OpticalStudio- sorry to hear about the noise, I know how that goes! I'm sorry I still haven't ordered your CD yet, the problem I have is that we are living temporarily elsewhere until the move goes through, and don't go back to our original place too often- my bank cards etc are registered at my "old" address until we move... and the mail is just posted into a central place there where everyone collects it from, so I can only get anything delivered there and it isn't too secure... to cut a long story short, I will order it soon! Sorry about that. My husband by the way is called Matt. Thanks for your good wishes! All my best to you too!

Hello Joe, I´m a 23 year old guitarist from Munich and a great fan of your music. I´m playin guitar 6-7 hours every day but I´m not sure what I should practice. Can you tell me how important music theory is, like scales, modes and how they relate to each other, chords, arpeggios...Many Guitar players told me "You just have to improvise". Thanks Oliver

NASS, i am more a fan of his earlier stuff so i like surfin and flying in a blue dream for the studio stuff and time machine for the live tracks. VIKINGS. as a packer fan i have to dislike them. its a law in wisconsin. as for the bears, not only did they kick our buts earlier but their defense looks even better so i wouldn' t bet against them like i did for the first game. our defense sucks this year. i hope we can beat the vikes this sunday but if moss plays we are doomed as we don't have anybody that can cover him. could be ugly

Eamon- Hi, thanks for asking- my equipment building is still ongoing, I had a choice a couple of months ago to either get a really good valve amp, or a small practice amp and a Gibson SG- chose the SG and bought a Fender Champion and Boss MD-2 pedal. My husband and I are going to buy 2 more guitars and get a better amp when we move house- we'll have some spare cash then we hope! I did like the look of the 40w Fender Hot Rod Deluxe though. Still haven't got my JS1200 either yet! :-(

Austin, That doesn't excuse his behavior here. .....WRONG! You should say "In my opinion, that doesn't excuse his behaviour here". Joe has his board labelled as a "kind of free-for-all". It being free for all, I feel it's perfectly acceptable for people to express themselves in whatever manner seems fit.

I mean god, it's only fair. Namm Man and I fully debated a subject which we have very much opposed opinions on, but at no point did either of us say "you can't say that".

Wolf2 doesn't make the slightest inkling of sense, but he's generally accepted, it seems, and all the better for it. My saying that jazzzy, like me, is someone who is easily irritated was not me sharing my thoughts on why you should excuse his behaviour - it was my effort to help you understand his behaviour......when you can understand someone and what motivates them, you can best judge the way you react to them......in the long run, it's much easier than trying to change someone.

Suzie, hehe, cuthbert posted a link to a page on the "this is london" website. It was a page carrying an article on the epidemic of Sexually Transmitted Disease round london, and how the number infected has risen 20 almost 230,000 in the past year!

hehe, I didn't really just randomly pick those figures outta the air!

Oliverto, welcome to T2J! My personal feeling is that it is a good idea to learn the theory behind modes, chord/key progressions and arpeggios. but don't get dragged into playing-by-theory. These things should be used as a way to express emotion in your music, rather than writing music using theory. Music like that is often boring and soleless!

It also depends on what kinda music is your style. Considering you said you love Joe's music, I would guess that you like to play stuff in a notably Joe-influenced style? If so, then yeah, learning all those things you mentioned is a good idea!

Years ago, joe wrote articles for a guitar magazine, and those articles were, more recently, compiled into a book called "Guitar Secrets" or something straightforward like that. I recommend getting it (try amazon, it's realy cheap), it explains everyting really well in there!

jazzzzzzzy, thanks for the link bud, it's hilarious! Love the thing about gays and religion....it's all so true!

Hi Joe. Haven't made a show.... yet. Hope life is good. xo

Tastey - I saw what the bleep do we know? a few weeks ago and I loved it. We are so darn programmed. I told my students( high school) about it , that it questions our sense of reality. I loved the animated cells and wedding scenes. Our general sense of empowerment is so low. I've been reading and talking about this stuff for some years now, love it.

Satchurated Feedback is a great cd, very impressed. I wish you all the best in your musical careers.

peace out, Linda

Austin: I agree with 962. Even though I have had numerous encounters with people here, I never said "You cannot post this." My biggest issue with you is that you keep directing people what to post and what not to. If people get pissed off, let them tell me personally. We do not need a moderator, which you are trying your hardest to be. As 962, if YOU feel you do not like a certain post, tell me. Dont tell me everyone feels the same way. You need to get rid of your "holier than thou" attitude towards others. At the same time I have the option to ignore your posts, but unfortunately you keep bringing me up everytime. Grow up.

Zen - the ultimate path to creativity is found via a healthy blend of a willingness to absorb anything and everything... all styles, all instruments, techniques, technologies, no bounderies... and drive this with a curiosity for experimentation, imagination and creativity...

musique sans frontiers

jazzy - wow... what a combination.... a jazzer dreaming of the mosh pit... lmao......
most often it's the other way around... rockers without the know-how to get jazzy... lol...

here's a nice introduction...
before you learn to tear it up like a shredder, learn tio riff...
the riff is the vibe, the attitude... the aggression....

every tried learning all riffs to Unleashed in the East by Judas Priest????
so the album is a little dated... however... the riffs are still relavent today...
they're not too tough... no Drop-D tuning..
and you'll pass though a raft of techniques from power chords, single note riffs, muted riffs with power chord accents.. etc...
another nice riff school is found in the first two Dio albums..

if you fancy some qulity riffing but less metal centric try learning Strangers in the Night by UFO and Live and Dangerous by Thin Lizzy - and these two also contain great rock solos that are playable

once you start picking up the pace of your playing then raise the level of difficulty...
if you feel inclinded to head for the EVH and Malm albums..
then do it gradually and pass though other simpler albums first..

no point in going to the dojo and studying 1st dan kata on the first day..

now with the really hardcore metal bands like Slipknot and Fear Factory there are a few things you need to appreciate first....

1 - they are shit tight: why? partly because they are better players than many give them credit, partly because they drop tune which makes riffing much easier and also because of the production tools in the studio

2 - they have a giant sized tone: why? because the guitar parts are 'tracked' [recorded many times in unison and over laid] to fatten the tone...

so... you'll never sound like them or be that tight...
in fact, live they can't 100% recreate it either...

but that don't stop you learning the riffs..

sounds to me as though you're in need of "riff replacement therapy".. lol..

good luck and enjoy the ride... and questions... just shout..

cuthbert - I was going to point out that I'm not responcible for all that shit in London, I'm a reformed character, I'm trying to be a socially acceptable blah blah rhubarb rhubarb bollox....

then I realised... it's all lies... I'm not reformed at all...
and I'm not proud... I just don't give a shit...
so if all that was my fault... I didn't even notice... lmao....

delfino - I know Jerry [Ibe-register] quite well... I get my spare parts from him... I met him at the first JemFest UK and we became pals ever since...

Avarice is my custom 7... she's been an active member of my harem for over a year now.. and is a key part of my new album.... and she's a babe.... shwing......

one of my cabs is real old... it was old when I got it and I've had it for years... lol.... years ago it cost £100..
my other cab is 18 months old and was something like £350.. it's nice.. and makes my old one look really scabby... lol..

962 - wolf2 makes a shit lot more sense than he used to a few years ago....

anyways... I thought Brainspiller and Snuffmovie wasted him..
so this wolf2 must be a poor imitation of the original and late wolf... lol..

Sehr geehrter Herr Tebyl,

cuthbert1776 - "You are overlooking one key thing. The Colts' defense SUCKS!!!"

LOL...yeah, I know. I think it would've been a shootout in the 40s or maybe even 50s, but I still think the Colts might've won. Then again, maybe I'm just thinking that because Manning is the quarterback on my fantasy football team and I want him to score more points. ;-)

jazzzzzzzy - "Seriously, back off."

If you don't want people to respond to comments that you post on a public message board, maybe you should email them to people privately.

"If there were any people I talked about it was no one on T2J."

You didn't say who you were talking about, so how was I supposed to know?

"Also, the person I talked about being intolerant to the right wing party was Fat Mike from NOFX."

You originally said "many people" not "the person".

"Are you some kind of police here?"

How am I acting like the police?

"You do not need to be the mouthpiece."

I was speaking for myself.

"My biggest issue with you is that you keep directing people what to post and what not to."

That is not true. I have said several times on this website that I have no problem with people having their own opinions.

"We do not need a moderator, which you are trying your hardest to be."

I am not trying to be a moderator.

"You need to get rid of your "holier than thou" attitude towards others."

I have no such attitude.

achoo - "what's the deal with the Power Cosmic part one? What kind of logic is there to that song...I just don't understand it"

Hehehe...just think of it as an introduction, like The Bells Of Lal (Part I) or The Forgotten (Part I). It doesn't have to be understood on its own, it just gets you in the mood for the next part of the song.

Also, in Ricky Garcia's Jemfest Radio interview, Joe said he would like to film one of the upcoming west coast shows for a DVD release.

Suzie2000 - "there seem to be loads of people on here suffering from colds / coughs and flu"

Several of the guys in my suite had colds last week. I didn't catch anything then, and it looks like they're over everything now...so I think I got lucky.

962 - "That doesn't excuse his behavior here. .....WRONG!"

You're not understanding my point. "Behavior" and "opinions" are two different things. It's not an excuse for his behavior (mood, etc.). I didn't say anything about his opinion or his point of view. I've said before that I'm not trying to keep people from expressing their opinions.

I just took a test about an hour ago. If I find out next week that I failed it, does that mean it's okay for me to read T2J while I'm pissed off and upset, swear at everyone, and put them in lousy moods? Wouldn't it be better for everyone if I waited until I was in a good mood? Being in a bad mood because of one thing shouldn't be used as an excuse to be pissed off at other things in life.

"at no point did either of us say "you can't say that"."

I'm not saying that either. As I said before, I have no problems with opinions...it's the unnecessary swearing and namecalling that goes with them. That stuff just isn't needed. I said that in a post to you over the weekend.

"it was my effort to help you understand his behaviour"

I understand his behavior.

EMan2u - No, Stu has not been injured. He hasn't played with Joe since the G3 2001 tour because Joe wanted to move in a different musical direction.
juju808 - That sounds cool...have fun. :-) When are you leaving?
JS JS - Buy Slippery When Wet...it's a great album.

...Austin...
