EVH was an influence to Satch, just like he was to everyone else in the late 70's when he "erupted" into the music scene. Satch took guitar a million miles further and is a master of the fretboard. He plays flawlessly, intensively and he will always be my guitar hero. End of story.

mustanger37 you nailed it on the head. most of these peeps were not around when eddy surfaced. he was the hendricks of the 70s. the biggest inovater of all time. between the wammy and the tapping suddenly everybody wanted to play like him. everybody said oh thats what that tremelo bar is for. listen to the very first vanhalen album. by the way eruption was recorded in one take. my god he inspired the whole big hair band era and spauned hundreds of eddy clones. i put joe first and eddy second

Optical Studio, hi, hope your move goes smoothly!
I was feeling very crap earlier, couldn't stop coughing non-stop, so went to a Sunday Doctor service, and was told I'm developing asthma. It's ridiculous at my age!
Oh well! Have a good week. :-)

Bmadd4, can you try and stick more things in one post rather than just multi-posting? It's permanent you know. Also, what's your deal with Zenfish?
Austin, that is the most horrible photo I have seen. Well done!
Delfino, send an e-mail to Ovation1, he'll tell you all you need to know about Paul Gilbert!
Suzie, sorry to hear about the randomly developing asthma! That sucks, hope you don't get it too bad. Hope you're enjoying the DVD's!

eamon7 voltage regularol cranking the ac voltage to 145 volts first of all I have no idea what a "regularol " is, but if you read further you'll see that EVH had a 100w Marshall (whose tone he loved) set to full-everything. The variac was (NOT used in its intended way) set up between the amp & speakers to reduce the volume without reducing / affecting the tone. IOW a crude power soak.
[bn]dck a most excellent night then! so cool!

i mispelled regulator and couldn't think of the correct term variac. thanks for reminding me. i had heard that he raised the ac voltage to overdrive the tube bias and run the tubes hotter for more gain. you heard he used it as a power soak. i wonder who is right (not that it matters to me. just wondering) in fact to back me up if you check out the line6 pod 2 pro amp modeler manual they claim that they modeled one of their amp sounds by using a variac and increasing the ac voltage based on the eddie sound . i don't own a pod i just read the manual while researching one for a friend

Happy Halloween all... Listen to some King Diamond today. If you are old enough, like me, Alice Cooper is an acceptable substitute. These are the two artists I most closely associate with Halloween....

eamon7 - Your reasons for why Joe went with Peavey are correct, but they didn't approach him...he contacted them first.
962 - LOL...I'm glad you liked it. mikesb sent that picture to me a while back...I forgot to credit him earlier. So yeah...blame him if you have trouble erasing that horrible image from your mind. ;-)
UematsuMaster - Drive to SF...it isn't all that far away, and the first show is on a Sunday. I'm driving to the show from farther away than Sacramento...it'll be well worth it.
...Austin...

mikesb, what? No Rob Zombie for Halloween? lol! I'd have to say Alice is in the #1 spot for sure.
Steven, things are good here at the moment. Here's hoping that your move goes smooth like butta!
Suzie, make sure to get a second opinion. They tried to tell my oldest sister she had asthma. The meds made her choke and cough worse than what she did without it. Her lips were purple for the longest time (weeks/months). I actually sat with her in the ER during one of her many episodes. She was coughing continuously and couldn't breathe. She told them that the breathing treatments made her worse, but they insisted she needed one. After coughing and gagging so hard she would throw up during the treatment, they finally came back in to check her oxygen level. It was lower...just like she told them it would be. After a long time, and many tests, they finally figured out she has bad lungs. She occasionaly needs to be put on Prednisone (sp?) among other meds for her episodes. Hopefully your problem is just a reaction to a bad cold and nothing more.
Austin, as for showing that picture...again...you suck! lol! ;-)

joe... it was great to meet you again (10-22). i didn't talk to you as much as i wanted - for some reason i felt like i was taking up your "precious time" and left without saying everything i wanted to. to refresh your memory, here's one of the photos we had together. joe&zonin like i said, my friend recorded the experience hendrix concert last february. i then transferred the show to a fellow T2J friend here and he gave it to you at a hollywood record store appearance. i have seen many concerts in my day, but i will always hold that one as being top of the list! anyways, i really wanted to ask what it was like to play with billy and mitch onstage in that type of setting. also wanted to tell you it was my birthday that night - wasn't looking for an instrumental of happy b'day, but i drove in from minnesota that day and i totally spaced it off. i also wanted to give you a cd containing one song of mine i feel more than worthy of a "T2J vol. 2" CD - i guess i'll just hope someone else involved with that whole thing asks me for an mp3. i got a bit tongue tied with you - i have felt that a few times over the last year having met people like ray manzarek and robby krieger and ian astbury - you think of all these questions and comments before hand - then BAMM, there they are, and nothing. just so you know, the show you played was the best i've seen to date - and i've seen about 15 shows prior to this. motorcycle driver, war, strange, the traveler among several other fantastic tracks - wow. still blown away days later. you are, and always have been a true inspiration. many thanks to you for all your efforts.
~bill
