YIPPPEEEE! My bass arrived this morning! I put photos up here (in the guitars and concerts album): http://community.webshots.com/user/962_lm
DCK, thanks again for your help! It seems to be in excellent condition....the surface scratches are good, considering it's age, and a good polish will make it look really tidy! I got seriously stung for import tax, but I didn't know that it was coming in a hardcase, so I guess what goes around comes around, right?!
ibanezmike, no problem amigo. I don't know if Joe still plays D'Addario's, but I know he definitely did for quite a while. he probably still does.....I dunno....but I've never had a problem with them. Actually I've had one pack with a faulty string, but god knows how many packs of those things I've been through.....anyway, I always find them tonally more consistent than anything else I've tried, and they seem to hold their tone for a while longer before they wear out, and when they do fade it's a smooth transition. I tried GHS Boomers once, which sounded excellent, for about 3 days and then they suddenly just dropped off and sounded horrible!
Sorry....I'm rambling again! hehe, I must sound so anal about tone! haha. I'm sure i'd get on with Eric Johnson very well!
tune, you're welcome! And hey, you didn't need to go telling me about the extra snow you've been getting! haha j/k. I'm so envious! Maybe I should save money through the year and come to Vienna next winter, go skiing or something! Hmmmm, there's an idea!
Stevee T, haha. Did you know she's from Georgia? (that's the east-european country of Georgia, rather than the state of Georgia!) I wonder if all women look that good in Georgia?
Delfino, I watched each one of those 4 anatomy shows. It was really interesting, you should have kept watching it! yeah it does make you squirm a bit, watching him fiddle around with a kife and some dude's nutsack, but it was kind of fascinating, and I'm sure it would make a valuable tool for A-level biology teachers!
I dunno if you saw, but they had one specimen where they had injected a corpse with a red polymer so that it filled the entire blood system. they then used a tank of enzymes to etch the actual body away so that all that was left afterwards was the (synthetic) contents of the vascular system. it was one of those jaw-dropping things that you see once every 10 years or so.....it makes it really clear why you bleed so much when you cut yourself!
silent_shady, i haven't listened to Strange Beautiful Music for ages, but I put it on yesterday and was stunned and amazed! I'd forgotten how great that album is! Oh, and you are going to love Is There Love In Space? when you get it!
estrela, yeah I love the vocals on Lifestyle! it's such a great song, and I think Joe's vocal style and sound is really unique....you can always tell it's him! Just Look Up is great, as is Searching.....what an immense tune! I love the delay and the reverb joe uses on Searching, it makes it sound so big, like it was recorded in the grand Canyon or something! haha
Ya To Gakk, that was pretty interesting, but yeah, a disappointment! Thanks for sharing though.
marimariSRV, thanks for the e-mail report on your trip, that's such a shame you had so little time, but well done for using it wisely and getting some contacts! I can't believe Nuno was there as well, and then you went to see EJ.....are you trying to make me jealous?! haha

Powerslave, yeah I feel inclined to agree with you. TAB for his parts in crossroads has been around for years, and there's now a fair few people who have spent a decade studying, alone, in their bedroom and can now play it up to speed. If these kind of people can play it at that tempo (as Yngwie could, no doubt, cause classical is his 'thing') then Vai can. However, I'm also not surprised to read what Ethn said about Vai sucking at playing it live. he sucked pretty bad on the intro sequence of "I Know You're Here" at one of the G3 shows I saw last summer, but 2 nights later in a different venue, he was much better at it, didn't make any noticeable mistakes.
I do feel that the guitar-playing world has a tendancy to grasp onto anything they can that might shed him in a bad light......a general rule seems to be that people love someone succesful, but they hate someone who continues to be successful, for year after year, without a rival.
OCPS470, haha, I don't have a traynor! I remember you mentioning that before, actually, you got me confused with someone else bro! no problem though, I can tell you for sure that the Legacy is fantastic, and an aboslute bargain, at about half the price of any of it's rivals!
haha, no Andy doesn't need to pay me, he's got another album out soon! that said, if it gets delayed, I might give him a prod and ask him for a lesson or something! hehe, seriously tho, yeah I know what you mean about the Jems. I was kinda lucky, cause I got mine from the last run of Jem's with the Lo-Pro Edge bridge, before they put that ultra-low-profile Edge Pro bridge in there. I don't like the new bridges at all, like you said, it feels like the scratch plate is a picking target rather than a protective device! hehe.
Yeah I really do want an AT300....I guess it might seem kind expensive, but it's not easy to make your own substitute. I'd put it in the same category as a JS10th or Frank Gambale model for special-ness!
edit:
alexandre, did I put 9000? I did mean to put 90,000.....anyway, 90,000 is the sort of number that you don't really want to be thinking about! hehe. Are your arms better now?!
Sorry for double. man, I talk to much.....this is "Talk To Joe" not "Talk To Simon".
Sorry guys :-D

Zen - lol... I was just moaning cos most really nice nylons don't come in left hand models....
I'm not actually looking for one... but one day I'd love to have one
SteeveT - I am playing in Japan on the 22 and 23 of April.. and there are a few dates in Europe... Athens, maybe Paris and some in Italy....
the European giigs will most likely be a long weekend...
so this is more like a collection of gigs in one's and two's around the place...
so Vai's next stop is becoming a spam head like the master... lmao...
big bad moon - "do you know if joe uses a noise compresser??? "
don't you mean "noise suppresor" or "noise gate"????
my best guess is that he does....
most players that use a lot of gain from stuff like overdrive, distortion and compression need gating down before getting to the digital effects...
962 - most likely very true.....
I was looking at the specs for the Breed pick-up....
it's really unusual....
I thought they were PAF-ish... I was wrong...
they are low and mid range heavy with masses and masses of gain..
this is a seriously 'hot' pickup even when compared to the Evo.....
I'd like to hear one...
powerslave - I sort of can't help myself... I just enjoy learning I guess...
right now I'm larning about SAQ training to find out ways of improving my training sessions [cos I'm a goal-keeper coach for a couple of youth soccer teams]...
also, I am studying SIP, SIP-T, Cisco IOS and VoIP technologies.... but that's a work thing... fun though..
Delfino - personally I think that the Hybrids have a more consistant feel to the tension across the neck than the regular guages.....

Clarky,
Sounds like a great Tour comin' up lotsa different people & places....Spam head? Oh, you mean for Vai to shave his head....hmmm...maybe some day, but I think Vai is more the hair implant kinda guy...getting old has it's draw backs...."Keep Playin' That Rockin Roll" Edgar Winter....
Say didn't EVH just turn 50? I remember learning "Jump" when it first came out, I was in some top forty band playin in Utah, or Idaho, or Rapid City, South Dakota...the song was a hit, but the solo was pretty cool....a big challenge....the Manic solo by Mike Sembello was pretty neet too....
Clarky....what was your first major guitar lead challange when you where a little tike?

Hey...
There's something I'd like you to know 'cause I think you could be a little bit concerne.
I live in Quebec city. I saw a show of you in september 2002 (the fabulous one with Dream Theater...) at "L'Agora du Vieux-Port". I have to say that it was one of the best evening I ever add in my life (the one I met my girlfriend is still in first place...!!). Well the stupid mayor of our beautiful city, Jean-Paul L'Allier, add the idea to remove this marvelous outdoor showplace to put a ridiculous park instead.
I wish that you can do something, (insulting this poor guy would be enough), but I'm afraid to loose "L'Agora". Poeple here don't want to loose it either, but it looks like a personnal revenge against a very good local radio (CHOI-FM) that Mayor L'Allier can't stand because they are saying the truth about his hypocrisy (let's say he just look like Quimby in The Simpson).
So please help us...in the neme of the best show I ever saw, in the name of all the good band that been there, in the name of all your fans in here...

Hi Joe, after 25 years spent in Africa and having been used to African rhytms I became a fan of your music (inc.G3) through my one and only love and all time Satriani Fan. Something like "back to the roots" because I am a Rock 'n Roll child from the Woodstock generation.
First I would like You to send her a postcard with your signature and some loevly words. Is this possible and how do I have to proceed?
Secondly I would like to attend with her one of your European concerts this year? Do you also come to Germany?
Thanks in advance for answering.

It's Friday joke time.....
A woman goes to England to attend a 2-week, company training session. Her husband drives her to the airport and wishes her to have a good trip.
The wife answers, "Thank you honey, what would you like me to bring back for you?" The husband laughs and says, "An English girl!" The woman kept quiet and left.
Two weeks later he picks her up in the airport and asks "So, honey, how was the trip?" "Very good, thank you"."And, what happened to my present?". "Which present?" "What I asked for -- the English girl."
"Oh, that? Well, I did what I could, now we have to wait 9 months to see if it's a girl."

hey red27,
no problems on the interviews :)
when i pick up my guitar i usually just play chords & sing Bealtes songs :) i had lessons in '97-'98 but i have a non-existent attention span - so i stopped, that & my teach kept putting the lessons up!
i have an Ibanez too - it's just a RG one, one of the low models that they make for left-handers
