A government operates through the use of tax dollars. I do not know about you, but the fruits of my labors are mine. I pay taxes (gas, plates, income, property), but in the end, the money is mine.

I could leave this country, go else where in the world, go to other states where there are less taxes (such as Texas that has no income tax, but other taxes) and reside there.

I tend to like this country. We have had our share of interesting leaders (FDR, IKE, Carter, Reagan, Clinton) some of whom have been good (for some) and bad (for some). No one is perfect. Could the Republican party had a different candidate (in 1996, 2000, 2004) sure. In 1996, the RNC ran an old guy who fell off a stage. Could the DNC put someone other than Dukakis in 1988 (sure).

Is our country perfect - hell no - it never will be. If Kerry won, if Nader won, or if any other lesser known candidate won - the country still would not be perfect.

Is Bush without flaws - hell no - he has tons of them.

Is Kerry without flaws - hell no - he has tons of them too.

What about a 3rd party candidate - same problems - plus, currently the "public" and the "2 parties" don't want any competition.

There are several people out there (me at times) who thinks there should be 3rd way - but the "correct" candidate has not arisen.

Some believe that Perot was that man in 1992 - but screwed it all up by dropping out and then coming back - he still did well - well enough to scare the hell out of both parties by pulling nearly 20% of the vote.

What may happen - has happened in the past - is that one of the parties may start to fold while a new (3rd) party arise and takes its place.

The Federalists are gone. The Whigs are gone. The Democrat-Republicans dropped a name.

Change happens over time. It needs to be started and pushed.

The first Republican candidate lost in 1856.

In my opinion, the country is not "ready" for a 3rd party yet - who ever is to push the new party needs to be a real leader so that others will follow. They cannot push it down our throats.

Slavery, as referenced in the Constitution, is, stick a fork in it, done.

No draft is in play now - and each candidate has stated that there were no plans to put a draft in play.

What I did hear, is that those who the government knows voted for 3rd party or independent candidates would be the first to go, regardless of age (just kidding - just read that on another site).

Seriously though, my brother-in-law enlisted out of high school (to the ridicule of his classmates) and is currently on an aircraft carrier. We all know what the risks are. But it was his own decision to join.

I am registered - but it is not a slave trade. The President cannot "trade" you to Canada, China, Russia, UK, ect. Those registered are not a commodity to be sold. They are to do a job.

IKE did many things, prior to WWII that he was not proud of in the military (including overseeing moving WWI Veterans out of DC). Sometimes in the military you do things you do not agree with.

Kerry did the same thing - he did his job in Vietnam and then returned and tried to champion the cause against Vietnam.

Clinton got out of going to Vietnam and went to the UK to protest the US.

Bush was in the military (someplace - records are gone) and avoided conflict.

In closing, I do not believe that our military people are slaves as you clearly do. "While not active, registration for this slave trade is still mandatory."

WWII - done and forgotten.

I agree, Bush has done things which has not been "good" for the world and directly and sometimes indirectly affects other countries (our allies).

Kerry had many good points in this election - but this "global test" was for the birds.

Unilateralism is also bad - Hitler did it; Stalin did it; Iraq did it; Japan did it. Taking on Iraq - may have been premature and wrong. Still no weapons found. Britain also said there were weapons to be found and Bush relied upon the British intelligence.

We now have 4 more years.

Heard of the new dream team yesterday for 08.

McCain/Guliani for the Republicans. H.Clinton or Edwards / Obama for the Democrats

What I want is one candidate to just win. Have a clear mandate - like Reagan in 1984 (winning 49 states). We know who won and who lost.

Right now - sure Bush win, but 49% of the country wanted Kerry and are pissed off today (rightfully so).

We need a good candidate, who the people (both sides) want.

If McCain had joined Kerry - wonder what would have happened last night/today?

Man, this week has been busy... I've had a few papers to write, so of course Microsoft Word decides to die on me. I've reinstalled it at least three or four times, and it still isn't working...ugh.

jazzzzzzzy - "?????"

I thought my original post made sense...what didn't you understand? There's no need for you to call people out when they tell someone else to not post the same message multiple times. Just because we don't own this website doesn't mean we can't expect people to have considerate / polite posting habits.

cuthbert1776 - "Since either major-party Prez candidate is bound to work toward goals that will screw each of us individually, by telling people "Go vote!", aren't you, in a way, saying "Go f*ck yourself!""

Hehehe... I didn't say people had to vote for one of the two major candidates, so you're stretching it just a little bit... ;-)

txmikec - Go to the Road section of the site and click on the "r" next to each gig.
Zinc Master - "Did anybody watch [Father of the Pride] anyway?"

I saw part of the first episode (my roommate was watching it). It's a computer-animated show that focuses on a family of talking lions. I had no interest in really watching it because, to me, it looked like The Lion King animated in the style of Shrek, but with comedy written for adults.

If the show is gone for good, I won't miss it.

"Spam"

Spam! It's pink, and it's oval...
Spam! I bought it at the Mobil...
Spam! It's made in Chernobyl...
Spam!

Does anyone here get that reference?

pirate13 - This is a message board, not a chat room. There normally isn't more than a few visitors per hour here...it takes us a while to respond to posts...
mowlie 2000 - "I know from watching various programs/films ie "Boyz In The Hood" etc, that there are certain areas of the states that have really bad gang culture. Is the way that program/movie makers portray it accurate and is it really as bad as it is made out to be?"

There's truth to what ends up in the movies...they bring up a lot of serious issues, but a lot of the stuff is exaggerated or stereotypical as well. (If you want to see a hilarious movie that satirizes gang movies, check out Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood...I love that movie. It's been a few years since I've seen it...I should rent it again sometime.).

Anyway... Gangs can be a problem in most big cities here, but I've never had anything happen to me. Most people are just fine. Yeah, if you walk down a street in Carson after midnight and start swearing at people and causing trouble, you'll probably get shot. But in a case like that, aren't you just asking for it?

If you're involved with drugs or prostitution or similar stuff, yeah, your life will be difficult. But it would be difficult to survive while living that lifestyle even if you didn't have to worry about gangs or violence.

I've found that if you just mind your own business, everything is fine. If you aren't into drugs, and you're actually a responsible parent who doesn't let your kids go all over town late at night, you don't really have anything to worry about.

On a related note... I took the train up to Hollywood one day back in April to get wristbands for Satch's signing at Tower Records. I met this couple who were visiting from England...they had already visited San Francisco and Las Vegas, and were now spending a few days in LA. They were scared to death when the train made a stop in Compton. I thought that was really weird...it was maybe 1:00 in the afternoon; nothing was going to happen to them.

Based on that, I'd have to say a lot of what you hear on your side of the pond is exaggerated (at least somewhat).

This post is getting long, so I'll send it now... I'll be back in a few minutes with the rest of my responses...

...Austin...

DoTheStu - Thanks for your opinion on the gang culture. It was very enlightening. Oh and by the way, I actually own that film as I saw it once back when it first came out and, once it was realeased, I had to buy it. It is hillarious!!! I think that the Wayans are excellent, especially the sitcom "My Wife And Kids".

SaaTcHm0 - Hi...welcome to the site! :-)

When will you be coming home? Joe is doing a quick west coast tour between Christmas and New Year's...I thought I'd let you know in case you'll be in the area.

What Satch albums do you have with you in Iraq? What songs do you find work best for turning your friends into Satch fans?

Ricky Garcia - I'm listening to the interview now...awesome. :-)
DamIMissNam - "We have made plans to see [Joe] in San Francisco on the 26th."

I'll be at that show... Keep in touch...it'd be cool to meet you.

Mr Nick - "[Bush is] intent on taking over every country in the world"

How do you figure?

alison mcveigh - Hi... 4 of the 5 songs on Joe's original EP were rereleased on Time Machine. The first song on the EP, Talk To Me, was not included because there were problems with the master tape.

You can download Talk To Me by clicking here.

ReyDelacero - Lower the whammy bar with your left hand, play pinch harmonics near the 24th fret with your right hand, and raise the whammy bar with your left hand.
Stevee T - "How bout sum Marty Feldman?"

I watched Young Frankenstein on Halloween...man, that is such a great movie.

Walk this way...

We had a great time at the Austin show!! The band sounded fantastic and getting to talk with Joe again for a couple minutes was cool!! He gave us an autographed 8 x 10 photo of himself after our time was up. They posted our pictures today , I like most of them , especially our pic with Joe!! I took a few good ones of the boys playing too. Also had fun squealing the tires on my 04 mustang rental car. Sorry it took me so long to post , I'm usually here everyday to see what going on but missed Mon & Tues... later

Mick, you...you mean your...not...a 110 year old chain-smoker?? Geez man, we really need more pictures up on this site. lol! ;-) Sorry you're feeling crappy. It seems to be going around. As for work and my boss, he's pretty cool, so he has sympathy when one of us isn't at 100%. Glad that headache fell on my night off. I would have never made it. lol! Hope your throat is feeling better soon. As for Bush, everything happens for a reason. All I can do is scratch me bum and wonder WHY? lol!

Stace, I saw the commercials, but I would never watch that part of the show. Actually, the only part of that show that I do ever watch is the physical challenge part. Can't stomach the rest.

WHOA! The temp. is supposed to drop down to 28 to 32 degrees f. tonight!! Where's my blankie!!

Slan, normal? Shit man, this one is gunna leave a mark.

Stevee T, duh dah dah dah? lol!

eamon7, that would be Reading, PA. It's where I lived for 26 years. It used to be a fantastic city, but as the years went on it got worse. There are still some safe parts in the city, and some parts are still very nice. The bad part of the city used to be mostly confined to a certain area, but now it's leaching out. People find it easy to do crime there, so they stay. The good people move out. That bad people move in. Austin is right in saying if you mind your bidness you're better off, but if a guy stops you to ask you for a cig or some money, you better get ready to throw down a judo chop! lol!

In 2000, it was ranked 44th in violent crime. Could be worse, but keep in mind thats just violent crime, not all crime. Check it out. I just googled this info, so I don't know how accurate it is.

PhryDom, Atlanta was #1. Better wear a cup.

http://www.morganquitno.com/cit00alph.pdf

edit - to add to the crime discussion, here is the text from todays online local newspaper -

Brenda *******-********, 31, Reading, was robbed of her purse by a man with a knife Monday night shortly before 8 in the 400 block of South 10th Street. *******-******** was walking when the man approached from behind, put the knife to her neck and demanded her purse. She gave it to him and he ran away. Police did not know what the purse contained.

*my sister lives 3 blocks away*

A man with a .22-caliber rifle shot out two tires and fired a third bullet through the roof of a car Sunday night in the 1000 block of Pershing Boulevard. Neighbors saw the man dressed in black shoot into the car and then run away. Three shell casings were found.

Lucinda *****, 32, Reading, was robbed at gunpoint of nearly $100 Sunday about 3 a.m. as she walked in the 800 block of Mulberry Street. Schell was approached by a man who pulled out a handgun and demanded money. She turned over cash, and the gunman ran away. He was described as black, about 20 years old and almost 6-feet tall with a medium build.

*we lived 2 blocks from there when we lived in the city*

Stephen **********, 45, Reading, was robbed of about $75 by two gunmen Saturday about 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of Moss Street. ********* was walking when the men walked up to him, pulled out handguns and demanded that he empty his pockets. ********* turned over money, and the gunmen ran away.

*my parents live 3 blocks from there*

It's a shame really.
