Zen, sorry for your bad experience. The environment is not good but good music can still rise to the surface.. I think Grappelli and Ponty are musical geniuses, particularly Ponty he is sooo smooth Check out Enigmatic Ocean with Holdsworth or Aurora (plus I am sure you already know all the stuff he did with Uncle Frank!!!
Noppa, I used to play junior hockey and unfortunately fighting has always been and will always be part of the game. Best scream?? Gotta be Roger Daltrey "Won't Get Fooled Again" because it is such a critical part of that song.....

Do The Stu,

Thank's for the input about the picture...it's Joe & myself photographed at a Meet & Greet at a record store for his promotion of "Is There Love In Space".

The picture was taken by an approved Radio Station employee...is the info you've given me based on legal fact?

Although, it might be cool to be involved with Satch in a law suit, and I do think he'd be alright with it...I would like his permission.

I've got a pic with Jimi Hendrix & myself, but he's with the Guitar Gods now.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Peace, Love & Happiness

962 - "Can somebody answer an age-old mystery to me? Who is John Kalodner : John kalodner?"

John Kalodner is an A&R (Artists & Repetoire) guy. He's worked on thousands of albums, and is probably most famous for saving Aerosmith in the 1980s.

So...what do A&R guys do? They are a link between the band and the rest of the record company. They work with artists during the writing and recording process and tell them what they should do if they want their music to be successful..."This song would be better if you waited until after the second verse to go to the chorus.", "This song needs a better hook.", "This song won't be played on the radio with those bad words in it.", etc. John Kalodner isn't (and A&R guys in general aren't) that extreme with everyone...these are just a few examples of things.

To mention Aerosmith again... If you're familiar with the song Janie's Got A Gun, John went nuts and made Steven Tyler change the line "He raped a little bitty baby." to "He jacked a little bitty baby." in the studio so the song would be played on the radio. Steven was really pissed about that, and he sings "raped" whenever he does the song live.

In a more general sense (and this is probably how A&R guys work with musicians like Satch and Steve Vai), A&R guys help artists organize an album's running order, they help choose which songs will be released as singles, and so on...

If you're wondering why JK is listed as "John Kalodner: John Kalodner", well...there are a few different possible explanations. I think the most popular one is simply that John Kalodner's job is to be John Kalodner. If that doesn't make sense...think of an album's liner notes:

Producer: Joe Smith
Engineer: Bob Johnson
Recorded By: John Doe
Manager: Jane Doe
John Kalodner: John Kalodner

Does that make sense? It's just a joke that he's used since the beginning of his career.

michelle - What kind of pizza did you have?
Ya Yo Gakk - We don't know why Jeff Beck isn't on the DVD. Because of that, it isn't right to criticize Eric Clapton...maybe he had nothing to do with it. Maybe Jeff Beck agreed to play only if his performance would not be released. We don't know, so we shouldn't get pissed off at people based on assumptions.
Stevee T - Yeah... As long as you don't use the picture of Joe in an advertisement, you're legally safe.
Well, I gotta go... I'm leaving for the Led Zepagain / Which One's Pink? gig in a few minutes. It's gonna rock...

EDIT - I fixed some horrendous grammatical errors in this post. I guess that's what I get for posting things right before I leave, without proofreading them.

About "The most passionate rock/pop -scream ever" -poll:

Do The Stu: "Steven Tyler on 'Janie's Got A Gun' "; Yes!... Steven for shure is capable for passionate screams!... good choise.

You put another one:"Dave Matthews" on 'Halloween' "; Never even heard of "Dave Matthews Band" ...[ashamed] Gimme that link for that one!

Zenfish: "Jimi Hendrix on 'Born under bad sign' "; ...[even more ashamed]Haven't heard that one either, but am shure gonna dig that "Jimi Blues" from somewhere to check that out... Jimi's music was very much about passion!

SupaaDave: "Robert Plant on 'How many more times' and 'Kashmir' "; Amen!... Robert knows how to scream in a passionate way!... good choise.

LucySorets: "Ian Gillan on 'Child In Time' in a version where Joe imitates the screams with his guitar"; Wow!... 1. Is that recorded? 2. (if yes) Is it available somewhere??... Ian's voice on that one has always been extremely passionate... and I know -as you all- that Joe's guitar can be the most passionate!... what a choise.

michelle: "The opening vocal on 'Monkey Business' by Skid Row"; ...[okay, now I'm getting embarresed] I'll have to check that one too...

mikesb: "Gotta be Roger Daltrey on "Won't Get Fooled Again" because it is such a critical part of that song..."; Might well be so... but because you stated that fighting has always been and will always be part of ice hockey, I'm not gonna support you on this........ naaaah! just kidding... very good one... Roger had probably eaten something more than just pudding that day they recorded it!
P.S. Even if fighting would always be part of the game (in North America I know it will...you cocky machos ;-), it doesn't belong in sports idea, right? (I've been in two fights playing ice hockey...didn't start neither one...didn't lose neither one ;-)

My own first ones were: Bon Scott's croak on "Problem child" from AC/DC's live album "If you want blood you've got it" (-78) at 2:26 right after Angus' guitar solo...

...and...

Prince on "The Beautiful Ones" from "PURPLE RAIN Prince and the Revolution" (-84 ... Great album in all). This one consists of a series of cawings starting from 3:24 until the end...

Now I'll give you some more to ponder if they might be the one; Devin Townsend on "Still My Bleeding Heart" from "VAI; SEX & RELIGION"... that series of cawings at the end of the song...huh? This guy is amazing vocalist...he can sing screaming (as he does a lot on that album)...and softly, nice and easy. P.S. Vai's solo on that song is pretty delicious!

...and how about Rob Halford then? (from Judas Priest, Fight, Halford, has covered Ozzy several times in Black Sabbath)... I'll let you (UK guys especially) name the best (passionate) one from him...

michelle, "finally fixing up the place next door"....don't you hate it when the neighbours' joint is an eye-sore?! hehe It's like....SO degrading....like, oh my GOD!

Yeah, it's a damn shame the stop-the-war march didn't do anything. All it did was confirm that the majority of people (in this country at least) are against the war in the middle east, and that the government don't give a sh*t. It sucks, big time.

Suzie, flying V and others? what are the 'others' you're checkin out? You should have a play with an SG, especially one with a Bigsby Trem, see what you think! SG's are gourmet!
Austin, thanks for that! Yeah it all makes sense, nice to finally know what he's responsible for. I noticed it on a bunch of Vai albums, then recently noticed on the back of one of Joe's records too (i think it was SWTA or FIABD) and thought "hold on a minute....."

So yeah, thanks!

YaYo......My gut feeling is that Jeff Beck, being self-critical like most guitarists are about their own playing, probably decided that he did'nt like his performance and insisted that it not be included.

Our band....Tornado Alley...will be playing tonight at the Crossroads Bar in Pike River Township on Hwy.169...come on out and dig it...!

Who hates Thanksgiving???

This holiday is the worst excuse for 2 days off in the entire US history.

Have you ever noticed that the portrayal of Indians in anything Turkeyday related is always from the 1600's? There's a reason for that. It's because, at that point in the history of our little republic, we hadn't committed mass genocide and turned ourselves into the laughing stock hypocrites that we're seen as today.

People who tell me "but it's the day when you give thanks" seem to forget that we have a day dedicated to the exact same thing around 1 month later- that day is called Christmas. And don't give me that shit "well, Christmas is about sharing"- not the way retail America sees it, it isn't. What it is is a way of telling the people around you that you care about them and that you love them, which is another way of giving thanks for them being in your lives.

As for the biblethumpers, sure- Christmas originated from the mistaken belief that it's to "celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ." Never mind that Jesus was born in March and that almost all the traditions surrounding Christmas are direct ripoffs from the Wiccan holiday "Yule." Besides, there's a LOT of people who don't believe in God, and as for myself, I have no doubt that Jesus existed. But like the Jews, I don't believe he was the son of God.

Anyways, back to Thanksgiving- when's the last time any of us white folks went up to an Indian and said "I'm sorry"? Or ANY minority, now that I think about it. Granted, you'd have to do some searching to locate an Indian, since we've made 'em a little difficult to find. But you could easily find a black family at random and do this. How many of you have done this, or would even contemplate doing it? If not, then "celebrating" Thanksgiving is a hypocritical act for you.

For the record:

I hate and detest Thanksgiving and all that it stands for, because it's rooted in bullshit.

I "celebrate" Christmas by giving gifts to those people in my life whom I cherish and genuinely care about. I give because doing so makes me feel good, which means that for me, Christmas is a selfish act.

(sigh)

962 yea but with how much my guitar sucks it wouldn't be really that same guitar. it'd be the same body and that'd be about it. but I looked at your RGT42 on Ibanez.com and it looked very nice. and then I saw the RG1752 for only $480(%40 off!) at a local store today. sat down and played it. I decided that seven strings are very different and take getting used to. but I still didn't get to research it and I saw an ESP with Floyd Rose, dual humbuckers, and (i believe) rosewood neck or body. It was only $200. what would you suggest as the best within $300?

Suzie, I agree with your fox hunt post 100%. I say we dress the hunters up in a fox suit and see how much fun the game is then. Friggin' A-holes (said in my best Dr Evil voice).

Austin, it was Pizza Hut. Two medium pan pizzas, one with onion, and the second was half shrooms, half plain, all for $12.99 :)

mikesb, I forgot about Won't Get Fooled Again. That's a top 5 for sure!

962, as for the place next door, it's not a dump, it just needs some paint...bad. I'm just glad it's empty. lol! I can put my stereo volume on concert level :) The woman who lived there and was renting the place moved out about 3 months ago. She was handicapped and had full time nurses 24/7. She liked to hear herself, so she would bang on things or let out a good yell. We always new when she was outside or was having a bad night. We didn't mind though. She kind of sounded like that song that goes "Wooo-Hoooo!" by Offspring (I think) lol! or one of those bands I don't listen to. lol!

Miguel, "Wow MICHELLE: you're having pizza, and I'm having tacos and beer...yummy...later" - Life is good, isn't it! lol!

Noppa, how about Janice Joplin's Try (Just a little bit harder). She wails the word 'TRY' like nobody's bidness in that song :) Ooohhh how I love her greatest hits cd. That's the kind of music I listened to growing up.
