Hello Joe, Have seen you three times in Portland at the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall, previously the"Paramount Theater". You rocked each time. Although on your first appearance you were obviously having some sound problems, I spent a large portion of my time as close to your sound man as possible up in the seats it appeared that you couldnt hear yourself to well through the monitors.Your signaling and a few songs and you were off. Anyhow,it appeared as if you had the science of sound down for the Schnitzer on you latest concerts, and now on your last performance in the northwest you went with the new auditorium just north of Vancouver. That show I missed. Many people are hooked on the Schnitzer when it comes to quality sound and along with that is a much more personal or "intimate" feeling of what the musician is relaying through the music. Will you play there in the future?

I greatly appreciate your time, and I thank you much, Dan Sturgeon InAwe

Slansh - my latest plan for each studio session is to spend a couple of hours working on the David Cross set, then a couple of hours recording...
I tried it last night and it seems to work well for me...
I now have all of the DC tracks roughly sorted - not good enough for stage yet though... and I managed to record the drums, bass, strings and harp for The Rape of the Sabine Women... still have the choirs, brass and guitars to go... but it was a great session....
once the Rape is done, your solos come next....

delfino - hahaa... the stuff of dreams.... and then Clarky clicks his heals and wakes up with Toto... at home... lol....

if I was with Satch and he cracked open a can of Bud, then I'd crack open a can of diet coke.... cos if he's not drinking then I won't either... lol...

on the IUMA tunes, the backing tracks were mostly from guitar mag CD's... however, Satan, Mutha, The Rape, Idol Threat, PRM Boxter, Balena and Talking to Stone were all backing tracks I made at home......

Satan Salad: here's how it was done.... and it's seriously crude.... because I didn't have a studio at the time... lmao
the sequenced backing track is just bass guitar and and drums..
the sequencer was an Atari ST with Cubase 3.0 the bass guitar and the drum kit metals [hats, cymbals etc] came from an ancient Roland U220, the drums [kick, snare and toms - which I sampled myself] came from an equally ancient Akia S900 sampler..
the S900 and U220 were connected to a cheep little 8 channel mixer
the mixer output recorded the bass and drums onto a mini-diskman
also input into the mixer was a 2nd mini-diskman and my Digitech 2120...
I played back the drum / bass mini-disk and played a rhythm guitar part - recording it onto the other mini-diskman..
I then swap the disks over and played a 2nd rhythm guitar part in unison with the 1st over the backing disk which now has drums / bass and one guitar...
the result was a backing track with drums / bass and 2 guitars...
Satan is in the key of Dm... so I tuned the rhythm guitars down a whole tone to get the heaviness [from the 6th string - D, G, C, F, A, D]
a few days later I was work in Cambridge so I took the 2 mini-diskman's, my little Zoom 9002 PRO, Wrath [RG470] and a Crybaby....
MD [backing track] --> Zoom --> MD [recording]
and then I cut the solo....

crude or what... lol...

ovation - lol... Satch could audition me for it and then be like "shit... what's all the fuss about.... "... lmao..
SteeveT - you know if I become Prime Minister the first thing I'll do will be to restore the Empire.... lol...

SteeveT - I was listening to the Baptist yesterday.... and it's only just sinking in as to just how 'on form' I was when I recorded it....
now I'm working on the David Cross set, it just seems so dull in comparison... even the guitar playing I did on the latest DC album [which I quite liked at the time] just seems pretty uninteresting....

shit... where do I go from here?

ocps - ha.. one more thing to add regarding the dogs bollox....
it's ok to just say "it's the dogs.."... it means the same thing... although the word bollox is not spoken, it is implied.. lol..

if you want to hear a nice London accent spoken freely and containing plenty of local slang, grab the movie Snatch on DVD.... every single character reminds my of someone that is either a pal of mine or my dads... good movie too...

yoda - yes I got the text thanks.... I've saved the number etc....
don't worry about not getting me a card... you're still on the card list for next year... lol...
it's the pink envelopes you have to worry about... lmao..
bro... I got to get you round here to check out the new recordings.... you is gonna love em...

also.. there is a DC rehearsal on the 9th... you up for that??

alexandre - have you ever thought of singing the melody and then playing as a means of writing? - rather than working out the melodies on guitar... it makes for nice lyrical melodies..
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone.....

Clarky - LOL Okay. Is the rehearsal on the ninth of January or the ninth of February? I have a gig on the ninth of February... If it's January, then yeah I'm up for that. Again, I'll be in Hastings that Sunday because of my teaching on the following Monday, so it'll have to be a train job. But my student loan will only be four days old so there'll be plenty of it left... LOL

Steve- I'm doing well. Now I have the JS 100, I feel motivated to start teaching myself again. For a while, all I would do is drop D tune the guitar and play that. It feels odd to say, but I'll be turning 20 once the ball drops in NYC. Man time flies. Also, come Sunday, I'll be playing guitar for a yr. hard to believe. HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERY1 AND GET BETTER SATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clarky *rubs chin*...I see...Here comes the conundrum...do I spend my money on tickets to see Vai in 2005...or do I spend it on recording equipment...btw how much will your album be when its completed, so I can set that amount of money aside so I can buy it instantly lol

Steven Wilde Hey man, this backing track is turning out pretty good, although theres probably room for improvement, I'll try to get it done for tonight, I doubt that I'll get any leads into it as they come out pretty rubbish with my current recording stuff lol However I may put in some rhythm parts...in drop C tuning :-)

Hi, Joe. I like your new album, Is There Love In Space?, specially, Lifestyle. But, you don't give the text in the cover of the album, include in your web site, WHY? I can't hear perfectly, because I'm Indonesian, and I can't speak or hear English language perfectly. I'm sorry about my bad language. Thank you so much for your attention, more thank's if you give me answer. See you...

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Steven, thankyou for the card! That was very kind. All went well today, but 4th January is crunch day for us with the house- make or break, unfortunately, mental torture though it is! Have a good evening, whatever you doing!

Pfields- I live near London, - I'm a teacher over here, so am enjoying my holidays at the moment and don't want to go back! :-) I'm not going to give that another thought though today of all days!! Hope you enjoy New Years too!
