jazzzzzy and suzie, I dunno, but maybe you have to download the Soundclick enhanced mp3 player before you can download the mp3's? It kinda sucks, cause the player is 7MB, but that's no problem for you guys with cable or broadband I guess!

Anyway, try that maybe!

jazzzzzy, thanks dude, for putting a link up! And also, no I don't think KFC should deep-fry a whole turkey, but I think they probably will! hehe

by the way...."simon OWNS Stu Hamm"....haha, that's really funny! thanks bro!

suzie, aww thanks, you're too kind! You keep on rockin too, right?!
mikesb, happy half-k!
Pfields, basically, the JS100 is the low-budget version of the proper JS. The JS1000 and JS1200 are almost exactly the same the....the only difference being the colour, and the JS1200 has a slightly different neck pickup.

The JS2000 has the same pickups and wiring as the JS1000, but it has a fixed bridge, and it's a different colour. I think it's kinda odd.....the fixed bridge works nicely and is great for fine tuning, but a JS just isn't the same without it's trem/whammy bar/wang bar....whatever you wanna call it!

I'd personally recommend the JS1000, cause it's a beauty to play and to look at, and because of the arrival of the JS1200, it's got cheaper!

Capri_korn_guy, welcome to t2j!
VFRocker, good to see you around again dude!

The Baptist - last night I was still trying to cut the tricky lick in The Beheading of John the Baptist...
so once I'd learned the lick from the demo I did the usual.. slowed it right down to about 1/2 tempo and started working on it..
the lick is quite long and a bit of a handful..
it's a mix of alternate picking, non-alternate picking, legato and sweeping.. and not in that order either...
as usual the tricky part is the transition between techniques.. and to add to it the fingering is a bit of a "tongue twister" in places [if that makes any sense.. lol]

so.. after 650 million zillion squillion takes I still hadn't cut it... I got real close several million zillion squillion times... good enough for the stage... not good enough under the scrutiny of the studio.....

and then... just as I was thinking.. "fuck it.. I'm off to bed.."

I played the lick.. I felt so amazingly relaxed... if and all of a sudden I felt as though I was playing in slow motion.. like I had loads of time... it didn't feel quite so frantic and rushed...
crazy... for that one take it just rolled off the fingers and felt easy.... so obviously that was the "good take"....

then I had a few more goes at it and it went back to being hard again...lol....
but that really was a strange experience... when something that was taking me right to the ragged edge... and then all of a sudden having all the time in the world....

maybe for that fleeting moment my technique shifted up a gear t a place that it's never been before....
if that's what's happening then I'll not complain.. lmao...

Holy shit guys - Joe Pass. What a guitar player!!! Jeez...

Clarky - Great stuff, man! I think I know the lick you mean, and I can understand your discomfort with it... lol... But yeah - I love it when that kind of thing happens to my playing. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen very often at all though. Maybe like, once a year or so. Which is gay... lmao... Also (and I've been meaning to ask you this for a while actually); you're obviously a guy who's into footie, as are your sons, and you have a PS2 in your house. So, have you ever played Pro Evolution Soccer 4? Shit dude, it's the best fucking game in the world ever!!!!! lol

Mowlie - My hotmail account is real screwy lately, so for some reason it won't let me do anything with that e-mail you sent me regarding the Venables/Thompson case. Any chance you could add my name and sent it on for me, bro? This is a really important issue and I don't want to leave my name off of it just because of hotmail being FUBAR...

Hey joe, I red recently and interview where you were talkin' about Billy Gibbons "broken cable" sound...

I think I got a possible solution. I think he uses a special control pedal. I know it exists. It a control pedal sided with a long plastic tube that can fit on and control any pedal knob. When you move the pedal (just as a wah), you can control anything you want. Just "plug" it on any distortion pedal which the gain button has contact malfunction (I'm sure your guitar tech can work on it), and GO ON MAKE ANOTHER RECORD !

I'm working on a guitar version of the Rite Of Stravinsky, trying to imitate the sounds of the orchestra (reeds, strings, brasses, percussions). I'd very much like to send you a copy. Where can I ?

I apologize if my english doesn't good.

Friendly, from France Brice DELAGE

yoda - the lick in the Baptist is about 1/2 way through the 1st movement...
so we're past the quiet part with the "This Love" type of clean guitars where Salome starts to dance for Herod....
the next part is where it starts to get heavy and the lead guitar is playing those quick rising runs each ending with a long held note...
"the lick" [I guess 'section' would be better] occurs in the next section where the music modulates to Dm.. there's a fair bit of harmonic / meldic minor in there... the decending arpeggios that are not swept but non-alternately picked because they are played more like a lick than a regular arp... and they are interleaved with little Mozart-ish figures [with appogiatura.. sot of Turkish Rhondo style / ripped off... lol..].. and the section ends with a sizeable sweep [Bb major I think] into a long high note[B I think] that takes you into the quick rising runs where the tempo doubles.....

god.. I don't even know if this makes any sense... lmao....

alternatively... lol... it's the fiddly bit betwen the quit bit and the funky bit... lol...

have you every tried working that section out???
it's a bitch.... no question.. and I'm dreading that bit when we do it live...

I'd be interested to see what you come up with if you try to work it out.... then I'll show you how it really goes.. see how close your ears get you to the real version...

not played that footie game... we have FIFA 2000 and something.. it is a good 'un?

oh yeah.. I just found out... there will be a David Cross rhythm section rehearsal on the 19th.... fancy coming??? it'll be a Mick's place down at the seaside... if you're interested I'll check with Mick.... DC now has a new drummer... Del blew him out.. wanted nothing to do with it.... Mick tells me that this new drummer is a bit handy...

Clarky - No, I've never tried learning that lick/line/section/passage/whatever actually. I've been too busy trying to trasncribe John Scofield and Pat Metheny stuff in a vein attempt to find out why the fuck they sound so cool when, essentially, they're playing all the wrong notes!!! LMAO. I'll defintely give your lick a shot though.

So you're FIFA guys huh? It's weird - they're kind of rivals... lol. Pro Evo is fucking ace. Really lifelike. From what I've heard of FIFA, Pro Evo apparently takes more skill and tactical awareness to play. All the magazines have called "the best football game ever". You should defnitely check it out...

I'm defintely up for coming to that rehearsal too, if it would be okay with everybody. I think I'm going to be in Hastings that weekend though, so I'll probably have to catch the train to Worthing (that's Mick's place, right?) and meet you at the station if that's okay.

Stevee T - Dude, that must have been fucking nuts! Did you chat to either of them (Joe Pass or Pat Martino I mean)? I bet those guys would have some interesting stuff to say...

wow! today is America's greatest commercial day!!! shop till you drop! kinda crazy, but who am I to give people shit if they take advantage of the holiday sales? I just find shopping at placed like the mall of america stupid. last year I went with a bunch of friends and all we ended up doing was going to the food court cause everything that was being sold on sale sucked. The only place that had some decent sales was ummm, nothing. I really want to see a Santa clause at hot topic though.

Thanksgiving dinner was GREAT!!! My cousins werent as annoying this time. They were guests so I had to be nice to them. But I did manage to sneak in to the KFC and get some good ol' fried chicken for myself. I was surprised it was open. I am not a fan of thanksgiving recipes but the pumpkin pie was pimp. Later on I went over to my ex gf's place and got trashed with her friends. Then we went to the bar and got a little more trashed.

I am about to leave to the MOA with my ex, I hope it turns out good. It will be fun to hang out with her again and see where she takes me later on ;)

I know that someone posted a review a day, or two after he played the Beacon Theatre in NYC this year, and they specifically mentioned which model glasses Joe was wearin'.

May take a little searching!

Good luck & welcome to the site!

DCK, Zen.. Those first few Dimeola albums were always my favorites from a shred point of view. I kinda lost interest when he started doing all the World Sinfonia type stuff. I did see him in the late 90'ies at the Toronto Jazz Festival with Jean Luc Ponty and Stanley Clarke, they were phenomenal. I just picked up a Montreaux DVD with Al concerts from '86 and '93 but I ain't checked it out yet. Will report when I have watched the stuff....

There is a shitload of Montreaux stuff being released on DVD these days...

Yoda - I know what you mean about the wrong notes. I really like Scott Henderson too. He'll take a normal lick and then twist it a bit and it sounds so hip. The one thing I remember from jazz band was the Frank telling us if we were soloing and hit a wrong note, play a few notes and then hit that Mother effer again. That makes it sound like you hit the first one on purpose. lol Good luck on getting your lines to swing.
