XtrChessReal - I totally forgot to answer. The power of old age!! I did a search and saw that I never did give the final posting on the tuner. So here goes. I got an email to fill out a list of questions online. There were only about 10 of them. They asked how I ;liked the features would I reccommend the tuner etc. I wsn't as big of a fan of the tuner then but it has grown on me and I actually use it more than I thought. It has a needle gage instead of LEDs. So for tuning where you light to read it it is great I like the ability to see the how the string is reacting as opposed to the yes or no of a light. It has a built in hook for grabbing the sound hole of an acoustic, leaving your hand free. And in comparing it to the other tuners that I have it seems to be accurate. If there is anything else I can tell you just ask. No bother at all. All I do is sit on my rump all day anyway.

Zen, have you ever heard the album Halfbreed by Keef Hartley? If you have not you should try sometime, a classic "British" blues-rock.....

all y'all - I've been goofing around with CISCO VoIP and SIP and stuff...
it's been fun... no lie... lol

Nick - changing the way you write...... try approaching writing from different perspectives...

1 - try figuring out the melodic parts first and then developing the chord progressions... you'll find that there are lots of possiblities, some possiblities don't have to come from the same key... different progressions will give the same melody very different dynamic posibilities..

2 - try figuring out a nice progression and then build a melody inspired from there... don't only use the scales obvious to the given key... each chord came belong to a number of keys.. this will provide some unusual undiatonic options and twists to your melody.... so not only thinking within the box.. think outside too..

3 - try developing a setion of music based around a sound... like a guitar doing something unusual with a phaser or delay.. this can trigger lots of intreesting ideas...

4 - try coming up with a small motif and find out just how many different ways you can re-spin it... as a lick, a melody, a theme, a riff, the basis for a chord progression, a bass line, an inner voice within the chord progression, a counter - point etc...

what I'm trying to get at is.... there's mre than one way to skin a cat....
so skin it many ways...

slansh - Emily Remler... wow... I haven't heard her for a long time... and what an amazing player... increadible note selection....

I remember seeing a tuition vid of hers.... setting a metro and thinking of it ticking on 2 and 4 like a snare drum.. to make it 'swing'....

nice tits too..

so bro... what is your day job??

zen - "master piece"... yes from your point of view I'd agree... so far Shredz is my finest work....

personally... I hope that it is not my finest.. but that there is better to come..

Slansh - I had a copy of the Berlin version of the Cm prelude on cassette... which obviously died years ago....
do you know what Berlin album that track comes from.. I think it's about time that I got it on CD...

and more than anything... I really loved the keyboard solo...

somewhere, deep deep in my archives is a transcription I did of the whole thing... bass and keyboard parts including the solos....
I then programed it into Cubase on my Atari [including the bass and keys solos] 'cos the tape was dying and I somehow needed to keep a record of it..
I used to love playing along to it....
the sense of satisfaction making it to the end without goofing up was amazing
I used to play the keys part, then the bass solo, then the keys solo, then the rest of the keys parts.....

very very tough... but amazing..

vfr - I never did a full analysis of the Goldberg Vars, so in deep technical terms I'm not that familiar with them...

yes I've heard them and enjoyed them greatly...

so I can't really say if this was his compositional peak...
I mean fuck how would you determine that??

I think my favourite Bach works are:
the Harpsichord concerto's [all 6 of them.. and on harpsichord not piano - which is how you hear most recordings.. and piano is just not the same]
'm particularly fond of concerto's 1 and 6
Toccata und Fuga Dm BWV565 - simply awesome..
Toccata, Adagio nud Fuga in C BWV 566 [I think] - the Adagio sections is without doubt in my view one of the sadest pices of music writen ever but anyone... it makes my hair stand on end and my eyes water..
Cm Prelude from The Well Tmpered Clavier Book 1 [I think] which is the one me and Slansh have been talking about...
Toccata, Passacaglia und Fuga in Gm - again... unbelievably sad.... [brThe ]Lute suites - all of them... awesome...
oh yeah.. and the Itallian Concerto in F... [I think that's what it's called... my brain is a bit messed up right now...

Bach is da man.... the first jazzer... and one of the first shredders...

While I have nothing to hide from our federal government, and would "apply for that card", you bring up a interesting point here. Criminals will ignore it and the politicaly correct county judicial system will not be able to enforce compliance.

Joe, Do you ever select opening bands for your shows? Is it possible to audition for an opening act slot? Or is this something that your management company deals with? Give someone a chance? Of course, management companies do not accept unsolicited material, plus who has the money to record a decent demo?!!!!

Jazzy: I'm glad you liked it! Sometimes yousendit.com can be a little screwy. I had to use it to upload tracks I had recorded for a session and I had to try 3 times to get it to work. If you have any questions about any of the tones or the gear I used etc. I'd be happy to give you the tedious rundown haha! If you have any questions for Peter, just email them to me, because he'll be with out a computer (and thus also without email) for a few weeks).

civgeek (happy birthday), VFRrocker, Cuthbert1776, Jazzy...and anyone else I may have missed.....thanks for the lists. There were a few I'd never heard of but for the most part they were all good.

I'm seriously considering retiring from playing gigs....I can't seem to get into the right situation. The two guys (father & son) that I play with now are doing it solely for the $$$....which is great I'm not complaining, but I still play for the love of music. And on top of that we are expecting a baby within the next 3 weeks and these guys are booking solid without any consideration for the time I'm going to need bonding with my daughter. A week after she's due..they got us booked for a two-nighter...I'm pissed !

Anyhow, I'll quit ranting....take care y'all !

SupaaDave - I took 8 years off while the kids were little. I have since started playing out again (i.e. the setlist). We all got together through ads in the local papers and Craig's list. I guess the thing is to look for people that are in the same situation as you. The guys in my band are all fathers and husbands. We plan on playing out once or twice a month. That is plenty. I guess the long and short is put the current guys on notice and start looking for some like minds. Good luck!!

I ran into a very old friend yesterday from Newfoundland, Canada's most easterly maritime province. We "lovingly" refer to the inhabitants as Newfies, and they are the butt of many a Canadian joke. Anyway he sez "Mike, I am gonna teach you how to speak Newfie, there are ONLY four important words"

"The history of Newfoundland is closely tied to the sea and more importantly the fish and mammals found there. The WHALE for instance provided meat and many other by-products such as OIL. Newfies cannot live on seafood alone so dried salt BEEF was prepared and stored for the long winter months until such time as the halibut and cod could be HOOKED again." Therefore the four important words:

Whale----oil----beef----hooked

Say em in order together as fast as you can......"

LMAO
