upelsinka, welcome! And I think it would be great for Joe to return to Russia! He did some performance in shops in Russia earlier this year, but has yet to do a normal show there. I personally think that Red Square would be an axcellent setting for Joe to record a music video.....what do you think?!
TravisHodges, Paul Gilbert doesn't use the DS-1......his tone is controlled by amp and guitar setup, almost exclusively. Also, with the DS-1 you gotta be careful to set it up right. Joe and Steve have used them in conjunction with their amp's dirty channel, which requires subtle overdrive from the pedal, so you don't loose the valve sound. Also, using it with a Marshall won't help, cause modern Marshalls sound kinda shit anyway, and vintage ones sound great as they are!
DamnIMissNamm, I await with interest and intrigue as to whether or not this does happen! Man I threw out the crystal ball a long time ago.....now I just read tea leaves! hehe

At least you are lucky - I had to change my clocks a few weeks ago - we are on a different time zone than most of the state.

Who?

New Who Album May Appear Next Spring

Entertainment - Reuters

TORONTO (Billboard) - The Who's first studio album since 1982 may finally see the light of day next spring.

According to guitarist Pete Townshend (news)'s official Web site (http://www.petetownshend.co.uk), the set carries the provisional title "WHO2," perhaps a reference to the fact that he and vocalist Roger Daltrey (news) are the lone surviving original members of the legendary rock act.

"Roger and I (will) meet in mid-December to play what we have written," Townshend said on the site. "If we move ahead from there, we may have a CD ready to release in the spring. If the recording works out, we will tour with the usual band in the first half of 2005."

Townshend and Daltrey have been working in earnest on new material since 2002. In March, the pair released their first new songs in more than 20 years, "Real Good Looking Boy" and "Old Red Wine," on the Geffen compilation "Then and Now."

Townshend is at work on a variety of other projects, including an animated feature based on his short story "The Boy Who Heard Music." He has also begun writing his autobiography, which he intended to pen in chronological order but reconceived in the wake of his 2003 arrest on child pornography charges.

"My autobiography now offers me the chance to lay down my life story and place recent events in proper context," Townshend said. "I have had a long and lumbering life -- this book will take time."

Two theatrical concepts are also in the works, one involving British and North American theatrical productions of the rock opera "Quadrophenia" and the other regarding a "new musical spectacular for Las Vegas" with veteran Broadway director Des McAnuff.

Fucking NTL; our internet's been down for the past three days, and I just can't be arsed to trawl through all 23 pages of posts - if I've missed anything of note, then please fill me in.

Clarky - A while back you were talking someone about influences and how you haven't played along with Vai/Satch/Malmsteen in years in order to hone your unique voice on the instrument. Well, I'm totally with you!!! In fact, the only one of those three that I've evn listened to in the past few months is Malmsteen; recently I've been listening to and playing (or rather trying to play...) loads of jazz. Pat Metheny, John Scofield, George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Larry Carlton, Mike Stern, and (slightly less jazz) Robben Ford. Even some non-guitar music like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Dave Weckl Band, etc. As a result, my playing has taken a drastic detour - particularly in the area of phrasing. It's funny cause I never thought I'd get into jazz in such a big way, but I'm fucking loving it at the moment. So much so, in fact, that I want my next guitar to either be a really nice Strat or an Archtop... lol

962-Are you sure about Joe using the DS-1 through the gain channel?I'm pretty sure I remember talking to him about that and he uses it through the clean channel.I can't say I'm positive, because it was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure.I think I've read it to somewhere, but I'm really not positive about that either, hehe.

jelly man - "What do you mean you'll be happy with halo for another 6 months!?!?! Half-Life 2 will be out on Tuesday!"

LOL... Well, I just bought Halo 1...I'm nowhere near done with the single player game, and I still have fun playing the multiplayer version of it. I don't need to buy another game yet.

I'm actually not WAY into computer games. There are a few old games (Civilization II, for example) that I could play forever...I don't need to buy new ones. I'll probably get a lot of crap for saying that, but oh well. ;-) I'd rather spend my money on CDs or DVDs, I guess.

cuthbert1776 - Happy Birthday!

I saw Pay It Forward a few years ago in my 12th grade Government / Economics class. Our teacher let us watch that, and we had a discussion about it instead of taking a final. I agree with you...it's a great movie.

civgeek - "People are always saying things about that sweet Marshall tone that Joe used to have, but didn't he use the Boss distortion and the amp for power only."

You are correct.

randomdude31 - Hi...welcome to the site. :-)
Zenfish - "I have to disagree about one judgement. I think that terrorism requires lot of courage."

Terrorists are often taking the easy way out, though. Why don't they get together in a big group, walk up to the leader they don't agree with, and just complain? They'd probably be killed, but that's no different than what happens to them after a suicide bombing.

Why do they take out innocent people? They are cowards...they're scared to confront the source of their problems, so instead they pick on people who can't defend themselves.

Tahir - Welcome! :-)
Ethn Hayabusa - You are correct...Joe ran his DS1 through his Marshall's clean channel.

...Austin...

cuthbert1776: apologies accepted ...I knew that I could count on you not to force me really rant (adult-really) ;-)

Okay, perhaps I didn't specify my definition of "unnecessary bad news" enough (judging by Austin's (DoTheStu) and your first responces) and I'm too tired to do that now...

I also do see the value in the reporting of negative news -> like I said I'm in a such official position that I have to know what's going on in the world (and in my own country)...

...and I ain't gonna OVERprotect my children...that protecting thing and the difficulties of it was just a cry of distress...and was just half an hour ago reminded me by the size of a cat tabloid headlines (full of unnecessary bullshit) on the supermarket (on the front door and on every paydesk). Both my sons (8 and 7 years of age) are selective too about what they could/should do. I'm glad to hear you are doing fine with your children. I have to be very grateful for having so wonderful wife supporting me so well in raising our kids. Actually she has studied more pedagogics than me (not meaning, that you should study that to understand how to raise a child)

...so, actually I don't have a problem. I just told my opinion and asked you people for yours.

Your educational message wasn't a waste though, for there are many youngsters on this forum whom are still to become parents ;-)

To another subject:

We have summertime here (I think the whole Europe has). The range of variation on the amount of daylight is huge here up north, so it gives reason for waking up earlier in summertime. It's ok, no problems for me about it.

Everybody: Yesterday I was on a business trip and in the evening I got drunk, which led e.g. to making polemic (unintented) on this forum. Now I'm back home with my beautiful wife, drinking beer (perceptibly less than yesterday), sitting at my computer while our kids just fell asleep...what the fuck am I doing? Bye!

Edit: she had already fallen asleep...somebody hit me (with a baseball bat, please)

Thanks to anyone who gave me some advice, I did end up solving my own problem like a few minutes after I wrote my post. I realized I was taking in wayyyy toooo much of Satriani's music at the time, so I went to my CD's and DVD's, looked for what I hope would get me going again. Someone asked if I play guitar a lot, the answer is yes, I literally play guitar for too long, everyday for at least 4+ hours a day. Once I got in my long slump, I wanted to play sooo bad, I did, but just couldn't play for as long because I wasn't coming up with new stuff or anything interesting. Back to how I got out of my slump... I was looking through my huge wall of CD's, made sure I didn't touch any instrumental stuff, including Satch, until I get out of my slump. I was going through my CD's, and one CD that seemed to be in my face was, Thin Lizzy---Jailbrake album... Oh yeah!!! I'm back!!! What a great band they were, the band now is ok, just can't compare to the original. I saw Thin Lizzy last August when I saw the Satriani, Deep Purple, and Thin Lizzy concert (the most AMAZING show I've ever been to, and I've seen quite a few good shows). I bet a lot of people here also saw one of those concerts, I wish that day would have lasted longer, what a great show it was! But yeah, I'm out of my slump, thanks to Thin Lizzy's Jailbrake album-my hard rock band will now be covering Thin Lizzy's Jailbrake, one awesome song. And thank everyone who gave me some advice, seems like everyone had the right idea on how to get out of a slump, good thing there is 2TJ to go to, or else I could have still been in my slump!?!

TravisHodges I have also been looking for just about the same pedal as you are looking for. I use to use my Peavey head's gain channel and then throw in my DS-1 for a nice boost for solos. But, my head was givin' out a lot of unwanted feedback, so I had to stop using my heads distortion. I have been just using my DS-1 for my distortion, I can get a pretty good sound out of it, but it isn't what I really want. Just like you, I want that distortion pedal that I can't find. I use to put my EQ pedal after my DS-1 and set it for an added volume boost and more gain, but I still wasn't liking it. I'm going to go looking around this weekend for a new distortion pedal, if I find something good, I'll let you know. I know what you mean about the Boss and Digitech distortion pedals. I have a few Boss pedals, DS-1, DS-2, Metal Zone, and OD-2, the best out of all of them is the DS-1, the metal zone is way too heavey for me. Digitech, they just use other companies sound. But, I'll let you know if I find something good.

Then practice about 6-13 hours a day, and you've got it licked!

Oh Dear, Oh Dear the endless hours of practice, a lifetime of dedication!

Hope I've Helped!

Now, I'm off for 3 hours of practice.
