Hey everyone...hello Mr. Satriani...

I'm new to this site and just wanted to do a post. Most of all I wanted to say to Mr. Satirani that he is one of the major reasons why my guitar skills have improved. He inspired me to be me on the guitar and not to try to be like everyone else. The largest part of this influence was centered in the song Down, Down, Down (which I am in the process of tabbing out). Its jazzy vibes and rich sound proved to me that one can play the guitar with a cetrain amount of humility. The simple fact that this song is from the heart moved me to the core.

Thank you Mr. Satriani for your inspiration and keep making strange and beautiful music...

mikesb - I read your interview with Joe, especially this point was very interesting to read -

Describe how your current 'look' and stage persona evolved?

"Well its really quite simple. For as long as people have known about me I've been on a steady course of hair loss, and I got really tired of working around it. One day I was out jogging in San Francisco and my hair was quite long at the time (February 1996) and it was really bothering me and I jogged past a pharmacy store that had a hair clipper advertised in the window and I just went in and purchased it, ran back home and just shaved it all off. Then I went of course, oh my God I've just shaved my head. But I've had it for two years and I really enjoy it. It's more fun for me and I'm not a weave, fake hair kind of guy, so it's more honest and in line with my kind of music and my image of straight ahead."

Wow, that´s exactely what I thought of......because I have nearly the same problem with my hair since 1996, it´s called “Alopecia areata” and it looks terrible, so I also have to shave my hair from time to time since 1996, but everyone of my family and my friends tell me (and I also think) it looks very cool (I´m wearing Bandanas too). It gives you something like an “bad girl look”..... and you can save the money for the hairdresser *lol*.
You can do a quick jump to the site www.naaf.org to get more informations about it if you like....
The other thing is, that nearly everyone who talks to you, and people who don´t know you, will ask you sooner or later: “Do you have cancer?” And my reaction: “Oh my god - no!” I´m at full health and my blood is still ok.......
So far, I´ve always thought Joe shaved his hair because he only wanted to look cool .... but such things connect.....

death cube k - thanks for the info, but only 10 submissions? So I´ll try my best to send in my tune, but don´t be surprised, for me it has no “pro” quality, because I had no pro equipment to record it, for the next few month I have no money left to buy some pro music tools :-(
I just was experimenting around how to record things with my computer and the tune is what came out of it all, some kind of homerecording stuff, that I made in quiet a hurry, if you like to give it a name; only guitar, amp, a little drumming tool (for the drum parts), computer and an recording tool where I could add some effects to the recorded parts and to do the mastering for the whole thing ......
By the way: I would be very pleased if some friendly ones of you could help me and give me some infos what is good (and not too expensive) recording equipment ..... I´m not in a band yet, but I have the dream to form a band with other musicians the next 1 or 2 years, let´s see what comes out .....

Keep rockin´ guys ................. tune ;-)

VFR, no I didn't post it already - I f*ck*d my test! haha, I knew I would! oh well, got a retest on the 10th (next month).

marimariSRV, thanks. the recording has come to a complete stop while I have immensely persistent computer troubles. First my laptop died so I ordered a bunch of components so I could build a new system but it failed, i've returned things, swapped things for other things, it still didn't work, then last night, after assembly number 3 it's power supply exploded. I'm sending the whole lot back to the supplier today and they're gonna build it for me cause I've had enough! haha. when it comes back, I shall be recording again, and I'll have more power to play with, so hopefully I'll get some more recording done some time within the next month! hehe
estrela, the "Future Combat System" is quite interesting. "Future Warrior" uses a whole load of new technology for good purposes. They use things like intelligent body armor which is light and flexible, until it gets hit by a bullet, then it instantly tenses up, creating a solid barrier against the projectile. This saves the need for wearing constantly bulky armour, just-in-case you get shot.

There's also the use of gun-mounted cameras and laser designators. The gun-camera is linked to a little screen (a Heads Up Display) attached to the soldier's helmet. hanging in front of his eye is the little screen which shows him what the gun is seeing. This means a soldeir can crouch behind, say, a vehicle or brick wall and just lift the gun up and see exactly what it's aiming at, without exposing any more than just his hands. It's a very safe invention and is likely to reduce battlefield casualties (especially in urban warfare) to as-good-as-nothing. The gun camera's laser designator means a soldier can do a similar thing, only instead of shooting he's "painting" a target for laser-guided bombs.

It's all very promising. Unfortunately, it's expensive, not every soldier could use it as the training would take too long and would cost too much. Apart from anything else, I think it'd be more to the point if the US government were spending US$ 127.000.000,00 on stopping wars altogether, rather than just finding technologically more advanced ways of winning them. I think I'm both for and against it, for the reasons I set out above!

sweetpicking, no I don't think so - I think Morley's optical Bad Horsie has the fattest Wah scoop I've ever used. I find it much wider than the Crybaby, it's got the sort of mid-range that doesn't seem to exist in most other pedals.
PhryDom, yeah you ought to be able to find some pretty good bar gigs on! Also, you should take a pilgrimage to Texas and go to an Eric Johnson show! I would! I'd go see Andy Timmons too, and I should think Population 1 will be coming round your way at some point!
njbeast, re. Vai's new record.....I don't like it much. It's weird and crazy, as he knows everybody would expect, but unlike Passion And Warfare and Fire Garden (and AIAUW), it doesn't seem to have the raw soul and emotion that used to come straight from his heart. There's a couple of good tracks, but unfortunately Lotus Feet has lost all it's impact that it had actually at the show....I guess it's an atmosphere thing, as well as seeing his physical expression.

962 - Sorry to hear about your computer problem, let´s hope you get your computer back soon to finish what you have started.....
And your opinion about Vai: yes you are right, it is not the same like Fire garden and AIAUW (also my favorite ones), but the new record has also something "special", don´t you think? And yes, I think it has to do something with the live shows that some songs are better played on stage, Steve seems to be a very good performer... .there´s some "magic" in the air when he´s on stage..... ok, that was weird, sorry...

CivGeek Happy Birthday man :-) Stuff these old timers......... welcome to the .38 Special club...........Back On the Tracks.......... dude. Hope you have a good day.

962 Too bad about the test man, but hey you were ready for that, next time man. I like the Vai album, maybe it lacks a bit of consistency and like Cube said, there is some rehashed stuff on there but I think that he's got some cool licks and extended some of his ideas. It kept me interested, and I can't say that about some of his other stuff. As for Passion and Warfare, dude, that was a moment in time, in the same way that SWTA was. I don't think that those albums will ever be bettered for me, as much because of the memories, that I have of them....................... but also because I think that Steve and Joe were playing with pure emotion and motivation. I think that anyone with an eye on the future is going to put it all on the first album - lol Flexable and NOTE were both 'Dude, you gotta hear this guy' type albums but P&W and SWTA were the real showcases.................. I always think of them as 'a life's work' .................... although individual tracks have bettered some of the tracks from those albums, imho I don't think that any of the subsequent albums have been as strong.

The human spirit sure is complicated; that's why we should be tolerant and think at least twice before reacting.

I have wo little spots where no hair grows, I let my hair grow so it can't be seen. The doc said it was stress-related. They didn't grow toobig so kind of forgot aboud them :p There are way wors things in life...

Hey T2J,
it's been a while since I've posted. It's been a crazy couple of months for me, but in a good way. Biggest news is that I'd like to welcome my 3rd child into the world, Jason Kokol!!!! He came 5 weeks early but is doing great. Secondly Sherrie Lee's( singer I play for) sinlge has been picked up by CHUM FM in Toronto & put into rotation. I was told this is a good thing apparently CHUM is not easy to get on to. 3rd bit of news is that I'm 3 songs away from completing my cd!! I've put the first track Chasing a Dream on my soundclick page. So if any of you get a chance check it out & let me know what you think.

To OCP, DCK & Phrydom
I've read about the new T2J cd & was wondering if I am eligable to contribute a track?? Let me know.

Things I hate

1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the tv remote because they refuse to walk to the tv and change the channel manually.

3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!

5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.

8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

Pope Rushed to Hospital With Flu Relapse

VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance Thursday suffering from a relapse of the flu, a fever and congestion, the Vatican (news - web sites) said, a day after the pontiff made his longest public appearance since being discharged from the clinic two weeks ago.

The 84-year-old pontiff had the same symptoms of the breathing crisis that sent him to Gemelli Polyclinic on Feb. 1, a Vatican official said on condition of anonymity.

T. Rex 'Boogies' Again on DVD, CD

NEW YORK (Billboard) - It's been a long time coming for T. Rex fans, but the group's Ringo Starr (news)-directed 1972 film, 'Born To Boogie,' will make its DVD debut in May via Sanctuary.

Not only will it be issued as a double-disc set loaded with previously unseen extras, but a double CD will also be released, with audio recently remastered by T. Rex's longtime producer, Tony Visconti.

The entire project has been overseen by Rolan Bolan, the son of T. Rex's late leader Marc Bolan (news), who died in a 1977 car accident. "I always wanted to be involved in my dad's career," Bolan told Billboard.com. "And this reissue gave me that chance. The film is the same as it was in 1972. Everyone agreed to keep it the same, but the 16mm film has been converted and enhanced digitally."

While T. Rex built a cult following in the U.S. thanks to the hit single "Bang A Gong (Get It On)," as well as the classic full-lengths "Electric Warrior" and "The Slider," the group -- and Bolan in particular -- became a phenomenon back home in England. T. Rex mania was so intense in the territory that it warranted comparisons to when the Beatles first hit a decade earlier. Sensing this, Starr signed on to direct a film about the group.

"Born To Boogie" faithfully reflected Marc Bolan's vision at the time. While a few bits are quite indulgent (including a tea sipping scene shot in a garden), T. Rex was a mean live act, as evidenced by various clips from a sold-out performance at the cavernous Wembley Empire Pool. Also included is a jam session with one of Bolan's biggest supporters, Elton John (news), which sees the augmented T. Rex rock through "Tutti Frutti," as well as a version of its teen anthem, "Children of the Revolution."

The new DVD is bolstered with matinee and evening performances shot on March 18, 1972, as well as a pair of documentaries: "Cosmic Rock -- When T. Rex Ruled the World" and "Re-Born To Boogie -- Restoration Doco." Also included are commentaries and deleted scenes. Rolan says the latter "were all found in different locations. Like finding a treasure, it took time but once unearthed, things just kept on coming -- some of the jams and different angles of the two concerts. You can see how the band really starts to jam and hit their high."

Starr even offered some advice to Bolan during the restoration process: "He made sure to help keep it moving, but he really felt to keep the film in its original state."

Although Rolan was too young to have witnessed T. Rex firsthand, the film offered him some insight into his dad's world. "You really get to see how rock'n'roll was king," he says. "T. Rex might have been called glam, but the truth is they had a large sound that never let down."
