OCPS470 err .. i did not mean to mislead anybody.. i am contributing a track and a lead to a comp project for world vision.. thats all.. about 8 or 10 pro players and me on the project. i was asked by a friend as a favor. My lead will be featured next to some scary players..so i played mostly pentatonic .. thats in character for me.. that is it..

GUITARNETT:

Thanx for taking some time to listen to my songs...

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/chunkyvomitmusic.htm

For the CIRCLES cover, making the exact intro was easy...hehe...I just plainly took the actual real pad intro from Joe's CD and slowly cross mixed my version into it. If you listen closely, you'll hear little texture changes and some out of sync shakers in the area where both tracks jump over each other.

Sorry, no JS guitars in there...I play self made guitars and violins. I do own a few Strats and an exquisite LesPaul. But mostly, I play my self made axes!

Hey Joe Hope your feeling better, Your two months older than me, ,saw you twice House of blues in Chicago g3 and Aragon Brawl room Chicago, I always tell people when you come out of a Joe show you have to ask yourself if you just saw what you think you saw, Flying in a blue dream fits. anyway I just joined and have a specific question, I have a 10 year old son who has dabbled on guitar for about 2-3 years Now however he picks it up every night after school, I just bought him a Baby Taylor so he can get past the constant tune and re-tune and focus on the actual playing. I play, since I was a kid and we have a complete band downstairs with lights P.A the works.I did this to expose him early, Now that he is getting serious I want to ask you what is the best way to teach him , I read anything I can get where you discuss teaching and have the basics, Is there a good structured way to teach, I thought about creating a bound practice schedule for him so he covers all the various elements on a regular basis and so he has structure, What would you suggest ? or is there a program out there I don't know about It would be great if you put one together, I just ordered your guitar secrets and have an idea that will be along this line but I guess what I want is a structured program for him. This little guy is a guitar parahna he can't put it down. He reads tab and can play lines after just hearing them once so I want to keep him going Hope you can Help. The next time your within 500 miles of Chicago I bringing him to the show if that doesn't inspire him nothing will.

Happy new year Joe, listen I just dropped in to say hang in there. I had pnumonia around this time last year. I never ever, ever want to get even close to getting that sick again. Its pretty unreal what it does to you. It took me like a month or so before I could function again. What a life altering expierence, anyway stay warm over there in the bay. - another album!!! oh yeah bring it on! cant wait - I still cant get enough of the last one. Souls of Distortion makes my hair stand up evey time. You really are brilliant, and what is really amazing is the quality of your work after all these years. You still got it ( not that you ever lost it ) but you still have that wonderfull soul that comunicates so much feeling and attitude, thank you for that.

dck - I don't have any modules for the Triton yet... but I'm hoping to get the orchestral modules in for the 2nd album....

mikesb - maybe the reason that there were fewer tendon problems was pace.. yes they had big giant strings... however... they were no where near as quick as a modern player....
on the other hand, tendon problems have been known about in the orchestral world for hundreds of years..
but just look at how quick violinists, pianists, etc can play..
so to those guys it's nothing new...
maybe, technically, the electric guitar is simply catching up..
steven wilde - thinking on all the midi stuff... yes it's all a little overwhelming at first... so just don't try to learn too much at any one time.... little by little is best.. that way all the information sticks...
delfino - I used to love 'skiny tops, heavy bottoms'.. the reason I dropped down to 'hybrids' is because of the guitar... I found that the RG plays better with 9's or 'hybrids'.. anything fatter just felt all worng..
for me.. speed was not really a problem on higher guages... I'm not a huge user of legato.. I mostly pick everything... it's the bending and vibrato.... and I guess just the overall feel..
tastey - I have to agree with you... I personally think that Vai can be a very soulful player... I don't think he's an ego type either... to me, all the showing off just looks like he's having a ball on stage and putting on a show....
ocps - jeez... 8 guage on a scalloped neck in Eb....
simply mental...

for the David Cross set I'm using 9 guage hybrids but the whole guitar is drop tuned a tone.... it's not as bad as I expected.... although I'm toying with the idea of moving up a guage for this tuning....

zen - my album is much more melodic than the IUMA tunes because it is more composed.....
it contains some very light moments.... and some very heavy moments too...
the album was writen to be very dynamic... lots of light and shade..

Clarky:Happy new year bro.Interesting y mentioned about the electric guitar catching up,i,ve thought that for some time. The acoustic purists i know are hell bent the acoustic guitar is THE way, which is somewhat annoying if like me,y feel y can let loose on electric.I,ve been given that double look of "ah yeah, but can he do it on an acoustic wink wink" shit for a long time & the fact is i cant, much to their cheer with lil overheard convos of "well if he cant on an acoustic, hes not that good"strange how that effected me,i felt so low & useless, but on the other hand, give them a feckin electric t see what noise they make, lol.I feel electric guitar is fighting t become an art form & the peeps stopping it from happening are...........MUSICIANS.I say this because for 4 pro years i spent playing with a scottish trad band, which although extremely interesting was way out of context for the player i had become.Electricity on any level seemed frowned apon, felt like saying ok take the rig away & play t 7000 peeps. It really is stupid & more than probably one of the reasons we find ourselves bustin our buts so damn hard.

A final word.Electric musicians have harnessed the beauty of classical/jazz etc work & have realized it for some time,i just need t hear a certain Les Paul,Tal Farlow,Malmsteen or a 17 year old Jason Beckers "Perpetual Burn" which i happen t think was a landmark for guitar, more than often put down as "widdley widdley"by the no need t get of yer ass & actually do it police.aaaaaaaaaaaaaah ok rant over, lol

Clarky, interesting re tendon problems.. I believe there are two kinds... The overworked overused tendon fatigue kind, such as experienced by classical musicians and the very few metal/rock mofos who actually practice ridiculous fast runs for several hours a day, and then the "incidental" kind. Hurting yourself with a monster bend etc and then having it get exacerbated by continuing to use the digit rather than letting it recover... Just like when we were growing up and happened to strain a tendon in the ankle with a poorly placed kick of the ball. If that happened early in the season sometimes the tendon would never recover till the off season coz we just could not stop kicking the damn ball.. That is the type of tendon problem I am referring to with the heavy gauge, high action, big tension dudes who perform monster bends... SRV must of had hands of steel....

Stevee T, off to see a buddy about some part time work with his construction firm. He and I went to college together. I have reached a time/place/station in life that allows me to be selective with my work habits soooo, I am trying to work an absolute minimum and spend more time with the upbringing of my kids, skiing, golf and music, not necessarily in that order. I wanna get some equipment/software and start recording some of my ideas... I also want to get back into interviewing guitarists/musicians. Plus as I have mentioned on here before, the onerous task of sight reading music (groaan)...

In other words just "tendon" to business LOL

Mikesb – I’m going through the sight-reading blues a bit myself. I have to know ‘An Afternoon In Paris’ By tomorrow at 3PM and have some method of soloing over the changes. The soloing part shouldn’t too hard, ii-V-I, in a couple different keys. But the head. I’m so not used to playing what someone else wants me to.LOL

Since you people were begging for more here’s a little diddy that brightened my day a few times in high school.
I know you know this so sing along.

A few days ago I bought the DVD "G3 - Live in Denver" and I have to say, that Yngwie and Steve are great musicians, too, but you are absolutely the best!!!

Hey y'all... Been a long time...

Hope you're all doing well. Joe - I'm glad you're feeling better. Just keep takin' it easy, bro. You're too important to us to go away...

Anyone else been to simscustom.com? It's where Vai, Billy Sheehan, Mark King (Level 42) all get their guitars fitted with the coolest LEDs and lasers! I'm savin' up to send one of my 7-strings their way... It's about £350. You only need to look at the Bad Horsie guitar to know how cool LEDs can be...

I love playing with my pierced nipples at work...
