Civgeek, congrats man well done I know it is tough!!! Did you forget to compensate for the curvature of the earth? Forget to superelevate your spiral curve??
I worked as a surveyor for two summers, great work in the summers but NOT winters in Canada and also in Oregon I am sure... Great memories. Surveyed inside a salt mine!!! All control points on the ceiling of the tunnel!! Laid out a spiral curve mark dig mark dig etc for most of a summer, tied in beautifully to the existing tunnel we were tapping into. When you leave a salt mine you must immediately down 2 litres of water. Must also change the theodolite every two weeks coz of salt air!!!

JS_JS: Joe gave lessons to Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, Charlie Hunter, and the guy from Counting Crows, but I've never heard anyone say he taught Petrucci. You must be mistaken.

Who here has seen Van Halen's "Live Without A Net"? Just bought it yesterday and haven't gotten to see much of it...Am I the only one who didn't care for the bass solo? I only watched the first two or three minutes of it. Does it get better??

THANKYOU JOE!
I took delvery of my Ibanez JS1200CA this month. Thankyou for working with Ibanez on this one! You've created what I believe to be the best guitar in production today. The shape, the tone - second to none. It's unleashed a new wave of enthusiasm and creativity on my playing. You're an inspiration and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Master Yoda, Clarky, 962, DCK, Stevee T, Al and other out-standing guitarists on this website...
I have been practicing my sweep picking for quite a while now, startin slow and gradually getting faster using a metronome but I don't feel it 'flows' if you know what I mean.
So I was wondering if there are any tips you could offer that could possibly help me out with this little problem.
If there's any ambiguity in what my problem is I could record something for ya' to show ya what I mean if needed.
Thanks guys.
Delfino

JS_JS/petrucci_js, no Joe didn't teach Petrucci! He taught Jeff/Geoff Tyson though, who is pretty awesome. I got a copy of "T-Ride" yesterday and have been listening to it, it's really unusual, but very good.
ka girl, good to hear your bro is okay...that accident could have been so much more messy! I hope he's being careful!
petrucci_js, I'm not sure I'd say Dream Theater are the "greatest progressive rock band on the planet".....they're more Prog Metal, and saying they're the greatest is a bit harsh on the pioneers, like King Crimson. Also, they made the mistake of releasing "Train Of Thought". hehe. Just my opinion though...sorry, I should keep quiet.
Delfino, thanks very much for the branding as one of the "oustanding" guitar players on this site! You're very generous! Dude, I wish I could help you with your sweeping but it's a technique which I'm still trying to learn myself. I find it really hard, so I'll be interested to see what other people suggest.
All I have really been able to figure out is that if you start off too slow you won't learn anything, and also that if you can play the arpeggio with just your left hand (no picking at all, and maybe cross your arms to mute with the right hand or something, but that may not help) you're pretty much set to go. The bit that seems to take time getting used to is being 100% accurate with the left hand.
But, like I said, I can't do it myself, which is why it never gets included in anything I record! haha

962: "To each his own," I guess. Maybe I should have said "My favorite" instead of "greatest on the planet!"

delfino - sweeping sounds most flowing on the neck pickup. Also, try loosening your wrist and grip on the pick a little so that it glances off the strings easier and just keep doing the same thing until it sounds good. hope that helps.
