Hey, this is Jimmy Crabtree from W.V. I've been a fan of your playing, writing, and "attitude" for several years now. Great work! I'm a guitarist playing the club scene, doing country, classic rock, and some originals. I've got a new web site about my playing history, experiences, and MP3's. If you have the time, please check it out. Thanks! http://jimmycrabtree.tripod.com

Velvet Revolver's Slash Named Best Guitarist By 'Esquire'
Velvet Revolver lead guitarist Slash has won Esquire magazine's 2005 Esky Music Award for Best Guitarist, according to Blabbermouth.net.
Slash accepted the award with a statement in which he said, "This is my first guitarist award ever. It's very humbling. I'd like to thank my parents, and I'd also like to thank everyone I've ever f--king worked with in the music business from the point I started at up until now -- the bands I've been in, the sessions I've done, and the artists I've worked with. My wife is at least half of the reason I'm still walking. I'd also like to thank Robert Wolin; he got me to switch from bass to guitar. Thank you."

Dream Theater Eyeing June for New Album
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Rock act Dream Theater will release its next album, "Octavarium," June 7 via Atlantic Records.
"We wrote it and recorded it at the Hit Factory, which is now closed -- we were the last session in that studio," guitarist John Petrucci tells Billboard.com.
Asked how "Octavarium" differs from its predecessor, "Train of Thought," Petrucci says, "The album before this we wrote in the rehearsal period, constructed all the songs and then went into the studio and recorded them.
"The style from song to song was pretty consistent; that album was pretty dark and heavy and very riffy, sort of metal progressive metal-sounding. This one we wrote in the studio, and I think that stylistically from song to song it's more diverse."
Dream Theater plans to resume touring in June by playing the summer metal festival circuit in Europe. However, Petrucci will be on the road prior to that, as he is returning to the G3 tour in May to play dates in Japan with guitarists Joe Satriani (news) and Steve Vai (news).
Petrucci's 2001 tenure with G3 helped generate material for his first solo album, "Suspended Animation," which he released March 1 via his own Sound Mind label.
"I wrote material to be able to do that tour, and then of course, people were asking, 'Where can I hear this stuff?' I didn't have it out, so, 'All right, I'll make a solo album,"' he recalls.
The instrumental, eight-song set features four tunes Petrucci wrote for G3: "Jaws of Life," "Glasgow Kiss," "Damage Control" and "Lost Without You."
Petrucci says he's very excited about the project, which he recorded in a trio setting. He thinks people will likely hear elements of Dream Theater, but "there are more styles on it -- blues, rock, progressive stuff -- and there's a lot more improvising and soloing."
Among other recent side projects from Dream Theater's members are vocalist James LaBrie's solo album, "Elements of Pursuasion," due April 5 on Inside Out Music America.
That label also released keyboardist Jordan Rudess' solo project "Rhythm of Time" and "Jelly Jam 2," the second album from bassist John Myung's side band Jelly Jam.

Cuth I read in my local paper about it and it mentioned about his grandfather being a cop, and also mentioned how the guard he shot in school who was 'manning' the metal detector for guns, knives etc...was killed as he wasn't armed.
The one thing that puzzles me is they always seem to mention (in every report I have read) that he always wore black...so? Loads of kids do, its nothing irregular. It seems like the mention of this is to try to tie it to other school shooting rumours such as the rumour that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were members of the trench coat mafia...when it later turned out they werent.
I hate it when this kind of stuff happens, and I hate it even more when a lot of information is either warped into fiction or not included in the first place.

on a teletext/ceefax page on the bbc here in the uk, people write in with views of music, most of it is rubbish about how rap music is great, or about how genius some of the chart stuff is. but there has been mentions of dt, rush, vai and stratovarius in the past on rare occasions.
but this following quote i had to post. the person who wrote it should either be shot or awarded the noble prize for comedy. although i'm no fan of bruce springsteen, some of his songs are catchy, but he does over act on stage from what i've seen.
Quote:
bruce springsteen is nothing but a has-been and should have been left in the 70s. try listening to busted for real music.

Hey Joe... Remember when you came out the stage door at the Forum in Melbourne? Both times there was a guy just standing there applauding you while everyone else just swooped in for an autograph. That was me.
Seeing you live (especially twice) was a dream come true. Your technique is impeccable, of course. But what really strikes me is what a generous entertainer you are - you just get up there and give and give and give, and do whatever it takes to please the fans.
I was so proud to be an aussie fan on the Friday 18th show, when we started up that deafening 'Joe! Joe! Joe!' chant just two songs in... But I cringed when that tool came up on stage at the end of the Saturday 19th show and wrecked your bow. Sorry about that.
Remember how I got you to sign that interview I did with you last year? Well, one thing I didn't mention is that it was the front page story in a national music magazine - a real boon for my fledgling music journalism career. And some of the thanks for that goes to you - Thanks Joe.
After that story was published, I got a call from Sony asking me if I wanted to interview you in person when you toured, and naturally I almost jumped down the phone with enthusiasm! But then they never called back... Man that sucked.
AussieDave and Roo - Actually I interviewed Tommy a few months ago and apparently he is pretty chummy with Joe and Steve. (being on Steve's label helps) If they had him as a guest on an Aussie G3 they would be right on the money... I don't know he's go with the jam session though, his specialty being acoustic and all.

Cuth - I like your point of view (from someone know to be religious) except one point. Marriage is not a religioused based act. It is a transfer of property act. That is why marriage is similar in differing cultures around the world. It was a way to keep track of lineage and to secure property rights etc. Most cultures have some form of pairing off ceremony. Where the Christian-Judeo ceremony comes in is that in order for the small Jewish tribe to survive there needed to be rules put in place. Marriage had to be sanctified by a Rabbi. This insured racial purity as well as bound the pair together to bear childeren (the main purpose). Now if the woman was unable to bear a child it was legal for the man to secure a sarrogate (sp?) to bear the children. Homosexuallity between men was wrong due to the fact that there is no way to procreate. This was contrary to the needs of the tribe and banned. There isn't ,however, any metion of lesbianism in the Bible. Marriage should remain a legal act that does not need a clergy and is open to all who share a love with another.
