Clarkey:

I worked in the New Technology Department for Time Warner Telecom for about three years before the GREAT Technology Repression of the late 90s hit. I lasted about four layoffs before I was tossed.

I was in charge of the Sonus VoIP project. It was a Class 5 gateway switch which passed normal Telephone calls to IP. Vapor Ware was a good nickname for it. Sonus promised alot of shit to TWTC that never came about. They were our Vendor you see but had no actual switch that worked, at least not when we recieved it in the Lab. The initial project was to roll out working switch to the field to replace and enhance AT&T class five switches in six months....what a joke that was. Two years into the six month project there was still a multitude of issues not allowing us to install the Sonus switch. The project nearly single handedly brought down the entire company.

From the very beginning I was telling them it was a mistake, too many uncertain issues. The project degraded to the point that I and some other engineers had to go to Sonus facility and basically redesign the switch for them so they could get some kind of usefulness out of the 400 Million already invested. Approximately 40 of these were purchased according to the six month schedule, many were powered but not connected to anything in the network. But, for investors sake we had to look like we knew what we were doing. That was just as the technology market fell apart, and everyone lost thier asses. Then Enron, MCI/Worldcom, Adelphia, and the rest..."Here on Gilligans Isle"

I ramble at this point.

So are you saying that there is some VoIP that is actually functioning somewhere. I was laid off in 2001 and have intentionally tried to forget that entire industry until I saw that word VoIP and SIP.

Sorry I guess I was venting emotions or something.

Jazzy - I'm not sure. I have The Ritual and The Legecy. Unfortunately I haven't listened for a long tme and don't remember too many of the songs. They were, as a group, never one of my favs. I did get to hear them a lot along with Exodus , DRI, and Fungo Mungo. We all rehearsed in the same building.

Don't forget KD6AAJ is my FCC amateur radio license. I also hold a General Operators license which entitles me to work on aviation, marine, and radar communications as well as other types of radio equipment.

But, you have to have an amateur license to work on amateur equipment! Isn't that funny?

About privacy and paranoia.

All a person has to do is visit your site, or use a data miner to get email addresses off of web pages, then they can use a program to spam those email addresses. Very annoying.

To avoid the programs picking your address from a page, just write something like "kd6aaj at yahoo dot com" or "kd6aajATyahooDOTcom"

No, i am not a criminal, but it is anoying when you shop somewhere and some company sends you unsolicited mail about products you just purchesed.

I used my VISA debit card for reseving a motel room at Holiday Inn (I paid in cash after arriving, but had to use the card to reserve the room before I arrived there. Now I keep getting mail for frequent guest discounts (like "stay here this many times, and earn rewards")

Or, one time, I get some notice from a credit company who mistook my name for someone elses, and the company has info like my social security number, address and phone number! My number is unlisted. It is scary that people can get info about you just by paying money to the right people.

I actually had a short law enforcement career, and hold a low level security clearance. A am a licensed Security Guard when I don't do electrical work. Security guards get to go to concerts and get paid for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of gems from my work friend, the first to contemplate, the second for chuckles!! #1:

1. Money isn't made out of paper, it's made out of cotton.

2. The Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper.

3. The dot over the letter i is called a "tittle".

4. A raisin dropped in a glass of fresh champagne will bounce up and down continuously from the bottom of the glass to the top.

5. Susan Lucci is the daughter of Phyllis Diller.

6. 40% of McDonald's profits come from the sales of Happy Meals.

7. 315 entries in Webster's 1996 Dictionary were misspelled.

8. The 'spot' on 7UP comes from its inventor, who had red eyes. He was albino.

9. On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents, daily.

10. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine are brother and sister.

11. Chocolate affects a dog's heart and nervous system; a few ounces will kill a small sized dog.

12. Orcas (killer whales) kill sharks by torpedoing up into the shark's stomach from underneath, causing the shark to explode.

13. Most lipstick contains fish scales (eeww).

14. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear pants.

15. Ketchup was sold in the 1830s as medicine.

16. Upper and lower case letters are named 'upper' and 'lower' because in the time when all original print had to be set in individual letters, the 'upper case' letters were stored in the case on top of the case that stored the smaller, 'lower case' letters.

17. Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time ... hence, multi-tasking was invented.)

18. Because metal was scarce, the Oscars given out during World War II were made of wood.

19. There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.

20. The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan; there was never a recorded Wendy before!

21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver!

22. Leonardo Da Vinci invented scissors. Also, it took him 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips.

23. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death.

24. The mask used by Michael Myers in the original "Halloween" was a Captain Kirk mask painted white.

25. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar (good to know.)

26. By raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand (and you thought this list was completely useless.)

27. The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law, which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb (sign of a true civilized society ... not.)

28. The first product Motorola started to develop was a record player for automobiles. At that time, the most known player on the market was the Victrola, so they called themselves Motorola.

29. Celery has negative calories! It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with. It's the same with apples! (Guess what I'm buying on my next trip to the grocery store?)

30. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying!

31. The glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher.

32. Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries.

33. Astronauts are not allowed to eat beans before they go into space because passing wind in a space suit damages it (families taking long car trips should adopt this same policy.)

Civgeek:

Well, in case you wonder I'm not a cop because I'm too nice. They also won't let you head-bang in uniform, hahahaha!!!

Lets just say, I don't fit the personality profile of the good ol boys. I have plenty of friends in law enforcement, but I am not a very aggressive person, I have more of a ministry type of attitude. I like to help people when I can, and I just wanted to make a difference in my community.

I also discovered that I am not much of a multitasker. I can play music for hours, or take a computer apart and put it back together. I can even program a VCR! I just can't do several tasks at the same time.

I definitly can't type and listen to my wife at the same time. She hates it when I am on the computer, because I miss half of what she says to me. :)

Steve Wild: I know that Keith Green song you mentioned, but now I forget the title. My short term memory is suffering from lack of sleep, with the excitement of a new baby niece, too much caffeine, and yada-yada-yada.

Well, I am rambling... Hi Joe, and welcome to the new members!!!

The reason that those words were deliberately misspelled in the dictionary was a form of copyright protection. If said words show up in other compay's dictionaries spelled in the same manner, you have a copyright suit on your hands. It's their way of enforcing their publishing rights.

"You've been pretty scarce here lately, pard'. I hope all is well."

I’ve been here just lurking. I have also been really busy with business. We have a new store under construction, and I just acquired a small real estate portfolio from an investor that is going bankrupt, which I didn't expect to fall in my lap. My hands are tired from signing so many contracts that I haven't had the desire to type or play the guitar. Thanks for the concern but all is well.

How’s the family?

Wow, If I deliberately did something like mispelling words, I'd probably get sued.

That would be like Microsoft actually marketing software with security holes, or processing flaws in their program code! They would never do something like that.

When I by something, I want it to be what it is advertised to be. No wonder so many kids are failing in school! They don't know how to spell!!! :)
