the first time that I see you in concert and I cannot stop talking about it. All of my favorite songs are somewhat new, but all the older tunes I know are just as great. The collection of tunes that you and the band have put together are extordinary, but the one tune that always gives me chills is "TIME". I first heard the tune when I was picking up my brother from the airport at DFW. He threw it on, and it caught my attention quick, and I said to him, "That has to be Satch". Since then, the song has reminded me of my brother and I. We are huge music people and enjoy great music from the heart. I put the song on periodically to remind me of my bro because he is always with me mentally, but hundreds of miles away. Sometimes songs make you feel like everything will be alright, and things will always turn around. They let you know that a smile on your face is always better then a nasty scowl. This song has meant more to me in music then hearing my first compact disc when I was just a naive little punk kid. Thanks for great music! I look forward to hearing you on the 30th, and I hope you, campitelli, stu, and everyone else have great shows, and stay safe along the way.

Hey all. Been doing a lot of work this week, hence the no-posts. I skipped a few pages from the other day and also a few from the weekend.

We had our federal election on Saturday, and the same party got back in with a healthier majority. I'll won't push my opinions on the result on anyone, but may I say that I wasn't surprised at the result at all.

So I have heard enough political commentary for a while thank you!

OCPS: Thats fantastic that you are a "strong practicing catholic"! So are millions of other people! If you think you are by any chance a more gifted & much smarter than the average "college kid" just because of your strong Catholic faith, I would have to say it is safe to abandon your faith because arrogance in Christianity is scorned. According to my ideals, I believe you are a Catholic only for reputation and prestige. I dont see it as anything more than a tag saying "Hey! Look! I am Catholic! God loves me! God doesnt love you!" The very fact that you pass judgement on people who like to get "high, toasted and laid" (which for some odd reason could be 80% of the world???) lets me assume that your faith has been scarred by what society expects you to worship, not what you truly believe using your own moral rationality.

I do not see any crime in having harmless fun whether it is getting "high, toasted AND laid." In fact, I have learnt (and still learning) more about myself by exploring new grounds. If you (in your self righteous world) think that you are a better person than I am only because you dont seem to be indulging in some of the things I do, then good. Good for you! You dont have to go around preaching unless flaunting is a hobby of yours.

I have been to college. I graduated with honors in Econ and Math. I have seen 600 kids graduate (and several of them graduated with honors). I dont remember myself as the only one partying (and trying to hook up with chicks). And You have the audacity to prove yourself "better" than them all when you havent even met them???

Now, I dont know who you are. I would say this the exact same thing to anyone who comes off to me as arrogant and self righteous by waving their faith. If you find strength in Catholicism, thats fantastic! There are a million ways to find strength, btw.

In case you didnt know, I was born and raised Catholic too. I still am Catholic and always will be. I do find strength in Faith and Prayer. But I do not let institution dictate my life. I search for it myself.

Just got in from the show. Man o' man o' man was it killer!!! Every time I see Joe I think it's the best show yet, and folks, this was the best show yet! lol! They played PSYCHO MONKEY!! Also, wait till you hear AWM,AWY. It's a few minutes longer and it's the best version I've ever heard! Awesome, awesome show. Joe looked HOT in his jeans, black tee, red glasses with guitar to match, and NO hat!! I LOVE seeing Joe's bald head! lol! He was ON FIRE and the whole band was fantastic. I love the extra sound Galen adds to the band.

JOE, you were awesome! Wish we had more time. Hope you weren't to late for your meeting. Always remember - You've Got A Friend In Pennsylvania :) lol!
