Somehow I have become a sushi addict over the past year and a half. As I shovelled it in last night while contemplating the typical pictorial place setting I decided that if by some good fortune I was ever to record an instrumental guitar album it would be called "Sushi, The Album" It of course would have cool instrumental tracks like Hamachi, Unagi Kaibashira and of course a short sharp track called "Wasabi". If any of you beat me to the punch give credit where credit is due.... The recording would of course be "raw" live in the studio..

Zen, your album should be called "Stories From/Of the Wood" lol..... "The Pinocchio Suite"

mikesb - As a carpenter for so long I am still facinated by building in most regards. Wiring would not be one of them. I couldn't give a rip how it was done. It just better freakin work!! We are supposed to "state of the art" but we'll see how many corners get cut in the process. The building was ready to go and then steel $ went through the roof so now it's wait and see. The lab that I work in will be all setup because the prof that runs it brings in the scratch. So i'm not too worried. Can't say the same for some of the other labs. I don't think I'll licking any columns though.

Cuth - I haven't confirmed this, but the Dean told us it was because we, as a country, don't produce very much steel anymore. Especially here on the west coast. Therefore we have to purchase it and from there it's in the markets hands. Nothin to do but pony up the chickens and pies. I'm sure there is some connection to the tarrifs.

For those who are so inclined, there is a contest to win a Kiko Loureiro custom guitar(Tagima 27 fret) by placing your shred over a supplied backing track and then e-mailing it in so Kiko can choose a winner (entries by Jan 28th) Info here (in French) just follow the two links, one for the backing track and another to submit.

DCK, thanks. I feel a little better getting it off my chest. I cranked some Pantera and got busy cleaning around the house, so my head is a bit clearer now. The sun is out today too. Even though it's freezing outside, it's all good when the sun is shining :)

Civgeek, you're afraid of citrus soap and humidity. I'm starting to worry about you... lmao! As for Winnemucca, you can't get there from here. lol!

SupaaDave, it's cold here, but not engine block heater cold. lol! My condolences. lol! How can you stand to do anything outside, like even load the car with groceries! I guess if you cover everything but your eyeballs it's not to bad. lol!

Steven, thanks for the good wishes. Your positive vibes are a gift to us all :)

Slansh - noooo problemo..... I'll send a mixed version and the 'dry solo's isolated with a sync-up clip.....
you'll have the pleasure of hearing be dry and out in the open.... lol... all nude and exposed..... and not so impressive...
a little reverb and delay must be the guitarists equivalent to make-up..... cos I've woke up with some beasts that I'm sure were angels the night before...lol.... I'm sure it was the make-up..... or could it have been the bucket of cerveza as well??... lmao...

anyways... there is something I forgot to mention in may last post that I should have done... but I got distracted by my boss wanting me to do work and stuff....
anyways.. here goes......

you are a fucking beast of a player....

SteveeT - the DC stuff is tricky in many ways..... but not really tricky in a "zillion notes per second" sort of way....
the fingerings are sometimes quite tough.. the music is rarely in 4/4... some of the transitions between sections are awkward because you have to switch between riffing and fingerstyle, or moving from one area of the neck to the other whilst simultaneously changing from a riffing tone to a cleaner one.. which makes for a lot to do in a tiny space of time...... pain in the ass stuff more than anything..
the real tricky part is form... often in songs things are nice sizes... 4 bars of this, 8 bars of that, 16 of them followed by 2 things and back into the verse.... and things have a nice logical sequence of riff, verse, chorus, solo, bridge, middle 8 etc building blocks..
oh no.. not David... not at all... his song forms are pretty unusual... it's not always riff-verse-chorus-riff-verse-chorus-solo-riff-verse-chorus-end... he really mixes things up... and things can be odd sizes... 7 of these, 1 of these first time around but 2 the second time and not at all on the third... and verse 1 goes straight into verse 2 but verse 2 is only 1/2 size where the 2nd half is replaced by some screwy phrasing.... so once you're getting over the hurdles of playing reasonably tricky parts in 13/16 in the key of M which can trip you up with some awkward transitions... you also have to know the form of the song well and then count your ass off so that you arrive at the next block of the song at the same time as everyone else....
check out Larks Tongues and Aspic part 2 by Crimson....
I have to play that one live..
then... my lil' shredlet... you'll be like
"fuck.... rather you than me...".. lmao...
mikey - nice to see you back bro...
mikesb - chunks o lard??????????????????????/

fuck.... now I need councelling......

Stace - 1664... as in Kronenbourg 1664....
a particularly fine lager from Strassbourg...
light and crisp with a pleasant and refreshing taste..
also it has a remarkable quality for making even the ugliest of ladies look rather fair... even the ones that have antlers or tusks...
in fact, after enough Kronie, even a warthog level Doris is fair game....
another interesting side effect is enhanced debating skills..
this is where you develop an ability to enter into a mild and objective debate and rapidly degenerate it into an issue that needs solving in the car park with a big stick...

for all it's qualities...
Kronenbourg 1664 is a particular favourite of mine..

michelle - "Clarky, 1664 is a great number. 64 is probably my favorite number. I'm guessing that in 1664 you were throwing women over your shoulder and having your way with them as your mates pillaged their villages in a drunken rampage... oh wait... that was last weekend, wasn't it? lol! Nevermind :)"

well... hat's not really what I had in mind.... but... hey.... nice plan... lol...
I'll need to implement it..

MLK had a beautiful dream, which I hope all of us share here at T2J.

Thanks.

My son was hitting a beach-ball around the living room.... splash, soda all over my guitar and the organ.

wonder how it will affect my pickups? Strings will probably need replacing.

My Kramer is made in Korea. Gibson bought the Kramer name a few years ago. Now they have generic "Gibson" pickups, "Dual Rail" single and "Quad Rail" humbucker pickups with a dual-tap mode on the tone switch. It selects just 2 of 4 coils. I don't use it.

Hello my friend, yes all is well, thank you for inquiring. I traveled north to support my seven year old son in the age old tradition of the "Pinewood Derby". He came in 4th place just outside the spotlight of victory. I was proud and as usual he was a good boy with manners intact. Just arrived home last night about 9:30, hit the rack and slept until 8 am.

Unions, Unions, Unions..... Do you believe the state of Illinois just doubled the Toll for cash paying cars to drive on the interstate? Yep, from $.50 to $1.00. The absolutely absurd issue is that the department of transportation Unions is trying to negotiate a contract that insures the jobs of all toll booth workers. The system is halfway automated now with the "IPASS" electronic debit system. So I ask you, what do you do with a person that has spent the better part of their adult career life making change for a dollar? Why should the unions demand that Mr. and Mrs. John q Six-pack still flip the bill for them to have a guaranteed job? This is exactly the extortion that we have discussed in the past. It's not the Unions money, it’s really not the states, it's the dumb ass Illinois citizen’s money and the Unions want a promise that Toll Booth workers will not be laid off after we go to the expense of automating that very job.

And so I ask you, is it any wonder we are not leaders in forging raw materials like steel?

Employment is a privilege not a right. If it weren't for someone to have the courage and resources to start a business there wouldn't be any jobs. When those very people get tired of organized labor holding guns to their heads, they close the business and move on. So what’s better, fair labor wages or the soup kitchen?

All-Mom Bands Rock Housewife Stereotype

DALLAS - They're housewives, workaholics, PTA members and ... rock stars?

Women fighting to shatter the stay-at-home-mom stereotype and rediscover their youthful voice are forming bands, such as Housewives on Prozac in suburban New York, Frump in Dallas and Placenta in Oakland, Calif.

These moms are rocking the house and the cradle, singing about breast-feeding, exhaustion and making kids do their chores.

"I feel like what we do is remind people about their passion and that sense of importance and that sense of vitality," said Joy Rose, a 47-year-old mother of four who founded Housewives on Prozac in 1997. "Life is really short and it's important to live colorfully."

Mothers have struggled for identity and fulfillment for decades, growing more exasperated with their increasing career and child-rearing demands, said University of Michigan professor Susan Douglas, who co-authored the book "The Mommy Myth."

She said those feelings may explain the growing number of mom rock bands. (Rose estimated there are about 50 active mom bands across the country, with 20 of them having been formed in the last year.)

Suzie Riddle, who has three children aged 19, 12 and 6, started Frump in 2001 as a gag for her 40th birthday party. A punk rocker in her youth, then a librarian, Riddle hounded other mothers at her church and her daughters' school until she found three women willing to play along.

At first, they performed five songs, including "Suzie Is A Headbanger" by the Ramones and "We're Really Beat," a song Frump guitarist Frances Peterson wrote to the tune of "We've Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's.

"See the mothers driving down the street, see their makeup melting in the heat, straight from work, the pantyhose are tight, it's take-out tonight," the song begins.

Three years later, the band has grown to five, adding new members as others have moved away. Frump practices every Saturday night and performs about once a month at parties, churches and community events such as the Punky Mamas Christmas Bazaar in Dallas.

The band members even encouraged their daughters to get involved, and the girls formed their own band called Spawn and have played at two gigs with their moms.

Frump is still trying to forge an identity, teetering between being a novelty and a serious band, Riddle said. She'd like to add a second weekly practice and focus on cultivating a unique sound.

But any group that bills itself as an all-mom garage band is going to get a few chuckles, she conceded.

"I am really proud of this and I'm proud of the attention that it's gotten us," she said. "It's kind of a silly idea and a lot of people have taken notice."

At the Punky Mamas bazaar, an audience of mostly middle-aged women and their children clapped and tapped their feet to Frump's music, even getting up to dance to "Twist and Shout." A few young couples on a Saturday evening date watched from the back of a half-full dance hall.

Julie Hougland came with her 6-year-old daughter, her 55-year-old mother and her 35-year-old sister. She said she was surprised by how much fun they had.

"How many venues are there where I can take my daughter and dance?" Hougland said.

Rose hopes the movement soon will catch on commercially as more people see mom bands in concert. Housewives on Prozac has recorded two CDs and a holiday CD single, which is available on Amazon.com.

Several mom bands will converge on New York City throughout May for the fourth annual Mamapalooza festival. The festival, founded by Rose, will feature at least five days of events, including a free outdoor concert and a poetry and jazz night.

And for the first time, Mamapaloozas are planned for Dallas, Detroit, Nashville and San Francisco. The Nashville event will be held May 17-18, but the others haven't yet been scheduled.

Thankls for the birthday wishes everyone!!! I got hideously intoxicated, as is largely seen as proper for one's 21st here in the UK... lol. The bassist in my band is the general manager of a small nightclub in Hastings, and he put us all on the guest list and gave us a bottle of Champagne for free. Later I managed to blag a further two free bottles from him!!!

We Will Rock You was amazing. By some extraordinary fluke we had chosen to attend the 1,000th show. For the finale (Bohemian Rhapsody), Brian May came on stage to play the solo. And if that wasn't enough, during 'that riff' - think Wayne's World if you don't know what I'm talking about - A drum riser appeared on some kind of lift from under the stage with none other than Roger Taylor playing drums. Awesome. Afterwards, Brian May was like "I hope you don't mind, but we're just going to play a couple of songs now", so in essence we were treated to a kind of Queen gig at the end of the show. I couldn't believe it - it was one hell of a birthday present. My borthe bought me pet fish, so I named them Brian and Roger in memorandum. Obviously... lmao

Clarky - You don't drink anything Beligan? I thought you enjoyed a Stella every now and then... I bought a book of six Bach 'cello suites today. I'm going to try to play one for my one of my recitals this term. The thing is, I've made it stupidly difficult for myself in that I want to use my EBow and actually make it sound like a 'cello. No easy task I can assure you, but where there's a will there's a way!!!!

Suzie I completely forgot to get the old-ass keyboard out of the attic today...I'll do it tomorrow. I'm most likely going to be teaching myself, should be quite a challenge and be fun at the same time.

Actually no I won't get it out the attic tomorrow, if i do I know I wont get college work done...and at this point in time it is essential I knuckle down...I have a 75 page website to make by March 1st...and so far I'm ahead of most nearly everyone else with the planning documentation...but nothing has been actually made yet so I need to get my ass in gear.

I'm still hoping my last unit of work got improved enough to get me an 'A', I'll definitly need it after I failed the exam unit by loads lol. I'm confident with the current unit though, with websites I'm in my element and the subject is "Halo" and "Halo 2" on the xbox so I will hopefully breeze through it.

Thanks for takin interest, hope you are well :-)
