hi joe! hope 'ur recovery is as fast as u play 'ur guitar.well, i'm learning guitar for about 1&half years. i've a problem with my right hand. i can't play it very fast plus i can't change the strings very fast. i'm learning under a very good teacher('ur devoted fan). also, to become a good guitarist is it neccessary to be able to play the pieces of others or should we concentrate on creating some forms of music on our own? with best regards, andy(potash)

Help!!!

My english literature and language exam is tomorrow and I need some help on whether my explanations of some of the key terms are correct...

here goes

Figurative Language: similes, metaphors, onomatopoiea (sp?), imagery,

Rhetorical Devices: juxtaposition, paradox, repitition,

Discourse Features: adjacency pairs, turn-taking, backchanneling, self-correction, Grice's Maxims,

Interactional Features: phatic tokens, terms of address,

If anyone can add anything to that, or say whether they are correct to start with it would make me feel a little bit calmer about this 3 hour monster of an exam.

If I can get these little chunks of importance right then I know I have the rest of what it takes to get it all organised into a big-ass essay worth atleast a grade C or above.

Thanks guys,

Delfino

CLARKY- I am having second thought's about all this midi, and cubase stuff? I honestly think, I am to Dyslexic, and brain screwed to figure this stuff out. I am reading a lot on it, and the more i read, it's like math(I suck at that also) It just is to darn awkward! and i get more lost! But The idea of creating backing track's, without playing each, and evry insrtument, Oneself, seemed really nice! I Love playing the Drum's, bass, and key, all the guitars, But if there was an easier way to lay down "backing track's" Well, i would Like to explore this possiblites!? But if it just to darn difficult, i will have to learn to work with my limitation's. Sure appreicate all the advise though!, as i said, We'll see!........................ZENFISH- Hi, My Freind! How is your day Going? really well I hope! What have you been up to? writing a lot of new music! Probably huh! I am slowly feeling like My ole' self, Much of the pain in My bache are gone, although in the Morning, it hurt's so bad, i can't move! Just Ouch a lot. Hey, I had an idea, You may hate this idea, But I feel because You have been so cool, and kind to Me, i should at least offer! If you get some music recorded onto a CD, Mail it to wildestudio's, ME! And I will either Host those song's on My site's, And Tj2er's can hear you! Or I can sell them for You! Legally! They must be copyrighted, and Original material though, Or the artist's written permission! But I have several awesome Distributor's!! :-) the best. without being part of a "big time' rip-off label! and YOU WILL SELL! So it should work out well! and then once You are familiar with the way it work's, you will branch off into your own thing with the same co. If You choose. Anyway, I felt it only right to offer!...Have A Great Day! and Keep on with Lumberjacking! :-)

Delfino, they're all right, and if you can use them all then do so, but don't make it look like you're just trying to use the technical words! only use them for a reason, and make it clear that you understand how to use them properly.

The only wrong thing was the spelling of - Onomatopoeia!

good luck mate, I'm sure you'll do fine.....you remembered that lot, which is better than I did, so don't worry about it!

962: I think Ty Tabor is one of the most underrated players on the planet.

Alexandre: Thanks for the link to the Petrucci album cover. I saw DT last April from a distance of about 15 feet. That man is a *monster* player. I'm looking forward to that one myself.

Zenfish: I'm not sure about the quality of their acoustic guitars, but Gibson electrics can be some very fine things indeed. I'd recommend playing one if you can find one at a shop or have a friend that has one.

Steve: We got about 4 inches of snow here, with a possibility of more tonight. Isn't it funny how your opinion of snow changes from when you're a kid to when you're an adult and have to drive to work in it? ;-) Michelle, I hope you didn't get too much snow there in PA. Once Joe gets better, we can invite him over for some snowboarding!

Unfortunately, I had to cancel my guitar lesson for today due to the weather.....which gives me more time to practice for next week. Slowly but surely, the "suck" patina on playing is starting to wear away.

962 those are all the things we have to comment on in the exam tomorrow...along with a few more but I know them already.

I'm confident in all but "Discourse Features" now...and I can't seem to find anything that will tell me lol.

Johnny Carson, King of Late Night, Dies

By JEFF WILSON, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - Johnny Carson, the "Tonight Show" TV host who served America a smooth nightcap of celebrity banter, droll comedy and heartland charm for 30 years, has died. He was 79. "Mr. Carson passed away peacefully early Sunday morning," his nephew, Jeff Sotzing, told The Associated Press. "He was surrounded by his family, whose loss will be immeasurable. There will be no memorial service."

Sotzing would not give further details, including the time of death or the location.

The boyish-looking Nebraska native with the disarming grin, who survived every attempt to topple him from his late-night talk show throne, was a star who managed never to distance himself from his audience.

His wealth, the adoration of his guests _ particularly the many young comics whose careers he launched _ the wry tales of multiple divorces: Carson's air of modesty made it all serve to enhance his bedtime intimacy with viewers.

"Heeeeere's Johnny!" was the booming announcement from sidekick Ed McMahon that ushered Carson out to the stage. Then the formula: the topical monologue, the guests, the broadly played skits such as "Carnac the Magnificent."

But America never tired of him; Carson went out on top when he retired in May 1992. In his final show, he told his audience: "And so it has come to this. I am one of the lucky people in the world. I found something that I always wanted to do and I have enjoyed every single minute of it."

Nearly all of Carson's professional life was spent in television, from his postwar start at Nebraska stations in the late 1940s to his three decades with NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."

Carson choose to let "Tonight" stand as his career zenith and his finale, withdrawing into a quiet retirement that suited his private nature and refusing involvement in other show business projects.

In 1993, he explained his absence from the limelight.

"I have an ego like anybody else," Carson told The Washington Post, "but I don't need to be stoked by going before the public all the time."

He was open to finding the right follow-up to "Tonight," he told friends. But his longtime producer, Fred de Cordova, said Carson didn't feel pressured _ he could look back on his TV success and say "I did it."

"And that makes sense. He is one of a kind, was one of a kind," de Cordova said in 1995. "I don't think there's any reason for him to try something different."

Carson spent his retirement years sailing, traveling and socializing with a few close friends including media mogul Barry Diller and NBC executive Bob Wright. He simply refused to be wooed back on stage.

"The reason I really don't go back or do interviews is because I just let the work speak for itself," he told Esquire magazine in 2002 in a rare interview.

The former talk show host did find an outlet for his creativity: He wrote short humor pieces for The New Yorker magazine, including "Recently Discovered Childhood Letters to Santa," which purported to give the youthful wish lists of William Buckley, Don Rickles and others.

R.I.P. Johnny!!!!!!!

Joe, my friend and I went to see you play at the Greek Theater when you were on the bill with the Scorpians. Great show, but we were disapointed that you did not play Summer Song. Time constraint? We are planning to see your upcoming show here in April and hoping you will consider playing it. Thanks.
