For those of you who dont like the dentist dont read on...

I had to have a filling last week and from the day after I was experiencing really bad toothache so much so that it was giving me a raging headache. Anyway this morning I went back as the pain was too much to bear and especially as I didnt get any sleep last night. I get in the chair and, to cut a long story short, the dentist decided to remove the nerve from my tooth and then to get me to come back next week for root-canal surgery. Oh joy oh joy!!!!

Aarren

Oh and the best bit is that if I hadnt had the filling I wouldnt have known at all as there was no pain before the filling!!!!!!

Joe, great to hear that you are back on your feet!

I need some help guys. Has anyone learned how to play "Cathedral" by Eddie VH? The tab is online and seems pretty accurate, but having to do the volume swells on almost every single note seems pretty difficult. I have a chorus pedal, but no delay pedal.....is the delay pedal absolutely necessary? Any tips on how to play this song would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Mowlie Ouch indeed...I went t' dentist on thursday with a "family booking" style thing where I went with my mom and dad as we had just registered with that particular dentist...due to the other one being a gum-ripper rather than a dentist...

anyhoo...to cut a short story shorter...my mom has fillings missing which need to be re-filled, my dad grinds his teeth in his sleep and needs them "smoothed" and I have perfect dental hygiene...

I like my new dentist....lol, I still hate going though, its just imagining what could happen while in the waiting room...if they know about how I eat 3 bowls of cheerios a day....

What were your grandmothers doing at age 66?

66-Year-Old Romanian Woman Gives Birth

BUCHAREST, Romania - Doctors said a 66-year-old Romanian woman became the world's oldest woman recorded to give birth when she delivered a daughter by cesarean section. The child's twin sister was stillborn, they said.

Romanian doctors at the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest said Adriana Iliescu, who was artificially inseminated, delivered her daughter — Eliza Maria — early Sunday.

The child was born more than six weeks short of a full 40-week pregnancy term, a hospital spokeswoman said. The girl weighed just 3.19 pounds, less than half the weight of an average newborn, and was in the intensive care unit but breathing on her own, the spokeswoman said.

Late Sunday, the baby had her first meal_ a few drops of glucose.

"We are happy that the mother and child are normal and we hope this will continue," said Dr. Bogdan Marinescu, who runs the hospital.

Doctors performed the emergency cesarean section after the smaller of Iliescu's twins died in the womb, the spokeswoman said. That child weighed just 1.54 pounds, she said.

"The mother is doing well — she is saying she has been given a new lease of life," the spokeswoman said, reading from a statement.

Iliescu underwent fertility treatment for nine years, including procedures to reverse the effects of menopause, before being artificially inseminated, Marinescu told reporters.

He said he successfully inseminated Iliescu on his first attempt, and that she initially was carrying triplets but lost the third fetus after nine to ten weeks.

Asked why he had let a 66-year-old woman become pregnant, Marinescu said: "She was in the right condition to carry a pregnancy."

There is no law in Romania stipulating a maximum age for artificial insemination, and he declined to comment on ethical questions regarding the pregnancy.

However, Marinescu said he was impressed by Iliescu's faith in God and her determination to have a child. Doctors say the mother and child may be released from the hospital in the next few weeks.

Guinness World Records lists two 63-year-old women who have given birth: Rosanna Della Corte of Italy in 1994 and Arceli Keh of California in 1996. News reports, however, have put Della Corte's age at 62 when she gave birth.

mikesb - Well you know, "Ya don't nkow what ya don't know."
That Stray Cats DVD is going to get a lot of time on the player. I'm a sucker for a good Rock-a-billy guitar. I also picked up Triumph: live at the US festival that I will be watching today. I haven't bought a CD in a while, but I am racking up the DVDs. LOL As a side note I get to tour the new engineering building at school tomorrow. It is to be done in Dec. So, I get to geek out with other stidents. Should be fun.

kd6aaj - An electrition huh. At least that is something that you can take anywhere. I was a union carpenter for a long time before we moved up here. Then I started my own company while my wife finished her degree. After she graduated I went back and I am now finishing up year 3 of 8 in Civil Engineering/Urban Planning. I never got to be a rock star either. Got close to being signed.
There are lots of great players on this site. Just take it slow. Be accurate. Flying is a tough song . You might want to start with Crush of Love or something at that difficulty if your lead chops are not strong. It will help you not to get frustrated. As for the amp, I would look at saving up a few $$ when you get back to work and get a Pandora. I have one and I use for practicing as well as live. It's a cool little unit. It's about $200.
I play .009s, too. I think most of us on the site do. My hands would definately protest if I tried to play anything else. Good luck and remember practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

SLANSHROOM- Hey Man, i am so glad You are well! I hate it and i am actually in pain when My Freind's are sick! Glad to hear your about normaly! My Day's made! Oh, I have been playing for exatctly 2 years now, Started on my birthday! of 03' But, No big deal, but if You want to here Me, You can go to http://www.abovethenumbers.com There are some stuff I recorded, I do all My own instrument's, and write al the tunes! I am still learning an awful lot, and in the very beggining stages! Thank's for the interst! Again, i am thrilled to see Your up, and about! :-)............................KRIS RICHARDS- Hi, Welcome to the site! on tremelo's, it depend's what Your prefernce is, the edge pro's are very whipy, as they only run with 1 spring, Floyd rose- on the other hand makes varied model's, My favorite is the JT-500-580LP (lo-profile) It's a plate trem system, But it's not as whippy, and still remain's in tune despite the abuse. You really cannot go wrong with either though! Vai, and Satch, usually preffer their's a bit firmer, such as the Floyd's, But experiment around, and see what You like the best! The plate trem's are the more sturdy! Good luck, and Hope to here you Rockin' out!

Cube Thanks for the JP update.

Kris Richards I have an edge pro that I have beat the crap out of for almost 20 years and it still works great. You might also look at the Ibanez ZR bridge. Go to Trem units an then at the bottom of the list are the two units.

How do like your edge-pro? It really is sturdy eh! What's your version's on the S'body contour? with ZR? I Love My Floyd rose Lp-580, is it similar? They felt differnt in the stores? My ultimate last stop guitar, Is The JS-series 1200, candy apple red medium fret's and none binding! I would replace the fred, and pf- and repalce with my seymour duncan(kneck) and EMG-hz(bridge) would be the only changes! Thank's again!

ocps - I've also found that many good acoustic players have a tendancy to pick the strings way too hard which momentarily sharpens the sounding notes... so they sound all out of tune when playing electrics....

hhmm.. write a symphony.... that sounds interesting...
a full metal symphony but one that sticks to stuff like 'sonata form'... now there's a challenge..

Zen - I'd really love to have a very good classical [nylon strung] electro-acoustic... with a cutaway too...
but the really nice one's are big money...

my main acoustic is a Washburn D-21... she's lovely...

I used to have an Epiphone ES335... it was a lovely guitar... just not really my sort of thing though...
it had lots of tone and tons of style.... therefore ... not for me... lol...

Tele's?? I just can't get on with them....

Slansh - once I've got the DC set down.. I'll have a stab at your track..

I like the sliding notes in Flying, because I have a bad habit of gripping the neck. The left index finger is kinda stiff. The sliding notes force me to let go.

"Let go of your feelings, Luke. Use the Force!"

At age 9 or ten I cut my hand with a hatchet, injuring my left index hand (tendon?) never saw a doctor. finger moved when I moved my thumb. Bar Chords of steel!

Then, at age 25, I sliced the same finger open with pocket knife (thats why they say never use a knife as a pry-bar) that nicked the tendon in my finger joint. Now the finger is better (but not perfect)! Bizzaro. I believe in God! What are the odds? Home do-it-yourself surgery.

As a teen, I had 13's on my acoustic so I could play louder while leading worship in my church youth group. We didn't have a PA for yourh group, so louder strings seemed important.

Bar chords were tough at first, but after a while, I could open a can like Pop-eye. Not anymore, electrical work fixed that. Too much shoveling and abusing my wrists with hammering, and crimping wires.

When I finish my apprenticeship, I want to get a safer job. My hand are too valuable! Maybe a job fixing computers or guitars?

I could never quit playing guitar now!

Any advice from anyone is welcome!

Ed, KD6AAJ
