stevee- lol...actually didnt have to hang out at dia... i live only about 25-30mins away from the airport, so i picked them up, took them back to my place for a bit and then brought them to the park with my dog so we could have a quick picnic and a walk before that had to go back on the plane... good day....... the comcast thing was kind of things that most fans already know about... joe not taking any credit for the guys he taught to play as they were the ones with the talent... story behind swta... mphgt was an idea he had while talking to his brother on the phone and then wrote later.... assuming he was asked what 'happiness' and 'sadness' sounded like as he messed around with those ideas a bit... talked about being on tour and exhausted and playing a couple of chords that sounded good to him and kept messing around with it and he liked it but was trying to figure out what feeling went with it, and decided that it was "if i could fly" so that he could fly above and find the strength to finish the tour... pretty cool... anyway, that was the jist of it... hope that helps... :)

Hi, this is my first post. Just had to share with you all my experience at the March 19th show at The Forum in Melbourne. The atmosphere and venue were great, the band sounded amazing and Joe was jaw-dropping as usual. Joe opened with Up in the Sky and those sweep-picked harmonics were such an energetic way to start the show.

Props to the guy who came in character as the Silver Surfer - nice suit!

Ok, here's the sickening part (for the jealous-types). I became a member of this site hurriedly on Wednesday the 16th so I could sign up for the aftershow pass draw and 10pm that night I got an email saying I had won it. I waited with maybe 22 other people after the show and Joe came out and met us all individually. I am still amazed at his generosity with his time. I know if I was that successful I wouldn't be bothered night after night of finishing a show and then talking to fawning fans - and I say this BEFORE I have the chance for it all to go to my head! Well, maybe I would now - Joe shows what being a "good winner" is all about.

As you can expect I babbled a little as I searched for relevant topics - I said I would love to talk music with him but I quickly assured him that I didn't expect to - I felt too humble to be taking his time anyway. But as soon as I mentioned talking music Joe's eyes lit up - I was expecting exasperation or at least tiredness - afterall he had just played almost non-stop for over 3 hours! That moment was priceless for me and showed that he is the "real deal" or as we say in Australia (only occassionally - and only ever to an international audience) "fair dinkum"!

I asked him about that kick-arse riff in Mystical Potatoe Head Groove Thing and whether he used downstrokes for a certain bit that I find hard using alternate-picking. Nope, he said if he had to play that bit in downstrokes his hand would fall off.

Thankyou for taking the time to meet your fans Joe - you are an equally inspirational guitar-player and human being.

Back to the performance though. I was relieved to notice that from what I could tell, Satch actually is a regular human being who does have to conform to the laws of physics like the rest of us. I say this because he only "just" managed to make it to that last tricky harmonic on the fifth fret (in the sweep-picked harmonics intro to "Up in the Sky"). Or maybe I imagined it. I only mention it because the standard of performance in general was other-worldly so that provided the only welcome contrast.

Jazzy, Fourplay was faaantastic! My cheeks hurt from smiling so much. Larry & Nathan were having such a great time, and they were smiling almost the entire time too. Even my husband had a smile on his face most times I looked over at him. lol! He loves Larry Carlton. The whole band was in constant eye contact with each other. The drummer had his kit on the right side of the stage, and it was turned so he was facing the guys. The piano was on the left, also facing the middle. That way even the drummer and the piano player could look across the stage at each other. They were so tight!! They only played for an hour and a half though. THE BEST PART ~ I got our tickets late, so we wound up with balcony seats. The woman on the phone said they were closer than the back rows on the floor. NOT! Not only were they not closer, but they were directly behind a huge organ that blocked the view of the stage!! When we got to our seats and realized we had practically no view, we weren't happy. The guy in the seat next to my husband had already called for the manager. When the woman showed up, she asked how many people it was. The man told her six, which included my husband and I. She said she had seats for us downstairs, and took us all down to the lower level. We all wound up in row E!!! From the balcony waaay in the back where we couldn't see anything, to the FIFTH row!!! Now that's and effin' upgrade!! lol! My husband and I took the seats on the right side, the side of Harvey (drums) and Larry, and the other four people got the left side with Bob at the piano, and Nathan. Larry had his guitar way up under his grill. lol! He plays the hell out of it that high too! Nathan was playing a white 6 string. My husband thought it might have been a Yamaha, but he couldn't tell. I was disappointed they didn't have a meet & greet. I was going to get my Crossroads DVD insert signed. Anyways, if you get to talk to him tomorrow night, tell him he put on a great show in Reading!

I'm 4 pages behind...

the voting thing is very time consuming. As someone mentioned, it keeps throwing back things that have already been voted. Is there an alternate one?

michelle: whoa, you guys got hooked up big time! Yes, your hubby is right, Nathan does play a Yamaha. Nathan East's teeth are so white that they match his bass. No wonder he keeps smiling all the time. He seems like a happy guy who loves what he does. Did you crowdsurf? Vai's atlanta show had some crowdsurfing! I will definitely ask Nathan how he liked playing in Reading. The event I am going to is a clinic and performance, so it should be interesting and fun. gnite and thanks for the info!
