I have been listening Joe like 15 years...He is my inspiration for my life...I mean if l feel a little bored, " Ride" feels so good, and in times of wonder "I believe"...I am trying to say he has a tune, a sound for every kind of feeling, thinking, meaning...Thanks very much Joe Satriani...

Hi everyone...what's up? Sorry for being so quiet for the past week or so, but I've been trying to enjoy my spring break. ;-)

So...what have I been up to? I decided to hang around school for another semester. I was originally planning on graduating in December, but now I'll wait and graduate in May 2006.

Part of the reason I decided to stay was because I wanted to apply to be editor in chief of the newspaper next year. I had an interview for that on Friday, but I didn't get the job. Oh well...I can still apply for another position (one that would still be a promotion), and if I don't get that I can just stay where I am now.

Anyway, that's enough about me. I thought I'd take a moment to talk about a few CDs that I bought today:

Neal Schon: I On U - This album came out last month, but I didn't get around to buying it until today... Does anyone else here have it? If I had to describe it briefly, I would call it "EOC-lite"...it sounds very similar to EOC (as well as the softer parts of Stu Hamm's Outbound), but that's not a fair description because this album is so much more than that. It's very laid back and just cool all around. I love the strings (I guess they're synth strings, actually) on Taken There. It'd be cool to hear more of that type of music from Neal.

Dave Weiner: Shove The Sun Aside - Wow. Everyone needs to buy this album. I can hear Steve Vai's influence here, but Dave's own style is still there. My favorite track is Ghost Of Denmark Street. Also...Dave's Party Piece (from Steve's Live At The Astoria) is included on this album as a bonus track. If you're even just a casual fan of Dave's music (based on what you've heard from his work with Steve), you'll love this album.

Ozzy Osbourne: Prince Of Darkness - This is a great box set for both old and new fans. I consider myself a big Ozzy fan (I have all of his studio albums and some of the soundtracks that his music appears on, etc.), but 30 of the 52 songs on this set are new to me (they're either completely new songs, or live or demo versions of classic songs). I bought this set for $29.99 at Best Buy...it's a steal at that price, so go buy it before the end of the week (they'll raise the price on Tuesday when the next new releases come out) if you can. This set also includes the "new" versions of the songs from Ozzy's first two albums (when Ozzy remastered them a few years ago, he had new musicians rerecord the bass and drum tracks due to contract disputes with the original musicians). I'm having an extremely hard time listening to these songs because of this, but hey...I can just stick to the original albums. The rest of this box set (including crazy stuff like a cover of Born To Be Wild with Miss Piggy, and the song Stayin' Alive with solos by guitarists such as Dweezil Zappa, Zakk Wylde, and Nuno Bettencourt) is more than worth the price tag. Buy it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these albums?

...Austin...

962: Do you have your track for the album done? I hope you make it on, your stuff is really good man! Good luck! I just finished my tune...finally haha! After trying to cram more crap into the track, I realised that it really did not need a tremelo picking run and whammy bar screams that I was trying to force in like an ass hah!

Joe, You probably don't read these but here goes. You have over the years truly inspired me and motivated my guitar playing like no oter. I could probably sing your songs lik for lik on most all your albums. I have my own instrumental guitar album out "outer courts" and gig around with it. I hope to see you when you come to Spokane.

God Bless, and I'm always praying for you!!

OCPS470, thanks for bringing that up dude, I've been forgetting to ask - When do I have to send you the .wav file by? I'm guessing I've got a month or two since DCK said August is targeted for release?

Did you hear my MP3 submission? If not, DCK has got it kickin around somewhere! hehe. Hey thanks a lot for your kind remarks.....I probably should have called the track "underdog" or "beginners luck" for it to go on a disc next to all you guys!! haha.

I know exactly what you mean about forcing in a bit of this and a bit of that! hehe, I was really rinsing the proverbial bag-of-tricks, but had to draw a line! I really wanted some trem flicks and satch-squeels in there, but cause I was recording straight from my POD2, it just wasn't happening. I get very mixed results with the POD - it's tonally just about scraping par, but it's response to harmonics and all the ingredients required for good trem abuse is pitiful.

Also, (sorry, this is a lot of waffle for you to read through!) I have been asked by one of my students to record him and his band. I need to get a small mixer, some decent headphones, and probably another mic or two. When I've done that, I can try micing the Legacy! yay!
