Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Organic Milk
WASHINGTON - The government has found traces of a rocket fuel chemical in organic milk in Maryland, green leaf lettuce grown in Arizona and bottled spring water from Texas and California. What's not clear is the significance of the data, collected by the Food and Drug Administration through Aug. 19.
Sufficient amounts of perchlorate can affect the thyroid, potentially causing delayed development and other problems.
But Environmental Protection Agency (news - web sites) official Kevin Mayer called for calm, saying in an interview Tuesday: "Alarm is not warranted. That is clear."

Report: Giambi Testified He Used Steroids
SAN FRANCISCO - New York Yankees (news) slugger Jason Giambi injected himself with human growth hormone in 2003 and also used steroids for at least three seasons, according to his grand jury testimony reviewed by the San Francisco Chronicle.
The testimony given in December 2003 to the federal grand jury investigating BALCO contradicts Giambi's public proclamations that he never used performance-enhancing drugs.
Giambi described how he injected human growth hormone in his stomach, testosterone into his buttocks, rubbed an undetectable steroid knows as "the cream" on his body and placed drops of another, called "the clear," under his tongue, the Chronicle reported on its Web site Wednesday.

Worst mistake of the day...taking a pill my mom gave me to numb my mouth, then without realising it had worn off, drank orange juice...OUCH!!!
My dumbass dentist took me off their books so the closest appointment they can give me is Tuesday...TUESDAY MY ASS!!! I'm going the dental hospital tomorrow...which is good cause the other dentist has a habit of ripping apart gums during checkups...

Jelly - I phoned Halifax. Turns out that my card expired on November 30th, so that's why the damn machine ate it. God knows why the stupid bank hadn't sent me a replacement. You just can't get the staff these days...

It is not human beings for once . . .
Mount St. Helens Is State's Top Polluter
SEATTLE - Washington state's top polluter isn't a pulp mill, a power plant or refinery. It's the newly awakened Mount St. Helens.
Since the volcano began erupting in early October, it has been pumping out 50 to 250 tons a day of sulfur dioxide, the lung-stinging gas that causes acid rain and contributes to haze. At peak, that's more than double the amount from all the state's industries combined.
Normally, the state's No. 1 polluter is a coal-fired power plant owned by the Canadian firm TransAlta. The plant churned out 200 tons a day of sulfur dioxide until regulators demanded $250 million worth of renovations, bringing the level down to 27 tons a day.
Tough to get those kind of results from a volcano.
"You can't put a cork in it," said Greg Nothstein of the Washington Energy Policy Office.
Because the area around St. Helens is so sparsely populated, officials say they haven't heard complaints about respiratory problems linked to the emissions. But people with breathing ailments probably would feel the effects if they lived close to it, said Bob Elliott, executive director of the Southwest Clean Air Agency.
"We are very fortunate, in terms of the impact on human health, that Mount St. Helens is pretty remote," Elliott said.
Worldwide, sulfur dioxide emissions from volcanoes add up to about 15 million tons a year, compared to the 200 million tons produced by power plants and other human activities.

zen - "up your street" means... "to your taste"... "you should like"...
that sort of thing
mikesb - Lulu in a baby doll... on all fours taking it up the hoop... gnawing on the still beating heart whilst it is still in the chest of a teenage goth chick....
civgeek - the guy that wrote that thing is a complete nutter...
I'd love to spend an evening with him in the pub to talk on this in great detail...
over 10 or 15 pints of Stella of course..
and obviously a good fight in the car park at closing time..
yoda - never understimate the hilarity of stupidy especially when it's in the guise of well informed advice and rantings...
ocps - Monty Python is not really subtle or sarcastic.. it's just insane.. lmao...
Try out a movie like Snatch.... that's proper English comedy..
optical - and I know that you knew that I knew dispite me feigning not knowing.. lmao..
climber - I can't say that I have a fave Vai song.... to be honest.. I've never realkly thought about it..
zen - and never underestimate the depths of my stupidity... lmao..
if you listen to nothing else by Vai... do listen to Tender Surrender.... I really do feel that this is most likely the one single piece of music he's writen that will appeal to you... because it is a jazzy blues ballad with a gentle rock edge...
it really is a very beautiful piece of music..
