What up with BAHDUH

Steven Wilde

If you know can you explain or refer to a post that explains it already.

kd6aaj

After all the fixing I explained in my last post I still have a slight problem with RFI.

It seems that the current caused by the broadcast is slowly building up in power. You cannot hear any AM initially and then slowly after about ten minutes you can hear itfaintly but getting louder. As I play over a long time the RFI gets loud enuf to hear clearly but stil about 40db less than the initial state two weeks ago.

It is as though a capacitance is building charge and allowing a slight discharge to increase the current and the signal with it. I noticed that if I were to simply touch the chassis the RFI goes away again. It keeps coming back. What in the heck is this? perhaps another coil on the rack case going to earth ground.

Perhaps I should create another ground seperate from the power line by driving a good copper conductor into the ground deeper than the ground on the water inlet pipe fro the utility company.

Any further suggestions or other tactics I can try would be helpful.

Thanks for your help

Obviously, Joe is King in this realm but are there any Aerosmith fans in here? Post me back on this if you're out there, guys. Just trying to get a feel for the musical tastes in here. Good night to all!

xtrachessreal Try grounding that piece of metal directly to where you grounded the other ground wires in the amp.

That should kill it (hopefully). Yep, sounds like a cap gets all charged up or something. Actualy, if you have two pieces of metal separated by dialectric (insulator) like air, wood, plastic, glass etc, you can get a capacitor effect. Old caps used air or paper for a dialectric. Imagine that, you made a huge capacitor!

GROUND The Faceplate!

Steven Wilde Keep on keeping on! Get better. I did not tell you my best friend as had a couple of seizures for unknown reasons, at least 2 were while driving! He is 3 years older than me, I turned 37 today, he will be 40 on the 27th.

my uncle Danny had one in his sleep night before Thanksgiving one year, and fell out of bed. His daughter found him the next morning. Evidently he was head down in an awkward position, tangled in his blankets. He suffocated.

Get padded side rail for your bed!

civgeek, I think your doggie needs some bully management skills. lol! Since he doesn't have any teeth, maybe a black leather spiked collar will help his self-esteem. lmao!

BigBunny, power to the (Aussie) people!

tune, my pop is staying the same. He has a lot of pain in his left hand and ankle, and in the middle finger joints of his right hand yet. He's still all swelled up too. His kidney is much better and he's still on antibiotics. He's taking his diabetes meds, but I don't know how he's doing on his diet? He's dropped quite a few pounds in the month since he's been sick, but he was a big boy so he can spare it. Thanks for asking. " So I canīt get the T2J Flu....... :-) " Just make sure to wash your hands when you leave the site. lol!

jazzy, I don't get that whole frat thing. I don't like to take orders, so I'd never make it into a sorority, or the armed forces, or the corporate world, or... well, you get my drift. lol!

SupaaDave, that would have been a baaaad day if a car would have come by and splashed some slush up on ya as you layed there planning your lunch menu. lmao! Man, that must have sucked - even though it made me laugh like hell. I hope you weren't hurt.

Slan, never had black tequila. Don't think I've ever seen any for that matter. Are you sending me some? lol!

Listening to St. Anger makes me mad. lmao!! I'm not mad when the cd starts, but halfway through the first song I'm pretty pissed. lol!

Hi Suzie!

SupaaDave, just don't try to dip her in bronze! lol!

Mari, I'm not going to see Eric this JazzFest. I have no idea who he's opening for, so I opted to see Fourplay on the 20th. I also get to cash my tickets in and see CATS tomorrow. My husband gave me the tickets as a Christmas gift. Glad you're feeling better. Now make it stick! lol! Hope to catch your next call.

muzic4me5150, I give Hetfield all the credit in the world for going into rehab. It's been the hardest thing he's ever done. I get it, and I get the whole band therapy thing. Times change. People change. Lars felt like he needed to do something "different" in his drumming for S.A., and it seems that's the main part of the album that sucks. It sounds like a Sharpie marker on a metal chair. WTF was he thinking??

Greco, Portnoy edges out over Ulrich for his sheer technical brilliance! Love Aerosmith, but Austin is their biggest fan here.

OME, I'm so with you on being able to watch the St. Anger DVD, but not being able to listen to the cd. I did the same thing. lol!

Rock on Stevie C.!!

Hello all, i'm new to the community. I'm a keyboardist, have been playing for around 8 years, and I enjoy a broad range of music: as well as plenty of satch, mainly rock, metal, classical & jazz, although I try and mix it up as much as possible.

*Yay* Joe's coming to NZ! The gig's R18 though , so I cannot attend :(.. can a Kiwi fan please write a good review!

Does anyone know if any of the New Zealand media has booked interviews with Joe? It would be tragic if the media didn't cover the tour properly. I'm yet to contact Joe's tour promoter, but if you want an interview with my lowly school newspaper, Joe... lol ;)

What are people's verdict on Jordan Rudess' book, Total Keyboard Wizardry? It looks great but because virtually no music stores over here keep it in stock I'm yet to see more than just the cover and the promo blurb. Can anyone tell me their opinion?

You are quite correct, as per your suggestion, I grounded the rack case. The RFI immediately terminated. Then I floated the case again and the RFI slowly began to rise its ugly head.

I was just testing your idea with a set of auto jumper cables connected to the Earth ground for the house, I am right next to the water service inlet pipe and you can see the ground from the power box running down its side.

I decided to check that just now between paragraghs. I am aghast at my findings. The ground wire terminates inside the house on the water inlet pipe. It is not actually in the earth, that is not so bad at first thought since the pipe is in the earth. But you can see the house cement foundation is only three feet above the pipe at the point it goes into the wall, which means if you were looking from outside the house, my ground is only indirectly grounded to a pipe that is only two feet underground. I am sure the pipe terminatres to a much larger feeder for the community, but those are usually PVC. I know from working at a telecom that the lightening rods that are to protect the comm house is at least 6 to 8 feet into the ground. Sometimes even deeper due to insufficient water locations.

Well, Denver has been in a drought condition for about five or six years now. My house has a water well for sumping water out in the case of higher ground water levels, built by code due to bentinite expansion etc. Its is bone dry and has been since I got here about six years ago.

Thus, the potential for this water pipe to collect a charge is not that far out of possibility. In fact may be quite high in probaility.

When you consider my earlier issues with the audio and RFI and then consider strange events in my house since I have lived here - such as replacing 1200 hour 120 VAC light bulbs every month, light switches displaying faulty conditions, Television from Cable has many analog channels that do not come in well, wavey lines, diagonal lines, I relpaced phone service three years ago because the phone would zap my ear with discharge while talking, RFI, low dial-up speed. I cannot even begin to guess how many static discharges I receive everytime I touch a corner wall or a light switch.

I just assumed that the grounding and the Electrrical was to code, even to an ordinary inspector it would appear that way at first. I am now almost certain that these things are all due to this faulty ground condition. Edit here: I just remembered that I was reading a negative voltage in mid air that max. is -1.2 Volts. That has been eluding me until now, it is negative because my ground is higher than the air, basically floating with the RFI upon it

Thats it for now, I need to go to my doctors office to have these strange lumps on my skin removed,...ROLOL

I am going to do more research on this perhaps, I can claim some money back from the home builder if docs say not to code, or the AM Broadcaster - gnaaaah thats FCC, might as well be shooting myself in the head now.

X->out

xtrchessreal Cool! Glad you got it figured out. The house was probably wired to the existing code at the time. Any improvements, however, would probably be more stringent to existing code standards. The code is usually adapted by local juristictions, somtimes with more stringent requirments. One paragraph in the bginning of my 1999 code book (California is following the 1999, but has transitioned to the 2002 code I think. National Fire Protection Agency makes a new code book every 3 years, with the 2002 being a drastic change ( renumbered some sections and added new ones) from the more recent code books.

Yep, dry soil is bad and 8 feet is a good length, but sometime even a 12 or 15 footer is needed. You woluld have to ask around. You probably have dry air there, and maybe synthetic carpet? Here on the north coast of California the humidity is high. You usualy only get static on dry warm days (like in a clothes dryer). You can get static in a building using forced air heating or air conditioning too.

Later...

Man......you people are some prolific posting maternal fornicators tonight!

MariMari: I like photography, but I don't even own a camera......torn between getting a digital or analog when I finally do break down and buy one. You might like this site http://www.simonmarsden.co.uk . I love his monochromatic work...not sure what sorts of filters he uses, but his photos have a very etheral quality.

Electrical grounding: I do advanced technical support for satellite systems......a bad ground can cause all kinds of funkyness with a/v equipment. Everything from distorted video to some absolutely bizzare behaviors. I've always viewed electricity in the same vein as grizzly bears......interesting subject from a safe distance ;-)

Drummers.....Peart and Portnoy are Gods. Perhaps the most underrated drummer I've ever seen is Charlie Benante from Anthrax. Check out the track "Nobody Knows Anything" from their last studio album. He's kicking ass with giant shoes there.

I just wanted to thank Joe for the e-mail, thank you so much for the welcome to your site, and have a great time on the road. Also, thank you Nick for your kind e-mail & for caring, hope all is well with you. I am in bad shape after i broke a few ribs and a nasty head wound, but i guess it will only be a few more weeks to heal. I am trying to write as many tunes as i can, but being in a drug haze it is quite differcult. I know the T2JCD is final at the end of this month, who do i contact about this project? And, we will make a few people happy before the month is up, i think you know who you are? We are trying to get a new guitarist for the lead playing if Terry Balsamo leaves the band, and we have been going over so many talented people who are truly gifted players. I have been in a very bad automobile accident and i am sorry this put me out of touch with the people i wanted to send a letter to, but i cannot get in touch with all of you as of yet. If someone could tell me who do i contact about this CD with the most talented people i have heard of in awhile. Sorry for the mistakes but i can only type with one hand, and it hurts just to move, well off to sleep these drugs i am taking is knocking me out. Take care everyone i hope all good things are coming your way, once again thanks Joe for making me feel a little bit at ease with the site issue, and thank you Nick for the kind letter, you made me feel welcomed and to get my courage up________________________________________ "Hope all your dreams & wishes come true" ~Amy~ And hoping i can make it out to see you Joe, when you get back, i never thought in a million years that you would like our music and you were a fan, you are so kind & so gifted in all you do. ~ See You Soon~
