Hadley- It's a harmonic. But you need to depress the bar before you do the harmonic, that is why you need your left hand to do that , and also to touch the string at the harmonic point ( left thumb). Then slowly let the bar come back up, so you raise the pitch of the harmonic. That's how I do it anyway. CLARKY can tell you for sure, he's the.... mmm ... he's good!

Hey Joe,
I really enjoy your newest cd. I work 10 or so hours a day and when I get to work I put in the head phones and sail away all day long.
I have always had the desire to play guitar but as I grew up in a VERY conservative family I started my music career with piano. Then in H.S. I played the Trumpet untill I finished college. It was when my son wanted to take guitar lessons that I finally got the chance to play.
I have two guitars. 1 is a Ibanez PF 6 string and the other is a electric RG series. My question is.....when I played trumpet, 1 valve combination renders a certain note ( in most cases). But on the guitar there are so many ways to play the same chord and many ways to play the same note on different strings and this all seem so strange and wild to me.
If you could tell me one thing to practice so I could get the most out of learning the fret board and when to be where at the right time, what would that be. Right now I play you songs by picking by ear with a lot of trial and a whole lot more of error. Any help would be appreciated.
Keep on rocking!

Namm Man - Of course I care, but no I don't have a question. I just find it amusing that you corrected me, and not the person who first posted it.

HI Joe,
I was just wondering about how you approach new and old music. How do you discover new bands and artists? Do you ever wander around a record store browsing, do you search online, do your friends bring stuff to your attention? Also, how often do you revisit your old favourite recordings? It's pretty obvious Jimi's albums are close at hand, but do you ever get the urge to just stick something like A Night At The Opera on just to listen to?
Cheers,
James B

i have 2 white persians, and we call it "shed" instead of "malt", if we are talkin about the same thing....then of course there is hairballs that they puke up too...lol...no outfit is complete without cat hair....
thats exactly what i think - cat hair adds character! ;D
i have 3 cats - 2 male (16 & 9) and 1 female (4).
i have to keep my big cat Poo away from Kitty (female) he hasn't liked her since i brought her home from the vet (she was a stray) the big bugger bashes her up :(

Re: civgeek
Delfino I believe this is what you were after.
Main Entry: molt
Etymology: alteration of Middle English mouten, from Old English -mutian to change, from Latin mutare -- more at MUTABLE intransitive senses : to shed hair, feathers, shell, horns, or an outer layer periodically
transitive senses : to cast off (an outer covering) periodically; specifically : to throw off (the old cuticle) -- used of arthropods
Malt is in beer
BEER GOOD! now lets throw off those old cuticles!! WooHoo!

Hello, how is everyone?
Cuthbert: Hey wasn't it Bill Gertz or some other author, who documented where Russian Special Forces removed all the WMDs and the equipment use to produce them from Iraq, to Syria months before US troops were deployed?
I am waiting to see if Israeli or the US governments will allow the nuclear reactor Russia is building for the Iranians to go online. Remember what Israel did to the reactor our French friends were building Saddam in the early 80's. I am looking for a repeat. Any thoughts??

Adrián, my statement "Shelvis has left the building" was making fun of the way they used to tell the audience Elvis had left after a show. I was leaving the computer, so I, in turn, "left the building". lol! It means - I'm outta here!
Powerslave, cheers to Mr. Entropy. There's nothing like doing nothing. It's highly underrated :)
962, "and because I'm not a self-righteous cock-sucker. Capiche? " It was sooo not good to take a sip of my drink just before reading that. I almost hurt myself! LMMFAO!!! Also, HB2U if I didn't say so already :)
Steven, my tooth is feeling better, thanks. It hurt for a day or two, with no help from the Advil I took. Ya know, I hate when you go in to a doctor with no pain, and come out hurtin'. It's just not right. lol! Hope you're doing well my friend.
Brother al, no Vai shirts on that site. Google search for them. I'm curious what's available too.
Mikey, I miss you all up in herre!
Chunkyvomit, I have nothing to post to you, I just wanted to say chunkyvomit. lmao! Hi, How are you? How'd you pick a great name like that? lol!
Cats Rule!
bluebuffalo, best wishes for your wife to get well and for you to find work.
Dev, " I love playing with my pierced nipples at work... " wouldn't it be more fun playing with SOMEONE ELSE'S pierced nipples at work? Just wondering? lol!
7 pages to go, but it's bedtime. Later peeps!
JOE - GET WELL SOON!! WE LOVE YOU!
