Oh, forgot to add this:

When I mentioned how cool "Searching" was and how we could see the fun they were having, Jeff said that the recording on the ITLIS cd is the first time they ever played it. In his words (roughly): "Joe played us the song and then said let's go try it for a warmup (or have a try at it, something like that) in the studio... And that's the version that got on the album.

Reel Satriani has another similar thing, but more about writing than playing, it shows someone walk up to Joe who has gone to a quite corner and just scribbled and worked out a song in a few minutes.

Unreal....

I liked at the concert how you could see them go from one rythme to another, sometimes just a completely unrelated (seemingly) progression over 4 bars with Joe leading. Matt, and Galen, that was some fast catchup you were playing. Well done. I used to wish I could be good enough to even play a backing on one song for Joe. Now I think I'll leave it to the professionals, rather than make a fool of myself trying to keep up... :)

mjs99 - If you were talking about Thursday night in Sydney, that was my Parramatta Eels cap! His tech or whoever that dude was placing picks on the tape and reeling his lead (Mike Manning?) saw the cap and flicked it away. He taped down set list 2. Flicked it again. Did something else. On the third flick it flipped over, thankfully, and he found my note! I hope he passed it onto Joe, that was my first time seeing him and I wanted to have something to give back.

I just took a disposable camera (purposely without flash) to the show. if there are any really really good ones I'll post them here. I was in the prime possie too: front row on the fence, dead centre - where he'd come and stand and shred if he didn't have to do any switching or expression pedal - I was like, maybe 8ft away!

Joe Satriani - last night was the best thing since the birth of my daughter. Did you get your cap from Thursday night (17/3) in Sydney? Don't let that other guy tell you any different, that cap is yours.

You tried to throw me a pick at the end of the show but some other guy knocked it between the stage and the crowd, and when I went to reach it this other huge guy - who never moved all night until then - was straight over and onto it.

Loved every minute of it, especially Hordes of Locusts, Starry Night, Morrocan Sunset, and the four new ones you did - Bamboo, ITLIS, Up In Flames and especially Searching! That was mega! Oh, and that "obscure" one, something about Aliens and Surfing? Trip!

You have this huge aura, like a magnet, I felt it and it was such an experience to see and hear you play and to be up front within your space - an absolute dream come true. I hope you return real soon - for a sweeping G3 tour, maybe? Though, I understand the economics of G3 and therefore won't hold my breath. Still, doesn't hurt to dream. Love ya man, your music has expanded my heart as well as my mind so more can fit in. Hope you like your cap!

Simon Smith

roo - just read your posts, and I'm glad to hear the lads are keen for a G3 Down Under. By the way you make me green with envy, sounds like you had a balltearer of a night!

Hi! Everyone, I am so excited Joe is coming to Vancouver, Canada on April 13, 2005. I am counting the days until I go see him. Last September I made a special trip to States to Auburn, WA to attend to one of his gigs with Deep Purple. It was awesome! He played my favorite pieces: Love Thing, Cool #9, I like the Rain, etc. Huge greeting to Joe's Webmaster which does a great job on updating his website.

Hasta la Vista from a truly Joe's Admirer.

From 1983 to 1990, the Porsche 962, a revision of the 956, dominated GT racing around the world. The LeMans 24hr endurance race was won by Porsche 956's and 962's in 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, and 87.

In the early 90's, German businessman Jochen Dauer bought some retired 962 race cars. He started a lengthy process of adaptation and redesign, stripping down the cars and changing everything about them to modernise them. In 1993 the Dauer 962LM was unveiled.

June 1994, and the yellow Dauer Racing 962LM road car prototype caused a stir as it cruised around the Sarthe to the delight of car enthusiasts from all over the world. The very next day, the race version of this car won the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans for Porsche. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since that first car was built, and the definitive version of this earth-bound guided missile is different and better in many ways. Attention to detail has turned it from a street-legal racer into a thoroughly developed and civilised road going supercar. A plethora of electro-hydraulic systems have been built into the car, so now pneumatic struts hold the doors open and opening and closing the huge engine compartment cover is now power-assisted and at the touch of a button. If you have a ramp on your driveway or need to negotiate a speed bump, pressing another button raises the suspension a couple of inches. The computer that looks after the hydraulic element of the suspension also automatically lowers the car from its raised height if you exceed 50mph (80km/h). It is also not much fun to have to change gears on a car like this in traffic. Dauer considered many options and in the end came up with a unique transmission that uses the normal 962 manual box and clutch. But instead of using a gear lever, you select ratios via the Tiptronic S style knobs on the steering wheel. More efficient air-cooling, full-leather trim, a detachable steering wheel for easy access and properly detailed luggage compartments in the sills. All these refinements plus better, more comfortable seats have transformed the latest model.

Climbing in means stepping on a seat because you don't want to damage the kevlar tops of the luggage bins in the deep sills. Once in, you sit snug and secure in the cockpit of the world's fastest road car. Press the starter and 730 race bred horses roar into life. The engine in the car is the famous 2994cc water-cooled, twin-cam-per-bank, four-valves-per-cylinder Porsche flat-six. A pair of intercooled KKK turbochargers are employed and the Le Mans spec engine has 'softer' cams and therefore more tractable driving characteristics.

This engine is fully European emissions legal thanks to racing catalytic convertors and Bosch Motronic 1.7 engine management. The latter allows a relatively high 9.0:1 compression ratio to be run without any problems. The 730bhp is delivered at 7,400rpm, you get a red warning light at 7,300rpm, the soft-cut rev limiter goes into action at 7,400rpm and there is a hard cut-out at 7,800rpm. At 1080kg, the 962LM may weigh around 180kg more than its competition brother, but its power-to weight ratio is still better than a McLaren F1s. In a drag start, 0-60mph takes just 2.6 sec in first gear! Five seconds later you have doubled your speed again. Ultimately a shade over 250mph is possible, about twice the take-off speed of a jumbo jet!

jazzzzy, I have emailed Trutina a few times - last time was about 3 months ago, and again about 3 months before that - and not heard anything :-( I know he used to use his neighbour's computer to use the net, and we were told that if he had surgery he might need 6 months to recover. It's still not cool though...
Cheese101, thanks loads for the funnies! The Neil Armstrong story is hilarious!
Guitararama, the JS2000 has a fixed bridge, the JS1000 has a trem. And they're a different colour. That's the main difference.
Dominic X, although a valid suggestion, your the most recent of hundreds of people to sugget it. This one-thread style of board is great, and it works. It's a lot more personal and welcoming that your standard php board, and if you're only looking for posts addressed to you, look for those with your name in. Big Bad Moon Tool have been working on their new album recently and is scheduled for release in the summer of 2005..or towards the end of 2005...its going to be great and I think it will be released around the same time as their live DVD from 2001 which was a show from the Lateralus Tour.

It should be excellent to the max and has been described by Danny Carey as a live show like no other..

962: I don't think I've met a more genuinely interested and fun guy to chat with in a long time. I mean these guys (not just Jeff) just finished playing a 3 hour gig beside Joe on stage, and they're bright and relaxed, happy to shoot the shit for a few minutes with a few nobody groupies wanting to say hello.

Too cool. Jeff definitely is a great guy though. Thanks again Jeff.

Also, another coupla things I forgot. How funny was it to see Joe stride up for the super-killa-fragalistic-expert-guitar-lick and instantly see 5 or 6 mobile phones get held up to record it! LOL! That would look so funny on time-lapse photography!

And another point in time, Joe is off to his side of the stage and I look around, the entire dancefloor is motionless in a trance staring at him. All the rest of the band could see was an ocean of motionless profiles (not a single person turning to see the bassist and rythm guitarist). I recon you'd sorta start to feel like you aren't really doin much. But they're just havin fun, "flickin the chickin" and jammin away.

So many great memories.

It was awesome when Joe launched into the set of staples, hordes/surfin/motorcycle rider/always... Brought back so many great memories of us trying to play those songs... Funny, don't remember them sounding that good! Must be the picks he uses, is that why people fight so hard to get them? LOL!

:)

I've been listening to the music of Joe Satriani for almost 10 years. Though I was born in one of the poorest county in the world, I've been in Australia for a while for the purpose of education. I managed to buy his records and introduce his music to my circle of friends, then and now. I dont play guitar but still I love guitar works and I'm his fan. I've always wanted to watch him play live and it all came true on the 16th of March 2005, here in Sydney. I was so excited...its was like a dream come true. Great show indeed !! The next day I called in sick at work just to attend the instore signing with my friends. I have stacks of his cd's and videos and dvd's that I've been collecting for last 10 years. I took'em all, waited two hours in the rain cold, hungry but hopeful that I'd get his autograph in my cd covers and stuffs....and to my surprise, Joe wouldn't wanna sign more than one item per person. But I could see other fans coming out with their guitars signed along with the cd's and vinyls and concert tickets and you name it....It was a bit relief for me and I didn't really bother to hide my stuffs. As soon I entered the store, the security guard wont let me step forward unless I hand him my stuffs...I thought he was kidding but he hold me up right where I was until he had all of my stuffs. Half a dozen of fans behing me went ahead and get theire sutffs signed, more than one item ofcourse..and this son of a bitch security motherfucking guard forced me to leave all my belongings with him and choose only one that I could take to be signed.....the funny thing is, all of this incident happend right infront of Joe....he heard and saw all the shits that fuck face security guy did to me, to his fan.....and not even a word he spoke to help me out. That is unfuckingbelieveable.......after being devoted to his music for a decade, I dont deserve to get his autograph in more than one item????? Who the fuck does he think he is without is fans??? He's a fucking nobody....I just can get over this shit at all....fucking shocking....oh well....while he's here in Australia....all I can say now is " Joe, I hope you'll fucked by a Kangaroo somewhere in the bush...and you're gonna have a memory to take home with ya.....fuck you Joe...you suck !

You my good sir are a self-centred dickhead...You say you've been collecting Joe's stuff for 10 years...then theres obviously going to be a shit load of it...the more he signs for you the less time he has to sign other peoples stuff...maybe other people got 3 things signed at the most but by implication you took a shit load of Joe stuff and got stopped...not Joe's fault, what can he do if he is busy signing stuff for other fans?

take your head out your ass and don't come on Joe's site to insult him you fuckin anus

aussieRGman that sux that they didn't let you give Joe your demo disc :( - i rang up the venue for the Perth M&G and told the guy on the phone, i have a painting for Joe can i give it to him. & he said 'yeah sure, and we've had no restrictions on cameras.....only that Joe signs one thing per person & if it's a guitar it has to be an Ibanez'

i think the guy was the manager & he was really nice......he's told me to bring my guitar as well as my camera but i'm wondering if there will be enough time for me to 1 give Joe the painting/show him the painting etc 2 get a photo of or with Joe 3 get my guitar signed.

i'm thinking i might not take my guitar because i want to take a bit of time showing him the painting & the people running the M&G will/might want me to move on.....do you know what i mean? :) anyone got any ideas?
